More what "drhasslein" said about Caesar's stares provoking the ape
misbehavior. In that case it was more hinted at, whereas the "Emperor Moth"
statement (quite literally) comes out and says it. But both support the fact
when you get right down to it.

>>I assume your refering to the Emperor Moth statement in the last
scene. <<
>> It was somewhat alluded to in CONQUEST (in the same oblique manner
the genetic engineering was alluded to) but for some reason no one has
really picked up on it seriously until the new comic series.

Adult Swim! <<
Actually, I've found Robot Chicken to be seriously unfunny so far this
season save for a very few sketches. The humor is forced instead of coming
naturally from whatever situation is going on, there's a decided move away from
all the pop culture parodies that made the first season as clever as it was, and
even the old standbys (the 'Blooper' segment, for example) aren't working.
Fortunately, there's a lot of stuff to look forward to (new Venture
Brothers, 12 Oz. Mouse, Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force), so you take the
good with the bad.
Speaking of unfunny (so far, anyway): Metalocalypse. Was really
looking forward to that one too.

This sounds fantastic. Can the dvd be shipped to the
United Kingdom? If so, what would be the total cost?
Thanks

And if anyone doesn't know what Blue Peter is, just ask.

Another more-for-your-money issue like last week's, with the latest installment of the Terror storyline (dig those flying monkey demons), the second part of last week's article on special effects in the films, and another chapter in the reprinting of the adaptation of the first film. It is again used by Dodge to blow the hatch.

In Conquest it is used briefly by Kolp to set off the alert when the anomaly is discovered in Ape Management's records.

All I ask (hope) is that no one tries to sell it on eBay (or anywhere
else, for that matter). Buying a disc for $2 literally pays for
nothing but the DVD, the mailer, and postage. No profit is derived
from that offer.
As the 'toons disc said, "Made by the fans, for the fans."
I hope you all enjoy it. And again, my thanks to all of those who
contributed material, whether it or was used or not.

That's a bit of a stretch, James. Fox probably had dozen such items in the prop department, probably left over from the Irwin Allen shows.
What CONQUEST does have are ape suits from the crew members of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA and, I suspect, the Ape Management set, where the apes are conditioned, was made from elements left over from the Control Room set from FANTASTIC VOYAGE. I do know that that set was also used in Arthur Jacobs' 1969 film THE CHAIRMAN.

Well, Irwin Allen was well known for using whatever he could glom from
other movies. Look how many times he reused footage from The Lost World (which
was supposed to be stop motion by Willis O'Brien, but Fox wanted to rush it due
to the success of Journey to the Center of the Earth). There is an episode of
Land of the Giants with Malachi Throne as the leader of a race of Giants who
live underground, in it is the entire Mutant Interrogation/Taylor Cell from
Beneath! It's just painted blue and shot from behind.
I wish I could remember the damn title of that episode!

In the French lobby set from CONQUEST there is a nighttime shot of some
apes on the roof of a building. In the background is a well lit sign that says

.htmlJust an update and a few questions that have come up. The first batch of discs went in the mail this morning. Everyone who had sent payment by noon yesterday was in the fist batch. Got a few more people who sent in payments yesterday afternoon and evening and those discs will go out tomorrow.
Got several payments from people in Canada, and they were gracious to send in a few extra dollars to cover increased postage, which was greatly appreciated. If you're in Canada and want to order a disc but didn't because you weren't sure how much to send, $3 covers the increase in postage (that's $3 total, not $3 in addition to the $2 U.S. cost). Same deal for the UK. If you're somewhere other than the U.S., U.K. or Canada, please e-mail me first so I can confirm airmail rates to your country. Note that the disc is NTSC. It's also region-free. The disc you'll receive is a DVD-R, Maxell
brand. I don't have DVD+Rs. If you require a specific disc type or brand you have the option of sending a blank disc to James Aquila ( jamesa1102@...). James has created a very cool label and DVD wrap and files for those can be found in the group files (on the DG they're in the Photos 2 sub-group). I won't be applying a label or otherwise marking the disc I send you in any way. You can send PayPal payments ($2 for U.S., $3 for U.K. or Canada) to urko3085@... or e-mail me at that address if you don't have a PayPal account and want to send a money order instead. Good for you! You certainly have the courage and confidence to tell your side of the story and appreciate things with an open mind. The classic POTA will forever be embedded in our hearts; however, it's necessary and good that we move on, doing our best go foward. Sure we might have stumbled and scraped our knees but we don't have stay on the ground --- holding on to what is familiar or safe. For one thing, we have to acknowledge that things have changed in the last thirty years. The human condition is at a different level. The face of racism has morphed to different levels. No longer are we threaten by nuclear war as much as we are hated by those we find difficult to understand or even want to understand.Compassion is even more so, however it's struggling to survive. We live in society where freedom is being shadowed by fear --- terrorism. (Just flying reminds me of
something out "Conquest") All these elements need to be reflected in the next POTA movie.

