To all the POTA experts do you think theres a chance we will ever see a new Ape

where Battle left off or a different timeline. The Burton movie did nothing for
me. Any talk of any sort of Ape film at all?
Also why wouldn't a new POTA movie or tv show be made,

And someone told me re-issue's of the old mego POTA toys might

Same old same old. No news on a new "Apes".
Burton's film and it's reputation buried it. It is possible to revive it and be
successful (it's called "making a good movie") but Fox doesn't want to bother.
They're in the burying franchises business (*cough* "Alien vs. Predator 2

You guys know what? POTA would be a great mini-series if they gave it the EPIC treatment. Lets see the lead up to the mission, base it in the 60's space-age where ANSA(rather than NASA) goes the route of space planes rather than capsules. Lets get to know the astronauts before they get so unceremoniously offed on the POTA. That way we can feel the tragedy of their loss more. And...dont kill em off after BTPOTA. Send the 2 astros and Nova on an Odyssey through the planet back to Cape Kennedy to figure out whats happened. Adventures galore!

hello to all,
I agree that a new apes movie could be successful
if done properly. I would cautiously suggest a remake rather a reimagining
(although how does one improve on a classic like the original?). I still
say also, that in spite of the superb makeups provided by Rick Baker, that any
future apes movies should get back to the basic of using the original John
Chambers makeups. The makeup is really what made the apes movies what they
are (including garnering an academy award). Also, the budget needs to be
large enough to support proper makeup for all the apes, including the apes used
in crowd scenes-no over-the-head masks with gaping holes around the eyes.
would be curious if anyone agrees with

Big thumbs up on using the original John Chambers makeup. I recently saw a documentary on early man. The makeup resembled the original POTA makeup. Very dramatic, very effective...and yes a remake is the only way to go.Just giving it a big treatment and a serious treatment is the ticket. How about a bunch of us freaks head to lake powell for a fan film...30 minutes long. Any crazies out there like us?

I totally agree-the original cannot really be improved. If you were to do a story, then it should not be a reimagination at all--it should be a continuation, with all the bells and whistles. The makeup needs to go back to the success by the original John Chambers makeup. The newer makeup by Rick Baker is somewhat disturbing to me--I don't find them the least bit attractive. Everything you said is so true to me. Thank you for saying it.
Jessica.

I'm glad the format war looks to be over, but I wouldn't hold my breath
waiting to see PLANET OF THE APES or any of its sequels on Blu-ray
soon. Sales of DVDs are down and the Blu-ray format isn't exactly
taking off like a rocket. The argument may go that consumers have been
waiting for the format war to be settled before they really starting
getting into high-definition, but I sense most people don't think
hi-def is that big an improvement and aren't ready to scrape regular
DVDs just yet, especially if they have big collections. Also, it looks
like the economy is going into recession, so I expect sales of Blu-ray
DVD players and software to be soft for a while, hence I don't think
the studios are going to be in that big a rush to get their older
library titles out, especially since remastering is going to be
necessary. I'd be pissed if Fox took the PLANET 35th Anniversary DVD
transfer and just up scaled it to hi-def. What we have right now isn't
a true restoration. I've read the film was archivally restored
recently. I'd like to see the results of that with added digital
cleanup. Anyway, I think by "substandard version" you mean a Blu-ray
release that's just the movie, its trailer and little else. Well,
write Fox and tell them that when they do get around to releasing APES
on Blu-ray, you want special editions with "all the trimmings." It
can't hurt and may help, but I wouldn't add that you want it sooner
rather than later, that'll probably only insure that we will get
something "substandard." Tell them what you want, but tell them to
take their time and do it right.
Even though this is now the 40th anniversary of PLANET, I wouldn't mind
if a Blu-ray DVD of it doesn't come out until the end of the year or
even next year.
As for a "way to lobby Fox".... I think letters work best, especially
if you send several, but I guess emails and on-line petitions do
something too. I don't think there's a chance of separate special
editions of each of the sequels. The best you can hope for is a box
set of all five films with a new set of featurettes and perhaps
commentary tracks for each film. Personally, I'd rather hope for a new
40th Anniversary special edition of the classic original, then worry
about the sequels later.

Yeah, it's too soon for a new "Apes" DVD. If
they do it they'll just put the first movie out on Blu-Ray. Though I heard from
a fan who put the standard DVD in their Blu-ray machine that the picture looked
much better than it did in a standard DVD player.
As for Blu-Ray taking off, don't count on
it. Standard DVD is the new VHS and will be around a while. All the people that
got burned on HD-DVD is not a good example for customer confidence.

