I don't know how many fans know this but in
the plane that kills Kong is Rick Baker and Peter Jackson. Obviously this is a
play on the original where the director and writer are in the plane that kills
Kong. Probably Baker is there because he played Kong in the '76 remake but of
course he also did the makeup for POTA2001. - - - Jeff

.html
.html
www.aintitcool.com has an article
where Marvel's Avi Arad saya they are going to start from scratch with the next
"Hulk" film. What this has to do with POTA is here's a model of a hot "property"
being revamped when a "reimagination" doesn't go over well. I happened to like
"The Hulk" film (directed by Ang Lee, who almost got an Oscar this year for
"Brokeback Mountain"). But obviously it didn't make the dough they had expected.
Even though I liked the movie it seems obvious that the best mode is to stay
true to what people liked about something in the first place. The big hits
("Harry Potter", "Spiderman", "Lord of the Rings") are true to their original
material. When artists like Ang Lee or Tim Burton try to show they are more
clever than the material there are problems. I haven't seen lat year's
"Bewitched" remake but I heard it wasn't very good because the filmmakers tried
to avoid the TV show remake trap by not really making it like the TV show.
That backfired. It almost seems like bad advice to tell filmmakers not to use
their imagination and instead be slaves to what worked before but I guess it's
true. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Anyway, they are planning to return
"Hulk" to the way it was in the comics. If that works maybe that will inspire
Fox to do a "do over" with POTA. We know how crazy they are with Marvel. - - -

Jeff
They don't HAVE to redo his Hulk.
I'm a comic book fan and professional comic book writer and I actually liked his Hulk.
Although, that may guarantee I will never write a Hulk comic book. Although, the current
Hulk storyline REALLY appeals to me . . . and probably would appeal to some of you ape
fans.
Anyway, an Ang Lee Ape movie COULD be pretty good. But Ang Lee is a very personal
director. He makes his movies HIS movies. That might not go over very well for a franchise
film, like Apes. Or Hulk.
I think the Hulk "redo" will actually be more of a "re-focus" anyway, so it can still be a
Hollywood sequel, but something that would be more marketable. I sure hope we don't
have to sit through another origin story. I hate that superhero movies HAVE to do the
origin story.
And before you ask . . . yes, I did like Burton's Apes. So I've completely negated any
credibilty I could possibly have in this conversation.

.htmlAt least your honest. As much as I hate to admit it, Burton's Apes is
kind of a guilty pleasure, even though he killed the franchise, or
wounded it for another decade or so. There were some elements I liked -
Heston's cameo, the long shot of the rampaging apes being blown sky
high by exploding fuel, and I did like the end homage to the novel.
After the years and years of waiting, I guess even crumbs become
acceptable.

I liked Ang Lee's "Hulk", too. But it
didn't make the money it was supposed to, so it's considered "wrong". The answer
to the question they asked Alfie ("What's it all about?") is: money. - - -

They
don't HAVE to redo his Hulk.
I'm a comic book fan and professional
comic book writer and I actually liked his Hulk.
Although, that may
guarantee I will never write a Hulk comic book. Although, the current Hulk
storyline REALLY appeals to me . . . and probably would appeal to some of you
ape fans.
Anyway, an Ang Lee Ape movie COULD be pretty good. But
Ang Lee is a very personal director. He makes his movies HIS movies. That
might not go over very well for a franchise film, like Apes. Or Hulk.
I think the Hulk "redo" will actually be more of a "re-focus" anyway,
so it can still be a Hollywood sequel, but something that would be more
marketable. I sure hope we don't have to sit through another origin story.
I hate that superhero movies HAVE to do the origin story.
And
before you ask . . . yes, I did like Burton's Apes. So I've completely negated
any credibilty I could possibly have in this conversation.

That's from a short article that was in TIME just before CONQUEST came out. It was called ONWARD AND APEWARD and was only a column long. I have it someplace.
I don't much like TIME magazine when it comes to APES. In their review of the original in '68, they said it wasn't as good as any episode of "Star Trek"!!!!!!

Brent's ship crashed.
I think they had a far better chance of raising a sunken ship
in tact, than they would of putting a wrecked ship back together.
And I believe they said in Escape that the ship was Taylor's ship.

was Taylor's ship. Also, Brent's ship was wrecked whereas Taylor's ship

might be salvagable during a period of low tide.

