I'm so bummed.  I followed the comic shop locator link on the
Diamond Comic link and found a comic shop in Keene -- only 50

But... the place doesn't exist!  Whaa, whaa, whaaa!

So... back to mailorder?

Do you have a bookstore near you? They might order the comic. Elaine

Not only are some comics blogs talking about it
(http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/rage/112827989852421.htm &
http://spiltink.dreamhost.com/blogs/2005/09/hey-kids-comics-news-for-

month (http://previews.diamondcomics.com/default.asp?
t=1&m=1&c=6&s=221&ai=22139). Looks like this is finally the comic
that some of us have been waiting for for 30 years.

Good question. Anyone know what the price of the comic is? Elaine

It's really Apes! It's just this sort of twist that I enjoy seeing
them play with a bit. I really hope that they stick to this more
intellectual sort of comic. It ape-ears to be a fun story without a
lot of nonsensical clutter. Great artwork, too!

Shhh. Not here. We're wet, and I'm tired of the rain, but we're
good. Even our driveway is holding up! Alstead is just about 25
minutes away, though, and they got really bad flooding, houses swept
away, two people missing, 6 have died. Unheard of around here.

My Westfield catalog lists the retail price as $3.98. A little steep for a comic these days, but understandable given that they're a small company and it's a licensed property. IDW charges the same for their CSI comics.

    Just a question:

Have you JUST 2 pics portraying the revolt of the APES at the of
CONQUEST? I need just two pics of the apes, full shot... I would
    appreciate that a lot! :)

I'm still working on my groups site, APECALYPSE NOW, poorly received

    REWIND:

    My fellow Ape-o-nauts,

Don't misunderstood my intentions, no real need to make some sort of empty self-promotion, I've basically created a place to fully expose my weird ideas and - most of all- to cover all the aspects I consider as 'interesting' when coming to the marvellous POTA SAGA.

Don't wanna stretch things anymore, oookay judge for yourself:

I'm confident you'll show up to give your 2 cents, this is my humble
tribute to the first and greatest movie saga of all the times, don't get me wrong. It's a FUNNY parallel dimension to this same GREAT community I enjoy day by day, or every other POTA community out of there. I wanna underline the term "FUNNY" = UNUSUAL.

I would like to ESTABILISH a 'community' where it's *just* required to expose the weirdest and most 'poethic' ideas/theories about the saga...  Whatever is in your mind about these issues...

    Thanks in advance,

OK, yesterday (that's two Beatles song titles already) I preordered the new POTA comic "Revolution on the POTA". The order deadline was Oct. 15 but my local shop hadn't sent their orders for Oct. in yet, so there's still time. They also said they'd "evaluate" the title for ordering more copies. So it definitely doesn't hurt to rattle some chains at comic shops.
I can't believe it's been 15 years since the Adventure comics series. Obviously that wasn't a complete artistic success but it was the first step in bringing back the Apes. A re-imagination, a 30th anniversary, etc. later it feels like coming full circle.  - - - Jeff

Since their are advocates of both the circular and the dual timeline

That's a good question, James. I think the twist does imply a
circular timeline. I rather ascribe to that ape-proach, myself. I
would buy a truly Classic Apes comic with a different angle, but it
isn't likely that I would enjoy it as much!! ;)

And when you get to brains in jars, or whatever that was, I become a
    bit less interested, still.

    James,

No way, this film is astonishing. I found the Gorillas make-up
pretty 'bleak' and 'scary'. It's not a secret, I consider "CONQUEST
FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES" a terrific dystopian movie. I love the
way they portray the Apes here. Paul Dehn did a great job, if you
ask me. CAESAR is one of the most captivating characters of all the
times, after TAYLOR he's the second hero of the saga.

The pics are also great. Thank you very much. Your devotion for POTA
is what keeps this great community alive and well.

I'm glad to be here. This is the greatest cinematic saga of all the
times, forget the SW rubbish. There's no such series of the movies
like POTA, each one different from the others. 5 unique and
outstanding masterpieces which paved the way to EVERYTHING came
    AFTER.

    That's a definite, yes!

It's not so much ideas that would give me a problem but rather how they are presented.
That's where the skill of the writers come in. If they are good they can make the
unacceptable believable... At least for the duration of the story.

Very true, although the new comic makes a big mistake by placing
Conquest in San Diego, it won't diminish my enjoyment if it is a good
    story.

You have a point, POTA fans are still a very small group when compared
    to SF fans overall.

We start year two of the Marvel UK project with a blockbuster of an issue. Not only do you get a 10-page chapter of the continuing adaptation of Escape From the Planet of the Apes and the usual letter column, you also get a 10-page interview with Bill Blake and Paula Crist, who dressed up as Cornelius and Zira (respectively) for public appearances. It's been a while since we've had an article, let alone one this long. In fact, this is only part 1, with the conclusion appearing next week.

