The next big director retrospective at the NFT in London is dedicated
to Tim Burton. Incredibly, they are including POTA 2001. I am assuming
it'll be in the smallest of the three screens, as I can't imagine a lot
of people will want to see it. It was quite amusing to read the NFT's
programme trying to describe the film in a way that didn't make it
sound like an utter failure in almost every way.

Never really cared for that one, even though Roddy was in it. Did
anyone bother with the sequel, and if so, was Roddy's performance on
par with the first installment?

Check out this new Lawgiver head. It was made by one of the guys from the SideShow POTA website. You will need to paint it but with a little bit of skill you can turn your Zaius figure into a John Huston Lawgiver. If the head is a success he'll sculpt and cast more ape parts.

Thanks for the info on "Battle", I do remember now hearing that the
extra footage was on a Japan Laser. Still... I can't believe that
edited footage from the first movie featuring Taylor's flight isn't
mentioned for a possible release. I read that Chalton Heston had the
flu that day and of all the filmed footage... Only the famous short
line "Get your Stinkin' Paws Off Me..." made the cut! The film came
in at 110 minutes, they should have kept this footage in since it
would be dramatic leading to him being captured again. Well, that's
how I feel anyway. I wonder if this footage or any other unseen
footage was destroyed?

Yes, that's the card! I see (Blueray) released the 2001 movie, maybe
if they release a POTA boxset, it will include more never seen
footage from the original 5 movies. With 2008 being the 40th
Anniversary, we might get something new on dvd, only that there has
been new sets just released recently, so who knows? In the
special "Behind", the director of "Conquest" mentioned how he was
hoping for a extented cut of the movie, since "Conquest" had alot cut
from it originally. 20th Century Fox has released many forms over the
recent years on POTA, I'm starting to think that cut footage is
forever missing or you would think the other 4 movies would have by
now had a directors cut released.

I guess your right, I was just thinking maybe someone might know how to
find this particular footage. The only proof of it, is printed on the
card and talked about in the book with Chalton Heston having the flu
when it was filmed. Any idea if there is other shots of this "Taylor's
Flight", just photos, not filmed footage.... I do have a few rare
segments of interviews and clips for the Anniversary's I mentioned for
Sci-Fi Channel and AMC Marathon from 1998. A clip of Charlton Heston
riding a horse across a football field at a New Orleans Saints game
from 1968, Saturday Night Live and some other stuff I can't remember at
the moment. Sure, I wouldn't mind sharing these... I have to look
though it all and see everthing I have. I guess many people here might
have some of this stuff. Don't laugh, but I taped everything when the
new Tim Burton movie came out in 2001. I taped every interview from
talk shows too! I was really excited when the new movie finally was
released, too bad it was 1 and done... Wanted to see a new series of
movies.

HEy Roberto...
Several things you mentioned are included on a "Rarities" disc that some members made up...maybe you could get one of those....I know there are plans for a second volume so maybe you have some stuff not included the first time! any of these discs left Hunter?

Ha!  You wish.
They had 3 scripts to choose from.
And they had 3 writers on the one they picked...
So, no excuse there.

The really annoying thing about Buton's Apes is that, for the
purposes of a re-make, the script would have been a given--just do
what Wilson and Seling did, but with modern techniques.THAT movie
would have been a runaway success and we'd be watching the second
sequel now. All that princesses and unicorns bullshit should carry
the death penalty just for suggesting it.Classic Apes is perfect and
unspeakably cool looking---why decide to mess with it? John, Scrolls.

Whilst it's only currently available on bootleg dvd, Roddy is truly
excellent in The Fantastic Journey, a 10 episode time travel series

sympathy and authority and it makes me mad that he wasn't allowed to
have the time to fully flesh out Galen in the Apes series, because
Roddy would have created a legend.John, Scrolls.
I just watched the Fantastic Journey episode last night with Joan Collins and I must say Roddy was the best part of the show! Of course in those days Joan wasn't bad to look at but watching the kid in the series writhing on the floor as he was being poisoned to death was a little too much.

