.htmlThere is something subliminally primal about Planet and it's an extra
layer of impact that doesn't always get talked about. From the
sanitised world of the ship we then fly through the air, swim through
the water, march across the land and then find greenery and
life.Taylor's look of unconcealed lust at Nova is really effective
and then the sound of the hunting horn turns us into animals again--
and all before we even SEE an ape! I love the three ocean episodes of
the tv series, and the way Planet melds with Beneath almost sets the
ocean as the trigger sound for the entire series.I still get a little
shock at the beginning of Escape when, building on our familiarity
with the ocean sounds and Apes, we are, at the start, double crossed
when the sound of the helicopter comes in.Bloody hell these films are
good! John, Scrolls.

William Windom played the President of the U.S. in "Escape."
He was also on "Murder, She Wrote," and gave an hilarious turn as
Steve Martin's indecisive boss in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_and_time_notation_by_country
The United States is perhaps the only country in which dates are
written in the month-day-year order, that is, in neither descending or
ascending order of significance. (In computing, this would be called a
"middle-endian" order.) This order is used in both the traditional
all-numeric date (e.g., "12/31/99") (said with all cardinal numbers)
as well as in the expanded form (e.g., "December 31, 1999") (said with
the year as a cardinal number and the day as an ordinal number e.g.
"December thirty-first, nineteen ninety-nine), with the historical
rationale that it is indeed big-endian with respect to the month and
day, as the year was often of lesser importance. The most commonly
used separator in the all-numeric form is the slash, though the hyphen
is also common. Dots have also emerged in both formats recently -- for
example, in movie trailers and on NBC Today since September 13, 2006.

|
.html Bill Gates has said that Microsoft's new smash hit computer game
is 'truly a cultural phenomenon'.It made me wonder if that true
cultural phenomenon , Planet of the Apes, might come back as a big
computer game, rather than a movie. Halo grossed $300 million in its
first week.Spider-mam 3 did $151 mill in the first week but cost $261
mill, compared to Halo's $20-$30 mill production cost. So, as the
article points out, Spidey has a profit margin of 45%, whilst Halo is
about 90%. Halo has a Marvel comic tied to its media blitz and there's
a real move towards computer games for instant big bucks nowadays. Apes
seems perfect for it (even though I could never get out of the blasted
cage in the previous one!). It will be interesting to see if Halo
becomes a movie. John, Scrolls. <.html

Just two. Zira and Dr. Zaius. Here is the TV Guide listing for the show:

And here's the one for the Sonny & Cher Show:

Looking at the dates I noticed that POTA spoofs were featured in shows less than a week prior to PLANET and BENEATH being aired on TV for the first time. I think that shows the popularity of the franchise back then.
I should also point out the listing next to Sonny & Cher for a show called Faraday and Company. It lists James Naughton as a cast member. Does anyone remember this show? I assume it was canceled after that season making Naughton was available for the POTA TV series the next year. <.html

.html I've just finished watching Wolfgang Peterson's new Director's cut of
'Troy' which BTW is a vast improvement on the theatrical version.
Included in the tweaks is that a significant amount of James Horner's
underwhelming original score has been replaced using other sources.
The epic face-off between Brad Pitt's 'Achilles' and Eric Bana's
'Hector' is now accompanied by Danny Elfman's main title music to the
2001 version of POTA (and very effectively too!)

even hear about, let alone see.Anybody want to ask Cher herself what
she recalls? I know she has a web site.Don Rickles is an amazing
individual. Not only was he in Kelly's Heroes, possibly my favourite
war film ever, but somehow he manages to feature on the covers of
several DC comics in the late 60s/early 70s.He'd have made a great
Ape in the movies. John.

That was about the *only* descent part of that film. Honestly, it
reminded me a bit of Goldsmith's score from the original in the scene where
they're all going up towards Cornelius' cave. Both had sections that
sounded an egg whisker scraping inside a wooden bowl.

This concert was a couple of years ago before Our Great Genius
died. What was really funny was when it came to playing the POTA
score in their playlist, there was a lot of moving around within the
orchestra as they rearranged their stuff in order to perform. You
can do the main titles to SUPERGIRL or STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
easily but APES required a little more effort.
The beautiful thing was that it sounded EXACTLY like the movie. All
orchestration and beats were exactly the same. As I said, it was
joyous to see the bows of the string section of the London Symphony
Orchestra working REALLY HARD to play that fabulous score.
Goldsmith was an incredibly warm man and would always turn around at
the end of the concert and talk to the audience. No, actually, he
would SHOUT, as he had no microphone. "OK you guys, what do you
want me to play for the encore??". This always happened at his
concerts and we would all shout titles from our seats.
Then the LSO would fire up again and we'd all be in heaven. Only
thing I regret is not having all of you guys and girls at any one of
those performances. I saw him four times in London when he visited
and it was always -- in a word -- joyous.
Just thought I'd share it.

++++ Yeah, ok. Maybe I'm a bit biased. But I did read an informed
article where Elfman stated he DID produce a large amount of the score
on his computer in the studio and then augmented the work with a
proper orchestra. But he was still following Jerry's lead.
But you're right. Why carp? Just wanted to tell you about the
concerts.

Hot damn you continue to weave that old black magic... I can't wait
for the sense-shattering, butt clenching next installment! :0)
What are the chances of, every now and again, compiling a number of
these entries together to make for a more satisfying read? (without
all that mouse clicking). Much as Bill does with his audio compilations.
And surely Cornelius would have paused in his writings for a sketch or
two?
"One of the students, Glennius, has turned out to be something of a
gifted artist and has produced these wonderful renderings. I must be
careful to conceal them from Dr. Zaius."
It occurs to me that Cornelius's diary, if discovered by the wrong
people will be enough evidence to 'get his head chopped off'. He must
know that... maybe he wants to get caught!

performance -- especially when you're claustrophobic.
As she said in her book, "Act? Were they kidding?"
Someone once said Ginger Rodgers danced the

And what do they do? Give the Oscar to the
makeup. It's just a mask until the actor, or

It's pretty tough to have everything but your eyeballs covered in foam rubber and hair, stuck in a hobble skirt, trying not to trip over the thumbs on your feet and still give a credible performance -- especially when you're claustrophobic. As she said in her book, "Act? Were they kidding?" Someone once said Ginger Rodgers danced the same dance Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in heels. I think a bit of that applies here. And what do they do? Give the Oscar to the makeup. It's just a mask until the actor, or actress in this case, breathes life into it.

.htmlI remember one of the episodes was "The Gladiators", since Urko was standing next to the map showing Jason where the fugutives were sighted. I can't think of any other episodes. Hope this is of some help. Arashi the Banjo Cat

.htmlExactly my point. She was overlooked.
The actress that did win that year did so for a film that also featured Maurice Evans.

.htmlI tend to agree. The final scenes with Aldo is some of the best ape acting in the series.
Most people tend to think of Claude Akins as Sherrif Lobo but he was really a very good character actor.

.htmlBetween that scene and Aldo locking up the innocent humans, I'm convinced he must have been channelling John Ashcroft;-)

But the good news is that a pdf of the first 7 entrys will be made available next Friday.
