distribution plan shortly. Anyone that has a DVD burner and is
willing to make copies will hopefully volunteer.

So far, that's only been four people. I'm sure there are more people
out there with DVD burners, so we'd love to hear from you.....

Hi Tim,

I pulled these images off of eBay. The pix are actually sold
seperately as, if memory serves, glossy 8X10's.

I've seen them go the rounds at least twice this past year, so
keep your eyes peeled, I'm sure they'll turn up again.

A straight copy is all that will be required. No ripping, no
compressing, just a copy.

There's an interesting article in today's London Free Press about shops in town that sell these "angry monkey" T-shirts, created by a Londoner.  Celebrities like Kim Cattrall wear them as do Woody Harrelson and Seth Green.  I phoned one of three shops that stock the T-shirts, Commander Salamander, and I inquired that people outside of London & area, particularly POTA fans might be interested and was directed to this website where you can browse and order if you like.

Check it out!

It's all being taken care of now, thanks. Look for a post from Terry
and/or Greg in the coming days. (I'm sending their copies out in the
mail tomorrow, so it'll be a few days still before they're ready to
start making copies.)

If you're curious, you can see screenshots from four of the six
"Return" sources I had to choose from via the URL below. One of the
others was even darker than the darkest here; the last one was
comparable to the "Greg #2" images.

http://www.goatley.com/pota/dvd/toons/

The ones labeled "Final" are taken from the final DVDs.

The menu and screen shots from the DVD are great!!! Really
impressive. I just wanted to thank Hunter and everyone else in
advance for all the work they must have put into this project. Thanks
to Hunter's site my son has his own Planet of the Apes coloring pages
to color and has stopped asking why he can't play with my classic
books, he also has his own CD's of the book and record sets. Its
really great to share my love of Planet of the Apes with him and
Hunter's site in paticular has really helped with that. Thanks again

In the meantime if you want to prepare for the arrival of the DVDs, there's a great cover available on the Downloads page of the group website:

RETURN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES available on DVD
2 DVD SET created by Hunter Goatley
http://www.goatley.com/pota/dvd/toons/

Mr. Goatley has gathered a large number of sources of copies of this
great cartoon series and has painstakingly taken the best sources
available and compiled and edited them to give us the best quality
version ever available of this 1975 cartoon series

Terry Hoknes (Ape Chronicles) is in charge of taking and filling
orders for the new DVD set. Email him directly to place your order at
terryhoknes@...

ORDERS FOR UNITED STATES / MEXICO / CANADA
2 DVD set (blank disc costs - generic $1.50 per DVD x 2 = $3.00 US
funds) plus $2.50 shipping in US funds
GRAND TOTAL COST = $5.50 US FUNDS

ORDERS FOR ALL COUNTRIES OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA
2 DVD set (blank disc costs - generic $1.50 per DVD x 2 = $3.00 US
funds) plus $4.99 shipping in US Funds
GRAND TOTAL COST = $7.99 US FUNDS

If you would like the DVD's on a higher quality brand name such as
TDK or SONY cost is $3.50 US per DVD x 2 = $7.00 - therefore if you
want better quality name brand DVD's the cost is $4.00 US funds
higher per order. Write me with questions on this

YOUR OWN DVDS !
Your other option if you want to save the DVD costs is to mail me
your own blank discs (any brand) and then you just pay for shipping

Also if you want to save on any shipping costs you can make your own
arrangements with other POTA fans/friends in your area/country and we
can arrange to ship a few sets of the DVDs in one package to a
particular person if you feel this will save you any shipping costs.

I expect to start making these DVDs available starting Dec 15th so
you can place your orders now or wait a few weeks.
The earliest orders "might" make it in time for Christmas

If orders get really high than there are other members such as Greg,
Mark, Dave etc who also volunteered to help out with copying discs
and mailing in foreign countries. I appreciate their help. However
at this point I can easily handle any expected orders in quantity.

I take/use paypal at HOKNES@...
if using paypal just log in to paypal.com
click on "send money" and then choose "goods"

I also accept international money orders, personal checks and cash
Prices in US funds

If you need your item shipped faster (more expensive speedy delivery)
please let me know to make special arrangements

Thanks again to Hunter Goatley for putting this DVD set together.
Once everyone has their new DVD sets in January than I recommend that
we get together to discuss this wonderful cartoon series on its 30th
anniversary. Michael Whitty has plans for a contest based on the
cartoons.

If you have questions about this please let me know

Good questions. I have a multi-format drive, so I can burn either DVD+Rs or DVD-Rs, and my max write speed is 8x, so that won't be a problem either.

Anyone who wants to supply their own disks should contact Terry and he'll put you in touch with the nearest person, geographically speaking. If that person has specific format and write speeds for their drive they will let you know.

its my understanding that 4x and 8x are the burning speeds, and do not affect playback.
however, in terms of compatibility, i think dvd-r does better than dvd+r

Funny thing with Beneath. Either you love it or you hate it. My
favorite as a kid was Conquest but I think that was mostly because I
was so young when Planet came out (6 years old vs. being 10 when
Conquest came out). Of course that is my favorite now. I still have
a special place in my heart for Beneath though because it was one of
the few movies I saw with my Dad as a child.

