I'm not paying any attention to it right now, mostly because I'm really only interested in classic movies and it'll be a while before those start rolling out.  Also, NEVER, EVER, EVER buy the first generation of a new electronic device.  These things always have bugs and newer models always have improvements and new features.

For once I agree with you 100%.

One thing I've noticed about the POTA films versus most other movie
series, is that in most series the sequels use the same formats &
formulas as the original. This is true of series from Andy Hardy to
Tarzan to Bond to Star Wars, Indiana Jones & Star Trek. While there
are upgrades in technology & special effect over the years the same
          elements remain.
POTA on the other hand breaks these tenants of most film series.
Each film is very different than the ones that came before it. They
each have their own look & style. I think that is one of the
          strengths of the series.

I would tend to agree although the TV series can be put into the movies
timeline without much interference to continuity. I get the feeling
that what the producers were aiming for.

(I don't remember who) went on record predicting that the format wars
will become stalemate, which my interpretation means, both formats
will fail, regardless of quality, both will become the new beta.

I don't count Never Say Never Again either -- for two reasons.
          A. It wasn't done by Bond producer Saltzman & Broccoli.

And B.  Because of this they couldn't get the rights to the
Bond Theme Music by Monty Norman.  Can't have a real
James Bond movie without it.  Besides, it's a remake of
an original James Bond film, Connery's favorite, Thunderball.

Mike Douglas was a talk show host during the '60s & '70s. He had an
afternoon talk show that began around 4:00 or 4:30, perfect time for
school kids just getting home. Because he was on in the afternoon and
not on against Carson; his show was able to get a lot of big time
          celebrities.

No, they won't fail because there's a desire for hi-def video.  There will be two formats for a while, then perhaps one will dominate and the other fade away.  Who knows?  But people want hi-def.

POTA on the other hand breaks these tenants of most film series.
Each film is very different than the ones that came before it. They
each have their own look & style. I think that is one of the
          strengths of the series.
I must be a lowest Common Denominator here, but I liked (to different degrees) all five Apes films. In order of preference they are:

          Planet
          Conquest
          Escape
          Beneath
          Battle (Uncut)

I don't look for deep philosophy from the sequels, just enjoyment and that's what I got. The original is a classic and should be in a time capsule somewhere but the sequels (which Fox should have put more money into) are fun, timeless movies. At least for me.

It was somewhat alluded to in CONQUEST (in the same oblique manner the genetic engineering was alluded to) but for some reason no one has really picked up on it seriously until the new comic series.

I don't recall how many people here watch the Adult Swim block of programming on Cartoon Network, but- as a point of interest- a post I made on their message board got used as a bump last night at 12:15 AM. In case you happened to be watching, it was about how a background character in 'Gigantor' (which they're currently running at 5:30 in the morning) looked exactly like Orel Puppington (from 'Moral Orel', which is a VERY twisted take on Davey & Goliath and organized religion in general). Usually, they repeat the Sunday bumps all week long, so there's a good chance it'll be on again during the weeknights after 10 PM.

BTW, who was it on this list that I had been discussing 12 Oz. Mouse with some time ago?

You should definitely read it. It's a good fast and fun read (and better than the Battle adaptation which uses an earlier script). I saw a lot of Monster Times on Ebay the other day...

OHMSS is one of the best Bonds, which of course isn't saying much for the post-Connery Bonds.

As for getting it on DVD, well it's been out for some time, but all the Bonds are being re-released on disc in November, remastered in two-disc special editions.

I agree completely.  On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of my favorite non-Connery bonds.  Although, technically it's not a post Connery bond since Sean came back to do at least one or two movies SINCE Lazenby (with or without Never Say Never).  He's more in the middle of the Connery run, than at the end of it.

The sequels are great fun, I agree. My preference ranking would have
Beneath up with Planet. Not because I think Beneath is a better film
but it is the only sequel that take place on the world of the
            original.
Conquest would be my pick for second best. Many people consider
Escape second best but it looks too much like a TV movie to me. I
feel like the original Conquest is the one film that can truely
stand on its own and be enjoyed without seeing one of the other
            films.
In the ads for Conquest, FOX included the words "ALL NEW". Now this
is very true of the film. Unlike the other sequels no clips from
prior films were used. Nor were any costumes or sets. In fact only
one prop from a previous film was used. Does anyone know what that
            was?

the other is a bit harder.

OK Here's an idea for the next comic series Caesar vs. 007;-)

BTW I understand that issue 6 will be release shortly and that there
are already plans in the works for another comic series. It that true?

OK Since no one else has answered:

            1. Paul Dehn co-wrote the screenplay of Goldfinger (ever wonder where he got the ending of BATTLE from).
            2. Norman Burton who played the Hunt Leader in Planet, an Army General in Escape and Galen's father in the TV series also played Felix Leiter in Diamonds Are Forever (co-starring with Bruce Cabot who played Jack Driscoll in the original King Kong).

Another 'sort of' connection is John Huston who played M in the Bond spoof Casino Royale.

Never heard of Merv Griffin---but in asking I acknowledged my
inadequacy. As Confucius said, it is better to be ignorant and ask
questions, than to ask no questions and stay ignorant forever. Not
totally sure why you feel the need to be so abrasive and frankly,
insulting over what was a fun discussion--I'm glad it was me, and not
somebody who might be offended. This is meant to be a fun group and I
enjoy it a lot.I'm not sure I need to be told to learn about the past--
I've got exams in history, European and Classical, I have a Diploma in
Classical studies and a Law Degree, as well as being a published author
on Irish and Roman archaeology.I'm on the committee for my local
history group and a trustee for my local museum---I admit that Merv
Griffin didn't figure large in all those studies, that's why I ask
questions if I don't know the answers.John, Scrolls.

            1. Send me a blank DVD-R or DVD+R with a self addressed stamped envelope (email me privately for my address. Or if that is too much trouble:
            2. Send $2 to Greg P. via his PayPal account: urko3085@.... If you don't have a PayPal account email Greg at the same email to arrange to send him the $2 by Money Order.

Ahh, must be a fan of The Avengers.
It was my favorite show when I was
a kid.  I've been in love with her since
I was four years old, leather cat suit
and all.  Uma Thurman was a patch
on her, and didn't do her justice.

It's not that new.  It's probably

            He was a villain.
In the movie version of The Avengers.
On of the few movies he regretted doing.

Perhaps.  I can't remember the Latin, but the translation is,
If You Had Kept Your Mouth Shut We Might Have Thought You Were Clever.
            The modern version being,
Better to stay silent and be thought a fool than to open you mouth
and remove all doubt.  But for basic questions I feel one learns more
by doing your own research than just asking for an answer.  That's
what the Internet is there for.  There are a few sties that can answer
nearly any question you might have.  Google, Wikipedia and the
Internet Movie Data Base or IMDB.  With those the World is you
oyster.  It's almost like having the sum of all human knowledge.

I wasn't referring to the Conelius photo. I mistakenly thought they
did with J Randolph what was done with Cornelius & Zira in Battle. A
photo with voiceover. Wow. You're absolutely right. All New. Great
point. I never would have realized that.

It's got a lot of background info on the show, the characters, and ideas as to what might be going on in the story.

New episodes starting next month. I'm really looking forward to see what else unfolds.