The last time I was in Circuit City they had about six box sets. Didn't look like they were selling.

I wish I could remember the damn title of that episode!
That episode first aired in early 1969, just prior to BENEATH going into production. The set was originally the Grand Central Station set from HELLO, DOLLY! You can see Barbra Streisand walk through it at the beginning on the film. It was in the process of becoming the BENEATH set when "Land of the Giants" shot there. The restaurant set shown later in the film became St. Patrick's Cathedral in BENEATH.

This is a very special announcement. Our good friend Hunter has done it again and put together a Planet of the Apes Rarities DVD. The DVD contains:
- Bumpers & Promos
- Sci Fi Channel Apes Week bumpers (intros) by Roddy McDowall
- Sci Fi Channel TV Series bumpers by Roddy McDowall
- AMC TV 30th Anniversary Apes bumpers with McDowall, Heston, and
Kim Hunter
- The "Old Galen" bumpers for the TV Series movies
- Some promo spots from the Space channel
- Retrospectives
- That's Hollywood, narrated by Tom Bosley
- Movie Magic
- TVOntario's Going Ape
- Extra segment
- Rule the Planet excerpt that covers the originals
- A brief Space special excerpt
- Actors
- "Biography: Roddy McDowall" excerpt
- "Biography: Charlton Heston" excerpt
- Charlton Heston on "Later" with Greg Kinnear
- Spoofs
- Charlton Heston on SNL
- Serta commercial
- MEGO Commercials
- All six of them in better quality than I've ever seen them
This a wonderful collection of rare moments and a must for the DVD collection of any serious POTA fan. And there are two ways you can get your own copy:
- Send me a blank DVD-R or DVD+R with a self addressed stamped envelope (email me privately for my address. Or if that is too much trouble:
- Send $2 to Greg P. via his PayPal account: urko3085@sbcglobal. net. If you don't have a PayPal account email Greg at the same email to arrange to send him the $2 by Money Order.
That's all you have to do. Well worth the time & cost.
Once again thanks to Hunter for putting this DVD together and to everyone who contributed all the rare gems from their own video collections to make this happen.

other retailer that I saw (other than Costco). Circuit City boxes,
barcode endind in 00, are now showing up @ Best Buy with barcode
stickers applied over them ending in 50, so beware those as well.
The way I could tell the press was somehow varied (besides the Best
Buy not having the flaw) was there was more of a green highlight
around the ape eye on the beneath disc artwork, there was no green
highlight on CC, only blue in the artwork. Circuit City's standard
price is higher than best buys, though. $39.99 vs. $37.99.

