Ohhh . . . I see! You thought the line's reading was " . . give us
the opportunity to kill, ourselves." Certainly there's no Ape law
preventing Apes from killing humans. It was encouraged! So this
wouldn't even be manslaughter, but more self-defense, like against being
attacked by wild animals. Okay, I could see how you might have interpreted
that way. <.html

know it would be fun to play around with scenes in POTA, but I just keep thinking of
Greedo shooting first and I can't bring myself to even think 'what if'. But I do like some of
the ideas that were mentioned.

It's hard to say because the film is so perfect the way it is, I
really wouldn't want to see anything changed.

I'm not to sure about that. I love the opening sequence. It's a much
more visceral experience as a POV shot.
However, if they wanted to CGI in the missing hatch, I wouldn't have
an objection. Or make CGI additions to Ape City to make it look
bigger, I wouldn't have a problem there either. Anything else would
be too much. <.html

It marks the first time in something like 20 years that Paramount won't

I thought the shows this year were the best for Enterprise, I liked the parallel universe theme of the last two shows. It will be interesting to see what is next in Sci-fi with Trek and SW ending. Elaine<.html <.html

Yeah I know, some of the "kids" won't watch a B & W movie, or even a
color movie that's too old. What? Are they even capable of reading
roman numerals? Maybe they can just feel the time waves coming off of them
and they think it might make them older . . . or smarter.
Just insert the name your fave flick to watch in B&W. POTA isn't
exactly a NEW movie, Star Wars isn't any longer for that matter. But they
did it smart! Spent more money instead of less. And didn't crank out
one a year. But you can't teach a studio exec new tricks, or old ones, or
anything for that matter. I think they're retarded inbreds with more
dollars then sense. They'd have George Lucas money if they could buy a
clue. But colorizing has to stop somewhere, or they'll do it to Young
Frankenstein and The Elephant Man! Where will it end? Sin
City?

there's a "Star Trek" movie in development. But it's true they're kind of
reversed, doing the opposite vehicles of what they're famous for ("Star
Wars" in the movies and "Star trek" on TV). Within one week this month the
last "Star Wars" movie and the (last?) "Trek" TV show (certainly the first
absence for a "Trek" TV show in almost 20 years) will both be finished. But
stop blubbering and feel sorry for "Ape" fans, who don't get hardly

All of the Mutant mind effects could be better. I always thought
Taylor's "ice wall" was pretty bad, though I still like the bloody
Lawgiver shot.
The NYC ruins and the Mutant city could be enchanced.
Maybe at the end a shot could be inserted showing the "Ape-o-nauts"
blasting off?
Ah hell, let's just remake the damn thing altogether! :)
"Planet" itself is pretty perfect and really doesn't need any
enhancement. One aspect I would have liked to have seen (bear with
me, this isn't as perverted as it sounds) would be to have all the
humans naked. That would have reinforced the vulnerabilty and "animal-
ness" of Taylor and the humans. Not that I'm that anxious to see
Heston's naked man ass for over an hour (Linda Harrison is another
story),but the short time he was naked in the courtroom,it was so
effective.
I mean, how many animals wear other animal's skins? If we ever saw
apes putting on animal skins, I think we'd be a little more
suspicious about their intelligence.

I´m the proud owner of all the 29 "planeta de los monos" volumen 2,
published between 1977 and 1979.They are not in good shape now but I
love it. There is an odd thing about the price (high for an 14 years
old boy in the late 70´s) nº1 to 21 are 50 pesetas, nº 22 to 27 are 65
pesetas, nº 28 and 29 are 50 pesetas again. This is the only notice
about a price going back.
All have movies adaptations except nº22 (an episode between conquest
an battle) and nº29.
I also buy "planeta dos macacos" in a holidaytrip to Lisboa in the
mid 70´s, but I can´t find it now, ohhhh.

Fox has announced they're doing a sequel to
"Alien vs. Predator". That movie was very poorly received and I think it only
did so-so (though Fox head Tom Rothman called it a "big success" in the sequel
announcement). But if they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for an A vs. P
sequel then a POTA sequel should be a no brainer (a perfect fit for Fox!).
POTA2001 did much better than A vs. P even given the bigger budget. And you know
what they say about sci-fi sequels: "Where there's one, there's another. And
another. And another. And ano - " , you get the point. Plus they've announced
"Garfield 2". That's sci-fi, isn't it?
Then there's Marvel comics, which has
announced they are going to produce their own movies and distribute them through
Paramount. Fox has "X-Men", and this summer's "Fantastic Four", but after that
the well is dry. What are they going to do for their summer tentpoles? They've
got "X-Men 3" in 2006, but after that? I say POTA2 for 2008, the 40th
anniversary. It's time, Fox. - - - Jeff

Let's examine a more successful venture.
Star Wars did an episode about every 3
years. With 16 years between the trilogies.
Fox has had 5 years. I don't think they're
even thinking about thinking about Apes.

