I don't remember anyone saying "oh wow" or being jealous, but I
thought it was cool. So I don't know how it compared to the other
play sets (I didn't have any others), like the fortress and the
village.

Maybe someone else has a better idea of their "ranking"?

three years prior to the network's launch. i am awaiting a reply.

I had the treehouse. I remember my brother peeing on it too. All I have today from the
70's are some Topps cards and a gorilla soldier still sealed and on the card. I will post a
pic of me holding it.

In the UK the TV cards appeared during the height of the Apemania that
gripped the nation. As soon as I heard my local store had them in stock I
broke open the piggy bank and bought 36 packs all in one go.

I think I was still about three short of a complete set but I had so many doubles
(swapsies) I remember trading 10-15 each for any ones I didn't have. I had a
complete set in just a couple of days.

Happy days!

Rob,

Ms. Harrison was appearing at a SciFi/Toy show in South Jersey near
Philadelphia a few years ago.
She was delightful. Very pleasant.
Not to make you jealous, but she did hug me. :)
She agreed to a picture with me and I thought I'd just stand next to
her. I didn't want to presume to put my arm around her, but when I
got next to her, she put her arm around me.
Since "Nova" was one of my earliest crushes, I was thrilled. She
still looks great.

"Where are they now" - regarding favorite POTA collectibles:
One of my Mego soldier apes is encased in the cement stoop of my
mother's house.
When I was a teenager, after I discovered girls and stopped playing
with toys, I had one beat up Soldier Ape left. The front stoop of my
house was being re-done. It's hollow inside. Before the workers
finished sealing it up, I chucked the Ape inside.
I thought that it would be cool thing for someone to find "in the
future". Too bad it didn't talk.

As far as I know, it's still in there.

I always wanted to do that, but never had the money. I had to settle
for buying a pack or two each week.

My Favorites include one with Roddy and Kim's autographs on an 8x10
of them holding baby Milo from Escape. James Gregory as Ursus. I have
one with Lou Wagner and Linda Harrison that's pretty cool. I have 5
different Charlton Heston's, my favorite is a recent head shot that a
friend got for me through his work with the NRA. I really want James
Naughton and Ricardo Montalban's!!!

Hi John,
I loved that POTA game. It's another one that got given away (that
time my sister's yard sale a few years ago!). I have since bought
that one back on eBay. I was very pleased to have got the bilingual
(French-English) Canadian version, which is the one I had
originally. Having the French on it makes me feel that much closer
to P. Boulle. Call me strange, but it does! My best friend and I
played the Milton Bradley POTA board game for hours on end when we
were kids. I have since played it with my nephew. He loved getting
the humans to fall into that trap! He was also convinced that the
human male in the game must surely be Brent, and not Taylor, which I
found interesting.

I have yet to get the new 12" Dr. Zaius from Sideshow (regular
version), but I've seen it in the box. A couple of quick impressions:
-Color of outfit looks off to me. Not orange enough. More like a
light coffee color instead.
-Jacket looks a little too long. I think it should be higher above
his knees. Nitpicky, I know, but hey, where else can you be nitpicky
about how accurate a POTA collectible is, except here?
-Glyphs on jacket are very lightly embossed in vinyl. Detail of the
headsculpt is "soft". The pictures of the prototype (at Sideshow's
website and on the box) look much better.

That being said, I think he still looks pretty cool!
I know I'm gettin him for Christmas and I can't wait. He's not
perfect, but he's pretty good.

Here's a link to a site with a more extensive review (with pictures):

It seems appropriate that with all this talk about favorite POTA
collectibles, that the Mego figures are featured in the latest issue
of Tomart's Action Figure Digest (#129, Jan.'05).
Five and a half pages, starting on page 25. It's part of their
ongoing "History of Mego" series.
There are some good pictures.
There is also a good picture of the upcoming Sideshow, 12", Gorilla

Thanks for posting that.  I pretty much agree with everything you write.  I was disappointed in the exclusive figure.  Maybe with your pictures here others can see why.  The regular version is on the way.  I do think I'll like the mini Lawgiver.