    Hey!

I was just thinking to the JOHN Brent character (or was he
named 'Ronald'? ehehehee). Well, I don't know why or how, but I always
felt a special affinity with him! He's more 'naive' and innocent than
Taylor, surely he's even lighter and more lucid. My only complaint is
that "BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES" didn't give him more screen
time. I think Franciscus did a magnificent job in creating a very
    heroic and sympathetic character.

It's a shame Brent went down in the POTA cult fandom history as an
    overlooked or underrated figure.

    That's all!

Actually, Conquest & Battle take place on the East Coast not on the

Perhaps, but in that case there's no guarantee that the dead city in Battle is NYC. There's no local landmarks, which they made an effort to reproduce in Beneath (i.e. the ruins of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Radio City Music Hall, the New York City Library, or the subway). The dead city is really just a generic radioactive ruin that could be any large city USA.

Also, the parts of the city shown in Conquest have a stark modernism to them, and the NYC in Beneath is more or less the 20th century version that a 1970's audience would be familiar with, a few tunnels aside.

Re the comment about how the Apes would know about "what was once" London and New York: it's LT two decades after the nuclear war (depending on what sequence of events you believe). Caesar and the rest of the older adult generation experienced the events of Conquest first hand, and Caesar in particular had knowledge of modern technology and civilization from Armando, so it's likely they'd be aware of some of the larger human cities. They also lived with human survivors that would know about them as well. As for Virgil, for all we know he was an assistant to a scientist, or learned as much from humans as he could after the Night of the Fires.

Basically Cornelius and Zira crashed on California, and
their "presence" in 1973 altered Space/Time continuum forever.
I think James must be right on this issue, but even if CAESAR took
over a smaller city on the WEST COAST, well, that doesn't change the
intimacy of the things, that PAST was altered and History flew down
    in a different way.

We see more about the WEST COAST in 3085 A.C. (the TV SERIES),
while Taylor and Brent's "Planet Of The Apes" is located in the East
    Coast (3978/9 A.C.).

I never said it was NYC just that it was on the East Coast since both Dehn & Corrington established that Caesar's City was the same Ape City in the first two films.

Well this is something that I've often disputed since there is not one line of dialouge in the films that directly supports it. However, it is an interesting and creative theory to explain many the errors and mistakes. But it is not the only theory to explain them so I look at it as dispassionately as a possibility, not hysterically as a fact.

True is does look very West Coast because it is on the West Coast. The same is true for some with the ending of Planet. (We all know it's supposed to be the East Coast but it looks a lot like Malibu.)

But the Century City complex has been used to represent other cities as well. On an episode of the old Mary Tyler Moore show it doubled for Minneapolis. And there are modern parts of many cities that look very similar from lower Manhattan to the east end of London. For me the fact that everyone is wearing black turtlenecks, heavy corduroy or leather makes it seem very East Coast.

I can still remember watching the first film way back when and not
having any preconceived notion of where it was filmed. I saw the

IMHO, people presume that COTPOTA and BFTPOTA were on the west coast
because of both EFTPOTA AND the TV series...
Also, IMHO, it is established that the bamboo Ape City of BFTPOTA is

MAYBE I would even like to think BATTLE's "Ape City" is somewhat the
prototype of the one we see in PLANET and BENEATH - on the other
hand, evidence suggests the opposite. Let's skip the CIRCULAR/DOUBLE
Timeline issue for a moment. In BATTLE the city doesn't resemble NEW
YORK at all. Where's the damn STATUE, for instance? It's clearly a
relatively small city, not a metropolis. Then, it seems implied in
CONQUEST that the city the Apes has taken over in the end CAN'T
POSSIBLY BE that much big - the Apes weren't a legion and to make
the whole thing work you MUST think that.

Maybe Caesar's Ape City is located FAR BELOW the former New York and
the PLACE where PLANET/BENEATH Ape City will/would rise (same
    timeline here?)... it's obvious.
Or maybe Caesar's Ape City is really located on the West Coast...
But that doesn't really explain why on Earth the Mutants's ancestors
    are there!

The TV SERIES doesn't necessarely belong.
Is in the TV SERIES explicity stated it is the WEST Coast?

Breck's city in Conquest (the destroyed city in Battle) is not
necessarily New York. There is nothing presented to say it is or it
isn't particularly in Conquest. And the little bits of it seen in
Conquest can resemble more modern sections of almost any city.
However, in Battle it is clear that if it is not New York it is
someplace close by. The mutants are meant to be the ancestors of the
mutants seen in Beneath. And the Ape City seen in Battle is meant to
be the Ape City seen in Planet & Beneath. But there is no evidence
presented to suggest it is LA or any where on the West Coast. That
is an assumuption made because Escape took place on the West Coast.
(Like Armando couldn't travel from the West to the East Coast over
    the space of 18 years.)

