Subject: Sideshow Brent & Prisoner Taylor
.html
The ol' UPS man just stopped by with two new additions
for my Aperoom.....Astronaut Brent and Prisoner
Taylor. As we all know Taylor is pretty much the same
dude as before but with mutant clothes, a rifle and
one of those pointy iron weapons.......and
LIPSTICK......why do they paint these so dark? On the
box his lips and hair are fair but they are very dark
on the figure....

Brent as we feared is the original picture we saw
months ago....doesn't look like Franciscus.....maybe
they couldn't get rights to his image as you don't see
his face on the box at all....you can only see his
back and Mendez's back as well......maybe they don't
want us comparing!!!

.anyway he comes with an oxygen mask (for trying to
keep Skipper alive!), a shovel (for when he can't!),
dogtags, and an empty water bottle. He looks more like
Landon or even Vincent Price....

but I gotta say I get a thrill when I see brand new
POTA stuff.....

Now waiting for Ursus!

Tim

what I meant to say was that
there was probably a specific scene (or part of one) in which Taylor
DID say "Go with God" (or something to that effect) and when it was
cut out, they then had to cut Zira's portion later in the film to
since it no longer made sense. Kind of like a domino effect.

I'll have to dig out my copy of the script to see what's actually there.
As for the cut scenes they probably ended up lost in a salt mine
with the rest of Foxes film archives or swept out from the cutting
floor.  I've only ever seen stills of those scenes.  And if Fox knew
exactly where to lay their hands on them, no doubt they would be on
the DVD extras.

I don't think the "Go with God" line was ever filmed.  It was changed long before they shot that scene.  Remember, the last shooting script we have is from May 1967.  The last scenes in the movie were shot in the first week of August '67.  Much changed by then.  Oh, yes!  Oh, yeeeeeeessssss!

--well said johnny, that's the alchemy and the magic of those
mysterious apes which changed our lives forever. i think the pota
saga is the only series of movies-along to the mad max trilogy-to
feature such unique multifaced power, originality + entertainment
+ philosophy on life + social issues + cinematic awe.

mind that, i think that BATTLE is truly a masterpiece...go figure.
every ape movie is a gift to human race!

I don't know about that. Kevin Burns, who produced "Behind the Planet of the Apes" has a room full of never before seen transparencies, photos, reels of film etc from many Fox productions including the Irwin Allen TV series from the 60's. Somewhere in there, there may be a reel or 2 of 'lost footage" from POTA too.

Depending on the browser, Mac users just click and hold and select save as target, etc.
Safari requires the control key plus click and hold for these options.

They only have one other POTA desktop, but it's for the

    Hello All
I was talking to a rep from Sideshow and he said that they have redone
the Caesar scuplt and they should post pictures on the site buy next
    week.
ALSO, he said if the Ape fans don't want to see the line end to flood
Sideshow with email and snail mail. He said that they ususally listen
to the customer but their didn't seem to be much of an interest since
not many of them are selling out. But he stated nevertheless they
(Sidshow) needs to hear from us if we want the line continued. So come
on guys, "Fight Like Apes!!!" to get more Apes from Sideshow!!

No doubt because they're so freaking expensive! That's why I didn't
buy any. And won't. (Yeah, I know I've said that before, but it
amazes me when somebody puts something like this out at an exhorbitant

I agree. I own an insane amount of Planet of the Apes merchandise but
I didn't buy any Sideshow figures. Before I had a family I would buy
most anything with a Apes logo on it. $30-$50 is way too much to spend
on more toys to add to the collection of toys my son can't play with.
That's why I am such a huge fan of your site Hunter. I have been able
to make CD's and print out the Power Records comics, print an
unbelievable amount of coloring pages and activities and share all
this with my son at no expense (and without fear of ruining my
    originals).

You can get some Sideshow figures from Sideshow after their initial
run for half price! Not only that... the really ugly ones get sent at
Christmas-time to customers as thank you gifts!!!

I think they are a reasonable price for limited edition collectible
dolls as far as that goes. The question(s) is more... "What is their
value to you?" "Do you want to spend this price for POTA
memorabilia?" "Are you willing to wait it out and catch whatever
comes down the eBay pike later on?" "Can you afford to and do you
want to help swing the pendulum in this one clock?" "Does it matter?"