I've thought about this for awhile and as hard as it
is to pick one item from all that I have....I'd have
to pick out:

-Megos....Especially Zira Cornelius and Zaius...these
I had as a kid and were the closest likeness to
Apes....Had a lot of fun with them even tho I had
no playsets. Cornelius' elastic has disintegrated but
I have a couple others now and one on card.

-Don Post mask of Cornelius. Had a lot of fun with
that as well....wearing it to the mall and freaking
people out!

and my foreign poster collection......always enjoy
finding those!

Liv Tyler Names Son Milo

Lord Of The Rings beauty Liv Tyler has announced the name of her newborn baby boy - Milo William Langdon. Tyler and her husband, Royston Langdon, welcomed Milo in the early hours of Tuesday morning at a New York hospital. The baby weighed in at 8 pounds. Tyler said she'd loved the name ever since she saw the movie "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" when she was a child.  In the 1971 film, one of the sequels to the science fiction classic from 1968, a baby chimp is named Milo by his smart simian parents. This is the first child for Tyler, 27, and her English rocker husband, 32. Tyler and Langdon married on 25 March 2003, in Barbados after a two-year engagement.

It's all called set design... Creber liked the look of the carved in stone Troglodyte City, and imitated the weird angles/shapes it has (had)... I guess incorporating odd sized doors went hand in hand with the rest of the designs he came up with... The odd doors are just something that look cool... There's no hidden meaning to it... (Unless you're Eric Greene of course, who would read into it that the odd shaped doors are a metaphor... The lopsided doors represent Taylor's entrance into the "lopsided" world ruled by Apes...)

There are no stupid questions.

True most of the doors were weirdly shaped. They would all need to
be perfect rectangles if doors were mass produced. The apes didn't
seem to have that type of capability. Doors were probably made one
at a time by ape carpenters who must have gotten creative;-)

Subject: [Planet of the Apes] Re: favorite POTA collectible
.html
This is a very hard question for me because it is so hard to chose.
But I guess I'll always have a special place in my heart for stuff I
got when I was a kid.

The first POTA item I ever owned was the '68 trading cards. A
neighbor of ours worked as a secretary at FOX's office in New York
at the time. She brought us a full box of the cards. We were able to
make up 3 complete sets and sold off the rest. Unfortunately, due to
a flood in our basement all but a handful were ruined about a year
later. (I have since rebuilt an entire original set.) FYI scans of
these cards are available in the Group's Internal Website
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/MainPage.htm) in the Art &
Info section.

When Beneath came out, the same neighbor gave us the Pressbook for
Beneath. (I have since collected all the others.) Since there were
so few POTA collectibles available when the films were around, I
wound up cutting the ads out of local newspapers. These were my
POTA "toys" so to speak. I remember trying to learn to draw the
logos from the films from these ads. (And I think anyone viewing the
internal website can still see my obsession with the original ads &
logos continues to this day;-)

After Battle came out, a friend of my parents who managed a movie
theater got me the One Sheets & Lobby Cards for CONQUEST & BATTLE
(And again I have since collected all the others.) Scans of these
are also available in the internal website in the POTA One Sheets
section.

Finally, the summer of 1974 was really a summer of POTA with the GO
APE! festival and the new TV series on the way. What was really
great was discovering Marvel's POTA magazine. I still have a copy of
that first issue I brought over 30 years ago. I was lucky I didn't
see or buy the first issue until August (I think it came our in
June) so I didn't have to wait a full 2 months for issue #2, just a
few weeks. (Again FYI scans of the all the Marvel covers are
available on the website in the Art & Info section.)

Anyway it's hard for me to chose one favorite. But these I guess
would be my top picks.

That's not entirely true... I mean the Apes have the capability to mass produce weapons, so they do have knowledge of mass production...

picture in the members file Under DrZaiusDavis that my Mom put
together of me getting some of my favorite Apes toys when I was
little. It was so cool to see this stuff again. I have bought all the
Mego figures from ebay over the last couple of years but these were
special because even though most of the figures are incomplete I
remember how important these were to me as a kid. I remember my Dad
buying me a new Urko when one would get broken because he knew I

Do they? I could be wrong but, I don't think it was ever established
in the films that the Apes' guns were mass produced.

