I'm having problems finding the list again. I just remember Psycho was
#1 I think Godzilla was #10 ... Down to Earth, Stepford Wives, Pink
Panther, Get Carter, the Wahlberg movie with Charlie in the title, I

to see it. I've mentioned before that maybe Jonesy in the TV Series
only existed to fill the third seat on a ready made prop.With all the
gloom about third films in franchises lately, maybe we should be

I haven't yet listened to the last episode, I was hoping to have a few

and I could have sworn one of the voice cast was you... Turns out it

We all know that most of the original "Apes" movie took place in
future New Jersey. As a Jersey resident, I'd like to know if anyone
has any idea which town or city is the future site of the ape city.

But they were only expecting a best case scenario of a $30 million opening weekend for Simpsons so its a big deal for the studio.

Also it's true to the current series, it's not a re-imagining.    And lets face it, POTA isn't still being made after 18 seasons before the first movie was made.

Not really sure. Don't know New Jersey well enough. If you go to the MAPS page of the Group's website and click on the 'EAST COAST' tab, the map from the film comes up. Roll your cursor over the map and a present day map is overlayed. It looks like Ape City is somewhere between Parsippany and Scotch Plains.

I think it would be interesting to pinpoint. There is a plaque in
Jersey where the aliens landed in "War of the Worlds". I think the

I totally agree--the opening weekend for Apes was built on the
tremendous fan love for the franchise and the general public interest
that Apes has always generated.The existing Ape phenomenon drew the
crowds in to Burton's effort and, in a way, you could say that POTA
1968 saved the butts of the studio on POTA 2001, as , on its own
merits alone, POTA 2001 would have crashed and burned. That is the
exasperating thing--Apes, done as Apes, not as Sinbad, works--it has
a truly astonishing box office history. It really took some doing to
get it SO wrong.Imagine what that movie, done right, could have made
at the box office.Along with two successful sequels since then? Fair
enough if Fox wants to make money and revive a franchise--I'm behind

that's a testament to the interest people had in a new "Apes" movie.

In the UK Apes poster mag of the 70s, there's a comment that the US
makes tv series out of successful films, whereas as the UK made (there
isn't a British film industry any more) films out of hit series
(usually pretty awful films, however).I wonder if the Simpsons is

Burton's Apes. Sure, it's clunky and awkward in places, but the
opening space scenes, the look of Ari, the potential for Thade's
character, the brilliant portrayal of Limbo all let me love it just a
bit.The novels and junior novels really flesh the characters out and
give a wonderful context for the movie.There's an essence of the idea
of Apes in Burton's effort--not enough to save it but just enough for
me, as an Apes fan, to relate to it on some level. John, Scrolls.

old Helena gave as good a performance as she could and, at the end of
the day, you have to remember that if you take away the clothes and
make-up, you're left with a naked Helena, which is an important
thought in this war-torn world. Limbo/Giamatti is one of the few
successes for me, but I may be in a minority of one on that! I also
quite liked the red chimps and the Ape 'lope' running routine.Yes, I

Greeting folks, Rich Handley recomended your list to me, and I am
here with a request.

There's a comic team called the 'Captain Britain' Corps ... doesn't
much matter if you're unfamiliar with them ... basically an alien
version of Merlin has created versions of UK-based superheroes on
every alternate Earth he can find. I can help with details on the
character background if need be. I'm currently editing a fanfic
anthology based on different members of the Corps (some of which are
nonhuman). I am interested in a story which features a superhero
(actually a superheroic ape) interacting with the Apeslayer
continuity.

I want to feature a character named Gorilla Britain, from the PoTA
Earth depicted in the final film, where apes and humans live in
peace. The story details what happens when his Earth is invaded by
Martian apes from an alternate dimension. It may even involve
collaborating with the repulsively-named 'Apeslayer' (who followed
the invaders) and taking down his evil counterpart: Guerilla Briton.

This is an isolated tale so don't necessarily think of it as being in
the 'real' PoTA continuity (hence the incongruity of there being a
simian superhero). I am prepared to write it myself, but it might be
good to see it written by someone who actually has a 'feel' for this
universe.

Because Escape's deleted scenes were done when the the only concievable use
of segments not included in the film were for later network TV showings. If
FX were not completed, it could not be used for network showings and so the
footage is likely destroyed.

