.htmlHunter, if only you knew....admittedly I am rather freaky! I have black hair, and when the hair would fall on the back of my hands and knuckles--I was a real chimp for sure!
;)
Ok. here's another freaky thing I do. I always wear ape green socks in my boots whenever I can, even in the heat of summer. Well, it rarely ever gets that hot in the Bay Area. In fact, my sister in law thought I never changed my socks because she never saw me wear anything but ape green socks. Sometimes I would wear black socks but 90% of the time, mostly ape green socks.
And, for years, I carried photos of Zira and Cornelius in my daytimer--much like you would carry photos of your family.
Anybody else in this group do freaky stuff like that?
Jessica.

I'd Write Bad Checks to buy more Modeling Crap and so on..So when I

bout helping me obtain one of those Kick Butt "Ape Dossier" That is
awsome! I still collect SOME Movie Memrobila Such as One-Sheets,Press

This is off-topic, but you asked. I've carried a picture of a Yoda
doll in my wallet for 26 years now, always in the first photo slot
(much to the amusement of people who want to see my kids' pictures).
It's a long story, but suffice it to say that some friends and I had
this Yoda thing in high school (while "Empire Strikes Back" was still
in theaters)---we bought T-shirts with Yoda pictures on the front and
back, we wore the little Yoda dolls on chains around our necks.... It
was stupid fun that made people look at us funny, which was the whole
point.
Anyway, my friend Jerome made various clothes for his Yoda doll. My
favorite was a scuba-diving outfit made from an innertube. He also
made a disco outfit out of some shimmery white cloth. One of the
yearbook photographers took a photo of Jerome's doll in the disco
outfit, and that photo made it into the yearbook that year as a
full-page image.
A handful of us started carrying that photo in our wallets, and Jerome
decreed that whoever was still carrying that photo in his wallet when
Jerome died would inherit $10,000. Naturally, I decided I'd carry it
always.
Sadly, Jerome died a few weeks ago at age 44. No inheritance, of
course, but I now continue to keep that photo in my wallet in memory
of him.
Of the half dozen of us who carried them, I'm the only one who still
has the original photo (which I finally laminated a couple of years
ago to keep it from falling completely apart) in his wallet.

Hunter, if only you knew....admittedly I am rather freaky!
Jessica.

where the large outdoor cage was in the original movie (I now suspect
the cage was moved to a different spot in BENEATH). If you look at the
hilltop you'll see a strip of just grass near the crest. You can see
this same spot in the background of certain shots during the cage
sequence in PLANET -- forty years ago, of course. I also think I can
see a little of "Century Lake" in the lower right.
By the way, that same "half-bald" hilltop can be spotted in the
background of the hunt sequence in the cornfield, as can the tops of
the "goat buttes" that are in front of the Ape City set.
As far as this year's Malibu fires... I don't think any were in the
park. Of course, even if there were a fire there, the trees and
vegetation would grow back.

As soon as I heard that I planned a new POTA film: TERROR ON THE PLANET OF THE APES, starring yours truly and a girl I had the hots for. We were gonna be humans; my other friends would be apes and mutants. It was supposed to take place right after BATTLE but featuring all new characters. I wrote a script, made a movie poster, ran rehearsals etc. I thought the make-up kit would be something sophisticated but when it came out and I saw it was the plastic Ben Cooper Halloween mask MINUS its lower jaw with a set of glow in the dark vampire fangs instead that was the tragic end of my film. AND I never got the girl.

.html Bruce, that story of your "Terror" fan film is hilarious. I guess
the real terror is that you never got the girl.
Hunter, that was a very endearing story about your Yoda photo. Along
those same lines...When I was in high school, back in the mid 1980s,
two friends and I used to joke around about this tiny old lady who
spent all day walking (slowly) around the cafeteria, picking up
napkins from the floor, refilling napkin dispensers and handing out
napkins to students who needed them. (I'm pretty sure she did more
than that, but her constant focus on napkins is what caught our
eye.) We started calling her--naturally--the Napkin Lady. One day,
my friend Ivy came into school with a camera and snapped some photos
of the Napkin Lady, then made three ID cards for me, Ivy and our
friend Rob. The cards proclaimed us as official members of the
Napkin Lady Fan Club and had her headshot in the upper corner. I
think I still have that somewhere, and it's been 21 years since I graduated! <.html

