"I've been to that spot and didn't even realize it until I was
watching the movie some time later. The spot is called Horseshoe
Bend Overlook and is on an unmarked dirt road turnoff to the west a
few miles south of Page on U.S. Highway 89. If you look at Google
Earth the spot is marked and there are numerous photos of the site.
Also, when they were riding horses along the river before they
reached the beach site, that was filmed at Lee's Ferry Crossing a
few miles south of Horseshoe Bend.

Mike"

Thanks, Mike! I didn't know any of that. Very interesting.

The map he shows you is hard to read, but I've been to the spot where
the ship sinking was shot and swam there. It's at a site on the lake
known as "The Crossing of the Fathers."

I'm trying to figure out how one goes about posting those little bits
of info on Google Earth, as I could mark every spot the movie was
filmed at.

Thank you!  I listened to the prologue last night.  My husband didn't know what the heck was going on...what was making all that noise.  He thought I was watching tv with the volume turned up.  I was kind of embarassed when he walked in.  I said I was listening to something on the computer.

Oh my god! Thanks so much for this!

I'm sure this is the music that was performed as
"Planet of the Apes: Live" at the Woodbridge Center
Mall in New Jersey. That's what I remember it being
called, anyway -- if it was 1974 I would have been 4
years old.

My main memory of the event is that it was hosted by
someone in a chimp costume who sang a song with the
line, "There is a planet of the apes..." This *must*
be the same song that's on "A Musical Trip"! (I
haven't listened to all of it, but I've always
recalled the line "There is a planet of the apes"
rhyming with something about "every human quakes."

There must have been other songs, too, but I don't
remember them.

My only other memory of the show is that a gorilla (it
must have been Urko) appeared at some point, got angry
at "you humans!" -- the kids in the audience, all
sitting on the floor -- and runs from the stage into
the crowd of seated kids, making them scatter. I'm
sure I ran, too, but I remember the gorilla having his
back to me, and I tried to hit him with my fist! I
either missed or he just didn't even notice.

I wonder if they did a tour of malls in the NY/NJ area
... or maybe across the country?!?! Did anyone else
see "Planet of the Apes: Live" back then?

Thanks again,

-- Dave

I remember seeing it at a local movie theater on the day after Thanksgiving in 1974. It was advertised in the newspaper and I believe it was being performed at several movie theaters in New York that day.

He was also really good in 'Rock Star', which came out the same year as that which shall not be named. Boogie Nights too now that I think about it, though Heather Graham's full frontal nudity helped make it interesting as well...

I always figured that because of the circumstances (first thinking that the apes were from outer space, then finding out they were from the future), there was just a natural presumption by everyone that the apes had evolved (or developed differently).

Thanks Dave,

I've always liked the model of the ship sinking. One of the model sites, Monsters in Motion I think, use to sell the models pre-built and painted. I wish they still did because I stink at model building.

There is no story behind Dr. Zaius wearing sunglasses.  I just thought he would look cool and I think he does.  I just liked the angle of the shot, and it looks like he is having fun while mugging for the camera.  I have been keeping a diary of sorts of how I put the Mego costumes together, since I do spend so much time creating them.   I need to take a nice portrait of Dr. Zaius wearing the costume I made so I can put it on my blog.

I have been busy updating my blog of my Mego custom adventures.  I am currently trying to create a saddle from scratch, and was working on that last night.  I got the horse off of Ebay and I need to set my ape soldier on it.   They sell stuff like that I am sure, but hey why not make it if you can?  So I am trying!   I have photos on my blog if you are interested to see what I have been up to.  It used to be just about knitting, but sewing is so much more instant gratification, and I truly am such a nut about Planet of the Apes.  I am also wearing my chimp sweater again today.  There's a photo of that on my blog, too.

Jessica.

Hey, I just saw your note, Rich - (and Dave's and Goob's, too:) - a 'me

site now and again, so thank you:)

Some of you guys were talking about Mark Wahlburg - didn't any of you
like him in "Invincible" (about Vince Papale and the Philly Eagles)- I
thought he was wonderful, very understated, but everything he needed to
show us came through clearly. I think it's pretty clear in his case
that it was the directing and not the capabilities of the actor that
gave us so much less re: his Leo role.

John, that is a very unselfish ultimate gift!  I like it!

For me, it would be a complete makeover by Apemania so I can live out my fantasies...and it would be swell too if my husband could play his part for some good hot monkey love, but that would never happen.

Just to clarify things, Frank Capra SENIOR was the director of "It's a
wonderful life" and he had nothing to do with POTA. It was Frank Capra
Jr. (his son) that was associate producer of Escape, Conquest and
    Battle.

I think so here are mixing up the two.

A couple years back, someone had wondered about the possibility of taking
the POTA View Master set (and I beleive there was a talking version as
well) and reproducing it online, but couldn't figure out the logistics.
    Apparently, both can be done:

    http://members.verizon.net/~vze34fnk/pages/gijoe-viewmaster/gijoe-viewmasters.htm

Sometimes you might have to click 'Refresh' to get the pages to load
correctly, but everything is on the site. Thsi was always my favorite
View Master set, and I always enjoyued the way they combinded the
background photography with the foreground sets and action figures.

While at a Flea Market recently, I came across one of the POTA steel
wastebaskets from the 70's that was in fairly good shape considering it's
age. So I picked that up, along with 7 packs of unopened Space: 1999
cards, a wrapper from a 1968 Topps POTA pack, and one of the Inkworks
promotional cards (P1) for the POTA Archives set (the one with Caesar)
all for $30. Not a bad deal.

Found this site listing all the cards in case anyone's interested:

    http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/allender/potaarc.htm

BTW, wasn't one of the promo cards supposed to be a shot from BENEATH

listed at the bottom of the page.

I forgot to mention about the website- it doesn't always load up
completely (or at all for that matter) the first time you go there and/or
click on an HTML, but if you hit the refresh button that seems to take
    care of everything.

Now all we need to do is find the guy who has the prototype BENEATH reels
and we 'd be in pretty good shape... :-)

Hey folks! The new guy in the group, Jeff, has sent me images of stuff
I've never seen before, not just MAD parodies but bubble gum card sets
from THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. and THE RAT PATROL (If you want to see
what Eric "Dr. Hasslien" Braeden [AKA Hans Gudegast] looked like on the
show I'll bet he'll post it). This guy has amassed quite a collection.
It's great he's got so much scanned. I'd like to thank him here for
    sending me things so quickly.
