Yeah, thanks James, this is incredibly helpful. The other day I remarked 'put me down for a
half dozen copies' - now I can actually go out and do it! I'm going to email all the mail
order businesses in my neck of the woods and ask them if they plan to stock the title -
let's all get a little awareness going.

That would be very flattering although I'd much rather see the genuine, unrestored, clean
cover art. Forget Picasso and Da Vinci - give me Bob Larkin any day :0)

Dario, thanks for the info.Is it Ken or Tom Fowler? Tom Fowler did the
art recently on Green Arrow and looked really good.I'm not familiar
with a Ken Fowler.I think the look of the gorilla on the poster bodes
well for this series. It seems to accept that thses Apes didn't just
evolve overnight, which suggests that these creators are going to do
this right, with an adult and serious approach to the classic saga. The
cover of issue 18 of Marvel's mag has a similar bull gorilla going mad
and, let's face it, had effects and budget allowed, the movies would
have bulked up their gorillas---much as Tim Burton did. How these Apes
evolved has always been a hot topic and I'm really looking forward to
seeing how this comic turns out.John, Scrolls.

This sounds great! I'd like to see an anthology format with varying length stories (rather
than a single on-going story line). That many artists are involved may mean I'm going to
    get my wish.

    >Unfortunately he could not say too much more other than it

This just gets better and better :0). I can't blame the guy for not saying much, comic
liscenses are riddled with all kinds of legal mumbo jumbo. Until everyone involved has
given thier approval, speaking prematurely can often spell disaster.

We will certainly ask the question but don't be surprised if Scrolls is asked to respect the
same level of confidentiality as Ken.

I just uploaded some old letters and addresses at FOX in the Files
    Section:
    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/FOX%20Letters/

I believe the letters were written by Rory & Cougar for the 35th
    Anniversary editions.

The addresses are old and I'm not sure if those people are still at FOX
    or in the same positions.

I've never had an email address for Fox.  I won't trust any I would find.  Besides, emails are so easily ignored, deleted or never even opened.

Hey I can't thank you enough NOW IF I could just Find that January
1970 Cosmopolitan Magazine with a VERY HOT Pic of Linda Harrison on
it I could Die a happy Apefan! lol Seriously I wanna also thank DAVE
      B. for Posting the Pictures of My Ape Kits and a few others (non ape)
You can see my son TAYLOR inspecting the Model of his Namesake! lol
so as I was sayin' before I/we just recently moved and now the Wife
is happy cause instead of filling up our livingroom with my Museum Of
Horrors I/We actually got a place with an Office attached.Three of
the four Walls or Windowed (hence the Name for these kinds of Rooms
are often called Florida Rooms) it's great I have my Huge "Forbidden
Planet" Saucer Suspended from the Ceiling, and my Figure Kits on
shelves Around the Room. The ONLY downside is this Office catches ALL
the Sunlight which can Play HELL on some of my Posters and
Collectables,But I've hung up some thin Curtins just to Diffuse the
Direct Sun. A couple of HUNDRED Promo and Political PINS hanging up
helps Block out the Sun too! lol (YES I HAVE TWO APES PINS From A
Video Store They're Advertising the Remake BUT I also have an ACTUAL
FUR COVERED Pin with the ORIGINAL POTA Logo in Silver Plate! I love
that one it was for the ORIGINAL 5 Films. As I mentioned before IIRC
I'd told you guys I was a Theater Projectionist and I worked at a lot
of OLD "Inner City" Former Movie Palaces that were Beautiful in the
1930's BUT now they ONLY showed Films like "SHAFT" or "TEXAS
CHAINSAW" BUT this was in the Late 80's early 90's so in my Area
(Washington D.C. and VA) these Classic Theaters are all exstinct. BUT
before the went I was welcomed to Grab all the ONE-Sheet (Posters)
and Lobby Cards I could EVER WANT!! It was Beautiful In that HUGE
(two Station Wagon Loads) AFTER making sure to Shake out ANY pests
lol I began to Inventory what I had OF INTEREST TO YOU GUYS was LOBBY
CARDS to APES 1 and 4 and Presskits to Apes 1,2,4 and 5 (I dunno why
no Escape From?) Anyhoo, So I HAD (my dumb Ass Sold them! for $20.00
Years ago) I had those Tall Thin Presskits that had the Ads AND the
offer for the Door Posters. I remember One of the PB's had an Orange
Cover and the Other Yellow. Hey But I gotta tell ya' One Funny thing
I noticed In the PB for "Conquest" (Which in my Opinion has the
Crappiest Poster of All The Films,) there was 4 or 5 B&W Stills,One
of these is A shot of Gov. Breck (Don Murry) On his Knees in front of
Ceaser as a Bunch of Gorillas look about to Crack his Skull with
their Rifle Butts. Well This Still MUST have been from a Rehersal
Cause there in Roddys Hand/Paw IS A PINT CARTON OF MILK! With A STRAW
noless! I swear this is true and IF you looked closer in the
Background there was another Ape Actor SANS THE MASK But still with
the Dark Greasepaint around the Eyes. Yet This was a Pic to be run in
Ads or Reviews Seems Strange to me. Btw It Seems to me that of ALL
the Apes Movie Memrobillia out there CONQUEST seems to be the EASIEST
(and cheapest) to Obtain. Again it's probly cause it's such a Crappy
lookin' Poster. lol Well I've bored you long enough But lemmie just
say Again my thanks and YEAH TIM OR MARK I WOULD LIKE THE "Marcus"
AND FOR SURE the "Taylor" for my Son.

