I've just put pics of these in the Files section under "Lobby Displays". In
addition to these items there was also a 30" x 40" light box display.
The banner (which is Da-Glo!) and the Standee were also available for the
other four movies and "Go Ape!" release. This is all information from the
original pressbooks ....whether or not they actually existed ...I don't
know.....Like I said I've only ever seen a pic of Rory standing in front of the
banner but have never seen them anywhere else! If anyone has any info on
them...let me (and/or John/Lonfan) know!

I have a Marcus door poster which I purchased in the 70's and kept ever since. The only other one I ever saw was a Taylor one on eBay. And no, mine is not for sale I'm willing it to my kids when I pass on!

Now that I think about it more, the guy in Vagas won the 30x40 light box display on eBay.  I forget how much I bid on it, but it was a really cool item.  It had been in the basement of a theatre in Seattle or someplace like that for thirty years and had never been used or even taken out of the box.  It was in mint condition.  I would have loved to get it, but my collecting "fever" has long passed and I really don't think about it anymore.

Those POTA door panels are very rare.  I was once in a bidding war on eBay for a couple of them (Taylor and Zaius) And I bid a little over $1000.00 each for them.  I was crazy in those days, but I'd have paid it.

Well, anyhoo.....

I got outbid.  Wasn't too sorry I was actually.  I know Joe Russo has a couple of them, and I think he knows someone else who has a couple, but know one is parting with them.

I just got the new Brent figure from Sideshow...Brent is my favorite
human (aside from Nova, for very different reasons!)...And to say that
the Brent figure is a big disappointment, is an understatement!...
With his bugged-out eyes, and his hands behind his back/butt, he looks
like a young Vincent Price who's just been "goosed"...

How Did You Word Your E-bay Search Rory? I tried a Search for Planet

No I'm NOT trying to get the Door Posters (Especially after what Rory
Said - a $1000 To Rich for my Blood! lol) No What I was Askin'(and
STILL Askin' lol) was IF anyone had picked up any EXTRAS of the REPRINT
Movie Posters that were being sold around 1999/2000 at some of the
Video/DVD chain Stores (like Sam Goody or Tower Records or Suncoast)
They must have been Selling the POTA and "Beneath" Reprint Posters to
coinside with the Release of the Boxset (that came w/ Behind The POTA
Show) Well A few Months after Having these NOT selling for $20.00 each
Suncoast began Marking them down,Eventually I saw OTHER Movie Posters
selling for as little as 79 CENTS OF COURSE I waited thinking that
NOBODY was gonna Snag these even at $10.00 ea. So I was waitin' till
they were gonna go down to 5.00 (Please understand it's not that I'm
cheap it's just that I have a wife and 3 Kids! so I GOTTA go cheap
sometimes lol) well Long story short SOMEONE bought them ALL so I've
been lookin' for them ever since. lol But I would love to see a Pic of
    your Door Poster Bruce!
    Thanks,

Yeah I KNOW the "Go Ape" Promo Very well, I have One Version That
the "20th Century Fox" Logo is Covered by a Sticker that sez "Mego
Want's You To GO APE" I love the Gorilla on those! lol anyhoo I
Sincerly Believe those "Door Posters" Do/Did Exsist (Cause you figure
Fox had High Hopes (They Knew) POTA was gonna be HUGE!! lol But I'm
sure "Battle For" didn't get as many various sized Advertising. I
have a Bunch of the "Ad Slicks" for Battle and the Rest Battle has
the LEAST amount of Various sized Newspaper Ads Which makes sense if
you listen to how on the Behind The Scenes Show,Everybody Connected
with POTA Mentions how the Budgets got smaller as they went on right?
Still THE BEST FILM SERIES EVER MADE imho lol Meanwhile, EVEN IF IT'S
NOT THE DOOR POSTER I HOPE THAT SOMEBODY HERE MIGHT BE ABLE TO HOOK
ME UP WITH AT LEAST A SCAN From the ORIGINAL ADS FOR POTA BUT the
One's I'm looking for are Individual Pics that ran in Newspapers (and
those Door Posters!) The Ones I Recall in the Ads were as Follows at
the Top one said: "This Is Marcus His Job Is Hunting And Killing
Humans On The POTA" then there was "This Is DR.Zauis Is Job Is
To ...on The POTA and So On the Taylor and Marcus (if I remember his
name correctly) are the ones I really need! Again I'm Sorry to Ramble
BUT I just wanna Make Clear that if ANYONE even has a SCAN of these
Ads or Posters I'd apprecate it I wanna Print them to Frame and
Display behind my Kits! BTW one last Clue I have about these is The
Same Adversting I just Discribed to ya' was used as a Background on
Some of the Regular Movie Posters I've seen online. I hope somebody
recognizes what I'm Blabbering about lol I just don't want ya' to
look at me like "Something That Just Fell Out've A Tree!" lol (it was
    a Heston Line lol) nevermind

