Hi Mark,
Yep, Photoshop is the one. So what type of stuff have you
restored - anything Apes?

.htmlI have restored old slides, photos, book jackets but never any Apes stuff. I have removed
artifacts and signatures from autographed Apes photos though. Now and then I'll come
across a great photo but it will have an autograph on it so I just remove it. I also do some color matching and correcting for printed work.

Title: Planet of the Apes Revisited
Overview: Planet of the Apes Revisited is the colorful, factual account of the science fiction milestone, Planet of the Apes, and the series of movies and TV shows it inspired. post-production edits; behind-the-scenes anecdotes; a chapter on
Tim Burton's "reimagining" of the classic Planet of the Apes.

I ordered 5 books from them; shipping was $5.45 and handling was $1.00
(with no tax). I thought that was actually pretty cheap for 5 books.
There's also a $5.00 off coupon for those who spend $35.00 or more:

That's a difficult question to answer. I was pretty young at the time. The last scene with the Statue of Liberty is burned into my memory from very early childhood. Even now it remains one of the powerful scenes in film history. I would love to end a script that way, but even when I was in school pota's last scene was discussed as what a writer should avoid. It was a considered a Twilight Zone moment. I always thought they were jealous! LOL Haristas@... wrote:

Well, since Rod Serling wrote it,
it would have to be a Twilight Zone moment.
In fact on of his Twilight Zone's ended the

Despite the low-budget production, the stories for the first couple of
seasons were written by many sci-fi authors and former Trek writers,
which means some of them are very much adult-enjoyable.
I don't remember watching the third season, and didn't even realize
Ron Harper was in it until it was mentioned here a few months ago.

.htmlActually, the credit for that memorable ending is still debatable
since many sources have tried to claim they were the ones that came
up with it or have said 'such and such' came up with the idea.
Ironically the only person we are sure did not come up with it is
Boulle himself since he hated that ending.
The reference book "Legend of the Planet of the Apes" by Brian
Pendreigh discusses it in detail and describes all the claims. Some
have attributed it to director Blake Edwards, some to Jacobs, and in
the Legend book, serious consideration goes to one of the production
guys (can remember if it was Creber or another production artist)
since they had the first recorded dated instance of the statue in
one of the production drawings.
I do agree though that it has all the markings of a Serling idea,
and if I had to put my 2 cents worth, I too would say the likeliest
probability was that he came up with it.
The Pendreigh book is a great book BTW and every POTA fan should
read it! (UK publisher, but usually easy to find on Ebay.)

12 Monkeys was great, but don't forget Buckaroo Banzai.
Not as serious as 12 Monkeys, but Monkeys had its
comic moments too. Brad Pitt switching between
a thumbs up and the finger while delivering his
manic prattle was pretty funny.

Yeah, it's all over the place. But Serling does have that

Kamandi that has that though, but I'm not sure of the date.
It is a nearly ubiquitous post apoclyptic icon, that's still

In fact on of his Twilight Zone's ended the

Actually, the credit for that memorable ending is still debatable since many sources have tried to claim they were the ones that came up with it or have said 'such and such' came up with the idea. Ironically the only person we are sure did not come up with it is Boulle himself since he hated that ending.
The reference book "Legend of the Planet of the Apes" by Brian Pendreigh discusses it in detail and describes all the claims. Some have attributed it to director Blake Edwards, some to Jacobs, and in the Legend book, serious consideration goes to one of the production guys (can remember if it was Creber or another production artist) since they had the first recorded dated instance of the statue in one of the production drawings.
I do agree though that it has all the markings of a Serling idea, and if I had to put my 2 cents
worth, I too would say the likeliest probability was that he came up with it.
The Pendreigh book is a great book BTW and every POTA fan should read it! (UK publisher, but usually easy to find on Ebay.)

Ape-onauts to later take off in). Where did Milo find it? Cornelius tells the
Commission that Milo found it "on our seaboard". In BENEATH, Cornelius refers
to the Ocean as "the Sea" (differentiating it from "the Lake"). So, then,
Milo found the third shuttle from Taylor's orbiting mothership on the beach,
on the shore of the Ocean. "...on our Seaboard..." This can NOT

Dead LAKE.
So the ships are just like

.htmlVery true T. It does defeat the opening of Planet. The whole point is
that Taylor, Landon & Dodge are stranded and alone. If they had a
mothership in orbit, why wouldn't their survival kits have a short
range radio in it to contact the mothership to send down another
shuttle.
Also, in Escape it is stated several times that there were two ships
that had gone missing. So if it was only one mothership why would they
say two ships? Just doesn't make sense.
As far as the changes in ship from Planet to Escape, just chalk that up
to dramatic license, like when the bridge of the Enterprise changes
from film to film without explanation.

Perhaps Dr Milo discovered Brent's ship in the desert and Taylor's in the
lake. Taking the best of each ruined ship he created a hybrid capsule
with an extra stage capable of sending 3 ape-o-nauts at least into an orbit
around the Earth, after which the empty second stage was discarded. Heston's
crashed ship was reported to the authorities but Milo knew if a second
ship was reported there would be no end to the meddling by Dr Zaius-plus the
good doctor was busy with Ursus at the time. Just a thought.

