Unfortunately Yahoo doesn't archive image files or attachments any
more. We try to do what we can by uploading them to the Files

OK we had a good response to our Contest to celebrate the 37th
    Anniversary of original film.

To recap the contest was a variation on the old Kevin Bacon game,
getting cast members from the original to cast members of the 2001
remake without going through a POTA film. The goal being to do it
the fewest number of total steps.

Two people each did it in 11 steps, Chris Catania and Rob Tullo. In
the case of a tie we went with the person who's entry came in first.
And that person was (drumroll please) Chris Catania. Congrats Chris!
You've won the Return DVDs and the ANSA Astronaut patch.

Now as far as the answers. All but one could be done in 2 steps, the
    fifth in 3 steps.

    - Charlton Heston to Mark Walhberg:
The most popular route was that Heston was in 'The Three (& Four)
Musketeers' with Faye Dunaway who was in 'The Yards' with Marky Mark.

Alternate answers were: Heston was in 'Hercules' with Danny DeVito
who was in 'Renaissance Man' with Marky (Rob Tullo) and Heston was
in 'True Lies' with Bill Paxton who was in 'Traveller' with Mark
    (Jose).

    - Roddy McDowall to Tim Roth:
Here there were a variety of correct answers. Roddy was
in 'Overboard' with Goldie Hawn who was in 'Everyone Says I love
    You' with Tim (Chris).

Also, Roddy was in 'The Grass Harp' with Edward Furlong who was
in 'Little Odessa' with Tim (James Choe) and Roddy was in 'The
Longest Day' with Rod Stieger who was in 'Animals and the
    Tollkeeper' with Tim (Chris).

    - Kim Hunter to Helena Bonham Carter:
The most direct answer here was Kim was in 'Lilith' with Olympia
Dukakis who was in 'Mighty Aphrodite' with Helena.

    - Maurice Evans to Paul Giamatti:
The best answer here was Maurice was in 'The Jerk' with M. Emmet
Walsh (another POTA alum) who was in 'My Best Friend's Wedding' with
    Paul.

    - Linda Harrison to Estella Warren:
Now this was the only one that took 3 steps. Most likely due to each
of these ladies having few film roles. But there were several
    correct answers at 3 steps.

Linda was in 'Cocoon 2 The Return' with Courtney Cox who was
in 'Scream 2' with Jerry O'Connell who was in 'Kangaroo Jack' with
    Estella (Chris).

And Linda was in 'Airport 1975' with Sid Caesar who was in 'Silent
Movie' with Burt Reynolds who was in 'Driven' with Estella (Rob).

As well as, Linda was in 'Cocoon' with Brian Dennehy who was
in 'First Blood' with Sylvester Stallone who was in 'Driven' with
    Estella (Jose).

And finally, Linda was in 'A Guide for the Married Man' with Carl
Reiner who was in 'The End' with Burt Reynolds who was in 'Driven'
    with Estella (Rich Corbet).

Thank you again to all that entered.

Well, tomorrow is the big day... Sideshow will announce the next 12"

Wouldn't it be cool if Sideshow did one of their polystone statues of
the Doomsday bomb scaled to the 12"ers!

Can you say "Alpha AND Omega"!

Don Carter. Actually, the name of the actor was Don Wallace.

Good morning and thank you for letting me join the group,
I am looking for MP3z of the Power Records movie adaptions from the
70s. I know they used to be offered here: http://www.goatley.com/pota/
but when I attempt to download, I'm led to a "Page cannot be

Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may
need to adjust your browser settings." message. As far as I know, my

If any one already has these, please respond and let me know how I
    may get them myself.

    Mickey,

Hunter's site was recently redesigned. It is possible the links got
screwed up during the redesign. I've sent a note to him about it.
Hopefully, he'll be able to fix things. Stay tuned.

    Dear Group,
I am writing to you because I have been searching for the Power
Records Apes stories for ages and, apparently, the server where these
files are being stored is down for some reason (IE:
http://www.goatley.com/pota/ ) You don't know what it would mean to
me to be able to listen to these stories again. They were my absolute
favorite as a kid (esp. the movie adaptions), and I've never been
able to find them anywhere. I would appreciate any assistance you
    could offer.

My site was moved to a new host (a faster system with faster 'net
access) on Monday, along with a new IP address. It sounds like your
system (or your system's DNS server) may still have the old IP address
for www.goatley.com cached. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a few
days for DNS changes to propagate everywhere.

