Exciting stuff, but I've been spoiled by your incredible artwork,
Neil. These pages are a bit of a letdown from the great work you've
produced.

.htmlGrag, the sets are awesome, and i am loving the UK series. I also
enjoyed the power records section on Hunter's site. I was wondering
if you had good quality scans of the front and back of the POTA LP
that had the 4 non-movie stories and the 3 45's from that record as
well...

.htmlThis week's lesson is now available. Thanks to all who contributed.
You can view the lesson by clicking the banner on the Yahoo home page
or directly via this link:
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/LFTL.htm
Also, we have a winner for the Group Birthday contest. And the
winner is (drumroll please) Dave Ballard. Dave was the only person
to answer all 15 questions correctly. Gentleman as he is, Dave has
declined the prize as he already owns copies of the DVDs.
So the DVD prize package goes to the first runner-up and that is
(another drumroll) Elaine. Elaine got 13 of the 15 questions
correct. Congratulations Elaine. I'll contact you privately for your
mailing address.
The correct questions and answers are as follows:
1: Group owner Dave Pasco is also known by this name.
Caesar
2: He's the Group's resident artist, illustrating many of
the "Lessons from the Lawgiver".
Glen or HotScheetz
3: She is a big fan of James Naughton and runs her own POTA website.
Kassidy Rae
4: He grew up in New York but now lives in Florida and loves to play
around with Matte shots.
Rory or Haristas
5: He is a personal friend of Natalie Trundy's.
Jeff or Veetus
6: She is the group's honorary Mom and lives in Vermont.
Helen or Ape Mom.
7: He is the writer of 'Beware the Beast'.
Dave 'the great' Ballard
8: His folders in the Photos and Files sections contain his
wallpaper and T-Shirt designs.
Mark or rkid67
9: She is a fan fiction writer and wrote many of the 'Lessons from
the Lawgiver'.
Elaine
10: He is the publisher of SIMIAN SCROLLS.
John 'the equally great with Dave Ballard' Roache
11: She owns the Friends and Fugitives group.
Mez or Mezzers or Mama Mez
12: He has a great POTA Archives site.
Hunter Goatley
13: He scans British POTA comics for that site.
Greg P.
14: He is most famous for his "Mothership Theory".
Patrick Tilton
15: He lives in Texas and is a big Kim Hunter fan?

.htmlVery true, Neil's style is the most realistic I've ever seen. He really
has captured the look and feel of the original POTA and its characters.
While the art for the new comic is very good, it is a bit cartoony, if
you know what I mean.
Maybe we should get MR to hire Neil for their next POTA mini-series.

| Subject: Save the Sideshow Ape Line List |
.htmlI have been getting a few emails on what this list is about. IRONMAN
is making a list to send to Sideshow in order to help to continue
their Ape line as well as try to give us fans a "voice" as to what
figures are made and what we wouldlike to see. He is wanting to
compile a list of names of POTA fans and what figures they would
like to see made and send it in letter from to Sideshow. I emailed
him and asked if I could give his email and he said sure, to spread
the word but to put SAVE THE APES in your heading so his Spam
Blocker does not block it out.
His email is Ironman1188@...
Lets all jump in on this and hopefully we can get Sideshow to not
only continue with the Ape line but make figures that may not have a
chance to be made other wise.
I sent them a copy of the letter I have posted in the files section
and they reassured me that the Apes are not discontinued but none
are in production at the moment. They went on to say to encourage
all POTA fans to continue to let them know what they would like to
see as far as the Ape line goes. They said the only way they know
the fans wants is buy them letting Sideshow know

We could all learn a lesson from Team Banzai. We've discussed
doing Con Promotion, but they actually did it. They got a
table,
played the soundtrack and the movie, and had Banzai Institute
pens, Team Banzai patches, and My Other Car Is A Jet Car
bumper stickers. And the got a good response. And that's
just a book, one movie and a couple of comics. With all
the comics, books, movies and TV shows POTA has
they certainly couldn't do any worse. Think about it.

