At any rate, both of these breakfast cereals- while still in production-
are only available in certain markets in the U.S. And apparently the
Northeastern States aren't among them. So if any of you members down
South, out in the Midwest, or simply out West happen to see either of
these at your next trip to the grocery store, could you contact me at the
above e-mail address?

Kaboom! is still sold here in KY. My mom bought us a box way back
when ('72? '73?) That was the nastiest cereal I've ever tasted in my
life!
Seems like I've seen King Vitamin on the shelves around here, too, but
I wouldn't swear to it.

"King Vitaman, have breakfast with the King..." I remember the jingle.
Never tried the cereal.

This rumor is unfounded, as everyone on the Mego Museum boards who actually sell the figures, etc. say that they are indeed "on" as it were and will go ahead as scheduled.

I mean the last time I bid on originals on eBay, they usually sold in the $50-$75 range, not a "bottomed out" price if you ask me. Anyway, if someones interest in APES is monetary that's too bad, and besides that, collectibles markets fluctuate just like any other. I do agree with you though that "follow-up" figures would be the way to go, but don't count on it right away. There's that, and as you said, all the references over the years, they didn't help either. Take that SIMPSONS episode with the APES musical for example, there's another way the ending was given away. fact that I left off a Sonny & Cher spoof that Tim had sent me, so I'm
already thinking about a possible 3rd DVD. However, I don't really
have much besides that spoof and a whole bunch of different trailers,
some of which have appeared on the commercial releases (and the rest I
just find kind of boring).
Because I'm already walking a copyright tightrope, I will not include
things that are available commercially (the "Spaceballs", "Simpsons",
etc, spoofs, for example). But if you have anything else (convention
footage, other TV show references, etc.), please let me know!
Thanks.

I think I talked about this once before here so my apologies to those who
already heard this...I have an original Aurora Lost in Space 1966-67 model
unbuilt in the box. Before Polar Lights re-released it I could have gotten as
much as $700 for it had I ever chosen to sell it (which I never would). After
that, the originals like mine sell on ebay for much less.
On the other hand, it was a nice opportunity for fans like myself to
purchase (or in my case, re-purchase 30 years later) these kits at an
unexpensive price and see the new ones PL also released, like the Mummy and the
3 Stooges. So although the price dropped on my originals, I'm not all that
upset.
Speaking of Ricardo, an Armando figure would be cool to see in Mego
size...maybe a Breck and Kolp...the Lawgiver...Virgil...the list is
endless.

The company that released the Mad Monsters (and a few other lines like The Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Married With Children, etc.) was a company called CTVT aka Classic Television Toys. The EMCE stuff is a lot more durable and better made then the CTVT stuff, but it's still okay.

The Megos were great for their time and are deservedly remembered with
great affection, but if such a series of figures were to be released
I'd much rather they were made by Medicom.
And while I have my head in the clouds it would be cool to see what

<<
Thanks Helen!! I'll get in touch and check them out. Ditto for

Try the Grand Union version of Lucky Charms if you want to taste nasty
cereal...
>>"King Vitaman, have breakfast with the King..." I remember the

That was a later jingle too. Originally there were a series of Jay Ward
commercials that promoted it, and you can see a few of them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IBDuGdbdC8 (you
see the "live" King at the very beginning of the clip). I remember
the live action King and the jingle pretty clearly, but not the animated
commercials so much. Weird.
It was similar to Cap'n Crunch, but sweetened differently. Definitely
not a clone though.
>>Man, those two bring back memories. LOL I even have a "Quisp"

Any chance you'd post it to You Tube? I'd be curious to see it.
>>Goodness! I haven't heard about Kaboom or King Vitaman cereals in
years. I remember both very well, I know that I'd eaten those products way
back when. <<
I think that if a lot of these forgotten about or long discontinued
cereals were either brought back, given better distribution, or switched back to
the original recipe (i.e. the Monster Cereals), stores wouldn't be able to keep
them on the shelves.
>>What about Quisp & Quake
<<
>>I remember the toys. A flying saucer from
Quisp and a miners helmet from Quake. <<
Quisp is still in production, but also suffers from
limited distribution. I remember how the two were always at each other in the
commercials. For all the cereals I ate, we never had those two for some
reason. I was always partial to the cereals that had the marshmallow bit (Count
Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo Berry, Fruit Brute, Fruity Yummy
Mummy, Baron Von Redberry, Sir Grapefellow.
Hell, I remember Lucky Charms when they only had FOUR different shapes: pink
hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, and green clovers.