I'll bet the actual footage, even if not destroyed will have to be searched
for in the Fox vaults.

Weird enough, I have the recurrent idea to write a GREEN LANTERN
story where CAESAR himself becomes the Green Lantern assigned to
Earth (or what is left of it).
We had similar ideas because the "potential" for a simian superhero
operating on the Planet of the Apes (Apeline Two) is ALL there!

Now, I was as displeased as anyone with the Burton film, but I did

I've said it before, I know, but Burton's APES simply stank.  If he was going to do another movie regarding APES, what he should've done was continued the saga after BATTLE.  I really was expecting to hear the names Zira, Cornelius, Taylor, Milo, and Caesar mentioned...and when I didn't, I was extremely disappointed in it.  That would have at least have continued the storyline.  This 2001 mess, as far as I'm concerned, wasn't APES the way the five movies, the TV series, the MARVEL comics...and the fantastic REVOLUTION series were.  I also need to include the 1990's era APES comics (APE CITY, etc.)   Zach     -------Original Message-------   From: Haristas@... I totally agree with you, Bruce.  I'd mentioned that the dialogue that was exchanged between the three Ape-O-nauts was definitely Roddy, Kim and Sal...again, this scene was filmed but deleted.  To me, restoring it would make a more complete movie.  It would be interesting to see the ship launched and its eventual landing in the ocean.   Zach      -------Original Message-------   From: stenosaurus@... I've said it before, I know, but Burton's APES simply stank.  If he was going to do another movie regarding APES, what he should've done was continued the saga after BATTLE.  I really was expecting to hear the names Zira, Cornelius, Taylor, Milo, and Caesar mentioned...and when I didn't, I was extremely disappointed in it.  That would have at least continued the story.    Zach    -------Original Message-------   From: Haristas@... Well, I think a distinction has to be drawn between the character as
scripted and the actor's portrayal of that character.Personally, and
I accept that others will have differing views, I feel that Giamatti
gave a wonderful performance and probably did exactly what his
director wanted.He's a hell of an actor.In the context of the given
role, I think the performance was excellent.Whether or not we like

There's a pic of a sweaty Roddy and Sal ( the latter looking like a
deathbed Elvis) in the spacesuits, without make-up.It's not
conclusive, but, as the visors would stay down for the missing
footage, so as not to spoil the later 'reveal', this pic is probably
evidence that the actors themeselves, not doubles, filmed that

Not to split too many hairs but that doesn't mean a thing. If you can't see
thier faces under the helmets they could've filmed it with anybody and have
the actors record the dialog later.

I bet the real thing that determines whether or not the real actors were
used was if the shoot was first unit or second unit.

First unit meaning the main unit with the stars and the director. Second
unit being a unit that gets non-star shots and other stuff not directly
related to having the stars, usually they have a special second unit
director. This could include location shots or stunt shots or something they
can get away with not having the main stars on set (which saves money).

So it is equally possible that this could be a second unit shoot or this
could've been a part of the first unit shoot.

technological advances in film production, the novel can be fleshed
out into a real visual treat without breaking the bank.....so to speak.
It would be nice! Give the fans a reason to support POTA to the extent
of having a stand alone convention<hint...hint>!

in the sixties. Even though Tim Burton did his "Re-Thinking" of the
property, it is still what it is....FOX's property. This was one of
the reasons George Lucas produced Star Wars the way he did, and kept
it his property and Fox's....And you see what happened, it took off
like wildfire and has a fan base and following that is unreal. POTA
unfortunately, is a lost property so to speak. No respect for it and a
weakened fan base to support it.
It's sad for something so unique to fall to such abuse. But there's
always hope that someone will come along, knowing how to play the
field, and do POTA right!

Since about 1965 when I first discovered my older brother's (incomplete) set of cards I have been in love with Mars Attacks. When I finished the set about 10 years later I was in collector's heaven and when the second set of cards and the comics were released I thought, "life is good!" I eagerly awaited the release of the film with the same gusto and went the first or second day of its release to see it. Was I disappointed! Sure the CGI was excellent but why Burton though it had to be a comedy is beyond me. Great talent like Jack Nicholson (who was so good in Burton's BATMAN) was wasted in this lame example of filmmaking at it's worst. However I did buy all the MARS ATTACKS movie toys-some thing I wish they'd released in the 60's when I was still a kid.