More to ponder as you watch Ron Harper run
from dinosaurs. Marty Krofft was on the radio anhd reportedly said that
Jack Black and Kirsten Dunst will join Will Ferrell in the "Land of the Lost"
movie. It will use the "lowest of the high tech" to give it more of a feel like
the TV show (this last thing matches what the Kroffts said on their
"Lidsville" commentary about it). They are also plaaning an "H.R. Puffinstuff"
movie (with Jack Black as Witchiepoo!). Somebody check the water in Hollywood. -

them together. Thanks to Mark, Glen and Elaine for all their help. <.html

Funny you should mention this classic film.
I drank free all week when Charles Bukowski
died, but saying, "How about one on the cuff?
For me and all my friends!" I don't think there's

.htmlI think you hit the nail on the head, right here...It has been
documented that Dehn, when faced with the seemingly impossible task of
coming up with the story for EFTPOTA, remembered that there still was
Taylor's ship in the FZ, in a lake (or bay) that empties into the
sea...He never is quoted as thinking, "Ah, there's that Mother ship,
and those shuttles waiting to come down"...It is inarguable that it was
Taylor's ship in EFTPOTA, regardless of the inconsistancies...
I'm a big fan of sci-fi, and I've seen a lot of it over the last 50
years...In any sequel, there is usually great license taken as far as
continuity is concerned...
In Star Wars, the Millennium Falcon changes from three landing gear to
five, with no explanation...Luke's lightsaber also changes, for no
reason (before ROTJ)...
My favorite Star Trek bloop is where the Klingon Bird-Of-Prey bridge
DRASTICALLY changes from ST III to ST IV -- even to the "mood-lighting"
color...

thought it was well acted, with a good story and a moving soundtrack.
I LOVE big, lavish, FX heavy, scifi movies, but I thought 'Gattica's

I have some info regarding Kelley the chimp who we were trying to find. There is a Kelly at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Bastrop, Texas. She is the Kelly that we have been tracking. She was not used in AIDS research and is part of what they call their clean colony. She is alive and well and is being used as an aunt to help care for chimps born at the facility. Bastrop is one of the few labs in the country that is allowed by the government to breed chimps for research.
Their history on Kelley is the same as we already have(going back no further than LEMSIP in their records). We would need some "back story" in order to piece together her true story. Even then we might find that although it is likely they have crossed paths, this is not our Kelley.

mileage in doing a fan petition to see if Kelley can have a better

I always thought it meant they'd rather kill themselves than go back &
have Cornelius stand trial for murder (of the orderly) and possibly have the
baby's life terminated as well.

I did not do this research, I am the messenger here for someone who wanted the group to be updated. If the lab would be willing to sell her, she could probably go to one of the better
sanctuaries like Monkeyworld in England or one of the sanctuaries in Florida. This would be great but unfortunately, I think the lab owns her. Elaine <.html <.html

I too am involved in animal issues but battling labs is tough. Legally they own the animals they use. The sanctuary I visited at Central Washington University is trying to get laws changed where the conditions are more appropiate for primates. This is a tough road, labs do not see them as animals that need social contact and enrichment. Therefore, primates often develop mental illness. Then even if the laws were changed, would they be enforced adequately? Elaine<.html <.html

scrnply there is a plan by C & Z to kill themselves - alluded to,
although not enacted, in Escape. I thought he expanded on it more but
I guess not. The thought of suicide never crossed my mind when Roddy
uttered the line, because Corn always chastised mankind for being
self destructive.

.html I'm not truly suggesting anything here, more thinking out loud...
Yesterday I sat down with my son and watched Laurel and
Hardy's 'Way out West '. This was the colorized version which I
thought was very clever and enjoyable. Now I know the
colorization process has sparked outrage amongst purists who
think it an abomination but it didn't bother me at all (although I
can't say I enjoyed the film any more or less because of it).
Now, here's my point... What if the original POTA were chosen by
some bright spark for an 'enhanced' version. I'm not just talking
sound and picture quality - I mean replacement CGI effects (the
storm in the desert - the statue of Liberty) enhanced virtual
characters in the crowd scenes etc - something like the Star
Wars special editions (or 'only' editions now, I believe)
Two questions:
1: Would this be an interesting experiment that might give the
movie a new lease of life making it perhaps more accessable to
a new generation - or would it be an abomination?
2: If you were overseeing such a project what would you
enhance? Personally I'd like an exterior shot of the ship hitting
the water.

That's a tough call.
First off I'd like to say on some films I don't care.
Colorize, B & W, makes no difference to me.
Of course I'm not going to sit down to a colorize
Maltese Falcon. But if it's some added second unit
stuff they just didn't have the budget to give the director
to make, that's fine as long as they add to the story
and not detract from it. But colorization, to me has
always made the actors look like they have the hep,
and I don't mean they're cool. They look like they have
jaundice -- not a natural skin tone in the bunch. I can't
think what sort of stuff they could add to POTA.
Matching the film stock would be a bitch for a start.
But if it was possible, I for one would like more insight
into Ape culture. Something more than a trip to the
museum, or a day at the market. I know the city was
a bit small. But there must have been parts of it we
didn't see. A five second establishing shot of the
gorillas walking the horses just doesn't do it for me.
Now if they can recreate the actors as CG characters
convincingly, and it looks like they're getting close to it
now, I for one would like a bit of backstory on the main
players parts. Because once they break Taylor out, the
plotlines stay pretty taught after that, with not much other
than the cave to explore. Did gorilla attend the academy?
Was it a cradle to grave thing like modern Japan before
the bubble economy burst -- putting Lucius straight into a
job upon graduation? If Z & C were so on the fringe were
there others, who had their own visions of the future?