Well, I am 29 years old and I live in Virginia. I first discovered POTA when I was about
10. I remember watching Conquest on a Sunday afternoon when it was shown on a
loacl TV station around that time. I fell in love with the movies and have loved them
ever since. I would get really excited when that same staion would show all five films
in a week. A few years later I started collectiing POTA stuff as I could find it. I was
able to get a number of the Mego figures, the different model kits, and other odd
stuff like "Ape-o-Phones" and an Ape-o-Scope." LOL

The best experience I ever had as a POTA fan was meeting Roddy McDowall. He was
doing a stage production of "Dial M for Murder" in my area I guess 10 or 12 years
ago. I was actually able to meet him outside and talk to him. He signed my Conquest
Laserdisc. I told him how powerful I thought Ceaser's speech was and how he really
blew me away in that scene. He was very gracious and told me how wonderfully
written he thought the scene was. He actually asked me if I had anything else I
wanted to be signed. I have never met a more polite and kind celebrity in my life.
Roddy was a class act.

I'll share some more of my POTA memories soon. I have a great love for the movies
and enjoy talking about them.

OK I'm going to politely ask that this end now. If anyone wants to discuss the positives and negatives of the remake in a mature fashion, you are more then welcome. But let's stop this carping back and forth now. Everyone has the right to their own opinion even if you disagree with it. Let's just all remember to state it respectfully and intelligently. Thanks.

I suggest everyone read Eric Greene's review of POTA 2001, 'A Tale of Two Planets' in the
file section. It's an intelligent review of the remake in a mature fashion. It's a great piece
for whether you agree with him or want to debate it.

I think the reason I love Beneath is because of Brent. Taylor is a
character chiselled out of granite---he gets mad but he doesn't go
mad. Brent is fragile enough to be on the verge of a total breakdown
(something that really comes across in Avallone's novelisation) and
I've always been able to relate more to Brent---we all know guys like

You can through this website:
It's expensive but hey they throw in free shipping to the US and Canada. (For the price they're charging they should have Ron Harper deliver it to your door.)

Has anyone else received their first Sideshow figure
yet? The Exclusive Dr. Zaius (in the riding gear) was
waiting for me at my front door today. Nice
packaging...although, Rory, they do have an outline of
Liberty! (Although not the 30th anniversary
graphics....) All the pics on the box are from the
first movie and are all of Mr. Evans. They are in
window boxes much like the Bond figures....with a bit
of velcro keeping it closed. Inside......the figure is
very sharp and well done. He comes with a walking
stick , three scrolls and a scroll holder thingy. And
a stand to hold him up. I want to open it up so bad!
But it obviously just came off the production line and
straight into the packing box....I can almost still
smell the fresh ink! Hopefully these will be available
at stores eventually so I can get a set to open up. I
will try and take some pics and post them......
Can't wait for the rest!

.html.htmlWell, I've got my Dr. Zaius figure and I have to report that I'm very disappointed with it.  In fact, I think it sucks!

The sculpt for the Zaius head is bad.  They have these tuffs of hair on his checks that just shouldn't be there.  Also, on the one I've received the paint job on the head is bad, and in fact one eye is messed up and covered with paint for the flesh.

Also, his jacket is too larger and doesn't look right.  They got the glyph on the back of his gloves right, but they didn't put the glyph on his boots.

With shipping I paid $52.61 for this and I just don't think it's worth it.  I've already started the process of returning it to Sideshow for a refund.  The figure is made in China and they need to see what a bad job they're doing.

Now, I'm not really sure I want the other figures.  I might just cancel all my pre-orders and just go with the Lawgiver figure.

The later issues are much scarcer.
    I now have #1-12 / 15 / 17 / Special (no #)
    I still need #13 / 14 / 16 / #1 (1980 reprint)

For those also collecting I have for sale/trade:
    Issues # 2 3 4 5 6 8

Note that posters came bound in the center of most issues
I have verified that #1-12 and #17 have posters / its possible that 13/14/16 have posters also
#15 does not as Special no # also does not

Oh wow lets see. I have all of the movie tie in books.
The DVD's. About I want to say twenty five to thirty
comics. I love the comics I admit. There just really
intersting and kind of unique to read some times. I
all so of course have both sound tracks and one of the
Post cards I got from a toy show a couple of years
    ago.

Not a whole lot but I collect other things to and I
just got interstead in Ape stuff agan recentlly.

It was a random effort. I wanted to go by my pen name

real name. So I decided to go with something for one
of my favorite characters in the series. X_X

I would love to take pictures. However, I don't have a
scanner though darn it. I keep asking my dad if I can
get one but he claims that I don't have enough room
for one. I might try to use my Mom's one day though.
To scan off some Fan Art if I ever get the chance.
As for items I have. All of the DVDs, sound tracks,
about twenty-five to thirty comics, all of the movie
tie-in books. As well as a post card for I think the
third movie ( now that I think of it. ) Not that
impressing I'm sure but I still have fun with it
    though.

I'm just in receipt of Hunter's 2 disc 'Return to the POTA' DVD's -
(Which has to be some kind of Trans-Atlantic record!)

I'm blown away! The presentation is totally professional down to
the smallest detail. The picture quality is better than I ever
remember it being on TV. Colours are vivid and the definition is
deep and crisp and even (given the source material) The sound
too is a revelelation, if you have a surround sound system
prepare to have your ears assaulted.

Christmas just came early in my household. A complete and
utter triumph. A huge thank you to everyone who had a part in its
    making.

I got my copy yesterday too. I must say that Hunter did a fantastic
job as usual, even better than the extended copy of Battle. Both the
picture and sound quality are great. The menu art by Dave is
    wonderful too.

If anyone wants to print out a DVD cover that matchs the menu art

Haven't seen the film yet. However, it may possibly be a homage to
Whitmore. He played a lot of cops during his career.