The FTP problem is one I just fixed, so you should be able to get
those now using ftp.goatley.com, user "pota", password "pota". Sorry
    for the inconvenience.

Yes. Most of Sci Fi Films that feature Atomic Bombs are of the opinion that
we could send our selves back to a prehistoric level of technology through
the misuse of our technology... Godzilla, King of The Monsters was of a
similar bent, although it was made in Japan and was a thinly disguised
parable at best about the horrors of nuclear war from the people that
survived two such nuclear attacks on their island by the USAAF during WWII.

It's funny. As few women as there were involved in these movies, I

Group: pota Message: 31066 From: Ray Date: 2/16/2005
    Subject: Customizing Sideshow figures
    .html
Hello. I just added a new photo album called "Ray's Ape Stuff".

So far I have 3 pix of some adjustments I've made to my Sideshow apes.

The first is a Sideshow Gorilla riding on a Marx horse. He has a
custom made holster for the rifle attached to the saddle along with a
rubber whip from a G.I.Joe set. He's wearing the Hasbro Ursus helmet
and collar. I'm sure that they will make an Ursus in their
upcoming "Beneath" line, but this experiment lets me know that I can
make my own Ursus if I need to (or maybe an Urko).

Next is a Gorilla with a new bandolier that I made. I didn't like the
color or texture of the one that he came with. I like this darker
brown leather better. I also changed the string on the club and
shortened it. He's standing in front of a G.I.Joe "bombed out
    building" backdrop.

Finally I have a shot of Cornelius with new sleeves. I didn't like
the wide, soft sleeve cuffs that he came with. I carefully cut them
off at the seem and glued down the loose seem with fabric glue. Then
I fashioned 2 lower sleeve lengths from a brown burlap type material.
They only go up to his elbow, but you can't tell.
I repainted Zaius's head to bring out some of the detail in the
sculpt and to make his hair a lighter shade of yellow. He's holding
    a redone paper plane.
The Gorilla has a G.I.Joe net an whip from a recent set.

I did some adjustments to my Zira -dyed her skirt brown and painted
her shoes brown. I'll try and post pix when I can.

(not dying to have him, but I guess he's necessary)

I agree! But with the Taylor/Heston head sculpt, that they're just using to make some easy money off an already existing item...       Do we assume that since they've moved on to "Beneath" that they're done with the first film? That cuts out Julius, Lucius, etc. The mutants are a good choice because no one's done them. The only ape unique to "Beneath" is Ursus, but he's been done a lot too. Maybe a chimp protester? Maybe they'll just do Brent and the mutants, do some ape-o-nauts from "Escape" (or "on the town" C & Z?), rebellion chimp, gorilla and orang from "Conquest", and ...there's quite a few they could do from "Battle". Too bad they didn't do the female gorilla from "Planet". So far their choices aren't that interesting. As with Rittenhouse, I think that's hurting sales. Is POTA really extinct or are companies just dropping the ball? Just because people aren't willing to buy 3 different Taylors at $ 40 a pop doesn't mean people aren't interested in the line. They need to be interesting so people will talk about them and wonder what's next, like with successful (and cheaper) lines like "The Simpsons" and "The Muppets". Those had a wide variety of characters. I wonder if Sideshow plans on some POTA2001 figures? - - - Jeff

I take that back. Kubrick did mutants in their "subway" set but many people aren't crazy about Kubricks. Julius was also Kubrick-ized. Lucius got Kubrick and Medicom. But no one's done Natalie Trundy. But you can put the Zira head on the "Conquest" Caesar Kubrick and make Lisa. - - - Jeff

    Welcome to the group.

I agree. Planet begins as an allegory or Swiftian satire on our
society but the final shot transforms it to a post-apocalyptic
    morality tale.

The anti-bomb message which is prevelent in many
late '60s/early '70s films is even more pronounced in Beneath with
the radiation scared mutant worshiping a nuclear bomb as their
    creator.

If you haven't seen the sequels yet, you may want to check out the
Videos section of the Group website:
    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/Misc./Stuff/Videos.ht
m There are clips and trailers of all the films.