Richard Zanuck is the one who's pursuing it. His company produced
POTA2001. He wants to save his POTA reputation or he'll lose his brownie points
for greenlighting the original. Last I heard he said Fox doesn't want to move to
fast on a sequel and burn the franchise out like they did with the originals. Of
course that sounds like a lot of whooey in this Age of the Sequel. But it did
take them awhile between "Alien"s. If you think about it, Fox really does not do
a lot of sequels to their expensive summer flicks, except "X-Men", but they have
to as part of their deal with Marvel. But it's a known fact they were planning
to turn POTA2001 into a franchise and the proof is in the pudding of the ending.

Well, he better get a move on. He's in his 70's now.
And he's made 7 movies since Apes. And make up
will only cover so much. What is he thinking? "I'll
produce it from my deathbed. Then if it flops I can
always say I was senile." I hope if they use Burton
again, God forbid, having a kid has made him grow
a pair, so he when the studio is breathing down his

We will get Shelly Winters to play the wife of an orang. We will go back in time and get a

amassing a good Apes collection and meeting some of the original
cast from the 5 'Classic' movies and tv show. To me Apes was fun
growing up, I was lucky to get some of the Mego figures and
treehouse, and made methink as I grew older how the apes 'order'
reminded me of the place some of my relatives escaped from in the
then Soviet Union. I was greatly disappointed in the 2001 'Apes',
and thought they should have continued the story from Battle
with the classic 'Apes' look. Still, it was fun to see Mr. Heston
and Miss Harrison in cameo's and it did provide a fresh opening
for 'New' Classic Apes figures and great new Box DVD sets of the
movies and tv show. I wish they'd release the cartoon. Anyway,
here's hoping someday, someone will do some more adventures on the

If I recall correctly, the one thing that sucked about the Medicom

Otherwise it would have been possible to use that figure to make a
perfect "12 Caeser.

back in 2000. Came back and was here on 9/11.:( Still, Beneath
was more than a treat for NYC fans of Planet Of The Apes, our
City is the Forbidden Zone, so we can assume Ape City is in

the cartoons on VHS. BTW, Have met many 'Apes' actors over the
years, from the Movies and even TV show. Nice 'meeting'
you 'Ray.'

I dunno. It seemed more than a days ride.
So I think it could be as far south as Maryland,

.html .html.htmlThe only thing said in PLANET about how long the astronauts trekked through the desert is that it was "many days and nights." It's never narrowed down to three days. ( And I, of course, contend that Ape City is much further south and west than New Jersey -- below Washington DC in fact! -- , and that one of the messy things about BENEATH is that they compressed the locations.
Ape City is supposed to be west of New York, yet Brent stumbles across Queensborough Plaza -- which isn't even a subway station in real life -- and when the ape army first sees the ruins of NYC they are viewing it from Queens, since the Brooklyn bridge is in the shot! And even the location of things within Manhattan is screwed up!
BENEATH is a confused mess! Study PLANET instead -- and learn the truth!

|
.html Hey all, I watched Conquest on DVD last night and something caught my
eye when I was watching it so I compared it to my letter box VHS
version and noticed a BIG (to me) flaw. When Armando and Caesar were
standing before the dog and cat memorial, on the DVD the date that all
the dogs and cats died was cut off!! When I compared it to my VHS
copy, it was there. Has any one noticed this before? Does any one know
if the date is cut off of the letter boxed Japanesse Laser disc? If it
isn't I will have to have a copy of my LD transfered to DVD.

I don't think it was three days.
He said many days and nights.
Three days was just the food
supply limit. Water who knows?
But in the desert, no more that
a few days after it ran out. I'd
say it was a week, tops.

True, I was refering to Taylor's comment that they had food & water
for three days. When they reached the scarecrows, they don't look
like they've been suffering from dehydration. So I assume that it
couldn't be far beyond the 'three days' supply of water they had.

That's true. And in many films they screw up locations like that. One
of my favorites is in 'Superman' Chris Reeve & Margot Kidder walk out
of the 'Daily Planet' building on 42rd Street & 2nd Avenue turn the
corner and then are miles away on a street in lower Manhattan. I
guess most film makers assume that other than NYC natives, no one
else with notice the mistake. <.html

.htmlI noticed that too on the DVD. They screwed up the letterbox
transfer. I'm not sure why but I've always assumed it may have
something to do with Conquest being filmed in Todd-AO rather than in
Panavision like the rest of the films. So the frame dimensions might
be slightly off.

.htmlYes I was basing it on Taylor's comment on 'when the groceries run
out'.
I agree that it could be a day or two more than the 'three days' if
they conserved their supplies well. But even if it is five days, Ape
City still can't be that far from where the ship landed, 50-60 miles
away at most.

was Mike Ploog (For the uninitiated Ploog was the chief artist for
`Terror on the POTA' from the old 70's Marvel B/W mags).
I found him a very gracious and generous man, nothing was too
much trouble and no request was too bizarre.
On display (and for sale £225 - £325) was some of the original
'Terror' artwork. The art boards looked great, still nice and bright
with clean whites and opaque blacks. Thier look certainly belied
thier age.
I've posted 4 images in a new 'Comic Expo' file in the photos
