And I think that's cool. But no one can ever convince me that it was good or worthwhile reading. I had those magazines when they first came out and rarely ever re-read Terror. I did like the Future History chronicles (to a point) and still enjoy (thanks Hunter) re-reading Evolution's Nightmare, which was a great one shot. Its ending was worthy of a Planet of the Apes story. I will admit (grudgingly) that Terror was way better than those crap stories Adventure came out with. Ape Nation? Puh-lease.

I, being a Native New Yorker (Brooklyn) would go to war over two things;
1 - Mustard Goes on Hot Dogs.
2 - Ketchup (NOT CATSUP, unless its in a tree) goes on Burgers.

I've lived all my life in NYC. As a result I don't like mustard on a Hamburger. No New Yorker does. The rest of the country disagrees with us. Does that make us wrong. No it just means we have different tastes.

I don't know...If it can be hamburger -- yet, there's no ham in it --
can't it be catsup, even though there's no cats in it?...=)

Oh, and personally, I don't like hamburgers or hot dogs with my
mustard -- I'm vegetarian, you see...=)

'Ketchup' means 'tomato sauce', right? I've no idea what 'catsup' is
and my only real demands foodwise are no fish, prawns, anything that
still has the shape it had whilst alive, anything done so rare that a
good vet could save it and anything that is 'good' for me.I'd rather
die fat and misrable than thin and misrable. Also, you Americans scare
me a lot with your eating habits and sauces--reminds me of some sort
of Maya sacrifice.John, Scrolls.

In the interests of peace, love and true harmony, I'm prepared to
adopt the old Irish peacemaking tradition of fighting any man in the
house to see who is right.Apart from Kass, obviously.I love the idea
that an argument has broken out about Terror--comics are like
marriage, as when the arguments stop, there's usually no point.Always
a good rule of thumb with me and Brendan to pretty much ignore
anything we say, especially if it's to each other, are we really are
just a pair of gobshites.John, Scrolls.

Heathen. No Ketchup is not tomato sauce, it's a thick condiment used on many different things like French Fries and cold roast beef sandwiches. I also like it on scrambled eggs.

There are "brown bears" in North America that are almost orange/red

This is a bunch of crap. There are NO "behind the scenes" extras on
the Japanese boxed set, and they use the same masters that they used
    in The States.

There is a Bill Creber interview included, but NOTHING that
shows "behind the scenes" footage of a pissed off Roddy, or anything
else for that matter. It's nice to dream, but the stuff does not
    exist.

BTW: If your friend has this set, why didn't he show you the footage?
And/or why didn't he duplicate it for you, or have you set him up
with someone on the group to have them duplicate it so everybody
    could see it?

anyone have a copy of these discs and would be prepared to duplicate
them? I would to see the behind the scenes clip. Apparently shows
Roddy in not a very good mood.

As for the fur on the scarecrows, I'd say it's ape

Actually I have two printings and they both have that
cover. One is the one you have and the other has the
same picture, but a dark blue background with yellow
lettering. My Conquest cover is actually a Conquest
picture, Escape is the traditional movie art family
photos and I have two different Beneath covers with
different collages and Planet I think there was only
really one main photo with the raft and chimp head.

Randy is right. We our supposed to be having fun here but lately we've been getting the reputation as an unfriendly group and scaring off new members. I blame myself letting things get out of control recently.

While we don't wish to censor anyone, we do ask that everyone adhere to the Posting Guidelines: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/PostingGuidelines.doc. As it says on the Yahoo Home Page, "All related topics, viewpoints and spirited debate are welcome. However, keep all discussions friendly, on topic & PG-13."  However, lately there have been to many nasty arguments about trivial matters. That stops now. The Posting Guidelines will be strictly enforced.

I know many of us have very passionate opinions about POTA and its various incarnations in film, TV and comics. That doesn't mean we can't discuss these things in a civil matter like adults. If someone has a different opinion, you are free to disagree, but do so respectfully. There is no reason for a jihad just because someone dislikes a particular movie or TV episode that you happen to love. Remember debate the issue not the person.

Also, we've always tried to keep the group family friendly. Lately the language here has gotten a bit raw. Please tone it down a little. We do have members that like to visit the group with their kids to share their love of POTA.

This has always been a great group and those of us who run it ask for nothing in return. All we want is to maintain it as a safe haven where all can come and celebrate POTA.

        Thanks.

Has anyone ever seen or made a short Ape movie ? I have seen fan
photos of people wearing masks and prosthetics and there are plenty of
fan fiction stories which could be adapted into short movies ! For
example I'm sure many of you have seen the excellent Beware the Beast
        comic strip on Hunters site
        https://pota.goatley.com/beast.html"
That story only contains one ape Gideon , so its not like you would
need a large cast of Apes in make up. With the rise of youtube etc and
cheap video cameras i'm sure a small group of fans could come up with
        something quite intresting.
You would not even have to mention Planet of the Apes in the title or
use the same costumes , i think as long as the story was good and
prosthetics used the outcome would be something a lot of us would like
        to see.

I always thought (alike most people) that the Island of Manhattan,
was solely "NYC." But in reality is more like the downtown section,
or center hub of a wider puzzle; the NYC metropolitan area (which)
also includes the 5 borroughs: Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island
        and Coney Island (I think?)