.html Hello everyone and happy Friday!!
I am currently working on an outfit for Dr. Zaius for a mego 8" doll.
I have just noticed while using www.apemania.com as a reference that
there are two seams on the front of the male chimp pants and the
orangutan pants. Human pants usually only have two seams per leg...
Does anybody have a real outfit and if you do, can you take a peek at
it and see if there are two seams on the rear side of the pants as
well? I am curious to see the rear side of the pants now. It doesn't
make sense to not have two additional seams on the back.
If you are interested in seeing what I have done so far with his outfit
you can peek at my blog:

.htmlYeah, figuring out where the cage was is kind of hard. From what I can
see in the film, the Malibu Creek runs just below it because you can
see it behind Cornelius when he is walking up to where he meets Zira.
But the buttes in front of Ape City are in the background when they
kiss which makes me think the cage was atop a hill a little further
north along Century Lake, up from the Ape City set. Someday I hope to
get out there and see it myself, but I have no idea when that'll ever
happen.
By the way, the river bank where the gorilla army trains in BENEATH
looks to me to be along the northern part of Century Lake. The whole
sandy area now appears to be overgrown with bushes. Another thing....
About "Century Lake," the body of water in front of Ape City. It's
actually a small reservoir created by a dam on the Malibu Creek (up the
creek from where the Rock Pool is). The top of it is actually in
PLANET when some of the chimps start throwing fruit at Taylor and he
turns and runs in front of the lake. But you can't actually see the
dam itself because it's camouflaged with foliage. It's simply in that
space at water's edge between the two buttes. The Rock Pool can be
seen on Google Earth by following the Malibu Creek from below the
Century Dam, around the butte to the other side. You can miss the
three large bolders in the pool. Of course, anyone who's been there
knows all this. I'm just telling what I think I've been able to figure
out.

HEy Rory....I know where that plateau is ...it's on the trail up to Ape
City but I'm pretty sure that's not where the cage was.....the
background is the same...but I think the cage was on a higher hill
across and behind this one....this plateau does have some remains of
some structure but it is not big enough for the cage and area around it
...nor is there a drop down where Zira's office was ....Z&C came up
some "stairs" to get to the cage....if you step off this plateau you
will plummet very far....
Creber said the cage was in a different location from APe City but
still in the park.....something for the next trip....!
I know that the fires were very close to Pepperdine University and you
turn there at the school to go up the winding road to Malibu Creek
State Park......but that park is a few ridges over so maybe the flames
didn't get that far.....
Haristas@... wrote: Here's a shot I found

the

this same spot in the background of certain shots during the cage
sequence in PLANET -- forty years ago, of course. I also think I can
see a little of "Century Lake" in the lower right.
By the way, that same "half-bald" hilltop can be spotted in the
background of the hunt sequence in the cornfield, as can the tops of
the "goat
buttes" that are in front of the Ape City set.
As far as this year's Malibu fires... I don't think any were in the
park. Of course, even if there were a fire there, the trees and
vegetation would grow back.

Has anyone here been on Google Earth lately? They give you a
pretty
good look at the Malibu area now and someone has posted where the Ape

under "Layers" in the lower left corner click on "Gallery" and type in
Ape City above in "Fly To" it'll take you right to the spot. I can
now
see clearly where not just Ape City was, but the Rock Pool and the

Temple. I'm sure Jeff Krueger can verify this.

Questions from both Rory and Zach:
>>In BENEATH, how did Nova know where Zira and Cornelius' house
was? Wouldn't it have made more sense if Brent and Nova, concealed in the
hillside brush, had just watched into what house Zira and Cornelius had
gone, then climbed in through a back window? <<
>>Did Taylor teach Nova how to ride a horse? Because she certainly
was keeping up with Brent pretty good during that chase through the forest
near the entrance to the subway station's ruins. <<
Given that we really don't know how much time elapsed between the first and
second films, you could answer both questions in any number of ways. Neither
situation is that much of a stretch.
>>I probably have asked this before too, but how the heck could Brent
and Nova entered the "Queensboro Plaza" subway station...walked a short
distance down the tracks, entered a cave-like area...eventually found a
ladder that they climbed into another tunnel...and came out in front of the
42nd Street Public Library (when these two NYC landmarks are miles from each
other)? <<
Well, we really don't know how long they were walking for.
>>And then, even worse, walking past the remains of the New York
Stock Exchange, which is in the southern part of the city? The
Library--Radio City--St. Patrick's Cathedral--and the Grand Central Station
scenes made more sense because they are closer together. <<
Again, we really don't know how long they were walking for. Also, if you're
going to accept the fact that buildings survived intact while sinking
underground and then ground formed over them, it's entirely possibly that the
buildings didn't fall in the exact same location below that they were
above.
It's worth noting though that with the exception of the Stock Exchange, all
the other landmarks shown (The New York Public Library, Radio City Music Hall,
St. Patrick's Cathedral, Grand Central Station) are all within actually
proximity of each other. I don't know if we have William Creber to thank for
that since he's the one who sent people out to take the photos that were used
for the matte shots.
>>Was Mendez XXVI wearing some sort of a bulletproof vest or
something? Because when Ursus' guards shot him, he didn't bleed! However,
earlier, when Ongaro (the Negro) met his fate on those spikes in the door of
that cell, you could clearly see bloody holes in his robes where he had been
impaled! <<
If he was, he could've gone up to the control panel, said "So Be It', and
fired the bomb himself... :-)
>>What was in that object lying on the floor that Albina used to
commit suicide?<<
Empty vial of poison. Watch Zaius' reaction when he smells it.