Well, maybe they're an Ape version of the Ancient Greek Theban Band,
where warriors were placed in pairs of lovers, side by side in battle,
because they'd fight like savages to protect their boyfriend. With my
luck, I'd end up with Boy George watching my....back.I, in all
seriousness, think Barlow from the Gladiators episode of the tv series
was gay---if you listen to his first meeting with Galen, it's like a
pick up in a gay bar (I'd imagine)and he's anxious for him to hang
around, plies him with booze and tells him he likes him.I've always
thought both versions of Zaius might be gay too. John, Scrolls.

Hmm perhaps it shows just how much cleverer the Orang Utangs were
lol..they use the Chimps to devise a way of manipulating the gorrilla
genetic makeup,by making most of the males inherently gay, they are
still able to fight, but not breed. Thus it prevents too much power
going to the gorrillas,as only a select few gorrillas can breed and
the gay band die off in battle leaving no offspring, thereby ensuring
if there is a gorrila takeover,it won't last long lol.....now applying
such thoughts to today's environment..it is one way to beat that al-
qeda bunch etc

True, but they did do away with Ari being a princess,
and with Thade being her brother.  They just should
have done away with a lot more.  Like those oneliners
of Limbo's.  Classic Apes was perfect.  They realized
you can't improve on perfection, so they went in another
direction.  I don't agree with the direction they took it
but now their all out of work.  Maybe I can get them
to listen to me for a change, but I won't hold my breath.
I still think a sequel to their story line could be better
then what they did originally, but it's probably dead.

I hope I can get a copy of the rarities dvd everyone made, I can
contribute to the next rarities #2, I've been busy looking thru and
writing down all the rare POTA items I have, which I loaded on dvds.
I'll soon include a list detailing all I have. Some of the stuff I
have, which I watched today are the hosted segments that Roddy, Kim
and Charlton did for AMC's 30th Anniversary Marathon and the Ape Week
Marathon The Sci-Fi Channel did with new hosted/Interview clips by
Roddy, Kim and Charlton. Each segment is short, but there are over 50
clips + AMC "Reel To Reel" segments on The POTA impact and
commercials for the Evolution boxset and a rare "Beneath" movie
trailer, which isn't the one included on the dvd sets. Some others
are....

6 1970's POTA Mego Toy Commercials
"Extra" 1998 segment with Charlton & Linda talk of 1968 POTA Movie
Conan O'Brien- Charlton Heston 1998
5 News segments on Roddy's death + TCM Remembers
Charlton Heston clip (Riding Horse) from 1968
Saturday Night Live hosted by Charlton Heston

That's all I found so far, I won't mention all the news clips and TV
talk shows regarding the Tim Burton 2001 movie I have, since nobody
really cares it seems about that. I did tape every talk show that had
the various guests who starred in the movie. Funny thing.. Roddy
mentions in one of the Sci-Fi Channel clips that Oliver Stone will be
doing the new POTA movie.... Remember how much we heard about that?

there ant talk about a new movie. I don't think anymore it will be a
sequal to Tim Burton's, but maybe Peter Jackson could try it next since
he is with 20th Century Fox. Back in 2001, remember the talk about a
possible Apes TV series??? Now it's been reported that "Star Wars" will
get a long waited TV series. Well anyway, I hope there are a couple of
items I listed in my last message that can be used for the next
rarities disc.

And I've actually started going through the 12+ GB of video that I

Ever see "The Outer Space Connection" with Rod Serling? It's a
documentary study on how life may have started here on earth. In it,
we see a Monkey using a computer with sybols... The Chimp knows how
to put in the correct combination to open doors to get food. Rod
Serling goes on to say, "It's not exactly Planet of the Apes." This
is a good video to watch!

