Yeah I have that site bookmarked...especially interesting are the spaceship interior set shots from Escape and the damaged version of the Icarus in the Fox dumping grounds...

Whenever I see the photos of the spaceship interior from Escape I wish the Fox vaults would open and the beginning of this teriffic movie would finally be added to a DVD release so it could be seen by all. I know they (the Fox bigwigs) thought that eliminating these scenes was a good idea to move the story forward but I'd like to see it and make up my own mind. Ditto for the violent scenes in Conquest and the pregnant Nova scenes in the first film.

It is so common today for DVDs to include deleted scenes even if not
incorporated into the film but as a seperate special feature. Of
course FOX would most likely have to search it's salt mine to find
these scenes if they still exist. (FYI FOX's archive is a salt mine
located somewhere in the midwest. Those who have the FOX Movie
Channel have seen a short feature on this that pops up every now and
then.)

That's why I liked buying VHS copies from Japanese laser discs. They add the deleted scenes into the movie. Some examples are Terminator 2, Robocop, Alien and Aliens.

Subject: request for Karubi info?
.html
Hello

I'm a new member of this group, I have only recently seen Planet of
the Apes 2001 remake (because I found out that Kris Kristofferson
was in it :)

Imagine my disappointment when I watched the movie and discovered
how little there was of his character :(

So now I am looking for more information of any kind about Karubi
(who I believe could have been used a little more than he was :)

Was there more of Karubi in the movie novelisation? I can't get my
hands on a copy so if someone can at least let me know what I'm
missing that would be wonderful :)

And I notice in the character guide that Karubi was also in a book
called Planet of the Apes: Force?
From the information I've found on Amazon, this seems to be a
prequel?
Was there more of his character in this book?
Can someone tell me about it?

And was there any information about Karubi (costume, character,
anything) in the large Behind the Scenes book that was released? I
think it was called "Planet of the Apes Reimagined"?

Oh, and of course if anyone has any links to pictures of Karubi,
those would be gratefully appreciated also ;)

You can send them to my private email so that I don't clog up the
list if anyone is able to help me with my request :)

thanks muchly

Subject: POTA as Twilight Zone
.html
I am pleased to announce that in partnership with 'The Forbidden
Zone' website the group's Internal Website is offering the
infamous 'Twilight Zone: Planet of the Apes' Video. Planet of the
Apes "re-imagined" as an episode of The Twilight Zone. Why? Both
were written by Rod Serling!

"What great fun! Serling's voice and outlook come through splendidly
and the story genuinely plays like a TWILIGHT ZONE episode. The
style of acting, shot composition, music, everything fits the style
of the ZONE, and it's even got a timely message. There were always
only 156 episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE... now you can say there are
157."
-- Marc Scott Zicree, author of THE TWILIGHT ZONE COMPANION

The video can be downloaded from the Downloads page of the Art &
Info section of the Internal Site:
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/MainPage.htm

It's 62MB so it will take some time even for those with high speed
connections.

For newer members the Internal Website is a multi-media POTA archive
hosted on a seperate server that can only be accessed via the group.
Either from the link above or by clicking the link on the Yahoo Home
Page. The Site is divided into 3 main sections:

POTA One Sheets - Includes high quality scans of the all six films
One Sheet posters, lobby cards and more.

Videos - Including film trailers, Greatest Moments clips as well as
rare POTA videos such as the 'Alpha-Omega Bomb' scenes from the
extended version of Battle, the 'Rule the Planet Remix', the 'Ape
Movie Channel' promo, the Simpson's POTA spoof and Roddy in Ape Make-
up on the Carol Burnett Show.

Art & Info - Includes Film Credits, Character Database, Interactive
Timeline, Comic & Novel Cover Galleries, scans of both the 1968
Topps & 1998 Inkworks Trading Cards and the Downloads page where the
Twilight Zone video along with custom DVD covers, MP3s, etc. can be
downloaded.

