Yeah, it would take a nuclear holocaust and a polar shift

I am from Plymouth in Devon, well that's where I have lived for nearly 14
years, but I was born in Exeter in Devon and when I saw "Conquest" I was at
Boarding School in a little village called Atherington, which is near Umberleigh
in North Devon, the Cinema was in Barnstaple.

.html
.html.html Who else here has got their Sideshow Zira and Cornelius?  I've opened mine.  I have to say that I continue to be disappointed with the clothes.  I don't understand why they're not more accurate.  The glyphs are very badly done and the one on my Zira figure is upside-down! The Hasbro Zira had the same problem!  What's up with that?  Luckily I can cut it off and then sew it back on the right way, but jeez!  Also, I've cut a quarter of an inch of Cornelius' inner sleeves.  They're just too long, plus I've frayed the cuffs of both figures as they should be, but again something's wrong and that's the color.  Both cuffs should be darker.  It says on the box that these figures are made in China.  Well, someone from Sideshow should go visit China and kick some Asian butt!  Do they hate Apes or something?

I received my fan based news papaer , "The Ape" and it is awesome. A
excellent job by all who made it.
I do have one issue though, The advertisement for "The Passion of
the Law Giver". Come on guys, that was a bit much wasn't it??
Comparing The Law Giver to Jesus Christ is realy border line. As a
christain and followere of Jesus myself, I found it distatefull.
Other than that, it is a good paper

What?!!!!  Now I have to get one of these!  How do I get one?

I think it's completely APEpropriate to use the Ape's religion as an analogy to human religious belief, even if it is directed at Christianity, which I'm sure you think is the only one "true" religion on God's earth, but is it?  POTA is all about sticking a pin in such assumptions of one religions superiority to all others and Man's place in the universe.

BENEATH must have driven you ape then, I guess.

While I have no "real problems" with it, if I had something to critique, it would be the parts in the articles that refer to Yalu as a Councilor... While he did become a Councilor, at the time of Galen's getting involved with the astronauts, etc. he was not elected yet... Since you can assume that "The Interrogation" takes place some time after the astronauts arrival, then Yalu's election would be that much later too... After all, Anne tells Galen that his father has just been elected to the Council...

That's a good catch and speaks to our overall approach in putting
the Herald together.

We looked at the five film Heralds and noted that some the plot
details were either vague or incorrect. We realized that those
Heralds were most likely put together by people in FOX's promotion
department who had not seen the final films and may have only read
the script or a synopsis.

Since the goal was to produce something that would have been
produced in the summer of 1974, we took the same tack. We assumed
FOX's promotion department would only have the first completed
episode to base it on as well as only a brief synopsis of future or
still in production episodes.

Glad you liked it. Regarding "The Passion of the Lawgiver: A Film by
Mel Gibbon" ad. It wasn't meant to compare the Lawgiver with Jesus
Christ or even be a commentary on any religion. It was meant only as
a spoof of a movie.

Oh for the record Roy, I had no problem with Beneath either. They
didn't compare the bomb to Jesus; just their god. And when Brent and
is telling Taylor that they worship the bomb, even he knows that it
is a bomb and a false god.

I am not starting a flame war, but yes, I do believe that
Christianity is the only "true religion" if that is what you wish
top call it.
And as far as using Ape religion as an analogy, I could care less.
But I will not allow any one to use Jesus and His passion and
sufffering for me as one with out word on it. Besides, if you want
to be precise, since the Law Giver is just that, the Law Giver and
was never used in the films to represent a god, in my opinion he
would be a type of Moses. To be a "true analogy" would have been a
spoof on the 10 Commandments. It would have been better since Heston
also played Moses

You're right "The Ten Commandments" would have been a better
analogy. But "The Passion" was a more current reference.
As I stated earlier, it was not meant to be a religious statement
but a spoof of a movie.

Again I'll say that there was no intention to make any religious

I like the novelty of it feeling like it's a paper from an ape world.
Which is the point of it, I know, but all the details and the style
of the articles just adds to that idea. The article about Galen, I can
picture seeing something like this in a real human-world paper about
some criminal on the run ("He was such a quiet fella", neighbors say).
I also dug the other details and humorous bits like the weather
report and the ads.

Maybe when another issue comes along you guys can add some other wacky
things like ape letters to the editor, a politcal comic, etc.

Thanks Mike. Glad you liked it. We definitely took our cues from the original Heralds done for the films back in the late '60s and early '70s.

They took a bit of a tongue-in-cheek approach which we tried to recreate.

I would like to ask again if we can get back to discussing POTA. The
ad in the Herald was meant to merely be a spoof of a popular film
and not a commentary on anyone's religious or political beliefs. The
ad could have just as easily been a spoof of any another popular
film such as 'Fahrenheit 3955' or 'Meet the Urkos' or 'Spider-Ape 2'
or 'Galen's Eleven', etc., etc., etc.

Well, that's my theory. What does everyone think?

I think that bag of her's is as big as a timecapsule... It couldn't be held in one!!!

Anyway, I don't believe in the sealed vault theory... Who in their right mind would preserve something like that, rather than using the "sealed vaults" to contain something valuable or scientific... And if the bag was hypothetically sealed in an airtight/vacuum sealed vault (like the projector in "The Legacy") it wouldn't need to be restored, it would be in the condition it was in when placed into it...