.htmlI do have the LP with the 4 TV stories as well as the LP with the movie stories. I only have one of the 45s (Mountain of the Delphi). I did scan the LPs a while back and planned to work up CD booklet-sized versions that could be printed, along with disc labels that look like the labels on the LPs. I may have to get back to that project.
If anyone here has the other two 45s and can provide hi-res color scans (300dpi) that would be a big help.

.html A monkey, apparently a pet, escaped, then chased a 12-year-old boy into his house and bit
him on the buttocks in the western Malaysian state of Pahang, a news report said Friday.
The monkey, which was believed to be a pet animal because there was a chain around its
neck, ran up and down the street in the housing area in Kuantan town as it appeared just
after dusk Wednesday, scaring people into their homes, the Bernama news agency reported. <.html

I would like to see them make the remaining 3 Mutants that Brent faced

bought my Ursus off of on Ebay said that their Sideshow rep said the
Mutants were selling the worst of all in the Ape line.

glad they changed Caesar from the Cornelius sculpt)...But the Taylor
(s), Nova and Brent(s) don't look so good...And the mutants look the
worse...I know their "faces" were masks, but the sculpts should look
more realistic...

Probably due to the Helmet.
You have to be able to put a helmet on him.
Maybe they were trying to use the same

.html Thanks for your response. I saw the original prototype at Toy Fair and his head matched the same proportion as the other figures and was definately a better sculpt. This is definately a factory oversight. I was also very unhappy with the Forbidden Zone Taylor ans Astronaut Taylor likenesses, they also were not as good as the original prototypes. I even supplied Sideshow with some photographic referance for the Ceaser figure's pamphlet and face. They had nothing from Fox and were not granted likeness rights by Franciscus' estate. That's why his figure looks so bad. <.html

Yes, Ursus' head was done like that to accomodate the helmet. In fact,
if you remove Sideshow's helmet, you'll find the head is not a complete
head. The leather draping is also too short. I switched mine out with
the Hasbro Ursus helmet and it actually looks better. As for the
Franciscus rights...well, not getting the likeness rights was their
final reason. Originally they stated to me that they tried but the
sculpt fell short and had been approved by the licensor anyway and sent
to production. Thats why they could not improve it for the final
version. Switching stories doesn't instill much faith in their word,
but that's another story. <.html

.htmlWow. I'm so jealous.
What do some of you guys do for a living?
Those Sideshow figures aren't cheap.
I was barely able to afford the 8 ones that I do have, all regular
versions:
-Cornelius
-Zira
-Zaius
-Gorilla
-Astro Taylor
-Slave Taylor
-Nova
-Ursus
-Caeser
I'm planning on getting the Mendez figure (if the final version
looks good). I don't live to far from Amok Time toys, so I can pick
it up in person and decide if I want it or not.
That convienence saved me having to return a Brent.(shudder)
I'm hoping to pick up some more Gorilla soldiers -cheaply if I can.
I'm not holding my breathe waiting for Sideshow to produce more, so
I'm hoping to "kitbash" a Julius and a Conquest Gorilla.

But that's not all! This issue also includes part 2 of the stunning City of Nomads story, a letter column and an important note from the organizers of the James Naughton and Ron Harper fan clubs.

made it a legend. It would continue it after Beneath, Zira,
Cornelius and Milo only thought the world was destroyed. It could
take place decades after Taylor/Nova later, the radiation has
abated and Two Races, One Mutant Human and one Ape survive.
They come out and try to lay claim to the 'New' world. Although,
the great actors involved , unfortunately are mostly gone, or to

