.htmlThat's exactly my point. It is an extrapolation based on an
inconsistency (or mistake). Remove Cornelius' timeframe of centuries
and the name of the Ape who said 'No' and it is perfectly consistant
with what is presented in Conquest & Battle (as well as what was
established in Planet & Beneath, as well as Cornelius' earlier line in
Escape that Apes spoke English for 2000 years).
Now an alternate or dual timeline is one creative explanation for the
inconsistancies but it is only one. There are others that are just as
valid particularly since the audience never witnesses the events as
Cornelius stated them, hence they are hearsay at best.

One explaination for the inconsistancy is an alternate timeline. The scenario you state above can be another equally valid explaination. Another could be that the Apes history records were just not very accurate.

.htmlBut that's not a direct statement. As I stated in another post, it is an extrapolation based on an inconsistancy. And since the audience never sees the events Cornelius related first hand, there is no way to judge how accurate it was. Now compare that with direct statements like this: Milo in Escape: "And Earth will be destroyed just as we saw it".
The Lawgiver in Battle: "And God sent the world a savior miraculously born of two Apes who had decended on Earth from Earth's own future".
MacDonald in Battle: "There are tapes, sealed tapes of Cornelius & Zira being examined by officials of the American government...And I know they concern Earth's future, from which your parents came". Caesar in Battle: "I went looking for my past but I found our future". Now anything a character says is put into his mouth by the writer, so it is clear to see the writer's intent. The same is true of a character's motivation. Both Hasslein and Breck are motivated by the belief that Milo/Caesar's existance is the catalyst that will cause the rise of Apes & downfall of man. And both believe that by killing Milo/Caesar removes the threat to mankind and in effect changes lanes from the future that C&Z came from.

I don't mind being personally attacked at all.
That simply shows that the other person has
run out of ideas. And that they are no longer

My apologies. Sometimes I'm little bit too much passionate when
coming to the POTA saga - which I love immensely, it's everything to
me. Caesar teached us tolerance, and I was going against this
concept. So, my excuse. Really.
On the ther hand, I think to have made PLAUSIBLE conjectures based
on MANY evidences in the saga. It's not like I was 'making up'
Lisa's life or saying that MacDonald turned into an ape. No fantasy.
I'm recostructing a PLAUSIBLE theory and you can read it on my

Patrick's theories are also stored and 'adjusted' the best way

They talk about 'Earth's future' because it's much more simplicistic

Yes he does. Go here to see the scene: http://tinyurl.com/cgyv9 .
I'll also note that earlier in the film, Cornelius says that English
was the language of the apes for nearly 2000 years which is
inconsistant with the timeframe he states in this scene. <.html

I have to disagree on your
theory. Not trying to be rude. But how could this be a circular timeline. If
Cornelius, Zira and Milo did not come back from the future to the present
earth, Taylor still would have destroyed the earth and the timeline would
have ended there. But I think that the timeline was more like a something you
see at a railroad junction, you have many tracks all leading to a particular
point.
You made several good
points by using comments from Milo, MacDonald and Ceasar, but you also have to
look at what Dr. Hasselein said.
Hasselein said" that time is like a freeway with an infinite number of
lanes--all leading from the past into the future. But not into the
same future. A driver in lane "A" may crash, while a driver in
Lane "B" survive".
Another reason I think that
this is not a circular timeline is that when Ceasar, Virgil and
MacDonald saw the tape of the interrogation Ceasar said that "I know what
it is that I want to change." but before Ceasar said that comment Virgil
said that " By changing lanes, can change his future."
And remember. At the end of Battle, The Lawgiver said that they were
waiting for the arrival of Taylor because my theory is that Zira and Cornelius
are now part of the Sacred Scrolls.
To me this prove that this is not a circular timeline but a timeline with
many lanes.

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe if C&Z had not gone back in time Taylor may have wound up on a far different Earth of the future. Just like in 'The Terminator' if John Connor had not sent Kyle Reese back in time to become his father, he never would have been born to send Reese back in time. >But I think that the timeline was > more like a something you see at a railroad junction, you have many tracks all > leading to a particular point. > Interesting theory. > You made several good points by using comments from Milo, MacDonald > and Ceasar, but you also have to look at what Dr. Hasselein said. > > Hasselein said" that time is like a freeway with an infinite number of > lanes--all leading from the past into the future. Right but he never says that they come from multiple pasts. So there are different possiblities for the future but they all come from the same past. And Hasslein is convinced that the world is in the lane for the future C&Z come from and that by killing them will in effect change lanes. Thus, Hasslein believes that C&Z's presence in the past (& present) is the catalyst that will lead to the future they come from. > > Another reason I think that this is not a circular timeline is that > when Ceasar, Virgil and MacDonald saw the tape of the interrogation Ceasar > said that "I know what it is that I want to change." but before Ceasar said > that comment Virgil said that " By changing lanes, can change his future." >
Again they are saying there are multiple futures but not multiple pasts. And again they believe they are already in the lane to the future C&Z came from and that they need to make a change to avoid that future. > And remember. At the end of Battle, The Lawgiver said that they were waiting > for the arrival of Taylor because my theory is that Zira and Cornelius are > now part of the Sacred Scrolls.
The Lawgiver never says anything about Taylor in Battle. > > To me this prove that this is not a circular timeline but a timeline with > many lanes. >
I agree with you about it being a timeline with many lanes but if a second timeline was created it was due to Caesar's actions in Battle, not by C&Z's arrival in Escape. Battle is the fork in the road. If man & ape can continue to live together in peace, then the future is safe. If not, they will end up destroying each other and the world.