Note: Due to the size of the Twilight Zone video, other files had to
be moved to the POTA Downloads group
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/POTADownloads/ those files can
be accessed directly from that group as well as via the Downloads
pages but you must also be member of the Downloads group.

The Internal Site is a great resource whether you are a fan of the
original films, the TV series or the 2001 remake. Here's a
challenge, today is the 30th Anniversary of an important POTA event
(not related to the TV series). The answer can be found on the
Internal Site. Can anyone figure it out?

Hi Terry,
The German text gives no information on what is contained in the
comic, so we only what's on the cover for clues. Not much to go on,
however, other than the title story for this comics magazine is
about POTA.

Ho, Dark Goddess!
Welcome to planet New Hope. The place to find the rest of Karubi's
story (or more, at least) in POTA: Force, the novella by John
Whitman. There we learn that Karubi of the Tek tribe is the spouse
of Sarai, and father of Daena. Karubi is the spouse of the
chieftain, but not a co-leader of the clan. As such, his role in the
story is much smaller than that of his wife, Sarai, who hopes to
unite both halves of humanity (the Teks and Wildings) with their ape
rulers in her ideal future. Force takes place in approximately 8000
A.D. (or 3000 A.C., "after crash" using William Quick's
terminology), and 12 years before Karubi was captured after a food
raid and killed when standing up to Attar in 8012 A.D (3012 A.C.).

There is also a blurb about Karubi in another PA01 book, "Leo's
Logbook" and in Salisbury's book on the making of PA01, "Planet of
the Apes Re-imagined".

Long live the Teks!

Menluth.

Ooooh :O
Luckily a nearby library has a copy of that book and since it was my
birthday today I guilted the family into driving me there *giggle*
gotta love birthday power :D
I'll also be getting my hands on the local library's copy of the
movie novelisation tomorrow which will be great :)

I've never even heard of that book :(
I don't suppose anyone could scan me a picture of it? *looks around
hopefully* ;)

Yes :D
I've heard of this one but I can't find it anywhere :(
And it's too expensive for me to order *sigh*
And none of the nearby libraries have it :(
Any chance of a scan of this one too? *looks around and sends puppy-
dog looks to people with scanners* :)

The Escape and Battle posters both use images borrowed from the covers of

Thanks Tim. We endeavor to be a resource to all POTA fans. The
Forbidden Zone site has had some problems with this file in the
past. We've offered to be a mirror site for them in return for
making it available here.

In Beneath, Cornelius says that Taylor's two friends wound up in the
great hall of the Zaius museum. So I guess that Landon either died
or was killed and then stuffed as a museum display like Dodge.

Serling really had a love of irony. Dodge who was the scientist
winds up as an exhibit in a museum. Taylor, the misanthrope, not
only becomes the defender of mankind but he laughs at the America
flag in the beginning and winds up breaking down before a fallen
symbol of America at the end.

I finally got my last birthday present yesterday *yay* the Special
Edition 2 disk set of the 2001 Planet of the Apes (Mark Wahlberg)
version :D

So of course I spent most of last night working my way through the
special features disk ;)

I have to say tho, *big ouch for Kris Kristofferson and Michael
Clarke Duncan* :{

I was watching the Multi-Angle Sequence for the "Escape from the Ape
City" (and I just really have to say, it's damn hard to find the
Angle button if you don't know what you're looking for, I spent ten
minutes poking and prodding my DVD remote til I found it in a sub-
menu *sigh*)
Anyway, there was a multi-angle view of Karubi charging Attar and in
one of the trial runs they missed where they were supposed to go and
crashed into each other at full speed and ended up in a very painful
looking pile on the floor *ouch again*
That looked like it really had to hurt :(

But it was really interesting to see the different angles they used
to film each different scene :)
That's why I love special features disks :D
Altho, I was kind of hoping for some outtakes ;)

I have read the movie novelisation (finally :)
And I enjoyed it a lot.
There was certainly more description of certain scenes, and I
thought that the way Karubi's death scene was written in the novel
was a lot more worthy of his character than the short sharp scene in
the movie :(
The novel showed a lot more depth to his character and gave him a
meaningful death because what he says to Attar makes Attar question
his faith and what he believe to be true of humans, and that is
something that was sorely lacking in the movie :(