I waited for the cards and realized it is very likely I will never own
any of them! I can't afford it and can't justify the expense! I did
buy some of the Sideshow dolls, but not all of them through Sideshow --
where they are more expensive. I would love the mutants, but am

Let's face it, black is just usually the color of the bad guys. I don't
see it as the gorillas taking on the clothing color of the humans. It

There's that, too. Had they put out one or two at a time, I might

Well, are the gorillas bad guys? I'd not made the 'red' connection with
Burton's apes, but you're right---maybe there was an unconscious choice
on the part of the designers there. If black is the colour of bad guys,
green is the colour of the Irish, which clinches my argument that

So I can expect an ugly doll at Christmas time for being a loyal customer? I just recently received another email from Sideshow stating that Ursus is on the way to their warehouse. They described him as Ursus from the Buffy the Vampire Collection. Makes me laugh, I wonder if Ursus is aware he is hanging around with a bunch of vampires. Elaine

I never noticed that (the one time I saw Burton's film) but Fox had a bunch of leftover blue coveralls from Voyage as well so the ourangs could have been wearing blue in Conquest instead.

The "Blue Zaius" which is seen in some early merchandise (the boxes
for the Aurora plastic models for example) has always made me
wonder. Someone somewhere started this Blue orangutan motif a long
time ago and totally independent of anything filmed or tested
    (excluding POTA 2001 of course).

I've asked before but never really gotten an answer. Does anyone
know what was the first item to indicate blue orangs? I suspect
that once one item had it, the others could simply have followed
    suit (pun inteded).

It's just one of those things that bugs me. Even more now that it's
been pointed out that POTA2001 also used blue for orangs.

I always assumed that too. I know the Addar plastic model used it, as
you said, and the Zaius bank (the smaller one) also uses the blue
    suit.

Hmmm, I don't remember this being the case, but maybe there was a
shortage of the color orange that was available for plastic toys in
    the '70s? 8-)

The full size in the folder is 800x600. That should do you fine unless you need it bigger. I
tried the 800x600 on my 1280x960 monitor and adjusted it to fill the screen without losing
    quality.

I had this discussion with Kass once. There is no 800x600 option
available to me from the Photos folders. I think Kass and I
established that the full size is available only to admins and the
folder creator. For everyone else, only a thumbnail is available
    (400x300, in this case).

No such limits are put on the "Files" section, but the limitations are
in place for all of the "Photos" section. Or at least they are for
    me.

If you want to see what I see, you can see it here:

    http://www.goatley.com/hunter/misc/clipboard.jpg

It shows "Full size: 174KB", but it's not a download link, and there's
no other method for downloading the full size image.

The movie Zaius MixNMold wore blue as well (but the TV

    doll....the parachuting Zaius.....the Windup Zaius
(walking and on horse) and 2" tall Zaius from the
    playset....

My theory is that when they started making all these
toys they found a pic of the Minister who was in a
purplish blue tunic.... and just went with it....I've
seen a few posters where they colored his tunic blue
blue......I know a few times they put the Minister's
face or the Huston Lawgiver on something and called it
    Zaius!

      Ahhh There it is.
      Much better than the
      Escaper Paper.  The
      background Zira in that
      had so much texture you
      could hardly make her face
      out as all.  And Cornelius
      wasn't much better.  I'm all

back a notch.  I can be guilty

      Here's another (unlikely) possibility...

The print trade uses 4 colours Cyan (blue) Magenta (red) Yellow and Black. In the days
before computers tradesmen would use separated film elements which were stuck down
onto clear plastic sheets in tight registration. If the Yellow and Cyan separations were
mistakingly transposed, when printed, orange would become blue

Of course this wouldn't just affect the clothing - hair and skin would look pretty strange
      too.

      Todd:

I'm pretty certain the UK mags reprint all of the stories. Near the end they actually start printing the Planet adaptation again, so I imagine they ran out of 'new' material to print. For the same reason I'm pretty sure that all of the articles from the U.S. mags were also reprinted in the UK editions. I haven't done an exhaustive indexing of the stories, though, so I can't state that definitively.

One thing that wasn't reprinted from the U.S. mags is the U.S. letter columns, and quite a few of the U.S. covers didn't appear on the UK mags.

It's funny, but lately it seems to be fashionable to leave the Pantone color listings on ads.  I'm not sure how this all got started, but it probably started as a mistake at the printers.  But even when Adult Swim on Cartoon Network shows their weekend schedule as a bumper before and after commercials, they list new series and top rated shows by Pantone number, rather than having one in say blue and the other in red.  Strange but true.