Maybe you can now stop being so bugged, Jessica. This is how I've
always seen it: Cornelius was supposed to meet with Dr. Zaius, perhaps
at Zaius' office or someplace else, but Zira dropped by Cornelius'
office with Taylor on lease and the incredible discovery that a man can
write. This probably made Cornelius forget that he had a meeting with
Zaius, at least temporarily. Meanwhile you have to remember that Zaius
has "something bothering him" (Zira's words), which is in fact that
Zaius knows that the kind of man he's feared all his life would emerge
has at last showed up, and he's kind of freaking out and paranoid. He
probably has Zira under surveillance and so when she suddenly takes
Taylor to Cornelius' office, Zaius gets Dr. Maximus and heads right
over there to put a stop to whatever is going on. Also, remember that
the very next thing Dr. Zaius does is order the vet to geld Taylor.
Zaius knows he's got to put a lid on the situation right away.

To be perfectly honest with all of you...I would disregard most of what happened after part 2...it was all sort of rushed cheesy sequel stuff put together for a fast buck. I think that the best way to go would be that the world ends due to good old fashion human on human fighting, and that a set of genetically engineered apes escapes captivity (lab) to form a new society. Humans are almost all wiped out by diseases after the war. The apes are immune and while they ar able to co-habitate for a while with humans, they develop their own anti tech faith...sort of a Taliban type mentality and decide that the humans should not be allowed to speak...an ape "scientist" genetically engineers humans to not be able to speak. All othe humans are killed....like the Nazis and Commies in China did to the non party line towing folks. I always thought that going further in the tradition of classic science fiction and Rod Serlings stories in particular was the way to go.
That the apes ascension should be a warning about our potential for self destruction, religious fanaticism, and nazi/communinist totalitarian government. Whta ya guys think?

I'm saying standard DVD is the new VHS, the
meat and potatoes. Just as few got into S-VHS I don't see people getting
into HD in droves. The popularity of DVD caught the bean counters off guard.
Just as we had Beta vs. VHS and VHS became the standard for a long time, it's
rare when something becomes a standard. Laser discs too, those stayed with the
techies. The improved picture of HD is cool but I don't think it's enough to get
Joe Sixpack, who just started standard DVD, to convert. Jeff

There is a very good Planet Of The Apes feature (focusing on the TV
series) in a current issue of SFX magazine. It's a Retro special of
the magazine, featuring classic sci fi TV shows, it has Hulk, the
Bionics, Knight Rider in it etc.
Worth buying for the Apes feature alone.
A must have if you're into retro sci fi TV!
I bought mine yesterday at WH wmith (here in the UK)so it's still

Beneath does go down a bit...very true. But Escape seals the fate of the boys and Nova.
I would rather change it so that Zaius escapes with some apes from the citadel of mutants....and tells the ficticious story of Taylor and Brent dying to the council. The citadel burns up as the rocket takes off killing most of the soldier apes, and keeps going into space...its old and it malfunctions!
The boys(though injured) and a pregnant Nova escape throught the tunnels...and only Zaius sees them. Taylor sees Zaius riding off with a few surviving soldier gorillas.
My sequel tells the oddysey through the POTA down the eastern shoreline toward a base...maybe Cape Kennedy. Zaius contacts another Ape General...and sends him on a secret mission through The Forbidden Zone to find and eliminate the talking humans. Remember I'm thinking of the Science Council as a sort of Taliban that know the secret of how the ape society came about...and they dont want anything getting out.
I'm also working(slowly) on a prequel called "Mission To Orion" about the astrosauts and events leading up to the mission. A period piece that incorporates alot of the leading events during that historical period. I will post excerpts here soon.

nothing about man's past superiority. Then, in "Escape", they both
seems to know the entire history of man's superiority and downfall.
They make it sound as if it was taught to all ape school children.
This makes Dr. Zaius' "keeper of the faith" secrets a bit
unnecessary. A bit of a continuity error, but just an observation on
my part.
Another question I have is for "Battle". If Caesar is the same ape
from "Conquest", how did all apes acquire speech and a culture in
just a few years? Remember, Virgil seems to be a genius who
knows "everything about everything". How did he gain all this
knowledge in such a short span of years? I first thought that Caesar
was a descendant of the original Caesar (Milo), but then MacDonald
states that his brother was the man who aided Caesar in "Conquest",
so this has to be only a few years in the future. Quite a big
evolutionary leap for such a short period.