I think this mock-up looks great... I'll be looking forward to buying one when it's available... Out of curiousity, since it's being (partially) handled by the same people that put together Simian Scrolls, will this too be a charitable effort?

Thanks Cougar. That's not a mock-up but a scan of the front cover
reduced in size (which is why it's a bit blurry). The Herald will
not be for sale so to speak. There is a distribution plan in place,
the first phase of which will be annouced shortly.

I am honored to be among the first to see the new TV Herald. Cheers to Glen, Dave
Ballard, Mark
Rogers, Kassidy Rae and James for putting together such a well written journal of the faces
and places in and around Central City. The layout and format look very professional. The
location and character references are well executed into the articles and parodies. This is
the perfect direction for the series to take.
Talk about favorite collectibles, this is definitely one of mine. I look forward to another
issue and have many ideas to contribute (Kassidy Rae, email me, I need your input on a
couple of things).

Thanks,

Hi Cougar,
I'm glad you like the look of it. To answer your question, no, this isn't a charity
driven project. Simian Scrolls saw the fine work others were doing to help
celebrate the TV show anniversary and asked if the UK Apezine could
somehow be involved. The Herald is the result.

Subject: TV Contest - The Winners!!!
.html
The contest is now over. No more entries for week 14 will be
accepted. All that is left now is to announce the final week and
Grand Prize winners.

Well like Babe Ruth hitting a home run at his last at bat or Reggie
Jackson knocking 3 out of the park in the last game of the World
Series, Scott George is both the Weekly and Grand Prize winner.

Scott jumped out to an early lead in the contest and no one was ever
able to catch him. While he only won twice in the weekly rounds, he
built an impressive overall lead. His final score was 62 out of 70
total questions. Great job Scott!

For his efforts Scott has won the Archive trading card set & a copy
of Ape Chronicles (this week's prize) and the Grand Prize of a copy
of the Return DVDs and the 1974 Fall Preview TV Guide.

Special mention should also be made to Mark/rkid67@y... who racked
up an impressive 5 Weekly wins.

This contest has been a four month odyssey for some of us. Planning
started in August a few weeks prior to the start of the contest and
there are many people to thank for making it all possible.

First, I'd like to thank Terry Hoknes for providing the copies of
Ape Chronicles we've been giving out with the Weekly prizes as well
as promoting the contest on his site.

Thanks to Glen Sheetz for helping write the questions, pick the
clips and acting as a judge.

Special thanks to Kassidy Rae for hosting the contest on her site so
we could open it up to more than just POTA group members. Kassidy
also picked most of the clips as well as helping in writing the
questions and acting as a judge.

Finally, we'd like to thank all of you who entered and participated
in the contest. As a special thank you, and as a consolation prize,
everyone who entered will receive an advance copy of the TV Herald
we've been talking about. I'll be emailing everyone to get there
mailing addresses shortly. This is fitting since in many ways the TV
Herald was born out from the contest. (This is phase 1 of the
distribution schedule for the Herald. Phase 2 will be announced in
January.)

The final standings for the Grand Prize as well as the questions
and answers from all weeks are available in the Database
section.

Hey second is nothing to sneeze at.

Look at Buzz Aldrin, second man to walk on the moon. I think he's better known and recognized now than Neil Armstrong. And when they did 'Toy Story', they didn't name the character Neil Lightyear. :-)

Jose,

I saw a couple of your masks while browsing the apemania web site.
Those really look great! I like how you're able to make the mouth
move with just a mask. And the discolored gorilla mask - is there a
story behind that? Costumes look like they fit right in with pota.
Really great work! I'd like to see more.

I also noticed a huge model of Icarus (about Mego figure scale?).
Did you make that, too?