Not sure how much tide there is in an inland sea.
I prefer the air pocket theory. Or maybe a self-
righting system. Perhaps a bubble of CO 2 trapped
in an inversion layer was release. There was a village
in a valley in Africa that was wiped out, livestock and
all when that happened in a mountain lake. ha carbon
dioxide came down the hill at night displacing the oxygen
in down in the valley and they all asphyxiated in their sleep.

I would have to agree. However, when "Kong" came out, I was expecting the
worse (seeing how remakes are bound to fail.) Yet, when I did see "Kong" I
was rather impressed with some of scenes that represent post moderisms -
symbols catering to anologies, such as western and platoism attitudes toward
people and animals. I'm a real nutcase when it comes to post moderism -
"Blade Runner" being my favorite in that regard.

I'm not saying there isn't a good movie in there. It could have been
save by editing down to it. But when you're 5 or more minutes in to a
totally impossible scene, and it still hasn't resolved itself, I start shaking
my head, i.e. running between the legs of a dozen stampeding
dinosaurs, or using a Thompson to pick bugs, even really big bugs, off of
somebody. NO there are a couple of SMG's you could do that with without
turning them into a body. An H&K MP5SD for example, or a Jati, a P-90
maybe, one or two others. But it you've ever gone to the State Fair and
tried to shoot out that little red star out of that piece of paper, then you
have some idea what I mean. I like Blade Runner too. But thank God
the studio made them do the voice over. Otherwise I'd have been going
WTF? It gave it a nice Film Noir quality too. I can watch it now on
the Directors Cut without it. But back when it was release the first time
-- without it -- I may have been left scratching my head. On the other
hand it was so cool I might have gone back to see it again to get it
straight. If everyone else did it might have been an even bigger cultural
icon. But then they'd have to worry about reviews.

would have to agree. However, when "Kong" came out, I was expecting the
worse (seeing how remakes are bound to fail.) Yet, when I did see "Kong" I
was rather impressed with some of scenes that represent post moderisms -
symbols catering to anologies, such as western and platoism attitudes
toward people and animals. I'm a real nutcase when it comes to post
moderism - "Blade Runner" being my favorite in that
regard.

Good work, James, you've cemented what I always had in mind but was
too lazy to figure out. The definitive Milo account has yet to be
written, it would be nice if we could consolidate all the various
theories into an acceptable whole. It sounds like an ideal candidate
for a second mini-series from Mr Comics to me.

.html.html From TheDigitalBits.com:
So here's the deal on Lancelot
, direct from Image Entertainment. Their 2-disc release is not the complete series, but the company is careful not to market it as such. It seems that of the 15 episodes of the show that were made, only 12 of them were offered to Image for home video release. And of those 12 available episodes, the audio on half of one of them was missing entirely (which accounts for the missing half-episode on the DVD). Also, the masters offered to Image were apparently not in the best shape, so the studio went to a lot of effort to clean them up and make them look as good as was possible. Just know that the 2-disc DVD released yesterday is the best product they can deliver... which, as I said earlier, isn't bad given that it's only $24.99. There was a DVD release of the complete series a few years ago from another company, but it was released on 6 separate volumes for some $20 each, and it's now long out of print. So again, 2 DVDs for $25 versus 6 DVDs for $120...
even with three episodes missing, that's still a helluva good deal. Anyway, that's the deal, just so you know.

Hmm. It would seem logical that the only place that Taylor could retrieve his dogtags would be from his own spaceship! Could Taylor and Nova have journeyed back to the dead lake in a futile attempt to salvage his ship, met Dr Milo along the way and the two began the salvage operation??? Taylor and Brent are the only 2 beings on the planet who knew how to program the ship. For reasons unknown... Taylor and Nova return to NYC (perhaps to look for spare parts)? when they encounter the mutant's illusions and Taylor vanishes...
After their encounter with Brent, Cornelius and Zira inform Milo that Taylor is most likely not coming back and the three begin preparations for lift off.

However, if one truly wants to resolve the discrepancy it can be
done rather simply. Assuming the astronauts did have unseen dog tags
it is also logical to assume they took them off at the waterfall.
Thus, the dog tags would have been stolen by the humans along with
their clothing and other equipment.
After Zira & Lucius free Taylor, they rendezvous with Cornelius near
the corn field where Taylor was captured. Since they are heading
into the Forbidden Zone it is not beyond reason that they would have
topped off their water supply at the last available source of fresh
water before entering the Zone, the waterfall. Thus, it is possible
that while doing this Taylor came across more of his equipment that
the humans had earlier wrecked and stolen, including his dog tags.