I'm all for more apes. However, now that they are starting Beneath, I
don't think that they are going to go back and do more figures from
Planet. I don't expect a Julius or Hunt leader.
Even though I do want more apes, not humans, I still wish they would

    money.
Since Nova was in Beneath and with the Beneath Taylor being released,

Yeah, they're not quite putting the care into it that they did for their
Universal Monsters figures. I think that took a little while to start
selling, too. But they continue to do top quality work on that line. Even
the repeat characters (like tons of Frankenstein's monster) are interetsing.
Maybe Sideshow has so many licenses now it's hard to juggle. - - - Jeff

Well the description of the figure is as follows:

"Authentic clothing including the pants, tunic, boots, and robe with the Alpha-Omega
    Doomsday bomb pin."

So maybe the standard mutant outfit with the colored vest is underneath the robe (or

Thanks John. I'm sure everyone that worked on the Herald will be
glad to hear that UK fans are enjoying it. As far as a sequel, I'm
really not sure. There was a confluence of events that made it
possible in the first place. I'm not sure if that could be
recreated. Also, while it is a hit with UK fans, so far the reaction to
it by those here in the US who have received copies has been rather
    underwhelming.

The Mass costume is fine, after all, The Mass is where they reveal their "in most selves" so that outfit is fitting for the figure.

That's true enough, maybe a single Nova figure would be ok... You're right about the 2 pack though, you'd really be paying $65.00+ for a Nova figure, since the Taylor is so widely available (and he's incorrectly done anyway... The "blanket wearing" Taylor should have been bearded.)

Relax Tim, Scrolls 10 has only JUST been published in the UK
and copies are winging their way across the Atlantic as we
speak. As soon as they are ready for distribution in the U.S an
    annoucement will be made.

Not to worry, Tim. You haven't missed anything. Scrolls 10 hasn't been distributed in the U.S. yet. As far as I know Kassidy will be handling the distribution as she did the last few issues. I'm sure she'll post details about how to get a copy as soon as she receives her allotment from Scrolls Central.

You need to send your list to Sideshow. They once told me in an

people are interested in the TV show to do that line; but the do
have license to do it if they choose to

Aside from doing the obvious ape from Beneath (Ursus), some other
    Beneath apes could be:
-Another version of Zaius. Considering that he wears a slightly
different outfit in his trek to the Forbidden Zone this time (boy,
that Zaius is one snappy dresser) and considering how Sideshow likes
to redo figures that they have done already (Taylors), I wouldn't be
    surprised by this.
    -Orangutan Priest.
He had a nifty purple robe
    -More Gorillas.
At least 2, maybe 3 more Gorillas. Probably using the same figure
from the 1st line. It would be nice if they varied the head sculpt a
little. Maybe make one with the generic "pullover" mask that was so
    prevalent in Beneath.
There could be one with a backpack and a submachine gun.
One with the double horned bugle and a pink (I always thought that
flag never looked that tough) battle flag.
Maybe one with the special pistol and holster on his bandolier like
    the ape that shoots Brent.

    -Ray

I have 2 preordered. And unlike a lot on the group, I hope they make
all the Mutuants as well as Ursus and Brent. There aren't a lot of
Apes they can do for Beneath; most of them were released with
Sideshows first release. Of course, outside of Ursus, you could see
another Zaius since his Forbidden Zone outfit is different in
Beneath and more Soldier Apes. And if the do Escape, which I hope
they do, there will proably be a Stevie and Lewis and Hasseline and
Armondo since the only apes that the third movie had were Cornelius,
Zira and Milo. But I would like to have them three in their Ape
attire as well as Space suits.
What I wish Sideshow would release, and this would be HUGE, a
Polystone scale size of the Space Ship. WOOO HOOO!!!

    Why Polystone?
    Certainly not because it's cheap.
I've never seen anything in Polystone that
was cheap.  And with the weight the shipping

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that, Mark. I was surprised
to see that there were two chimps mentioned that had been born at
the Sun Coast sanctuary. I'm a little surprised. I would have
thought that the older chimps would have been neutered to prevent
this. I thought the problem was that there is an overpopulation of
    chimps in captivity.

I noticed several people would like Lewis & Stevie figures from
    Sideshow.
Something that I always wondered about them, were they a couple or
just colleagues. Rewatching Escape they seem more like colleagues.
They don't kiss or hold hands as couples would do. But then maybe
Jacobs didn't want some actor getting too familiar with his wife.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I can't recall if the script says otherwise but they strike me as just
collegues. There's clearly affection and some familiarity - but no
    clear sign of romance.

I think they were a couple... If I remember right, the novel of ESCAPE hints at that more than the movie even...
