I did like the Future History chronicles (to a point) and still enjoy (thanks Hunter) re-reading Evolution's Nightmare, which was a great one shot. Its ending was worthy of a Planet of the Apes story. I will admit (grudgingly) that Terror was way better than those crap stories Adventure came out with. Ape Nation? Puh-lease.

I've lived all my life in NYC. As a result I don't like mustard on a Hamburger. No New Yorker does. The rest of the country disagrees with us. Does that make us wrong. No it just means we have different tastes. <.html

There is a Bill Creber interview included, but NOTHING that

As for the fur on the scarecrows, I'd say it's ape
fur. If you're going to forbid them from the Zone

Gee. Thought we were supposed to be having fun here. You are right
about my math being off. Guess I should have said even a 9 year old
knew better. As for Dr. Zaius I need to correct you. If you watch
the special features on the extended POTA DVD they specifically say
that the part of Dr. Zaius was 'NOW PLAYED BY'. Not, 'Dr. Zaius was
changed or, 'with a different Dr. Zaius'. I think I'll go by that
thanks. So much for a friendly group discussing some movies we all
enjoyed. <.html

I have that cover w/the yellow lettering too but I always thought that was

Randy is right. We our supposed to be having fun here but lately we've been getting the reputation as an unfriendly group and scaring off new members. I blame myself letting things get out of control recently.
While we don't wish to censor anyone, we do ask that everyone adhere to the Posting Guidelines: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/PostingGuidelines.doc. As it says on the Yahoo Home Page, "All related topics, viewpoints and spirited debate are welcome. However, keep all discussions friendly, on topic & PG-13." However, lately there have been to many nasty arguments about trivial matters. That stops now. The Posting Guidelines will be strictly enforced.
I know many of us have very passionate opinions about POTA and its various incarnations in film, TV and comics. That doesn't mean we can't discuss these things in a civil matter like adults. If someone has a different opinion, you are free to disagree, but do so respectfully. There is no reason for a jihad just because someone dislikes a particular movie or TV episode that you happen to love. Remember debate the issue not the person.
Also, we've always tried to keep the group family friendly. Lately the language here has gotten a bit raw. Please tone it down a little. We do have members that like to visit the group with their kids to share their love of POTA.
This has always been a great group and those of us who run it ask for nothing in return. All we want is to maintain it as a safe haven where all can come and celebrate POTA.
Thanks. <.html

photos of people wearing masks and prosthetics and there are plenty of
fan fiction stories which could be adapted into short movies ! For
example I'm sure many of you have seen the excellent Beware the Beast
comic strip on Hunters site
https://pota.goatley.com/beast.html"
That story only contains one ape Gideon , so its not like you would
need a large cast of Apes in make up. With the rise of youtube etc and
cheap video cameras i'm sure a small group of fans could come up with
something quite intresting.
You would not even have to mention Planet of the Apes in the title or
use the same costumes , i think as long as the story was good and
prosthetics used the outcome would be something a lot of us would like
to see. <.html

NYC is actually made of 5 smaller cities incorporated into one large

.htmlI must be in the minority here because I thought this film was terrible. It's good points (the use of footage from POTA, the Gorilla costumes - do they still make those full head masks? and the weapons were great), but the rest - they couldn't have come up with a better idea than simply showing humans standing around getting blasted down by Gorillas? The time invested in the SFX was really wasted on this story. They should go back to the drawing board (or as someone pointed out the comics) and do something like Beware. They could even do a truncated version, leaving out the humans. Have Gideon discover Brent's ship (which from the way they used POTA footage should be easy) then have him see the edge of the horizon disappear. Or go study some Star Wars fan films, give them an idea of what direction to go in.