Here's a contact sheet of Taylor escaping. The top 2 on the left are dark but they show Heston floating in an ape pool of some kind. OK, so it's not the actual footage but it's as close as we can get-at least til (maybe) the 40th anniversary edition DVD next year.

It's one of my first "sculpts" Dave. Technically, it more of a sever
modification. I totally transformed Zaius into John Huston/Lawgiver.
There have been other sculpts/modifcations. Virgil, Dodge, MANY
gorillas with open mouths and teeth, The President of the Assembly, a
new mutant mask for the Fat Man (Victor Buono), little Marcus, Elta
(Urkos wife), The Alpha Omega Doomsday Bomb, The ape wagon and many
other things...

Thanks for posting that! It would be great if it comes true, seeing
this lost footage on a 40th ann DVD edition next year as you say...
Reading messages at sideshowcollectors.com with the debate (HD DVD vs
Blueray), don't know how true this is, but it's said that HD DVD holds
50G of space compared to only 4.5G for regular DVD.... Any idea if the
1st Apes movie will be released on this formay anytime soon or on
Blueray... With these formats adding much more to them, you would think
this is our best chance for that lost footage, and lets not forget all
that was cut from Conquest!!!

Angel, With the exception of the superb, and easy to display, Medicom
series I'm not a collector of action figures - something my wife and
wallet are very thankful for - but I have been a kit-builder for as
long as I can remember so I think I know talent when I see it.

You've got the touch my friend and it's people like Chris Hight and
yourself that quite frankly put the professionals to shame. Leave it
to the fans to lavish the kind of love and attention on a project to
make it REALLY cool.

The Mendez bust is a simple idea and therefore quite brilliant - you
could have a whole series and make a chess set! (or give them away
free in packs of cereal!) The Alpha Omega bomb sounds deceptively easy
to build although I wouldn't have the space for the scale you've gone for.

There's a guy on ebay who for some time has been selling some rather
nice Chuck Heston and other 'replacement heads' - is he part of the group?

I think the Sideshow Brent has the most terrifying features I've ever
seen on a figure - I remember gazing into those mad eyes and feeling
my bowels start to loosen :0) How did they get that sooooo wrong?

I never considered selling prints. Not sure how much to charge or
even how to go about doing making prints.
I could always just send you a hi-res jpeg and you can print it out
yourself if you want. Gratis.

The piece is going to appear in a National Cartoonists Society group
show on Long Island next month.

I agree totally, Bruce, and Roberto.  I well remember the Betamax video tapes, as well as the VHS, which replaced those...and the vinyl records, that CD's replaced.

Well if the new format, HD DVD or Blueray, wants to sell players by
releasing any of the Ape films, than they have to release new
director-cut' s.... Or what would be the reason to buy any of them?
DVD picture quality is good enough, I think there has to be more

You can also look at it another way... Yes change will come sooner or
later but is HD DVD or Blueray the answer? Remember SUPER VHS and
Laser Disc... Better quality but they didn't defeat regular VHS!!!
The regular DVD's in my opinion will stay around until HD DVD,
Blueray or some other format can give people some reason to change.
DVD's give many reasons over VHS tapes, but unless another format can
give much more than regular DVD's it make take a long time... DVD
already has great picture and bonus features. We may see change
taking more than just a few years, maybe another 10 to 15 years. How
long was VHS tapes and Vinyl records around?

Maybe alien life is ready to do that because of the way we treat the
planet. Did you see "Larry King Live" friday? Monday November 12 in
Washington DC for the first time, High Ranking Officials will come
forward and release UFO Files... Maybe we will know the whole truth
about Cornelius, Zira & Milo's landing back in the 70's. Some people
say this really did happen and it was covered up. LOL Well I would
settle for the missing scenes on DVD.

The hell we will.  Take my advice.  If you have to have
Blu-Ray, just install one in a new computer.  In the
future, and as Craig Ferguson says, "Tomorrow's
just your future yesterday.", but in the future
you'll download movies like they're iTunes.
And if you have to have a hardcopy you'll
burn it yourself, as well as cover and all.

