YOU are quoting Battle? I know I'm beating a dead horse, but you have
to admit, as a kid, that was a great movie moment.

All jokes aside, I think the Sideshow line has been excellent.Part of
the problem might have been that the photos just don't do these figures
justice. The Slave Taylor and Nova looks crap in the photos, but is
beautiful in realty.Apart from the Lawgiver and 'The Enforcer'(HUH?),
I'm only missing one of the Mutants.Thease things are addictive once
    you buy one! John, Scrolls.

I got a couple of autographs from Natalie Trundy back in 1976 and 1981,
    Kim Hunter, Charlton Heston.

I recorded a lot of The 4:30 Movie Broadcasts. I also had one of those

the cord over the channel dial and then hand the mic in front of the

of the film was cut out. PLANET was always a two parter, but the rest

    >>Hi again, Chris.

No sir, I wasn't writing a paper or anything regarding time travel in the
series, but I was just curious about the third ship, where Milo came in
    the
story, and certain deleted scenes in BENEATH. This would have been
    either
    in 2003 or early 2004. <<

    Yep- I remember you now.

As far as all these behind the scenes photos from BENEATH are concerned,
they've actually been mentioned a couple times in the past. The first
time was back around 2000 when someone made a post to one of the groups
claiming to have been the set photographer on BENEATH. He was looking to
sell all the photos he had taken (around 1000), and claimed that it was a
"complete set" even though he said right in his post that a few had been
sold at conventions over the years. So naturally everyone responded with
"Well, it's not really a complete set then", and technically they were
right. The idea of a bulk purchase was revisited a few years later when
another collector had the set offered to him. No idea what happened here,
but if they were purchased I doubt we'd ever see them. This person is
notorious for hoarding what's in his collection and not sharing them with
other apes fans, but then at the same time will get bent out of shape
when he requests for others to contribute from their collection and no
one replies. "I can't believe the lack of response I got when I asked for
help with blah blah blah". Kind of ass backwards when you think about it.

Some of the photos that were posted I've seen before, but most of the
BENEATH ones I haven't. This is the kind of stuff I find especially
interesting to see- makeup artists doing touch ups on the mutant
congregation between takes, Victor Buono, Natalie Trundy, and Paul
Richards having breakfast (at least I'm presuming it's breakfast since
they aren't in costume). I remember Alex had a couple on his old site
before he took it down for the umpteenth time. One was Victor Buono
getting his makeup touched up between takes (it looked like his real face
as opposed to the mask), and another was a shot outside the Cathedral
where you could see the entire set- lights, scaffolding, and so forth.

If I ever could get in touch with the person who has those behind the
scenes BENEATH photos, I bet we could collectively contribute money and
purchase the set for the group and put them all in the files section.

cut out the commercials. Since there was only a 90 minute run time, a lot
of the film was cut out. PLANET was always a two parter, but the rest
were all shown in one go. They did show different edits each time
through, so after about three years I took all my tapes and edited them
all together so I'd have an audio tape of the complete film. After
viewing the movie on VHS later on, I found out that I got it perfect,
although I did "extend" the scene in the desert where the Lawgiver
appears. At the end where the gorillas shouts "Advance!!", I cut a cue of
the march music back in (the same music from the beginning of the scene
in fact, heard right after Brent say "The gorillas...are marching on your
city") and then went to "Stupid Animals! They don't have...". I was an
industrious little kid. I actually still have all the stuff I ever
recorded from TV. It'd be interesting to give all that a listen again.

I taped the Apes TV series also from CBS when they first aired. Cut out all the APE ads from the paper and taped them to each box. I wish I'd at least saved the boxes!

I do not remember theTwilight Zone one, but she did star in a deliciously funny episode of Night Gallery ,as an inpoverished (soon to be ) widow planning her husband's cheap funeral! Show me a star that wasn't on it.
It was the Love Boat of it's day.
    Even Roddy McDowall did one.
And he did a Love Boat.

What about the "Rockford Files" and "Baretta" as Crazy Annie which I
thought was one of her best perfomance.

Do you have the animated pilot for 'Wait Till Your Father Gets Home'?
It was originally shown on Love American Style. The episode was titled
"Love and the Old Fashioned Father".

Yep. It's been named that for along time according to this (from their website):

"Welcome to New York's Hotel Pennsylvania, The World's Most Popular Hotel®. As one of the five largest hotels in Manhattan, the property holds an impressive history and offers an excellent Midtown location directly opposite Madison Square Garden and Amtrak's Penn Station."

    History
Built in 1919 by the Pennsylvania Railroad, New York's Hotel Pennsylvania is one of New York City's largest hotels. Designed by the renowned firm of McKim, Mead and White, which also completed other landmark hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria.

Bounded on the west by Seventh Avenue and on the north and south by 33rd and 32nd Streets respectively, the building was erected on a site measuring 200 x 400 feet. It has 22 floors from street level to roof inclusive and three levels in the penthouse. On the ground floor there are direct entrances each from 32nd and 33rd Streets to the lobby and a special entrance on the 33rd Street side for the ballroom floor. The hotel is famous not only for its grandeur but also for its place in the world of entertainment.

    Pennsylvania 6-5000

The hotel's renowned Cafe Rouge Ballroom has played host to many of the Big Band Era's greats, including the Dorsey Brothers, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra - who forever immortalized the hotel and it's phone number in the 1940 hit "Pennsylvania 6-5000". New York's Hotel Pennsylvania has had the same phone number since 1919.