This is a very special announcement. Our good friend Hunter has done it
again and put together a Planet of the Apes Rarities DVD. The DVD
contains:
* Bumpers & Promos * Sci Fi Channel Apes Week bumpers (intros) by
Roddy McDowall
* Sci Fi Channel TV Series bumpers by Roddy McDowall
* AMC TV 30th Anniversary Apes bumpers with McDowall, Heston, and
Kim Hunter
* The "Old Galen" bumpers for the TV Series movies
* Some promo spots from the Space channel
* Retrospectives * That's Hollywood, narrated by Tom Bosley
* Movie Magic
* TVOntario's Going Ape
* Extra segment
* Rule the Planet excerpt that covers the originals
* A brief Space special excerpt
* Actors * "Biography: Roddy McDowall" excerpt
* "Biography: Charlton Heston" excerpt
* Charlton Heston on "Later" with Greg Kinnear
* Spoofs * Charlton Heston on SNL
* Serta commercial
* MEGO Commercials * All six of them in better quality than I've ever
seen them
This a wonderful collection of rare moments and a must for the DVD
collection of any serious POTA fan. And there are two ways you can get
your own copy:
* Send me a blank DVD-R or DVD+R with a self addressed stamped
envelope (email me privately for my address. Or if that is too much
trouble:
* Send $2 to Greg P. via his PayPal account: urko3085@.... If
you don't have a PayPal account email Greg at the same email to arrange
to send him the $2 by Money Order.
That's all you have to do. Well worth the time & cost.
Once again thanks to Hunter for putting this DVD together and to
everyone who contributed all the rare gems from their own video
collections to make this happen.

After the nuclear Armageddon, and the background radition subsided and the atmosphere around the rumble was safe to breath again, the surviving humans sheltering underground, and now unable to live on the surface, converted these and other tunnels to ventilation shafts.

Creation is a difficult group to deal with. I was more thinking along
the lines of either forming a group to spearhead the convention or
getting one of the furry groups to do it. Since I find most of the
Northern California and out of state furcon promoters are more
creative and more fan oriented than business oriented. <.html

Creation at one time ran some really good Cons, but unfortunately success
went to their heads. What an Apes con needs is something like the people who ran
the first few Trek cons in NYC. I was at the first one ever and no other con was
ever like it.
That was real Fan work.

Of course, the real measure will be when the mass-market paperback of Revolution comes out. If that does well a second mini-series has been promised.

It seems Jeff Burton (Dodge) had the most active career, at least
through the early '70s. The others only had a handful of roles.
Unfortunately, both Burton and Robert Gunner have passed on. Only
Dianne Stanley is left.

Before I got this I'd never seen the "Old Galen" things.
I'm sure it's just me, but I found them kind of sad. I mean you think how great the original movies is, and how good the makeup is, then you look at McDowall doing this. I feel the same way when I see Roddy sitting in what's left of the Ape City set in that episode of the TV show. Schaffner, Shamroy, Heston, Hunter, Evans.... they're all gone, and it's just Roddy left. Personally, if it were me, I'd have sat on the set and cried!

That reminds me....
A few weeks ago I rented the new DVD of the movie THE LOVED ONE (1965). Roddy McDowall has a small part in it, playing a studio executive. His secretary is Asa "Conquest" Maynor, and also in the movie is Paul Williams -- playing a kid! There's a featurette on the disc and Williams appears in it. He's sure not a kid anymore. In fact, he looked pretty old, and, No, he doesn't mention BATTLE -- would you?

.htmlI can't claim any credit for putting the disc together, I'm just
helping out with distribution. Hunter deserves the lion's share of
the credit for this disc, with the rest going to all the fans who
contributed clips from their collections.

.htmlCreation became a victim of its own success. Gary Berman & Adam Malin
were fans who were sick of Conventions that ripped off fans. They
started running their own comics cons and were very good at it.
Unfortunately now they are businessmen concerned with the bottomline.
They dropped a 007 license because it wasn't profitable enough. Now
they do deliever a good product to fans but only do so when there is
enough of a profit margin.
The only way they would ever touch POTA is if there were a new movie
generating buzz. Or if it was part of a general SF convention combined
with other properties.

.htmlSorry for the delay in getting this week's issue posted. Hunter uploaded them to his site earlier today right on schedule, but when I looked the files over before announcing the issue I realized there was a page missing from one of the PDFs and a duplicate page in the other. Corrected files are now available on Hunter's site. If you downloaded the files earlier today during the brief time they were available you'll want to download the corrected versions. This week's issue continues the Terror storyline and has another chapter in the re-presentation of the Planet adaptation. The more-for-you-money era seems to be over, as there is no article or letters page this issue.
Thanks, Greg <.html