      JOHN/LONFAN

This question might have been answered before, what happens to movie posters in theaters after the movie leaves? I was going to ask one of the theaters near me for the pota 2001 poster after the movie left. Elaine

Elaine, By rights, all publicity material remains the property of the issuing studio and in
theory should be returned. Because of the cost and admin involved this rarely happens so
it's usually down to the discretion of the theatre.

Most of it probably goes to a member of staff and is then sold on eBay.

My local cinema stores them for a year and then has a charity sale, selling posters for
      about .50p each. ($1)

I was going to post a correction, but you already caught me. :(
It is indeed "Tom" Fowler. Don't know why I typed "Ken".
I was also going to correct the date as I went back and checked that
too. Someone mentioned that the new comics may be appearing at the end
      of this year, not 2006.

As for me, I'm trying not prejudice my feelings towards the comics
based on what part of the timeline is targeted. While I would enjoy
any good story, I've always felt that the "Conquest" years are not as
well represented, so I think I would enjoy seeing that in this series.
For all we know, it may not even be a single story arc, but more an
anthology of very different stories. Wouldn't that be something!

Got a question for those people here who regularly buy comics in
advance. How early do dealers have a chance to take order? Should I
really be inquiring now, or it it too early. I've seen a issues
of "Preview" (or some title like that) that the dealers get (and sell)
showing up and coming comics, but I'm not sure how early are the
advance notices, and more importantly how early can dealers actually
      order specific comics.

"Previews" is usually filled with items comic vendors can order for
the following month. They sometimes have differnt release dates
posted for things not scheduled for release the next month, but that
they want to promote just the same. Usually the toys and statue type
stuff get advertised well in advance.

Actually My Paasion for about the last 10 years is Building those
Model Kits. the Term is "Garage Kits" Again you can see a few in the
Photos or Files Section Right here! For this past Christmas the Wifey
gave me this Beautiful and HUGE Model of Ol' Chuck Heston
aka "Taylor" as Two Gorillas are Restraining him! Then For my B-Day
(in March) I got this Companion Piece called the "Mutant Leader"
Which can Also be seen in the Photos or Files Section HERE! (Again my
thanks to Dave for posting those I Can Barely Work one of These
Computer Contraptions! lol) I used to Build all the Apes Model Kits
as a Kid and Bought them All again when they got Rereleased a few
Years ago but then about 12 Years ago I found out about All these
guys (and Gals) who grew up with these old Models and Decided because
of their Interest and Sculpting Talent to Make NEW Beautiful Kits of
their Favorite Subjects (Including LOTS of APES! lol) And btw I
enclose a Couple of Great sites Where you can go Look and Chat about
ALL these things Please check it out!

Dario, I think the thing to do is to try to make the comic shops aware
in advance by just asking about the new Apes comic, and whether it can
be pre-ordered.That should help get a buzz going.I get Previews each
month and as soon as I see any Apes in there I'll be sure to post it
      on Group.John, Scrolls.

I've just got to say that I remain in awe of Greg's stamina on this project. I hate scanning, I
find it desperately dull and tedious and I would have climbed the wall long ago. Greg has
hung in there, and as regular as clockwork has been adding to this valuable archive.

I enjoy getting my weekly nostalgia fix when I see a new issue posted. I never cared for
those UK covers at the time, they always seemed - to a 13 year old - the very poor cousins
of thier US counterparts. But seeing them again now, 30 odd years later makes me feel like
a teen again, if only for a minute or so.

Please keep them coming, Greg, I'm loving it.

Oh, and can we please see the return of your made up taglines. "Issue 41! The sense
shattering, eyeball searing, continuation of Mighty Marvel's landmark adaptation of
      Beneath!"

Michael also noted on the DG that this issue was lacking an exciting introduction by me, for which I apologize. When I noticed that Hunter had posted the latest issue a little earlier than normal, I made a quick announcement rather than take the time to review the issue for anything worth noting.

Upon review I did notice that this issue is noteworthy in that it has far fewer apes than your typical issue. There are no apes in the story itself, as this part of the adaptation has Bent being questioned by the mutant council. There is an ape on the cover, and a photo of the TV Zaius graces the letter column, but that's it. So the tagline for this issue could read:

Man and his descendants take center-stage in this virtually ape-free installment of the thrilling adaptation of Beneath the Planet of the Apes!

81" x 81"   A 6-sheet is the largest poster you can get next to the 24-sheet, which is billboard size.