Neither.  Sooner or later gadgets will have
to become multiplex, like an electronic
Swiss Army Knife.  You'll all have a
few computers.  One to to run your
home and media room, one to
take with you, and one on
your wrist or in a phone.
I have one now, just to
    watch anime on. But
    it's too small to
    read subtitles
    on. Dang it!

As soon as the studios, for whatever reason, decide to stop making the
    DVD format, people will change....

Thanks for the very kind words Dave. I've never heard such flattery
regarding my apes before. Your words of encouragement are very nice
    to hear. Thank you.

I just started talking to Chris Hight last week. I've never visited
this site before and he's the one that recruited me. He has brought
an excitement back to the apes, for many of us, over at Sideshow
    Collectors.

I just posted a few more pictures of my ape wagon, for those of you
who might be interested in seeing my custom toy.

There was a review on Citizen Kane on the IMDB
that cracked me up.  It started with the guy saying,
"This Is Not A Movie.  It didn't come with a tape.
I tried to put the CDs in my VCR, since I don't have
a CD player, and nothing happened."  I started to
think it was some old poop until I read his other
humorous reviews.  It's pretty funny stuff.  Old
Folks vs. New Tech is always very funny stuff.

That's my point. They WILL stop making standard  DVD players one of these days and we, the consumers will have NO choice but to get the 'new' machines and discs whether we want to or not.

How

Yes, I know how to mold the ape wagon sections. I'll take some
pictures to show you all the individual pieces involved. Almost
every piece of the wagon "snaps together" as I cut it with many
grooves and channels. I'll take some pictures and post them in the
PHOTO section here to show you what I mean. My biggest concern is
what kind of glue can be used to fuse the parts together?
Considering you resin is so cheap in price, experiment with that and
let me know what works best.

PS- the 1985 remake starring Sting somehow managed to even be worse than the original. That's no small feat. Then we had Branagh's pile of crap remake of the original in 1994, which actually found a way to be worse that the Dracula redo from 1992. Much like POTA, certain things simply shouldn't be done again.

With the sheer amount of material getting released on DVD- especially the DVD Season Box Sets- I'm surprised that all the genre series from the 70's are still only available as bootlegs. Fantastic Journey, Logan's Run, The Invisible Man, The Gemini Man, all the live action Marvel stuff (though I think The Incredible Hulk is coming out finally in proper Season Box Sets)- I'm sure I'm missing some here. Plus there's the stuff that lasted for several seasons like The Six Million Dollar Man and the The Bionic Woman. At least Wonder Woman is out John so you can enjoy every single moment of Linda Carter's superhuman assets in slow motion, over and over, backwards and forwards...

All the episodes of the Logan's Run TV series are available now on
iTunes and Amazon Unbox. While I'd prefer a proper DVD release, this
may be a good way for the studio to see if there's any interest
without the expense of a DVD release. Hopefully they'll test the
waters with some other shows as well.

I second that, Hunter. They weren't all classics but I get a kick out of watching them, too.

All three seasons of LOST IN SPACE have been available on DVD for a
      long time.

And I still enjoy them, dumb as many of them are.

Hunter, I tried to watch Lost In Space.Took me four months to get
through the first two seasons, over four months ago.I don't have the
      courage for season three...
But some shows are noticeably absent from release on DVD, like The Mod
Squad ( the series), or More seasons of McCloud/Macmillan & Wife/Kojak
all which have Apes actors appearing as guest artists. This was the
70's and many an actor from Planet, movies and series,Appeared as guest
artists on TV shows. I just watched an episode Of Ironside with James
Gregory (Ursus) as an old punch drunk boxer.
Anyone remember a Canadian show called The Beachcombers? This went for
more than 10 years and hasn't yet been released as a DVD set.

      Brendan.
