Bob Lombardo is the actor behind the makeup in the "This is Marcus" POTA ads. In the film he's the gorilla that comes to get Taylor to be gelded and talks to Julius, and he the same one that pushes Zira away after Taylor is caught in the net. Lombardo doesn't seem o have done much else in films.

.htmlNo that was Norman Burton who was credited as Hunt Leader. He is easy to spot in the film. He's the only Gorilla with glyphs on his sash.
Norman was also in Escape as the Army General on the Presidential Commission.

.htmlIncorrect.
The ape that you're referring to is The Hunt Leader and he was played
by Norman Burton.
The Hunt Leader was not Marcus, head of Security Police.

.htmlYears ago now, I managed to contact Glenn Shadix, a superhumanly nice
guy.I did a really poor job interviewing him, and when we get to
review Burton's movie legacy in Scrolls one day, we'll run it.Anyway,
he told me that the schedule was telescoped because it was meant to
be Christmas. It definitely has , in places, the look of a badly
rushed movie. I have on mini tape somewhere Glenn telling me 'Next
you'll be telling us these beasts have a soul!' which was spooky!
John, Scrolls.
>
> Where did you hear POTA2001 was planned as a Christmas release?
As far as I know, the reason POTA was rushed was because they moved
it up a year because Fox had planned "Minority Report" for 2001 but
Cruise and Speilberg couldn't do it so they switched POTA and M.R.
Basically, Fox needed a big summer movie to plug into 2001. Added to
that was the threatened writer's strike. They had to finish
productions early. So POTA (and Burton) were squeezed from both
directions. Jeff

.htmlExactly. "Some" of it might have appeared in the earliest drafts of
the script, but the scenes he's talking of didn't.
There's not even any "photographic evidence" to support the
possibilty that something like that was ever shot (excluding the
Zaius/Taylor bit, which exists on film and photos, so it'd be hard
to say what's what in an existing scene.)
The only things from BENEATH that I know of that may have existed
and were cut or edited are:
Longer steam-bath scene (footage of which exists in the BENEATH
featurette).
Longer Ursus speech (same as above).
The scene where Zaius, Ursus and the Minister are debating the
Forbidden Zone invasion (scripted AND photos exist.)
The scene where Cornelius is out by the wagons telling the gorilla
that he needs Brent and Nova for research, the gorilla says "no"
due to Captain Odo's (?) orders, to which Cornelius says he can have
them due to orders from Dr. Zaius or something like that. (This too
was scripted and there are photos that indicate such a scene was shot.
I believe one even appeared on a poster for BENEATH, but I'm not
positive of this.)

I'm in need of a picture of the 'trigger' piece, who was broken by

my mailbox ; this way, I could restore the broken piece in some way as
to enjoy this boardgame even more.

.html Hi there,
is there anyone out there in pota universe who has some pictures of the
trigger assembly who was included with the pota vintage gameboard MB
1974.
I bought the gameboard online several weeks ago ; all pieces are in
mint condition, except for one particular piece (trigger) who seems to
be broken on the underside ; this piece needs to be complete to
activate the trigger motion (open or close the prison roof).
So, if someone can help me out here and send me a clear and detailed
picture of that particular 'trigger' (made in brown plastic), I would
be very glad and could enjoy this game even more...
Greetings, PETER <.html

.htmlhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070720/ap_on_sc/australia_old_chimp_dies
SYDNEY, Australia - One of the world's oldest chimps, Fifi, has died
in Australia, zoo officials said Friday. Fifi was the matriarch of
the 18 chimpanzees at Sydney's Taronga Zoo, and celebrated her 60th
birthday in May with sugar-free cupcakes and coconuts among four
generations of her family.
But Fifi, who suffered arthritis and had taken to sipping from a cup
of chamomile tea each morning in her later years, stayed in bed
Thursday morning, raising suspicions among the keepers that she was
unwell, the zoo said in a statement.
Keepers provided her with fresh bedding and her favorite foods, while
other chimps in the group visited her throughout the day, the zoo
said. She died peacefully in the afternoon.
"Keepers have been saddened by the peaceful passing of their oldest
and much loved Chimpanzee, Fifi," the zoo said.
The zoo said an investigation would be held to determine a cause of
death.
Chimps, who share 98 percent of humans' DNA and are our closest
living relatives in nature, have an average life expectancy of about
45 years, but can live longer in captivity because of the health care
and good diet they get.
Cheeta, the star of a dozen "Tarzan" movies in the 1930s and 1940s,
is listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest
chimp. He turned 75 in April. <.html

menacing character, definitely someone I'd have liked to be a recurring

I've never heard anything about that. Maybe
Burton was hoping they'd push it back to Christmas because of the schedule and
they never did, but it was always planned as a "summer tentpole". The thing that
screwed it up was "Minority Report" and those gods Spielberg and Cruise. And
"Minority Report" turned out not to be such a hit anyway. From Day One when
Burton was involved, the trades were saying Summer 2001.
But Spielberg and Cruise have the two movies
I'm looking forward to the most next summer, "Indiana Jones 4" and the one
shooting in Germany where Cruise plays the guy who carried in the suitcase bomb
to kill Hitler (July 20, 1944; happy anniversary). Jeff