Hi JR,

With a lot of help and advice from Brian Penikas at
www.Apemania.com , our family, along with a group of local children
and some curious neighbors, put together a number of costumes and
masks for a local parade. I would love to share pictures of our
meager efforts. Is this what you are looking for? Contact me

Ok, so I'm not the grand winner, but I am very thankful for all the prizes I have won. I

And by the way, fragmentation cosmoline packs are not bombs. Cosmoline is the stuff

I had to look that up on the internet so that I would know if I
understood what they were saying or not. How in the world would I
know what cosmoline is? And cosmoline packed? I thought it had
something to do with pacts (agreements). Thanks for the insight. I
had no clue!! (Maybe if I had spelled it right "-ine".)

And dittos about the prizes! Thank you.

The contest was a lot of fun, too. A real treat.

This festive time of year makes me wonder what types of holidays or
festivities might the ape societies have marked? Anyone care to
speculate, either from the comics, series, or old and new movies?

One thing we see the apes celebrating are weddings. We know that
Cornelius and Zira got married, although we didn't see the nuptials.
The Adventure Comics series had an ape wedding it. Who was it that
    got married?

What other events did (or might) ape societies have marked?

I totally agree with you on this! It never made sense to me that the Apes were kept from knowing Humanity once ruled over them, and yet, they knew of the Ape that broke the silence and spoke in revolt... I know it (Aldo's speaking) really isn't a "holiday", but the Aldo thing was the first thing that popped into my head when I seen the question... I guess I'd rather have the Aldo theory going on, rather than having someone try to say they have Christmas on the Planet of the Apes...

The line of dialogue from the script goes as follows:

    CORNELIUS
At first they barked their refusal.
And then, on a historic day comemorated
by my species and fully documented in
the secret scrolls, there came an Ape
called Aldo, who didn't bark. He
articulated. He spoke a word which
had been spoken to him, time without
number, by Humans. He said 'No'.

The line itself has an inherent contradiction. How could the event
be fully commemorated by the Apes if it is documented in 'Secret
Scrolls'. If everyone knows about it then the scroll can't be a
secret. In the film the line is changed to the Sacred Scrolls. I
guess they noticed the contradiction too.

However, the whole thing can be resolved by looking at the facts
    presented and making some assumptions.

First, we know from the first film that the Ape populace knows
nothing about man once ruling over the earth. This is know only to
higher ups like Dr. Zaius who keep it a well guarded secret.

Second, There are history scrolls kept secret from the masses.
Cornelius states that in ESCAPE. (This is totally consistant with
the first point.) In these scrolls the knowledge of man's
civilization and the story of Aldo are documented.

Third, at some point between the end of PLANET and the beginning of
ESCAPE, Cornelius, and possibly Zira too, were given access to these
secret history scrolls. (This is not inconsistant with either of the
    first two points.)

Fourth, the Apes commemorated the date Aldo said no. Now this is
    inconsistant with the earlier points.

Now here's where you have to make an assumption. The Ape rulers
while wanting to keep the secret yet still commemorate the day built
a mythology around Aldo that was presented to the masses. Like an
Adam figure, he's the first ape to speak. What he said and whom he
said it to would be kept secret but he would still be seen
    historically as the first Ape.

Well that's my take on it. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. If
anyone else has another theory, please present it. I'd love to hear
    it.

It's probably a holiday for the SSA,
    *Seecret Society of Apes) meaning
a majority percentage of the council.
They'd need a majority for the votes.
That way they can ensure that the

Maybe it's like Christmas!  Jesus was really born
in mid September.  It's the pagan holiday the was
calibrated the end of December. They were merged
in order to make Christianity more acceptable and
convert more people.  Many of the traditions were
not originally Christian at all but were incorporated
into the holiday over time, their origins forgotten.

I know I don't believe it's a circle... There are/were two seperate timelines, as you seem to be in favor of as well...

    I would believe movies # 3,# 4 and # 5 are affected by the knowledge of # 1and # 2 but because of this a new timeline starts and therefore # 1 and # 2 will never
take place after # 5 the way we originally saw them.

PLANET and BENEATH are there own timeline, the "original timeline"... Whereas ESCAPE starts the new timeline, and the events of CONQUEST and BATTLE are a part of the second timeline... There may be some similarities between the two timelines (such as Apes having been slaves of Man, and their winning freedom thru revolution), but no, they will not play out the same way twice...
