Actually, I always thought that was the whole point. Once given the
power of speech and the ability to progress the apes were set on the
same path they thought to avoid becoming more like man.
It's the test for higher beings seeking to leave behind their
prior "primitive" ways. This same test of social grace, or lack of,
was explored in literature with the likes of ANIMAL FARM and even as
far back as GULLIVER'S TRAVELS.
In terms of the APES it is the ultimate joke set forth in the
saying, "Monkey see, monkey do." (Human see, human do.") Each
culture is a reflection of the other where a mirror reveals not so
much the physical differences of visage, but instead a brutal inner
commonality we share in traits, prejudices'. Mirrors reveal both the
positive and negative, but it is pride and vanity that refracts the
light, even altering it blinding it to what is truly there and
becoming what is self deception. From that a path previously tread
becomes indistinguishable to the party walking and repetition to
which it's been traveled.

Here's a comparison shot....him in Battle and

I still feel sorry for the poor guy who was helping

were we supposed to tell that Landis was "Jake's

I tried to look for the same fabric at the shop but was unsuccessful.. I will keep looking because I would like to make another for myself.

.htmlThanks for clearing that matter up. As I said, I'm not a fan either,
but I always thought it was unfair to place blame on him for the
Twilight Zone deaths. Pyro techs and the helicopter pilot must have
assurred him it was safe, otherwise they wouldn't have attempted the
stunt. And if your placing the blame on the man in charge, shouldn't
that be the producer?

blame on the man in charge, shouldn't that be the
producer?
From what I remember reading, Landis was doing coke and Vic Morrow even
said earlier in the day, "That guy's crazy." Landis kept ordering the
helicopter to fly lower. As far as I'm concerned it was his fault. A
lot of Hollywood rallied behind him at his trial, but that was because they
didn't want laws passed limiting what a director could do, but Landis' career
was never the same afterward. The word on Landis before the incident was
that he was a major asshole. His success up until them made him like his
shit really didn't stink.

Can you explain this better because I do not get where you're coming from. I really don't get where you think he's questioning his faith.
What he knows of Man was set down by the greatest ape of all, their Lawgiver. The apes say that The Lawgiver is God's prophet, and Zaius believes what The Lawgiver says in the Sacred Scrolls, and as such, what they say goes. When Zaius (talking to Taylor about Humanity) says: "And you're right, I have always known about Man. I believe his wisdom
must walk hand in hand with his idiocy. His emotions must rule his brain. He must be a warlike creature who gives battle to everything around him, even himself" and then goes on to say "The Forbidden Zone was once a paradise. Your breed made a desert of it ages ago". Where does he say anything that would indicate that maybe he doubts what the Sacred Scrolls say? Where does it appear that he questions his faith? If anything, the Scrolls writings justify his beliefs and his beliefs justify the Scrolls teachings. His faith is entirely based on the Sacred Scrolls and the teachings of their God's prophet, The Lawgiver. Everything he believes about Man is set forth in the Scrolls. There is nowhere that he questions his faith. What he knows/believes about Man is all around him. The once paradise Forbidden Zone is proof enough to him that Man is indeed the beast who is the Devil's Pawn. ***
He doesn't want man to take over. He may well use his "faith" to suppress the humans and keep the apes from "getting it" -- but he knows. ** Well, he is not the only one who knows the truth about Man. Remember, Dr. Zaius is not the ruler of the Apes society. There are many more who are above him in power and they too believe the Scrolls teachings. To lay it all at the feet of Zaius is just wrong. Yes, he could hypothetically say that maybe the Scrolls aren't entirely true, but you know if he did, he's be killed and there'd be another fanatic ready and willing to take his place.
And, where does he ever say that he doesn't know the truth about Man? As stated above, he says that he always knew about Man. He and the entire ruling class of apes are keeping the truth suppressed. It's not one single
ape.
He doesn't have blind faith. He has questioning faith and a desire to keep things under control. His control, maybe. *** He has blind faith. Yes, he wants to keep the status quo in order, but he never doubts his religious faith. ***