Did you get WABC Channel 7 out of NYC? If so, you were watching the same
broadcasts a lot of us were. As far as I remember though, the TV series
was only shown once in November of 1979. In fact, they didn't even use
the Made for TV Movie titles. They just ran it as a week long story arc
with Roddy as Galen hosting. That was the only time I saw the aged Galen
clips. When WPIX Channel 11 (also in NYC and the source for the RETURN
cartoons on DVD) ran the movies in the 80's and 90's, they didn't include
    the Galen footage.

I'm curious now to hear about the first time non NYC area pota group
members saw the TV Movies/aged Galen footage.

I'm very interested in attending a Planet of the Apes
convention/event to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the original
release (1968). I've never attended a convention or gathering before,
but I'd like too! The Lake Powell thing could be cool. However, it
might be more interesting to explore the old Fox ranch (with
someone's knowledge of where Ape City was) and Century city. I
suppose there must be other sites in California or Hollywood that
could of interest. Sounds like fun, Andrew

Has the Century City location changed that much? I haven't been there
in a while, but I stumbled upon the location as a studio runner in
1990's and immediately recognized it as the location for Conquest. I
also seem to remember, again this was in the early 90's, that the
Santa Monica Mountains (Malibu Park now?) information booth had a map
posted that marked the arena location for POTA.

No, they only mark the "Rock Pool" and "Century Lake" now...I have
scans of the map, if you want to see them...
We have a tram/bus map in the "Files" section that shows the relative
locations of Point Dume to Malibu Park...

      1. The Deception

        my favorite episodes are:

The one where they swim under fire and fight sharks! (ring of fire?)

and the one where the blind ape falls in love with Burke or was it Verdon?

hell, they are all good, but those two i watch the most. and the other one i watch most is when they build the hang glider.

I used to live in santa monica, just off of santa monica blvd,
between olympic and santa monica blvd right near sepulvada. i was 10
        minutes from the beach.

can you explain to me where exactly malibu beach was, i would be at
the beach alot of times or driving along the coast and think, wow,
that looks like where they filmed final scene with the statue of
liberty, but thought it was just coincidence, after all, most of the
cali coast line looks the same, you seen one jutting out mountain
into the ocean with cliffs, you've seen them all. thanks--- In

What would have happened to the Mutants Caesar refuses to kill at the

The episode where Virdon and Burke are swimming under fire and fighting sharks is named "Tomorrow's Tide".

The episode about the blind ape that falls in love with Burke, unaware that he is human was called "The Deception".

Fans loath "The Good Seeds?" I'm surprised -- I love that one. I also like "The Deception"
(my favorite of the series) and "The Legacy." In truth, I like most of them.

I might be the only one who did not care for the TV
series. I really did not like the cartoons. But I'll
try to watch them again and see if my opinion has
            changed.

Think of something that you might find beneath, i mean behind a churchdoor. In the Apes
            universe that is.

The reasons that I have read that good seeds isn't well received is
because its a "lessons" episode. In the episode the "smart" humans
educate the "uninformed" apes how to better conduct their daily
lives. Also, Burke makes reference to Abe Lincoln, and, when Remus
says he would like to meet him, Burke responds in southern slave
dialect "So would I massa, so would I" I guess that's considered to
            be in bad taste.

Interesting...yeah, I can see where the lesson aspect would be annoying. But I actually like
the Lincoln and "massa" exchange, because it's fitting. Non-PC? Sure. But, then, we're
talking about a story in which two people find themselves living as farm slaves to other
beings. The comparison is a natural one to make, I think. This whole PC world we've built
ourselves is very good at shunning anything controversial, which is how I see that line --
not offensive, but controversial. To each their own, I guess.

Malibu Beach is about ten miles west of Santa Monica -- but Malibu
Park, where Ape City and the swimming hole sequences were shot, is
maybe twenty miles inland...Point Dume, where Cornelius' digs and the
Statue of Liberty was, as well as the opening in ESCAPE, is about ten
            miles west of Malibu Beach...

            You're opening a can of worms here...=)

This is one of those debatible questions...The simplest answer is that
the mutants in BATTLE become the Mutants in BENEATH...There is a
surviving Mendez in BATTLE, and a Mendez XXV (or some Roman numeral) in
            BENEATH...

I wonder if "The Good Seeds" was filmed first. The Ape makeup seems
to be different. Urko doens't look the same; his hair is longer and
he wears his holster strap different. Any one else notice this?

Unfortunately I haven't purchased the issue yet (the local shop is having

            Close . It's XXVI.

If you subscribe to the circular theory, the mutants in BATTLE are the
ancestors of the mutants in BENEATH. However with the alternate timeline
theory, we don't know what happens to the mutants (or the bomb for that
matter because those stories haven't been told. Yet. :-)

This is one of those debatible questions...The simplest answer is that
the mutants in BATTLE become the Mutants in BENEATH...There is a
surviving Mendez in BATTLE, and a Mendez XXV (or some Roman numeral) in
            BENEATH... <<

Me neither. I got the DVD Box Set a few years back and I never did watch
them past a cursory glance to make sure the DVDs were OK. Off the top of
my head though I'd have to say 'The Trap', 'The Legacy', 'The Surgeon',
'The Interrogation', 'The Tyrant', and 'The Cure'. Of course I've just
listed almost half the series, but in all honesty there really isn't one
            that I don't like.

I like all of them, too. If I had to pick one I didn't like it would
probably be The Liberator, and that is only because the ape roles are
at bare minimum. Storywise I really liked it as well.

If you ever buy one, I'll personally make up a soundtrack from the series

The idea of combining the image of an ape with Che Guevara was part of
the American scheme in making opposing leaders in the world ugly.
Notice, Che Guevara was shot by CIA and Bolivian army before he was
granted a fair trial at the age of 39! Why buy the shit and endorse
the conspiracy blindly? Tarnishing the image of a hero only make us
            even more like apes.