Well all the people you mention have something in common that precluded
them from being included since people that have this in common usually
don't celebrate their birthdays anymore.

Dave's Laser Place (I think that's what it was called -- anyway, it's
out of business now) was THE place to go in LA to get laserdiscs in the
'90s. Every so often they would have an executive from one of the
video companies at the store to answer questions from the fanatical
collectors. Those were called "Studio Days."
The store wasn't far from where Roddy McDowall lived and he was a
well-known regular customer.

Here's another: the sound of the alarm that goes off in BATTLE when Caesar,
Virgil, and MacDonald walk past the security device (when Alma says "F6!
F6!!"): the Batphone.
Actually, I was watching Batman this past Friday night on the American
Life TV Network (the episode 'A Death Worse Than Fate') and a lot of the
consoles in the back room of Ekdal's Gnome Bookstore (yes, I looked
that up online) seemed familiar like they were used in BATTLE as well, but
I'm not 100% sure.
And that's more minutiae about BATTLE than probably some of you even care
to read. :-)

I recently watched Walhberg in both 'The Departed' and 'Shooter' and I
thought he was actually pretty good in both. I'm not going to rush out
and celebrate his birthday but I am now willing to cut him some slack
regarding his performance in Apes '01 - maybe he just didn't have the
material or director to work with?

studios there all day, and you could ask them anything, there were
laserdisc drawings and givaways, inside info about upcoming
releases... You felt like you were in an elite group of film purists,
before everyone was "in the know" with dvd special features.... The
execs would get to know you, and remember you each year... Some would
duck me because every year it was the same questions.... When is
Battle POTA going to be released?... How could you replace the Paul
Anka song in Jaws!?!.... Will Heroes (Henry Winkler, Harrison Ford)
ever be released, and if you do, don't replace the Kansas song... Why
isn't the Batman (Burton) trailer on the disc, it's better than the
movie...etc.... When laserdiscs died, a part of me died....

I think I watched "the Deception" 4 times this week. I didn't know that Roddy cried real tears! How do the actors do that? I was surprised to see it after about the third time I watched it. I had never noticed it before. He's such a great actor. I remembered from childhood that this was one of my favorite episodes. I can still watch it a couple more hundred times and I won't get sick of it.
My 3-year old has gone ape, and insisted on watching it this morning. Of course, how could you refuse such a request? It was an honor to press "play" again and again and again...

That's a good point, Bruce and it would certainly be true of a
'primitive' ape.
I've always been torn between;
1: Are the apes we see in POTA supposed to be the same as the ones we
know today (other than having the power of speech) That's certainly
true of the Boulle novel
OR
2: Have the apes we see in POTA both mentally and physically evolved
from those we have today. Dan Striepeke states that the brief was to
design an 'evolved species of ape'.
If the latter then maybe, just like in humans, their sense of smell,
once vital to survival, has become dull with a lack of use?
It's ironic then to think that, had the planet not blown up, the apes
may have eventually evolved into the one thing they despised the
most... Us!

There was an ad campaign at the time where the slogan was "New York is a Summer Festival" . I do not know if the artwork was from that campaign. The artwork I used was created in Photoshop based on what was visible from source material from screen caps and publicity photos from the film

for the increase in both the size and intelligence of the apes:
1) Genetic engineering
2) Effects of the plague
3) Caesar dreaming changes into existence
I tend to see it as a result of all three.

That's where they shot the "Where does this river lead to?" scene. I

watching the movie some time later. The spot is called Horseshoe
Bend Overlook and is on an unmarked dirt road turnoff to the west a
few miles south of Page on U.S. Highway 89. If you look at Google
Earth the spot is marked and there are numerous photos of the site.
Also, when they were riding horses along the river before they
reached the beach site, that was filmed at Lee's Ferry Crossing a
few miles south of Horseshoe Bend.