I just don't buy it... I mean Cornelius was lucky to have found what he did in the cave they were in in PLANET... He probably never made it far enough to have reached any ruins of Man... (By that I mean he never was able to explore the ruined cities, because if he did, he would have found a treasure trove of goods... Things which would have made the things found in the cave pale by comparison... And what he would have found would not have included badly chosen bags from the props department...)

Over at the POTADG we have been reading it chapter by chapter, and
each of these has accompanied art by Neil Foster (and there is a
cool "solar sail" picture by Glen too).

If anyone is interested, just vist the DG and check out the files.

James, you might want to ask Neil if he would like to give you
permission to place these files on this group too - I'm sure you can
assume Glen would be OK with it!

I'd love to see as many different illustrations of Monkey Planet as
possible and discuss with people why they chose to draw the
characters the way they did (there is very little informaion in the
novel to go on!).

OK - so you were trying to "produce something that would have been

It's a shame that after so much obvious effort went into creating The
Ape, the only thing some people are focusing on is a spoof of a Mel
Gibson film on the grounds that it's religiously offensive. Come on,
folks... your religious beliefs are not being attacked, and a sense of
humor is just as important as religious tolerance. Like it or not, the
Lawgiver IS at the center of ape religion -- that much is clear in the
first
film when his statue is seen in the church during the funeral, and when
it bleeds in Beneath. Just as the Holy Bomb has supplanted God in
the mutants' religion, the Lawgiver has supplanted Christ in ape
religion, so the use of the Passion ad was entirely ape-propriate (and
darn funny, I might add.... Mel Gibbon... LOL).

Just think, if they did do one for RETURN, it'd be the only "accurate" APES setting to have a newspaper like that... RETURN would be the right place to do one...

That's exactly right Cougar. As far as the more humous stuff, like
the 'Dumb Humans' article or the 'MasterCard' spoof on the back
page, we kept the references more contemporary. I mean who would
know what a MasterCard ad from 1974 looked like anyway. And even if
they did would anyone else get the joke?

It's that time of year when I clean up my hard drive and I'm coming across all
sorts of partially complete and abandoned ideas.

In the files section, in a folder named 'Fanfic' you will find a pitch for a comic
that was intended to fuse the ideas of POTA with those of the Italian Western.
It's essentailly a cross -over which is why it isn't too successful and why I was
never really happy with it.

It is what it is - 'nuff said!

More to follow over the next few days.

I knew that they had filmed a deleted scene of the Ape-o-nauts inside

That picture is just a snap of the 3 Apes inside of the ship and the
other pic is from the film when they are bringing ths ship ashore at
the start of the movie.
To my knowledge, no footage was ever shot of Milo finding the ship.
The comic I added of Milo finding the ship was a pic I found on the

I found the pictures just messing around on the net.
From what I read a long time ago, footage was shot of the apes
inside of the ship and seeing the Earth destroyed. This footage was
filmed but due to lack of budget and special effects of the day, was
scrapped.
If you look at you Conquest of the Planet of the Apes DVD real close
on the Conquest trailer, you will also see some of the footage
delted from Conquest as well. There is one scene I think in the
trailer where one of the apes turns the flame thrower on the human
during the riot.
It is too bad Fox doesn't take all of this deleted material and put
it back into the films and restore them. I would have rather them
done that and re-released them at the theaters instead on the Burton
thing.

I heard a rumor on a Sideshow message board that there will be an
upcoming Brent. This bodes well (If it's true) for more characters
from Beneath, especially General Ursus. His uniform was always my
favorite. That's one figure I would LOVE to have.

If they make more figures from Beneath I would imagine they'd also
make a Mutant.
Maybe another exclusive Gorilla. This one could be an "Invading Army"
Gorilla. Probably with a backpack, submachine gun, horn, and/or flag?

Of course they could get silly and give us Ursus and Zaius dressed in
towels!

While working on issue 13, I decided to go back and re-scan a few of the pages from issue 12 that I wasn't entirely happy with. While I'm trying not to be too picky in cleaning these pages, both in the interest of keeping a weekly schedule and to preserve as much of the original experience as possible, printing errors and all, I felt that Ploog's artwork in these issues deserved a little extra time and work. I re-scanned pages 4, 6, 8 and 10 and sent Hunter revised PDFs for parts 1 and 2 of issue 12. Those who wish can now download these corrected files from Hunter's site.

Issue 13 will be available by the end of the week.

I admire not only Greg's efforts but also his stamina. A big thank you for this
Greg, it's a huge project and takes a lot of dedication.

Hunter... Do you have enough space to host the entire run? (all at once)

And it's the best I've seen. Any chance of matching labels?

Outstanding work, Sir! The image of the Alpha Omega device for December
makes a refreshing change from snow and reindeer :0)

Great work, great site. Thanks

I agree! I liked your labels, too, but Greg's are really cool.

I'll see what I can come up with for the labels.

I'd just like to note here that Dave graciously gave me his permission to use the logo he worked up for his DVD wrap on my wrap. Thanks, Dave!

Is this the cover for the upcoming Simian Scrolls? Very nice,
John! I don't suppose you'd send an extra cover along just so that
I could frame it? It's beautiful!

I received the two Gorillas from Sideshow
today....They are the same exact figure...only the
accesories are different......the Gorilla Soldier has
a rifle and club and the Marauder has a whistle and
pole/collar. I think they turned out pretty good
although I know some will have something different to
say!

Why couldn't you? Did they time out? Did you try right-clicking on
the link and choosing "Save as..." or whatever similar option there
is?