.html Oh, man... I've never posted here before, but I have to share this
with you good people. If it seems off-topic, bear with me.
I just finished watching Blue Underground's release of Tombs of the
Blind Dead. Included as an extra is information on the following:
At some point, this movie about blind undead Knights Templar was
actually released in the U.S. under the title "Revenge from Planet
Ape" -- an unofficial entry into the Planet of the Apes saga! As an
attempt to cash in on PotA's popularity (I believe that at least
Planet, Beneath, and Escape had already come out, maybe others),
sleazy American distributors added a prologue to explain the
connection,* and made heavy cuts to preserve the illusion. So these
Knights Templar were turned into... yes, ZOMBIE APES.
And you know what? If you look at them right, they almost do look John
Chambers-style simian. The beards, the long faces, the flattened noses
and prominent brows... and independently, I'd already been reminded of
the gorilla soldiers by the attack-on-horseback scenes.
If this little bizarrity is common knowledge -- well, I'd never heard
it. It's so absurd, I was completely thrown for a loop.
* My summary of the prologue summary: Civilized apes who'd been
blinded by humans after an interspecies war 3000 years ago rise from
the grave in the swingin' '70s to take revenge on humans. <.html

At some point, this movie about blind undead Knights Templar was actually released in the U.S. under the title "Revenge from Planet Ape" -- an unofficial entry into the Planet of the Apes saga! As an attempt to cash in on PotA's popularity (I believe that at least Planet, Beneath, and Escape had already come out, maybe others), sleazy American distributors added a prologue to explain the connection,* and made heavy cuts to preserve the illusion. So these Knights Templar were turned into... yes, ZOMBIE APES.
And you know what? If you look at them right, they almost do look
John Chambers-style simian. The beards, the long faces, the flattened noses and prominent brows... and independently, I'd already been reminded of the gorilla soldiers by the attack-on-horseback scenes.
If this little bizarrity is common knowledge -- well, I'd never heard it. It's so absurd, I was completely thrown for a loop.
* My summary of the prologue summary: Civilized apes who'd been blinded by humans after an interspecies war 3000 years ago rise from the grave in the swingin' '70s to take revenge on humans.

Here it is, the fabulous finale of City of Nomads, in issue 49 of the Marvel UK Planet of the Apes mag. In addition to the titanic 10 pages of comics, the color cover, and the nearly weekly letter column you get a special one-page sneak peek at theFacinating feature starting next week: Marvel's amazing adaptation of Escape From the Planet of the Apes!

the truly innovative comic strips. This saga was one of the late artist

Yeah, it was a tough call for folks on the coast.
Leave early, although it may miss completely?
Leave with everyone else and get stuck in traffic.
Leave too late and you may not find any gas.
Though really a quarter tank would get you
to high ground there may not be any
accommodations available close in.

.html Folks,
just curious how many of you may have ordered the set of POA cartoons from
"the guy in Canada" in the past, and how long it has taken.
I placed an order Aug. 3, and have received nothing so far.
It's not so much the wait, but communication has been sparse. A few "I've
been busy," "remind me later this week," "sorry, haven't been home" type
emails, which are fine ...
... and i understand we're all busy, he's doing us a favor, etc., etc., but
when it's closing in on two months ...
I also paid the extra for 'brand-name' (TDK, Sony, etc) DVD-rs and i'm
wondering if they actually do come on such DVDs.
Yeah, it's only $10 gambled, but i'm just curious. I also realize mail from
canada to the US can be problematic and can take forever.
Also not trying to start a flame war or incite a riot, which is why i've not
used a name ... I'm just looking for information, that's all.
thanks in advance. back to regular programming ...

.html Yes,I agree that nowhere in the series does it actually point out how
the war happened or who was responsible. It merely HINTS at the
possiblity that man as a RACE was responsible. The apes moved in on the
scene when their former masters were still dragging themselves out of
the rubble, and took control. The chance for dominance was there and they
took it.However there is also the possiblity that in one draft of the
scripts the war happenedas an outgrowth of the oppressive governments'
attempt to stem ape uprisings by actually nuking cities where the apes
had succeeded in overthrowing the human population;sort of as examples
of retribution for rebellion.Whatever the reason,it started a basic
chain reaction of events leading to the deterioration of Earth's
ecosphere and the future conditions on the Planet of the Apes. <.html

.html you know ,i am somewhat disposed toward thinking that Taylor was
mocking the good Doctor's faith.Taylor was in the courtroom when the
religious quote from the Lawgiver was spoken;
''And Proteus brought the upright Beast into the Garden, and chained him
to a tree, and the children did make sport of him.''
I DO think Taylor was using a bit of sarcastic irony there, driving home
some reverse bigotry with tying Zaius up to a tree stump,Zaius being in
Taylor's opinion an ''upright Beast''. <.html

What I like about the first movie is that nothing is explained, you're simply left with much to think about. When the sequels tried to show just how it all started, things got kind of silly.