IMHO, I figure that "Breck's" city is a suburb of New York...It
probably would have decayed and been reclaimed by the encroaching
desert by the time of POTA and BTPOTA...

Since it is somewhat clear, to me at least, that the tunnels in
BTPOTA are more extensive than those in COTPOTA, I would surmise that
the mutants eventually move the AO Bomb from the area of Ape
Management (BFTPOTA) to Saint Patrick's Cathedral by BTPOTA, as they
expand their tunnel-system and underground city...

Largely because of the "Marvel" timeline, people tend to put the POTA
TV series between the end of BFTPOTA and the beginning of
POTA...Again, since EFTPOTA took place on the west coast, and the TV
series took place on the west coast, people assume COTPOTA and
BFTPOTA also took place on the west coast...Further, the "Marvel"
timeline puts those events on the west coast as well, having the
mutants migrate over to the east coast (though why is never clear)...

If the city was really submitted to a graduating decay such powerful
and ended up as being a desert (see PLANET and BENEATH), instead of
being INSTANTLY WIPED-OUT by the bombings as I think or suppose, why
did the UNDERGROUND structures we see in BENEATH somewhat survive?

I think there was *NO* decay, NEW YORK was wiped-out, totally
destroyed, except for the underground structures which managed to
    fall even deeper.

So the city we see in CONQUEST/BATTLE is a 'suburban city' or a
satellite which went bombet-out only marginally with lesser powerful
    H-Bombs.

Is there any factual evidence the TV Series (which belongs to
Taylor's timeline, not Caesar's one) is really placed in the West
    Coast?

Just about everything in it... They go into the ruins of California cities (San Francisco, Oakland)... They face a west coast disaster (earthquakes). The wallmap in Urko's office shows the outline of the west coast of the United States. They mention west coast places in their dialog (San Francisco, Pismo Beach, Malibu.), etc.

One aspect of this "is Breck's city NY?" question should be addressed.
Mainly, the capital of New York State is Albany. If Breck were the
Govener of NY, then the city that his HQ would be in, would be Albany.

Now, I've never been to Albany, so I don't know how if the Conquest
city could pass for a "future" (1980's) Albany.

Another interesting aspect to this discussion is that a drawing of a
future NYC appears in the Pilot episode of the TV show, and that image
doesn't resemble the NYC I know. I think that actuallly more closely
resembles the Conquest city. I wonder if that were intentional.

Good point except that NY Governors keep a full time office in NYC and
spend about half their time in the city. More even when the legislature
is not in session. When Mario Cuomo was Governor he was often critized
for spending so much time in NYC rather than in Albany.
Plus it a universe where Apes talk, interstellar and time travel is
possible maybe NYC is the capitol of New York. LOL

    Hi John,

I was asleep when you asked your question, didn't see it until this morning (UK time). I'm
glad you like the covers enough to want to print some off - that's what they're intended
    for.

    The bleary-eyed, where's-my-coffee? Mr. Ballard

    .html.htmlHello Everyone,

I am in a remote location in North Carolina having fled the Forbidden Zone that is currently South Florida.  I left the day after the storm.  There was no power or water and the destruction is such that it may be a couple weeks before things are back to normal.  It's only been four days.  Why stay and suffer?  My APES collection survived fine and is save.  Meanwhile I'll just sit up here in the mountains and wait until the power is back on.

    See you all later.

If not for the occasional hurricane they'd never get out of their

and New York is safer than Dallas.  I was in Miami once.
I had a layover and I was in the airport.  I would like to
sail Key Largo like Humphrey Bogart in that movie . . .
Key Largo.  But I think I'll approach from the sea by boat.
Nice to hear you and your collection are safe though.
I know how it is.  I have a couple of pieces I really wish
I'd got Kim to sign.  But I figured it my car crashed and
burned on the way, at least these two would be safe.
You know how it is . . .

seriously great work though! Yeah I'm running off Copies to frame
ESPECIALLY the Cover w/ Ursus/Urko Close Up with the Sword that one
is Killer! are they hard to do? I saw somwhere where a Guy had gotten
the Old Box Art for the Aurora Monster Models Printed up as GIANT
Posters,I'm thinkin' this would be a great Idea for some of these Ape
Covers. Probly Expensive though. But hey thanks again and my best to
you all Across the Pond. BTW Dave, Is the old Show Tittled U.F.O
still popular in the UK? I loved that one Personally I think UFO had
THE BEST SNAPPIEST THEME SONG EVER! lol Well Good Night (It's 10:43
PM EST here in Conecticut) So Good Morning to you!

That may have been a misquote.
    The alternative lyrics are . . .

"I'm movin' to Florida, where all the sausages
dance like Ray Bolger on the hood of a car in traffic jam."