The PLANET 6-sheet is the same image as the window card.  Examples of all the posters are on the last page of the pressbook.

Not only that, but it was so badly done.  Ed Wood couldn't have done it worse on a bad day.  The whole movie was just one big bastardization of the entire concept and, really, I think truthfully, it's buried the franchise.  It was a total disaster.

Thankfully, the original movie seems unblemished by the thing.

I've recently started collecting the marvel UK weekly apes comics
but can anyone clarify which are reprints. I'm only really
interested in collecting the stories rather than than every comic
ever published, at least at this stage.

I'm aware that there are several series; US "Curtis" monthlies, UK
weekly, US "Adventures on POTA" and UK Mighty World Of Marvel Feat.
      POTA.

I know that the US "Adventures on POTA" reprints the movie
adaptations from the weekly / monthly titles so I guess my questions
      are:

      1) Is EVERYTHING from the US "Curtis" monthlies reprinted in the UK
      weeklies?

      2) Is there any original material in the UK Mighty World Of Marvel
      or is this just reprints?

      3) Any tips where I can buy any of this stuff other than ebay?
(bearing in mind that I live in the UK)

      Thanks in advance,

Adam, welcome to the group.Taking your questions in order

1.Curtis was just the distribution company and those Apes mags are pure
Marvel.Nearly all of the strips, bar a couple of pages here and there,
were reprinted in the UK weekly, sometimes twice. The best checklist has
just appeared courtesy of Rob Kirby in Volume3 of the Comic Book Artist
      Collection (www.twomorrows.com)
2.There WAS an Apes strip that only appeared in the UK comics.Issues 23-
30 feature the Apeslayer strip, a cut and paste adaption using Marvel's
War of the Worlds/Killraven strip--once seen, never forgotten, and
reviewed by Rob in the CBA volume 3.Also, the UK comics had some
excellent colour posters(mainly TV Series, although not all of the US
Mag articles found their way into the UK comic.
3.The US mags are expensive, and the UKs are creeping up.30TH Century
      Comics usually have the weeklies--tel 020 8788 2052, web,
      www.thirtiethcentury.free-online.co.uk.They're based in Putney.There
are some trade paperback collections of Planet, Beneath and Terror, but
      they're pretty rare.
      Good hunting! John, Scrolls.

Elaine, I would argue that the sequels DO hold up to the original. The
original is not a perfect film--the humour elements are jarring, I
      think---but you won't find me saying it's not a classic.It's THE
classic! Beneath, however, is a really, really deep(no pun intended!)

the Lucas sequels in tone and story.Battle aint perfect but it's still
a gripping movie, in my view. All three have excellent plots, excellent
screenplays, excellent direction, scores and acting. They are also, in
my humble opinion, not just rip off sequels but solid tales in their

I enjoy all the sequels(Beneath is my least favorite) but still feel the original is a classic
movie that is even better than many of the movies today. If the sequels were not made, I would still want comics and novels etc about pota. Conquest will always be one of my favorite movies(despite it's flaws) because it is the first pota movie I saw and I was hooked.
Next to the original, Battle is my favorite despite being aimed at kids, because of the variety
of characters and the story. I feel Escape is a good movie but I like the movies with more apes in them. Elaine

No, I think the reason you've never seen it
is because it was on at 4:00 in the morning.
I wouldn't have seen it either, but it was on
right after Blade Runner.  They showed three

I have a couple 40x60s of PLANET, but they're in rough shape.  Those size posters were mostly displayed at Drive-Ins and those places didn't take care of things too well.  American Half-sheets are 28x22, half the size of American 1-sheets (27x41).  I like Half-sheets because they look nice displayed.  1-sheets seem a bit much for the inside of a home.

The 30x40s that you mention are "British Quads."  I really like the British Quad to PLANET, but I've never been able to get one -- and now I've lost interest.  The collecting fever has passed.

.html.html20th Century Fox today confirmed that it is supporting Blu-ray Disc, rather than HD-DVD, in the upcoming high-definition format war. The move has been expected for almost a year - last October the studio joined the Blu-ray Disc Association as an advisory member, but said they had yet to decide which format they would ultimately support (Fox is, of course, also a member of the DVD Forum ). Now their preference for the format is official. With their decision, Fox joins Sony, MGM and Buena Vista as the major Blu-ray Disc supporting studios. By comparison, the HD-DVD camp includes Warner Bros., Universal and Paramount.

In addition to its greater data storage capacity and features that Fox considers to be a greater technical innovation beyond the existing DVD spec, the main reason Fox ultimately decided to support Blu-ray Disc over HD-DVD is that the Blu-ray Disc spec calls for a particular form of renewable copy protection, which is considered more robust. Fox and other studios had called for the HD-DVD format to include the same renewable copy protection, but forces within the HD-DVD camp apparently believed that it was too expensive and unnecessary. Despite this announcement, there's no specific word yet as to which titles will be among Fox's initial Blu-ray Disc releases when the format officially launches early next year.

So.... eventually you'll all be buying POTA on blu-ray DVD for High Definition, maybe in 2008!