I like the 'primitive' gorillas. If the cover is indicative of the content
it looks like these guys won't be afraid to experiment. That's what
I'm looking for, that's what we need - a mixture of the old and
familiar with a good dose of the new and unexpected. I'm not
familiar with Joe O' Brian but Ty Templeton and Richard Pace
    are both awesome talents.

Put me down for a half-dozen copies!

Ahhhh....  like I type the words "Planet of the Apes" and see what comes up.  I set it at highest priced stuff first, since you can pretty much count on original posters being "pricey"!

Anyway -- or Anyhoo! -- the market runs hot and cold.  Sometimes there's lots of stuff, them for weeks all anyone is selling is junk from the remake.

All I can say is check eBay EVERYDAY!  Especially if you're POTA CRAZY and have not got a girlfriend to tell you you're a complete geek!

What we need is scans of every page of every pressbook!  I have them all, including one for the PLANET/BENEATH "Two Apes for the Price of One" '71 re-issue, but when I scan them they don't look good.  My cheap scanner can't handle those "dots"

I'm sure somebody here knoes what I'm talking about.

      I think,
MAYBE Brent's time counter stopped along the way.
      Maybe Taylor's one was accurate.
Maybe Milo "refurbished" a *THIRD* ship, being the second we

The correct date is 3978... The whole 3955 thing came about because Paul Dehn didn't refer back to PLANET while writing the BENEATH script, so he screwed up on the date (among other things)... But PLANET's date is correct...

And there is no third ship... The ship from ESCAPE is supposed to be Taylor's from PLANET... And if you're one to say "Well it doesn't look like Taylor's ship", that's because they used creative license and reworked the prop ship to what they wanted it to be like for the opening scenes of ESCAPE...

As far as I'm concerned, PLANET OF THE APES takes place in the year 3978.  That's what it reads on the clock, that's what it is.  There's also Taylor's line in the movie that the astronauts are two thousand years in the future "give or take a decade."  I don't think it's any accident then that the makers of PLANET, knowing the film would be released in 1968, set the movie two thousand and one decade into the future.

As for the year 3955 that is given in the sequels, well I will never understand how they allowed such an inconsistency.  I guess they just didn't catch it the first time with BENEATH.   So, I just ignore it and look at each of the movies as separate entities.  (Actually as two separate enties, the original, and the sequels.)  The series is five individual movies, not one continuous story cut up into five parts -- it just ain't so.  If you want to have it that way, fine for you, but it doesn't work for me, it ain't the reality of the thing because with the first two films they didn't know they'd make another.

I actually think David Watson did a good job as Cornelius in BENEATH.  The fact that it's not McDowall has never, ever -- as I recall -- really bothered me.  Nowadays, I find what I'm really bothered by is the differences in McDowall's makeup, hair and costume between PLANET and ESCAPE.  The tunic that McDowall wears in PLANET never appears again.  He's wearing the cheaper version in ESCAPE that Watson wore in BENEATH!  And McDowall's Cornelius wigs in ESCAPE look like he borrowed them from Hunter!  I also don't think that in ESCAPE his appliences are the same sculpts from the first film.  Hunter's too, but I could be wrong.  Oh, there are a multitude of inconsistencies between the films!

Roddy was directing a film when BENEATH was being made, so he did not appear in it. Instead, they got the British actor David Watson to play Cornelius...

In the first 3 films the apes do wear "ape shoes" shaped like their feet with a toe sticking out on one side. Even thought the Sideshow Caesar is wearing them, the apes in Conquest wear 'deck shoes' the same color as their coveralls.

Cover and the Other Yellow. Hey But I gotta tell ya' One Funny thing
I noticed In the PB for "Conquest" (Which in my Opinion has the

of these is A shot of Gov. Breck (Don Murry) On his Knees in front of
Ceaser as a Bunch of Gorillas look about to Crack his Skull with
their Rifle Butts. Well This Still MUST have been from a Rehersal
Cause there in Roddys Hand/Paw IS A PINT CARTON OF MILK! With A STRAW
noless! I swear this is true and IF you looked closer in the
Background there was another Ape Actor SANS THE MASK But still with
the Dark Greasepaint around the Eyes. Yet This was a Pic to be run in
Ads or Reviews Seems Strange to me. Btw It Seems to me that of ALL
the Apes Movie Memrobillia out there CONQUEST seems to be the EASIEST
(and cheapest) to Obtain. Again it's probly cause it's such a Crappy

I think they meant there was no accommodation in the shoes for the "thumb".  But the chimps in Monkeyed Movies and Lancelot Link wore human shoes as well.  So I don't see it as a contradiction.