I used to (like, when I was 10, 12) think they looked exactly alike,

I'll take a copy of Simian Scrolls. Do you have an address I can send a check too?

What, is John smuggling dope in the pages? But never mind.
Cost is $6, that includes shipping, and write me at valwp@yahoo. com
for my address so you can pay me. I don't take paypal, but I
do take
checks, money orders and carefully concealed cash, though I can't be
responsible if some friendly person RIPS the money right out of the
envelope or something.
I ship on Mondays, so if your payment hits me late Monday or Tuesday
it'll be a few days before you receive your copy.
Thanks and yay, Scrolls are here!

.htmlHello Group,
When I joined a few days ago it said it might be nice to introduce
ourselves as a new member, so I figured I would take the opportunity
to do that now.
I was hooked on Apes since the first time my dad showed it to me as a
little kid. This was in the late eighties and sci-fi had
become "bigger and better," but there was just something about those
apes for me. I thought the makeup was amazing and the story really
drew me in, even back then. I'm a sucker for a great story and it's
so much better if the story withstands multiple readings--on multiple
levels--which the Apes movies certain doparticularly the original.
(And the connection to Serling is an added bonus in my book.)
I have also been a collector of Apes items for more than a decade;
mostly in the arena of toys, but I have just recently started to deal
in paper items as well. I had been a solitary collector to this
point, but over time I have acquired a few items that baffled me
(most of which are likely bootlegs). I figured I might also take
this opportunity to see if any of you could tell me about one
particular figure. (I posted a link below to the image.) Here is what
I knowI bought it about ten years ago from a big collector in PA,
the figure is 3 ½ inches high, made of plastic, and of General Ursus.
What I would like to know is anything else you can tell me. Where was
it made? When was it made? Who was it made by? Where there other
figures in the line? Where they licensed?
Thanks for you help in advance.

.htmlGreetings, everyone. I have discovered a free space flight simulator
called "Orbiter", which is very realistic and absolutely cool! Besides
having replicas of actual NASA spacecraft, there are add-on modules for
spacecraft from the world of sci-fi, such as Battlestar Galactica, Star
Trek, Space: 1999, etc. What will be of interest to the folks here is
that there are two Icarus replicas, as well. I have included the link
to the home page, where you can download the program for free. In the
menu on the left, click "Related Sites", and then choose the first
site, "Orbit Hangar Mods". There are a LOT of mods there, so just do a
search for "Icarus" and it will produce the two replicas. I hope some
of you find it as cool as I did. Enjoy, and Simian Smiles to all!

.htmlHey all. I recently was asked about art from my work on Revolution on
Planet of the Apes, and have started to scan and post the pages as is,
vs photoshoped and cleaned up for print so that the inquirer's could
have a look at them and get back to me about buying some. So far i
don't know if they are going to go for any, but i thought you guys
might like to see them and maybe even bid on one? at any rate I'll be
leaving these up and add more as i dig them up. Been pretty busy since
i did this so the art has gotten a bit buried.
So, here's the raw art - the scans are even a bit lighter than real
life, so the light gray in the blacks are somewhat exaggerated.
http://picasaweb.google.com/salgood/ROPOTA
And here for contrast is the way the work looked when i sent them off
to Mr Comics.

Was a fun book to do, too bad Mr Comics couldn't hang on to the rights
for a bit longer, would have liked to do more Apes stories.

he's a mortal Ape, passing on the tales and lore of Apedom stretching
back to Caesar. The children call him 'Lawgiver' and the fact that
he's speaking to a gathering of children suggests he's more of a
teacher than a living god. That his status became more esteemed with
the passage of time is similar to, say, Abraham or David in the Old
Testament. All this still leaves open the question as to who or what
the Lawgiver was a prophet of, of course.John, Scrolls.

.htmlI'm in North Carolina, too. I love it here! After spending many
years in Virginia, this is a big improvement. I hated Virginia, and
am glad to be back in my family's home state. It's nice to know
there are other Apes-lovers in North Carolina besides me. Hairy Tar
Heels! LOL

want to live anymore.? It's too crowed, expensive, and now every year
you live in dread of hurricanes.? I just have to get used to it here
now.