The first issue of the new comic from Mr. Comics will appear in the new issue of Previews that goes on sale in the U.S. next week. According to the order form that's on-line at Diamond's site, it appears on page 300. Here's a link to the new issue of Previews. It has Mickey Mouse on the front cover and Sub-Mariner on the back cover. When you go to your local shop next Wednesday they should have the new Previews and you should be able to ask the shop to order the new comic for you. Orders to Diamond are due by October 15 according to the order form, so don't wait too long or the shop might not be able to order it for you.
If you're outside the U.S. you'll have to ask at your shop to see if they order from Diamond or some other distributor.
If you don't have a shop near you, there are companies that sell new comics on-line. As soon as I see the new comic listed on one of these sites I'll post the info.

that weather patterns on POTA are much different than on present -day
Earth, and that a vapor canopy or electrical type of storm system with
no rain are entirely possible.Because if there were no rain there would
be no Ape city,no corn fields,no jungles ,waterfall, oceans

to be the moon behind clouds at night,it just probably looks weird due
to some element of the clouds themselves;i.e. light refraction, the

That is one of the fascinating elements of the original movie. Taylor is negative and cynical about the human race. He ends up having to defend mankind. Elaine

True, and the embodiment of all those BETTER human qualities is Zira.
She's a truth seeker, trusting, protective, generous and self-sacrificing
to a fault. Interestingly, her nemesis, Dr. Zaius, is the
personification
of all the worst qualities, and the most HUMAN of the apes. And
in
the end brings he about the destruction he fears by pushing Taylor
over the edge with his lack of humanity. He's the Apes
Hasslein.
Both of them are suspicious, conniving and petty. And in trying
to circumvent the future, they themselves actually bring it about.

.html I don't remember Taylor as an 'ass'. I remember him as a good guy.He is
disappointed at Man's failures and hopes there is something better in
Creation than Man, but at no time does he ever exclude himself from his
definition of Man.On the contrary, whilst in the cage with Nova he
reflects upon his own very human weaknesses. Taylor may be a realist
and he may at times be remote, but at no time, in my humble opinion, is
he an ass.John, Scrolls. <.html

A vain, self-important, silly, or aggressively stupid person.
Seems to me he qualifies on some level. (Maybe it was his tone of
voice.)

.htmlHe came accross as a little arogant, but remember the time he was suposed to
be the great explorer and I thought this was set up well in the prologue of
the film anyway.

He's an Anti-Ass.
He calls everybody on their sh*t.
You might think he was one.
Except Landon confirms his
reading of him as the Golden
Boy. So if anything Landon
is the ass. But he comes off
as sincere. But I think we all
know someone like that. But
Taylor just tells is like it is --
the unvarnished truth. And
he come off like an ass.

These days comics celebrate 50th issues by going double-sized. For their 50th issue, the folks at Marvel UK proved they were ahead of their time, not by giving you a double-sized issue or a double-length dose of Apes comics. No, this issue contains a double-sized, two-page letter column. So they were ahead of their time, but a little wide of the mark.
This issue also contains the first installment of the adaptation of Escape From the Planet of the Apes. This segment features a sequence that was scripted and filmed, but not included in the final film.

I wouldn't call Taylor an "ass" either. In his situation he does much reflection on himself and his circumstances. He is intelligent and despite his cynicalism in the beginning towards humankind, his character grows and develops in the movie(something rare in current movies). He also appreciates those who helped him(Zira and Cornelius). Elaine