Dr. Zaius is indeed a religious fanatic who does not "question his faith" at all. If he questioned/doubted his faith at all, he wouldn't have left Taylor detonate the Alpha-Omega bomb.
He knew what the bomb was capable of, and he knew it was built by Man... Yet
knowing all of that, he left Taylor to destroy everything because he was too stupid to give up his religious dogmas about Mankind. If he doubted his faith he would have said (at least to himself) "The scrolls are wrong, not all of Mankind is a harbinger of death. Taylor is a rational, reasoning human being. Maybe he and I can work together to save this situation from getting any worse." BUT, he stuck to his fanaticism (and never doubting his faith for a minute) said to Taylor "Man is evil, capable of nothing but destruction!" He was a religious fanatic, stubbornly holding onto his ideas about Man (and everything else) right until the end. If he was as smart as people think he was, he would have rationally tried to alleviate the situation, but he never doubted he was wrong about things and the world was made to pay for
it. Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

I think the best commentaries are when someone is present and
contributes from the beginning to the end of the movie. That, to me,
is a true commentary and not just a collection of familiar soundbites.
Dan Strepieke could be a very interesting choice, nice one!

I don't know how many others of you here buy Fox DVDs but one of the great
things they've been doing since last years is having isolated scores WITH
COMMENTARIES.
Since Scott is the only living APES composer, I think it be a great idea to
write Fox and tell them this is exactly an extra you'd like for CONQUEST.
I believe James has the addresses available. So far I haven't been
able to find out who's in charge of this project at Fox, but I think the
best thing to do is address the letter to one of the Vice Presidents (there's
three) and add "In Charge of APES on Blu-ray." I know it sounds stupid,
but I think it'll get the attention of whoever looks at the letters Fox
gets.

from an old girlfriend of his) that before Landis hit it big as a director,
and was miserable that Hollywood hadn't thrown there arms around him, (this
would be after SCHLOCK but before KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE) he used to go out

In any event they luckily had a huge batch of
original POTA magazines from 1974-1977
that were never sold to the public.
These file copies which average out at a grade of
NM 9.0 have all been purchased by me!!
So I feel like a kid in a candy store
This is the best selection I"ve had of the POTA

But the great thing is that these are all pretty
well super high grade as they are all
unsold and unread copies.
I was quite pleased to buy 28 high grade copies of
the rare last issue #29
I received the magazines this week and will be
selling them individually or in sets through
and also listing some sets on ebay
Its an amazing find especially of the later issues

*** He didn't say "NO" because "the circle" was not the same the second time around. The original
timeline had the apes enslaved for 500 years and suddenly in CONQUEST they were only enslaved for 8 years. That right there should tell you that things are not going to be the same the second time around. And I am not one that believe everything will be the same. All I was getting at is that most everyone I know of that believes in the "circular timeline" seems to think that everything will end up the same as far as astronaut Taylor landing in the future, followed by Brent, followed by the Earth being destroyed, etc. ***

A lot of makeup artists worked on the original PLANET OF THE APES movies
and didn't get credit and many still aren't credited on IMDB. For man
PLANET was their break into the business.
Check out this interview:
IMDB doesn't list Ken Chase in either PLANET's credits or PLANET

If things aren't exactly the same then it's not a circle
it's a spiral. And if something is different then the end
may be different as well. But just as I have no proof
the Earth wouldn't be destroyed anyway, the other
side has no proof that it would. Think Spirograph.

character from a book. They told her that she couldn't go as Planet
of the Apes because that was a movie. But, my daughter insisted it
was also a book and wanted to go. Well... I agreed.
Anyway, she got dressed as Zira (wasn't allowed to wear a mask) and
here is the result.