Last night on Creature Features they had a nice little segment
on Plant of the Apes, mostly the Cage scene with Zira and Zaius.
It's in the episode called Evolution Revolution.  It's a narrated
clip show of sci-fi and monster movies with common themes.

What are you talking about, T?  Is this "Creature Features" a local thing or what?  I've never seen it here in S. FL.

I wouldn't have seen it either, but it was on

I've noticed that a recent trend in trading cards is to title them 'The quotable James Bond'

And looking at the Zira wallpaper, I was wondering… If this was the first of a series - or if,
heaven forbid, there were a new series of affordable trading cards called 'The quotable
POTA' - which lines of dialogue might sum up individual characters?

Taylor: 'I can't help thinking that somewhere in the universe there has to be something
better than man. Has to be.'

Cornelius: 'Beware the beast man, for he is the devil's pawn'.

Zaius: 'Man is evil, capable of nothing but death and destruction'.

Ursus: 'The only good human… is a dead human!'

      Any other suggestions?

Not sure if you're still with the PotaDG, but I found out about these
new comics about a month ago here in Ottawa. I ran into Ken Fowler and
comic artist at a small local show here and happened to overhear him
talking about one of his new assignments which was a new POTA comic.

I then started asking a lot of questions ;)

Basically this is an all Canadian new comic. The guy running it is Ty
Templeton (see cover) and Ken will also be one of many artists
involved. Unfortunately he could not say too much more other than it
would be 'classic' apes. (Which is why this new cover surprised me a
bit, the look not being the 'classic' clothing.) Michael Whitty
followed up by getting in contact with Ty (in Toronto), but there was
not much more he could add to what was already known. The only other
piece of info I could get was that the schedule calls for it to come
      out sometime in early 2006.

      Ty's page is at:
      http://www.templetons.com/ty/

Ken's site is a collective of a few artists: enterthehive.com

Maybe this is something that the people involved would be more willing
to divulge news to you guys at Scrolls for some free publicity.
Otherwise they seem pretty tight lipped.

      Dario

'Lousy human bastards' sums up the young Caesar. With Zira, I can't

James, brilliant idea regarding the comic shop listing---wish I'd
thought of that.It would give the comic a boost if we all at least ask

be a cheap way to support a real Apes project.I'm going to pre-order

The set where Taylor meets the lobotomized Landon was used in an episode of the "Logan's Run" TV series too.

As far as I know, all of those 'quotable' sets came from Rittenhouse, who currently has the Apes license. The nice thing about a quotable set is that you wouldn't have to restrict it to just the films and the two TV shows. You could have sub-sets with quotes from the original novel (with cards featuring either original art or cover art from the different editions of the novel) and quotes from the comics (with cards possibly featuring some of Dave's restored comic cover art).

I've noticed that a recent trend in trading cards is to title them 'The quotable James Bond'
      (or Star Trek, or whatever).

      Any other suggestions?

.html.html I've just read that Fox is working on a 40th Anniversary edition DVD of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and a 30th Anniversary edition of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE show.  So, I guess Fox really likes celebrating anniversaries and I would guess there should be a 40th Anniversary APES collection in 2008.  NOW, I said "NOW!" would be a good time to flood them with requests for what you'd like to see in the way of extras.  Knowing how late with the observances of anniversaries they are, it probably won't be until late 2008 that they'd release anything.  So, it'll be over three years from now.  That's gives us plenty of begging time, AND I DO MEAN BEG -- if you care.  I know most of you out there are probably pretty burned out with this by now, but this is the way it has always been with a corporation like Fox.  Better they hear from you than if they don't.

      .html
      Hi Apes fans

I'm an artist from australia, and I'm comming over to U.S in november
to do a reseidncy. While I'm there I'd really like to scout out as
many of the set locations from the orginal films/TV show as possable.
Dose anyone have any info on this, I've found a few things on the net
already like lake powell and zuma beach. Is it hard to find any
recognisable spots in malibu creek state park? And what about the
      colarado river in Utha.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thankyou