It takes time to prduce something and to leave it all up to ONE --- or
a collection of minds--- to configure a plot for a screenplay can take a
story and completly destroy it!
Ten years went into POTA 2001. That was just for the atmosphere. And
that was awesome (for those of us who paid attention to detail). Chalk it up
to a hasty script, not to a hasty production.
Producers produce.
Let's do this again only with a bit more intake on the script.
Still...
It was an awesome flick and we can all thank Rick Baker for the
believable makeup which he poured himself into...

Fan Fiction most people would like to see. I've always wanted to see

face trying to build a peaceful community? What happened to the
Mutants that were captured? What did Caesar do with the gorillas who

I guess part of Battle itself IS post Battle - ie the prologue and
    the epilogue.

I can say for sure someone built a Lawgiver type statue of Caesar!

    Wow, what a pic!

You are righ, this is a very early costume-make up test. They hired
some oriental actors to be apes, and tried some asimetrical fashion
desings. I think, at this stage of the production they were doing
the Lawgiver statue at the same time. Ther are also some very cool
Zira, human without bikini top and gorilla photo from the same
    sesion.

I believe this would have to be a test from the clothes being worn.
I also think it looks like a photo from one of the Trading Card
series - can't remember which one (maybe the original movie cards)?

I think the person MOST likely to know would be Brian at Apemania.
    I'll ask him now.

Dave, there are people on the DG who did not see this picture.

Would you be a dear and upload it over there too while I ask Brian?

Apes test Orang make-up with Wardrobe fabric choices for color

Looks like they were testng the pumpkin. browns, and leather colors.

Ever wonder why the gorillas leathers are a gunmetal/purply color?
Camera tests proved that it was a better color than black.

.html.htmlYou guys have short memories.  I've brought this up before.  This is an early wardrobe and makeup test.  You can see the Asia actor as the orangutan in the POTA featurette during a similar session.  If you freeze-frame him in the featurette you'll see him as the orangutan, wearing glasses and the date as 4/12/67, and the actors name as Joe Wong.  Here's a link to info on him at the Internet Movie Database:  http://imdb.com/name/nm0939150/

Says he died in 1978 of a heart condition and was from the Philippines.

Anyway, I hope this solves the mystery for you all.

We can see some costume desing in the extras DVD, they are not as "reallistic" as Morton ones, more Burtonesque, looks like subrreal sketches.

Thanks. Your comments are very kind

Ive post some pics of the process to make a mask. Im not a professional, this is only a hobby to me, so I try mantain the cost low, but there is a lot of sewingmachine, fur , fake leather, cardboard and glued paper.

There is a little cinema museum in my home town, and I donated two apes, (the pic is from one of this).

There is no much ape fans in Spain, but a lot of appreciation ( back in the 70s all our teachers says POTA was a abomination, so the boys think just the opposite) so a lot of people look POTA with a smile in his face.

    Thanks.

I hate to argue over the answer key of the Week 10 "The
Interrogation" questions... BUT... the answer to question "What two
opinions does Ann have to say about Burke?" appears flawed. It is in
the way the question is worded. When Ann states that the human "must
be a very special human" to get treatment BEFORE an ape, she is
speaking rhetorically and NOT directly about Burke. Basically she's
saying what human ANY HUMAN could be so special? It is only when she
looks at him directly does she offer her opinion of what she sees in
Burke. Those two opinions how ever connected are the he "looks
ordinary to me" and that it seems as if "nothing were really wrong
with him." So her direct opinions of Burke is that he is an 1)
    ordinary and 2)well human.

I still maintain that the amount of tools on the tray (given the
angle of the shot) is not answerable.

Still I'm having a lot of fun watching these shows again... I bought
the DVDs awhile ago and never re-watched them all until now.

    Keep up the good work!