She took a Baby Milo with her (use your imagination, she's 8) and
copied the covers of the coloring books from Hunter's site to show
that Planet of the Apes IS a book (!!), and off she went.
I hope she doesn't get expelled!!! <.html

I chalk it up to the Sacret Scrolls and whatever secret documents
Cornelius was given access to being wrong. They likely have a lot of
distorted information in them for the sake of keeping the apes in
line. We already know the Scrolls are wrong--they indicate history
began 1,200 years before the first film, which is obviously not the
case. As such, I consider what we saw happen in the lsat two films as
being what actually occurred historically, and what we were told in the
third film as being distorted information from inaccurate records of
the past. Hence, all discrepencies--Aldo/Lisa/"No," the accelerated
timescale, etc.--can be accounted for.
How's that? :) <.html

.htmlVery true Rich. The original writer, presumably the Lawgiver, never witnessed the history that was being related so inaccuracies could have occured. Plus who knows how many times the history was rewritten and distorted through the centuries.
I believe the history would qualify as a hearsay event, something that the audience doesn't witness but is related by a character. Thus it can be later changed for modified with a simple explaination. The most famous hearsay event in film is Obi-Wan telling Luke that Darth Vader killed his father.

.htmlI believe it is a circle and I always felt the so
called "discrepancies" were actually a re-writing of history to
adhere to political control. Something must have happened to lead to
what we see in PLANET. The Orangutans are in control with the
Gorillas holding a powerful place in society. The chimps don't hold
any real power or else Zira wouldn't have so much to complain about,
and rightly so.
I believe there was probably some sort of power struggle that took
place between BATTLE and PLANET were resulted a shift in who was in
control. If one figures in the TV series then it has already taken
place. In fact, there even a taste of the chip resentment shown more
than once.
The Orangutans probably not only re-wrote history, but perhaps
covered it up. Case in point Aldo. Instead of a gorilla being
known as the first ape-killer he would be given a place in history as
the one who said, "No."
The Ape society is a suppressed one that uses religion to keep
everyone in line via a caste system, which in turns keeps away and or
limits change they by keeping those who are in control, in control.
It imposes a religious "reason" for control as well as placement.
With the lawgiver as a supreme figurehead it places Orangutans, like
Levites among the ancient Hebrews, as keeper of faith and the god
given right to govern.
Another point of interest, in ESCAPE Zira and Cornelius never seem to
elude that a chip is ever given credit as being a savior or leading
the revolt that would free their kind. Their son's history seems to
have been wiped out no wonder his statue cries. His place, hope
for the future, everything is wiped out by his own species. This I
think is yet another point as what I posted previous concerning how
so much like us (humans) the apes sadly become.

Couldn't this be the paradox Timeline thing <for lack of a better term?>
I.E. Ape History was changed at the point Zira and Cornelius entered Taylor's time in Escape POTA in Taylor's Starship, and thus altered the future of apes and humans- giving us Caesar instead of Aldo speaking first and giving the future of Apes and Humans a chance instead of the apoclypyic fate that happened at the end of Beneath POTA...

By "Cornelius own collection," do you mean it included personal items
from Roddy McDowell's personal archive? I own the DVDs separately
ratehr than in the ape head, so I'm not sure what that refers to. <.html

.htmlThanks, Rich. I'll tell her! I have to agree with you about their
ignorance! However, as it turns out, Tiffany's class got first place!
Now they can't fault Tiff too badly for going ahead with her plan!!
She was grinning when she stepped off the bus and she said, "I wore it
all day long!" Heeheehee... A girl after her mommy's heart.

I.E. Ape History was changed at the point Zira and Cornelius entered Taylor's time in Escape POTA in Taylor's Starship, and thus altered the future of apes and
humans- giving us Caesar instead of Aldo speaking first and giving the future of Apes and Humans a chance instead of the apoclypyic fate that happened at the end of Beneath POTA...
*** Yes, and that's more or less what I've said for a long time. The arrival of the Ape-onauts sets an entirely new timeline into being.

.htmlHey guys, I'm trying to find some information on some of the biggest
collectors of Planet of the Apes memorabilia & toys. Supposedly there
are a few people that have near complete collections of all the
goodies released around '74, ranging from the Mego figures to POTA
trash cans and banks.
I'm hoping to talk to a few of the major collectors and ask them a few
questions for a story. Does anyone have the names & email addresses
of any major collectors? Drop me an email - apereporter@...
Thanks.