realise he was going into space, or did he think he'd found a plane
that could take him somewhere safe on the Planet---to protect Zira's
baby? Was that in fact going to happen, ie, were they going to land
elsewhere, before the destruction of Earth and the shockwave hurled the
ship into some sort of safe mode? The dogtags point is something that
has bothered me--you feel like screaming at Nova -'Don't ask where he's
been hiding them all this time--you may not like what you find!'.The
swimming scene at the start of Planet has my personal hate moment--when
(I think) Landon screams 'Yay, Yay!' as he jumps in makes my toes curl--
it just sounds wrong.John, Scrolls. <.html

Why would they include that this time
????
I am getting somewhat annoyed with
DVD releases and deleted footage being used up in trickles. How many, Special,
Ultimate editions can we take of one movie. Won't the next things be Blue Ray
& HD DVD's so I am sure they will come then.

Regarding ESCAPE, I wish that the deleted footage
when Cornelius, Zira and Milo took off in the third ship, witnessed
the destruction of the planet, went through the Hasslein Curve, and
landed in the ocean would have been included on this latest DVD
reissue...but I was told that it didn't, the movie started out when the
third ship with our chimpanzee friends was floating in the ocean, and
the eventual rescue, etc. I would have considered purchasing the
set if the deleted scenes had been included...not only in ESCAPE, but
BENEATH also had some.

the Apes] Escape From POTA oddity I just noticed
I was looking at the beginning of Escape From POTA and when they
had the
opening credits and noticed something with the scene behind
Ricardo
Montalbon's credit.
One part of the image in the scene shifts in relation to the other.
It's the
sort of thing you sometimes see in split screen scenes that have
the same
actor playing both roles. Both sides of the scene were filmed at
seperate
times and joined together as a split screen.
Well, there was no need for that in the scene with RM's credit,
it's a scene
of the beach shore with the helicopter leaving (with the
apeonauts)
Then I noticed it.
The dust on the helicopter is moving inward: The shot of the
helicopter
leaving is actually a helicopter landing in reverse.
I suppose that they found they needed a shot of the helicopter
leaving but
only had a shot of a helicopter landing. If they simply reversed
the whole
shot, the waves on the shore in the scene would run backwards as
well (and
would be quite noticable). So, they did a little slight of hand
split
screen.
The part of the scene with the shore runs forward motion is split
screened
with the reverse motion helicopter portion. < DIV>

.htmlI've often wondered what motivated C&Z to go with Milo. Of course there
is scientific curiosity which would be a strong motivation. But the
same would be true of Taylor's offer to come with him at the end of
Planet. Cornelius turns it down believing that he would not have to
stand trial for heresy. By the time of Beneath the heresy charges had
been dropped so why go on such a risky adventure especially now that
Zira was pregnant. C&Z must have had a much stronger motivation to
leave Ape City.
We know that the day before that Zira helped Brent escape by unlocking
the wagon door. The Gorilla driving that wagon is later knocked off by
a tree branch during his fight with Brent. Suppose that Gorilla had
lived and made it back to Ape City. Surely what Zira had done would be
considered a high crime, possibly treason since Brent tried to kill the
Gorilla. Such a threat would certainly give C&Z plenty of motivation to
take the flight with Milo.

.htmlI think if you watched 'Brade Runna' with me, you'd like it. The story is different from the
film of course. But the film is such a perfect glimpse into the future: the Japs own/
influence everything, and man isn't happy until he recreates himself. And then
repercussions ensue. I could go on but that would be the scotch talking. I like the
director's cut without Ford's whiny "not this ship sister" narrative. Look for the Millenium
Falcon in Bladerunner, it's there. I never gave this film a chance either for years. You can't
discuss both versions of the film, only the director's cut.
And to keep this on topic, David Watson swinging his arms answering the door in
'Beneath' has got to be the silliest thing ever.

I missed the beginning of this thread. Are we taking nominations for the "Silliest" moments in POTADOM? If so -- and if we're just limiting it to the film series -- then I nominate the entire "The Ape Has Killed Ape!" tree climbing sequence in BATTLE. What a drop from the standard of the original film that scene represents. Can you imagine Frank Schaffner directing such a thing? Silly... and sad.

Robert, the term "special edition" and "ultimate collection" meant to me that the deleted scenes would have been included. I totally agree with your comment, however, about being annoyed with deleted footage only being released in trickles. It is frustrating, isn't it? We need to keep on FOX to release this footage...it would make for a fuller movie, if you ask me! Zach -------Original Message------- From: pota@yahoogroups.com Date: 06/16/06 15:23:17 To:
