Not really. There aren't enough Apes and some of the locales are
strange. If you can find it for less than $10 that's about all it is
worth.

About six months ago they had a ton of them at the 99 cents store.

There have been several kits released of the starship although none of
obtained as high a profile as a company like Aurora would have
managed. What has been available over the years can all fit into the
description of 'Garage kits' - limited run and cast in resin.

Three are still available if you look hard enough: A large kit from
Monsters In Motion (Rory has this) A smaller version from Skyhook
(Rory has this too and this one is my favourite) and another version
from Wilco. The first two feature the ship sinking in the water, while
the third most resembles Virdon's ship.

As to why a plastic styrene version was never mass produced perhaps it
was because no one knew what the entire ship looked like? In the
60's/70's sci-fi and fantasy kits were very much the exception rather
than the rule.

I'm not sure it was just a cultural thing, it was also a chronological
one. In the UK the TV show was, for many, their first encounter with
APES, I remember many of my school friends were not even aware there
were movies! In the UK I don't think any of the movies had been
broadcast on TV before the series was shown.

My Mistake: The Monsters IN Motion version isn't shown sinking - this
too can easily be converted to resemble Virdon's ship.

Have you ever thought about creating a blog site just for apers?
It would make it easier for us to simply access and do than go
here and there and file it...
I mean, I have a great blogsite, but they don't catre to just
this and I have been a number One site since June...
We need something similar to fanfic only where we can add our
thoughts to besides searching out and being disappointed in what we
find...
A place where we can recieve comments and not wait...
A 'Blogsite...
A place where we stand alone yet united. Where a comment is only
viewed by whoever wants to delve deeper into that persons warp
factor...
360's are great but hard to ground...
'Blogs ARE a 360 (full circle)...
Not everyone wants to "bog" our pc's with instant messages and
all that rot...
I recieve enough crap without IM...
If it can happen, let it be so...
It could be great....

This issue is now available for download from Hunter's site. It's week two of the price increase, and the Marvel UK editors, desparate to provide more Apes content to their loyal readers, have included an article this week. Its the first part of a two-part article on the special effects in the Apes films. You also get another chapter in the Terror storyline, a letter colmn, and a few more pages of the reprinted Planet adaptation.

Unless you count Aurora, who did some of the best kits ever. I have a great book that has pictures of every kit they ever did. I wish I still had my old Planet of the Apes kits. I had Cesar, Cornelius, Ursus, Ape Soldier and Zira. They were all very well done and I did a great job of painting them. The only one I didn't get was the Gorilla on Horseback. It took me a good while to paint Ursus!

Ah, the Neptune Factor! I saw this on a double bill with a re-re-re-released Tales from the Crypt. Started out very scientific and got dumber the further down the divers went. I think Ernest Borgnine and Ben Gazzara were in it.

I still have several of them built & painted (minus the bases). I even have Caesar, Aldo and the aforementioned gorilla on horseback unbuilt as well as the "Apes in a Bottle" scenes. When I'm short on cash I often get the urge to sell the 'horseback' model it goes for over 100 dollars on eBay but I just couldn't...

The first one looks like the one I have, only the one I have is painted. The bottom of the ship is smooth and round. It feels like a resin cast now that I think about it.
I really loved that ship and all my notebooks through Junior High were decorated with laboriously scrawled drawing of it and the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). I even did a few drawings with a NASA style gantry and the second stage I'd imagined they'd use to push it into space. I think my story telling how Milo launched Taylors ship is still over at the Fan Fiction site along with my ending for the TV show (grim) and an original story that takes place before Taylor lands. All original characters in that. They'd make decent comics.

I miss the old double features that studios would run during slow
periods. They would usually pair a newer film at the end of its run
with an older film. I remember going to see Escape in January or
Febuary of '72 when was the second feature of some film I can't
remember. In August of that year Conquest made a second round at the
local theaters with 'The Hot Rock' as the second feature.

The Yahoo Group site (http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/) is
already very blog-like. Our message archives go back over 8 years
with almost every topic of interest to POTA fans touched on at some
      point.

The Yahoo site also has advanced search features making it easy for
group members to find older posts on topics of interest.

In addition, members also have the flexibility of receiving posts
as 'Individual Emails' or in 'Daily Digest' format, options most
      blogs don't offer.

From memory Zaius was posed before the Alpha-Omega controls so that
makes sense. The Cornelius base was an odd choice as was the one for
Ursus (in front of a ruined house?)

Even stranger were the suggested colour schemes!

The May 1974 issue of The Monster Times,#33, which was a newspaper
devoted to science fiction, has a big Apes feature. In the review of
Battle, it says 'Caesar, the telepathic savior of the
anthropoids...'.Isn't it odd that, over 30 years befor MR Comics, some
people were interpreting Caesar as having a form of telepathic power?
Maybe we, as Apes fans, are missing something others take for granted?

I read John Huston's biography years ago, only to find that Battle
isn't even mentioned.Does anyone know exactly HOW a legend like Huston
came to subject himself to the make-up process and take on this role? I
doubt is was for the money(APJAC don't seem to have been big payers,
and the budget was low anyway) and it just seems odd that he did this.A
bit like, say, Richard Donner donning the make-up today.Speaking of whom
(sneaky, huh?), Donner is, as of October, going to be co-writing
Superman in Action Comics for DC.Cool or what??!! John, Scrolls.

I miss the old double features that studios would run during slow

Febuary of '72 when was the second feature of some film I can't
remember. In August of that year Conquest made a second round at the
local theaters with 'The Hot Rock' as the second feature.
I remember those days. the year after The Omega Man came out, I saw it as the lower half of a double with about eight other movies. And unlike others, I love the Omega Man. Its one of my favorite Dystopic Films.

Interesting. I wonder who they'd pick if the Lawgiver role were being
cast today. Using the parameters of a legendary actor with a
distinctive voice, my choice would be Sean Connery (who starred in The
Man Who Would Be King directed by John Houston).

That's part of the problem. There are no second run theaters any more.
After a film had been run through all the 'First run' theaters, the
studios would release it to the second run theaters with a second
feature. The closest theater to me when I was young was the Walker.
None of the POTA films ever ran there without a second feature. Most of
the time all the Walker ran was double features. The only time they ran
a first run film was when the Marlboro (the closest first run theater)
        was booked.

I believe there are two prevailing theories (and please correct me if I'm wrong):

        1. The Return series is totally unrelated to either the movies or the live action TV series.
        2. Caesar was successful in changing lanes in Battle and the world of Return is the result.

Personally, I tend to favor the first one.

I have too and it does look like a return to basics. Proof positive
that a film franchise begun in the '60s can reinvent itself and remain
relevant today without abandoning all the elements that made it great
        in the first place.

I'm wondering why they didn't promote this current DVD release of
BATTLE as a "Director's Cut". General public could have been
          interested, if properly informed.

Oh no. Too bad. So they screwed up the darkest movie in the series
          in terms of cinematography.

I'm disappointed, quite frankly. We should do a new petition for
          future DVD releases.

It looks like they adjusted the brightness based on the underground
sequences. As far as I know FOX isn't planning another POTA release
          until the Blu-Ray editions.

I'm not sure if the Extended version is a Director's Cut. The rumor is
that back in the '70s it was created because Battle was too short to
fill out a 2 hour time period on TV.

I believe there are two prevailing theories (and please correct me if I'm wrong):

The Return series is totally unrelated to either the movies or the live action TV series.
Caesar was successful in changing lanes in Battle and the world of Return is the result. Personally, I tend to favor the first one.

I really don't see either the live-action or cartoon series as having anything to do with the continuity of the film series, other than simply being based on them.  The cartoon series seemed like an attempt to meld the vision of Boulle's novel with what had been done in the films, and although it was done cheaply, and got pretty silly at times, it was actually more interesting than the live-action show's concept.

If anyone hasn't seen Daniel Craig act before, check him out in 'Layer Cake'. Great film.
Great book too! I think he's the best actor to be cast as Bond yet.

I saw LAYER CAKE and I think Craig will be OK.  The question really is -- WILL THE SCRIPT BE ANY GOOD?

Personally, I think James Bond has been tired for a long time.  The concept got taken over long ago by such things as the DIE HARD films.  I don't think there's really been a truly great Bond movie since GOLDFINGER.  Even though the films have kept making money, and have had there ups and downs, it's really all kind of stale.  Everyone should really be concerned about the script.