A lot of talk has gone around about making something like that, but no
one has done anything, as far as I know...
The closest thing has been "BrokenSea's" audio dramas...

I always thought (alike most people) that the Island of Manhattan,

NYC is actually made of 5 smaller cities incorporated into one large city in 1898 (I believe): Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Coney Island is in Brooklyn; Long Island is a separate entity.

I must be in the minority here because I thought this film was terrible. It's good points (the use of footage from POTA, the Gorilla costumes - do they still make those full head masks? and the weapons were great), but the rest - they couldn't have come up with a better idea than simply showing humans standing around getting blasted down by Gorillas? The time invested in the SFX was really wasted on this story. They should go back to the drawing board (or as someone pointed out the comics) and do something like Beware. They could even do a truncated version, leaving out the humans. Have Gideon discover Brent's ship (which from the way they used POTA footage should be easy) then have him see the edge of the horizon disappear. Or go study some Star Wars fan films, give them an idea of what direction to go in.

Well, three out of five ain't bad. :)

The five boroughs are the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and
Staten Island. Coney Island is part of Brooklyn, and Long Island is
a separate area all its own, filled with dozens of individual cities.

And many of them have been overrun with apes.

Randy is right. We our supposed to be having fun here but lately we've been getting the reputation as an unfriendly group and scaring off new members. I blame myself letting things get out of control recently.
While we don't wish to censor anyone, we do ask that everyone adhere to the Posting Guidelines: http://movies. groups.yahoo. com/group/ pota/files/ PostingGuideline s.doc .
              Thanks.

Well, the apes DO allow capital punishment of their criminals. It's
mentioned in both the film PLANET and in the TV series. "Ape Shall Not
Kill Ape" is just a general rule to follow, like the Commandment
of "Thou Shalt Not Kill". And remember, even though Ursus says that
commandment, he was quite prepared to have those protesting chimpanzees
shot for interfering with his military mission.

Apes killing apes is allowed in their society as long as it's done as
              capital punishment.

What extended PLANET DVD are you referring to here?

They've released PLANET several times now on DVD, but none of them
has been extended version? Even if you're referring to the BEHIND
documentary, that means nothing beacsue it was scripted by people who
proabably don't know the difference between the Zaius's either.

Anyway, as far as Zaius, watch your TV episodes and if you can point
out one line of dialog that says that he is a "Dr." in the episode,
              I'll believe it...

I've seen the TV series episodes many times, and nowhere do they ever
say he is Dr. Zaius. He is only referred to as Zaius or Chief
              Councilor Zaius.

How can he even be the same Zaus as in the films anyway? The films
take place on the other side of the continent and 900 years later! I
mean going by the mentality that because there was a Zaius in the TV
series he has to be the same as the film Zaius, then I suppose that
someone might assume that the astronauts who landed 10 years before
Virdon/Burke/Jones crashed were Taylor and crew?

              Peter,

The only people we've ever banned are spammers trying to sell stuff. Otherwise, banning is not an effective tool. If a member wishes to cause trouble, they can always come back using a different ID.

The problem has been the myself and the other moderators have gotten too relaxed. We've only stepped in after things have blown up. We need to be a bit more proactive and step in before things get to that point.

As far as Capitol Punishment. They do indeed execute apes for heresy. In POTA Cornelius and Zira are discussing the Sacred Scrolls. Zire suggests that they may not be worth the parchment they are written on. Cornelius, asks "Are you trying to get my head chopped off?". I got the impression that this was a pretty standard form of punishment for those who ran afoul of Dr. Zius and his crowd.  Either that, Or maybe the fur in the Forbidden Zone 'scarecrows' was that rayon fake fur that seems to be everywhere today. Perhaps a Target or Walmart survivied. PETA would be happy with that anyway.

This is in the vein of many discussions before...It boils down to
accepting what is presented in the films, or not...If someone wants

I don't know that it is an alternate timeline as much as I think they
just named the TV character "Zaius" for some familiarity (name wise
anyway.) And hey, you might have your "evil looking bearded"
character anyway: Remember in the TV series, that Zaius certainly has
a lot more of a "beard" than the film(s) Zaius. ;)

The only way we'll ever know exactly what Fox was trying to do with
the setting for the TV series is if we actually hear it from somebody
who was involved, but unfortunately, most of them have passed on. My
personal opinion is that it is not an alternate future, just earlier
in the same future that brings us PLANET.

Some folks may play the "pet card" and say it can't be in the same
timeline because of the appearance of dogs in the TV show. They're
entitled to that opinion, but I really think it is asking a lot to
believe that every canine and feline in the world was killed by a
plague. I mean not only would it have to kill all dogs and cats, but
surely their cousins would be affected? Wolves, hyenas, dingos, not
to mention lions, tigers, pumas, etc. They'd all be wiped out too
because they're in the same genus as domesticated pets.

My guess would be that yes, Zaius would have a heretical orangutan

I've always thought this is what happened...Essentially, all felines

It doesn't seem so far-fetched, to me, that a plague from outer space
could kill them...It would be something no one knew a thing about...An
airborne virus could circle the globe in about a week...
This scenario really hit home, for me, when the pet-food scare hit