Years ago now, I managed to contact Glenn Shadix, a superhumanly nice
guy.I did a really poor job interviewing him, and when we get to
review Burton's movie legacy in Scrolls one day, we'll run it.Anyway,
he told me that the schedule was telescoped because it was meant to be
Christmas. It definitely has , in places, the look of a badly rushed
movie. I have on mini tape somewhere Glenn telling me 'Next you'll be
telling us these beasts have a soul!' which was spooky! John,
Scrolls.
> > Where did you hear POTA2001 was planned as a
Christmas release? As far as I know, the reason POTA was rushed was
because they moved it up a year because Fox had planned "Minority Report"
for 2001 but Cruise and Speilberg couldn't do it so they switched POTA and
M.R. Basically, Fox needed a big summer movie to plug into 2001. Added to
that was the threatened writer's strike. They had to finish
productions early. So POTA (and Burton) were squeezed from both
directions. Jeff > > ----- Original Message ----- >

Did anyone else get "The Rat Patrol" on DVD? I have both seasons. It's a boy's adventure/comic-book level show but I like the cast and cinematography (lots of desert).

.htmlI was just looking at mine ..... There are no
instructions as far as I know....I think I would have
kept them. The wheel thingy sits inside the
case...there should be a round foam piece inside
underneath that the wheel sits on......the tall piece
fits in to the top facing away....Supposedly when you
turn the "knob" it catches the tall piece and either
pulls it back or doesn't therefore either dropping the
human into the cage or not......but mine doesn't seem
to work all that good...I seem to remember having
trouble with it originally as well....
Hope the pics help!

.htmlIn the original POTA, when Taylor goes
through the museum, he runs past a "sculpture" of a 3 fingered
hand - that is clearly not an ape hand.
My pondering is - was this meant
to be an abstract piece of "Ape Modern Art" or was it a representation
of a mutant limb? It was a big sculpture, so clearly wasn't a real
fossil etc.
Does anyone know why this was
included as a set piece?

Sorry, I can't see that image - corporate firewall tends to block images

Can you send it direct as an attachment?

Two words for me in that regard: Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. looks the

Great cast, talented director, and everyone TAKING THEIR TIME.
This one is particularly cool:

an intention to indicate that Apes were capable of artistic expression
(which makes perfect sense in the POTA verse).
But are there any other examples of
Ape art in any of the POTA media?
There are statues of the Lawgiver, intricate
architecture and stylised buildings (which seem to be built around an intriguing
ape aesthetic) interior lattices which are carefully designed to appear
vine like, but no real samples of painting or abstract sculpture beyond
that one really odd piece.
Is it because of the stifling of creative
thought by the Orangs that the Apes haven't fostered a creative culture?
Or are they just not sufficiently evolved to express themselves in matters
of faith and creation beyond the rigid dogma of the sacred scrolls?

I agree. He can say the studio bullied him all he wants,
but as the director it's up to him to stand up to them and
fight for his vision. I just don't think he really had one.

It's official. Jackie Earl Haley, aka Kraik,
will play Rory, er, Rorschach in the movie version of the classic "Watchmen"
graphic novel. It's being directed by Zack Snyder ("300") in Vancouver this
fall. Also in the cast is Billy Crudup (Dr. Manhattan), Jeffrey Dean Morgan of
"Grey's Anatomy" (the Comedian), Malin Akerman (Silk Spectre), Matthew Goode
(Ozymandias) and Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl). Jeff

They were both crap. Fox exec Peter Chernin
said the Hayes script was one of the best scripts he ever read. Typical. But I
preferred it to the Hamm version which was awful. The Rifkin one,
too. Of all of them (including Burton's), Hayes was the best.

They're out there somewhere. My site is proud to be a PotA2001-free

The media watchdogs are at it again. Disney
has become the first studio to ban smoking from it's family films, and it's
executives will "discourage" smoking in it's more adult flicks, like Miramax and
Touchstone. That's just more political B.S. and censorship. As a life long movie
fan who never took up smoking, I find this buckling to pressure groups
ridiculous. Teaching kids not to smoke should take place in real life. Sometimes
smoking works as a way to show character or, yeah, showing rebellion. There
should be a pressure group to stop homogeneous corporate think in
society.
There was cigar smoking in POTA and remember
when Cornelius tries a smoke in "Escape"?

his cigar digitally removed and replaced with one of those twirly party
horns.Anybody who saw Linda Harrison's expression at the NEC this year
whilst she had to hold Buck Kartalian's cigar may think the ban is a
good idea.Wasn't there a group in America letting down tyres at one
time because it was wrong to imprison the air? And no, that's not a
punchline to a fart joke. John, Scrolls.

You see... This statement was either bullshit, or it tells you reams about the corporate mentality at Fox, one that's still there. They don't know shit from ... whatever you compare shit to. And that's what we ended up with with POTA2001 -- a big pile of shit!
By the way, I finally got around to seeing LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, and saw the Ursus poster thingie. It had Asian writing over the image of Ursus that I can only wonder about the meaning of.