That's a terrible theory. Taylor "goes into the future" before the
three apeonauts arrive in ESCAPE, so his flight is never affected by
anything in the last three films. In fact, the events of Taylor's
life, his timeline, are over and done with by the beginning of ESCAPE.

That's one of the reasons why BATTLE stinks. The producers had painted
themselves into a corner and didn't have the kind of budget they needed
for a script that would be better than it was, which is just slightly
superior to a segment of the "Banana Splits."

is really making the rounds! I hope we hear from more fans around the
globe.

.html Greetings, everyone. A note on the digital trading cards. You will
note that they are designated as "Silver", "Platinum" or "Gold".
The "Silver" cards are simply static cards, which can be flipped to
read the description on the back. The "Platinum" cards have a small
amount of animation, and the "Gold" cards have the most animation
added. Click the center of the "Platinum" and "Gold" cards to start
the animations. Click the curly icons in the corners to either replay
the animations or flip the cards. A note -- they look best and are
easiest to read in full screen mode. I hope you enjoy them! Simian
Smiles to all!

I think the point is that we see ape and
human children (children are the future) together but the Caesar statue cries
because it can't stay that way (even the children fight). As we know from our
own times, we're screwed. Jeff
P.S. I never bought the "tear of joy"
argument; un"Apes-like.

In the ending with Battle, "we may never know" will always be a
mystery, but we see the apes and children treated as equals, why then
would the Earth be destroyed. My thinking is when Taylor and his crew
do go into the future, they will know what has happened to the Earth,
they will learn the history of how Ape society was created. There will
be no need to go into the Forbidden Zone, he will not meet the mutants
and he will no see the Statue of Liberty and there will be no need to
use the bomb. But that is my
theory. toodles..... ....

The problem was "the boys" included Charlton
Heston, who didn't want to come back.
Would they have been better off recasting
Taylor for the sequels? Part of the reason they went the way they did was having
Heston return made it "classier". But there's plenty of examples of sequels
where the main character was recast. True, Roddy was recast in "Beneath" but who
knew? :) Jeff

Planet of the Apes
Beneath does go down a bit...very true. But Escape seals the fate of the
boys and Nova.
I would rather change it so that Zaius escapes with some apes from the
citadel of mutants....and tells the ficticious story of Taylor and Brent
dying to the council. The citadel burns up as the rocket takes off killing
most of the soldier apes, and keeps going into space...its old and it
malfunctions!
The boys(though injured) and a pregnant Nova escape throught the
tunnels...and only Zaius sees them. Taylor sees Zaius riding off with a few
surviving soldier gorillas.
My sequel tells the oddysey through the POTA down the eastern shoreline
toward a base...maybe Cape Kennedy. Zaius contacts another Ape General...and
sends him on a secret mission through The Forbidden Zone to find and
eliminate the talking humans. Remember I'm thinking of the Science
Council as a sort of Taliban that know the secret of how the ape society came
about...and they dont want anything getting out.
I'm also working(slowly) on a prequel called "Mission To Orion"
about the astrosauts and events leading up to the mission. A
period piece that incorporates alot of the leading events during that
historical period. I will post excerpts here soon.

.htmlAlso, all the hatches and windows were blown out of the Icarus when
it crashed into the inland sea in "Planet", so how did the chimps
recover, repair (with the waterlogged electronics), and then re-
launch the ship in "Escape"?
And also, in "Planet" the year is established as 3978, but after that
the mythology lists the year as being 3955. Boy, we can nitpick,
can't we? LOL It's a good thing they didn't have regular continuity
checkers back then, or we would be flooding him with hate mail. LOL

.htmlIn "Battle", Virgil uses the same highway with multiple lanes example
to explain time travel that was used by Dr. Hasslein in "Escape". If
Hasslein knew a dreaded ape was using his example, he would roll over
in his grave. LOL Also, how would Virgil know about cars and
highways, anyway? I'm sorry. My "nitpicking knob" was turned up too
high again. I hate when that happens.

Let's have a survey here... Who actually believes "we're screwed"? Are
these the end times for mankind, or will we somehow muddle through the
mess we've made and things will get better? Of course, eventually our
species will go extinct, but will that be tomorrow or eons from now?

APES just wasn't APES once Heston was gone. The big kick in the first
film was seeing Heston get his butt kicked.

Jeff I agree. I didnt realize Roddy had been recast until I saw the film this year. The other actor did a great job. Im talking more along the lines of remake as per a mini series or an epic treatment of the story.