Wasn't "Bicentennial Man" directed by Chris Columbus? He was among those
in line to do POTA but got rich directing the first two Harry Potters

think his POTA would've even been worse than Burton's, a bad bad movie
instead of a good bad movie, if that makes any sense. At least Burton has

Sorry, Jeff. No clue who directed it. Definitely not a fast moving
movie. I think as far as movies go, it was more of a story with
pictures than a pop-up book. POTA 2001 was definitely a pop-up book!

I'm re-touching my Timeline. Can you report me the EXACT quotes of the
Lawgiver in BATTLE when explaining Caesar's 'escape' from the city?
I'm wondering how much time Caesar and the Apes spent in the city
before moving themselves out of it in order to create a safer 'Ape
City' far from the war.
If CONQUEST is set in 1991, the war begins in 1992, maybe they moved
in 1994 and started to built 'Ape City'.
Since Mandemus has been the keeper of the weaponry for 27 years, then
1994+ 27 = 2031.
I need the quotes in order to 'grasp' the shades... :)

Without a doubt! Here we are in the spaceship. That was the

One of the things about the original was it's pacing. Someone
asked
Schaffner why he spent so long on the astronauts wandering the
desert.
His answer was because it sets the tone for the whole film. He
sure
got that right. It makes the film, a film, and less of a theme park
ride.
Though admittedly, if I'm pressed for time it's the part I skip

It seems that most movies today could be described as a theme park ride with so much emphasis on special effects. Elaine

It can't be, in fact as soon as Taylor's ship with the apes in it appears in orbit around 1973 earth that's a change in the past of the apes from 3978, and a change in everything that will come afterward. And not only that, but 2000 years after the events of ESCAPE Taylor's ship WILL NOT chrash land on the planet of the apes. Why? Because it already returned to earth in 1973! There can't be two of something in a singular timeline.

Lack of character development is the major flaw with pota 2001 and is typical of many
movies today. The movies introduce interesting characters but never develop them. I saw a
movie called the Chronicles Of Riddick in which there were many interesting characters
but the movie was all about special effects, no character development. Elaine

Last night on Jay Leno they showed a clip of Kong fighting three T-Rexs out to make a little snack of Ann Darrow. It was pretty good, but what I don't like about this Kong is that he isn't as awesome a beast that the original was. He's just a big gorilla, and Ann Darrow this time looks at him like he's a lovable pet dog. More like a remake of the '76 version than the original.

Since we haven't seen it yet, who knows, but I think Ann's feelings
for him change into that. I suppose that aspect of it is more like
the '76 version than the '33 version, but I'm OK with that. (I'm a

lonely Kong is. Jack Black says the difference between the '76 Kong and this
one is that the '76 Kong was horny and wishes he could miniturize and get
Jessica Lange in the sack, while this one is afraid of and intrigued by
Naomi Watts. His species has died out and he's been alone in a violent world
for a long time (he's old). It's like a "first date" Kong. - - - Jeff

It's a short installment this week. No letter column or other extras, just 10 more pages of the Escape adaptation and the cover.
Now you can use the extra bandwith you'll save on downloading this week's issue on some cyber-shopping for Christmas presents.

Is it because you owned the Topps 44-card Planet Of The Apes Card Set,

I didn't see who else mentioned it, but YES! that's the reason 44 remains my favorite number. Back in '68 there was no DVDs or video cassettes, and PLANET would come to TV until 1973! Once it was gone from theatres it was gone! I used to look at those 44 POTA cards every day back then. It was the only way to relive the movie!

Rory,
I was about seven years old when the cards came out and we traded
them in the schoolyard in "flips" if anyone remembers that. I still have the
card set I got then the edges are kind of rounded but the memories remain.

I was eight and I too first saw them in the school yard. I was in third grade. I remember the first card I saw was the second one with the picture of the sinking ship. No you had to each hold the card on the shortest 2 sides with your
thumb and pointing finger and gently flip the card on the ground. Whichever card
had the highest # won the flip.