Well, three out of five ain't bad. :)
The five boroughs are the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and
Staten Island. Coney Island is part of Brooklyn, and Long Island is
a separate area all its own, filled with dozens of individual cities.
And many of them have been overrun with apes. <.html

We our supposed to be having fun here but lately we've been getting the reputation as an unfriendly group and scaring off new members. I blame myself letting things get out of control recently. While we don't wish to censor anyone, we do ask that everyone adhere to the Posting Guidelines: http://movies. groups.yahoo. com/group/ pota/files/ PostingGuideline s.doc
. As it says on the Yahoo Home Page, "All related topics, viewpoints and spirited debate are welcome. However, keep all discussions friendly, on topic & PG-13." However, lately there have been to many nasty arguments about trivial
matters.
This has always been a great group and those of us who run it ask for nothing in
return. All we want is to maintain it as a safe haven where all can come and celebrate POTA. Thanks.

mentioned in both the film PLANET and in the TV series. "Ape Shall Not
Kill Ape" is just a general rule to follow, like the Commandment
of "Thou Shalt Not Kill". And remember, even though Ursus says that
commandment, he was quite prepared to have those protesting chimpanzees
shot for interfering with his military mission.
Apes killing apes is allowed in their society as long as it's done as
capital punishment.

They've released PLANET several times now on DVD, but none of them

proabably don't know the difference between the Zaius's either.
Anyway, as far as Zaius, watch your TV episodes and if you can point
out one line of dialog that says that he is a "Dr." in the episode,
I'll believe it...
I've seen the TV series episodes many times, and nowhere do they ever
say he is Dr. Zaius. He is only referred to as Zaius or Chief
Councilor Zaius.
How can he even be the same Zaus as in the films anyway? The films
take place on the other side of the continent and 900 years later! I
mean going by the mentality that because there was a Zaius in the TV
series he has to be the same as the film Zaius, then I suppose that
someone might assume that the astronauts who landed 10 years before

The only people we've ever banned are spammers trying to sell stuff. Otherwise, banning is not an effective tool. If a member wishes to cause trouble, they can always come back using a different ID.
The problem has been the myself and the other moderators have gotten too relaxed. We've only stepped in after things have blown up. We need to be a bit more proactive and step in before things get to that point.

I think if current or new members don't adhere to the guidelines, they
should be banned from the group, after sufficent warning.

going to kill other Apes, those are Gorillas, so perhaps it's Ape Shall
Never Kill Ape (Unless said Ape is another species).

And remember, even though Ursus says that
commandment, he was quite prepared to have those protesting chimpanzees
shot for interfering with his military mission.

.htmlAgain, as one of the Moderators here, I am asking that we not take
someone elses views or opinions as personal attacks...
FYI, Peter is not a Moderator, and his opinion is not our
policy...But, he is free to express it, as long as it is not aimed at
any specific individual(s)...
In the sense of all fairness, as well, perhaps we should look at
ourselves and see if we are being too sensitive about our opinions;
and perhaps we should look at others to see if they are not being too
sensitive to us...Either way, perhaps we need to adjust our posts a
little for the peace and general enjoyment of the whole group...

.htmlI don't know that it is an alternate timeline as much as I think they
just named the TV character "Zaius" for some familiarity (name wise
anyway.) And hey, you might have your "evil looking bearded"
character anyway: Remember in the TV series, that Zaius certainly has
a lot more of a "beard" than the film(s) Zaius. ;)
The only way we'll ever know exactly what Fox was trying to do with
the setting for the TV series is if we actually hear it from somebody
who was involved, but unfortunately, most of them have passed on. My
personal opinion is that it is not an alternate future, just earlier
in the same future that brings us PLANET.
Some folks may play the "pet card" and say it can't be in the same
timeline because of the appearance of dogs in the TV show. They're
entitled to that opinion, but I really think it is asking a lot to
believe that every canine and feline in the world was killed by a
plague. I mean not only would it have to kill all dogs and cats, but
surely their cousins would be affected? Wolves, hyenas, dingos, not
to mention lions, tigers, pumas, etc. They'd all be wiped out too
because they're in the same genus as domesticated pets.

.htmlMy guess would be that yes, Zaius would have a heretical orangutan
killed. Anything to keep the staus quo, even if it means having one of
his own killed.

.htmlI've always thought this is what happened...Essentially, all felines
and canines died...
It doesn't seem so far-fetched, to me, that a plague from outer space
could kill them...It would be something no one knew a thing about...An
airborne virus could circle the globe in about a week...
This scenario really hit home, for me, when the pet-food scare hit
here, these past few months...
