Dear Tim,

Thanks for the info. It is the best copy Iv'e seen. I am putting together a Battle Ceaser costume and a Julius costume at the moment. Have the prosthetics finally and am now looking to put together the costumes. The chimp tunic being the complicated one.
Thanks for sharing your collection.
I will take photo's of my collection at some point and post them up.

I had it made for me a few years ago! A friend of mine used to work at the costume shop at Paramount Parks. I bought all the material and she made it for me. Pants too! Then I used my Apemania mask and made some furry hands! Have only worn it once for Halloween! Maybe I'll break it out again this year for POTA's 40th!

Tim

The Ziegfeld had a new print. The problem is that it was from an old negative. They really need to strike new negatives so any new prints will look good.

It's bad enough when a big company like FOX filled with people who come
and go to be less knowing and impersonal about using the wrong visuals
to represent the wrong ape or POTA film - but "Pittsburgh Filmmakers"!
Not one person there knew they were posting a pic from BENEATH with
James Franciscus along side text on Heston?! Sloppy.

"New 35mm print" doesn't necessarily mean it's been made from the best source, as we learned in New York.

Hi all, I have been talking to a chap named Chan Ada in Hong Kong about sculpting heads of
Virdon, Burke and Galen etc for 12" action figures. His work is outstanding but his
commissions work out at $230 a head. I have said that if he put these into production he
would have little problem selling them. They would go for $25 a piece, a lot more reasonable.
He even offers a painted head for $35. I said I would mention it to you all. If you are
interested in pushing this forward please email him at ada748623@....

Within a months time, I'll be casting my 1/6 scale head of Galen if
you are interested. (You can see pictures of him at the YAHOO Planet
of the Apes PHOTO section. I have approx 170 pictures there you can
look at. Look for the PHOTO ALBUM Angelofmusic2112.)

If you're interested send me an e-mail and I'll notify you when I'm
ready to do this. I have a growing list of people who have already
requested this. As soon as I complete a couple of my current
projects, I'll be making heads of Galen for interested parties.

I'm expecting to sell these for $25 unpainted. At this moment, I
don't think I'll be painting any of them.

    .html
Within a months time, I'll be casting my (1/6 scale)head of Galen if
you are interested. (You can see pictures of him at the YAHOO Planet
of the Apes PHOTOS section. I have approx 170 pictures there you can
look at. Look for the PHOTO ALBUM Angelofmusic2112.)

If you are interested send me an e-mail and I'll notify you when I'm
about to do this. I have a growing list of people who have already
requested this. As soon as I complete a couple of my current
projects, I'll be making heads of Galen for interested parties.

I'm expecting to sell these for $25 unpainted. At this moment, I
don't think I'll be painting any of them.

If you can send an e-mail to Ms. Ada Chan, one of the best sculptors of 1:6 scale heads, she will tally the e-mails she receives and sculpt for free one celebrity (foregoing her $230 sculpting fee).  I was hoping that I could have enough people send her a request to sculpt James Naughton as Burke from the TV Series, Planet of the Apes.  I know it will be impossible to get enough people to request this celebrity, but I am hoping for the best.  If you can send her a request with this on the subject line:

*** Galen would be good as a stand alone piece/figure, but I don't quite see how Burke (James Naughton) would work as a stand alone figure without Virdon (Ron Harper).

I'd much rather see this artist create a decent likeness of James Franciscus as Brent. ***

No--you are under NO obligation to purchase.  She is just making a tally of what's the most popular celebrity she can sculpt.  Whoever gets the most votes she will sculpt and then sell the casts of it for $25 unpainted, $35 painted, only if you want to purchase.  I already put in my request for the Burke sculpt, but I will not purchase it.  I just want the votes to go to something Ape-related.

I remember Apes week vividly as well, and in fact I just uncovered an old TV Guide that had some of the ads for The 4:30 Movie. Planet was on Monday and Tuesday, BENEATH was Thursday, and ESCAPE on Friday. Frikkin' "Afterschool Special" was on Wednesday. Bah...

Was the promo you mentioned the one with "The apes are in power, and the rest of us are running for our lives. On a planet where survival...gets you one more chance to die. It's a battle in a world that time forgot...Beneath the Planet of the Apes."?

More again this past Friday night on American Life TV Network. William
Windom played the heavy on an episode of Mission: Impossible (they're
into the "Syndicate" episodes now). Sal Mineo was a big time drug dealer
a few eps back, and even made inane hippie dialog like "Far out" work.

Also, the episode of The Green Hornet ("Beautiful Dreamer Part 2")
featured a cavalcade of sound EFX from the Fox library. Machine gun fire,
grenade launch/explosions, and even burning fire that sounded like I was
watching BATTLE. FYI, the episode with Robert Gunner ("The Ray is for
Killing") will be on this Friday May 30th at 9:30 and 11:30 PM (EST).

The other day I heard from a person I had been corresponding with at Fox,
and he informed me that he passed along my e-mail about the sound EFX
problems in all the versions of BENEATH that were released (subsequent to
the Magnetic Video version) to the Sound Department that's working on the
upcoming Blu- ray versions. So that's a start at any rate, and I can
honestly say that I've pretty much done everything I possibly can to
correct the problem. Since I finally took Hunter's advice and bought a
DVD recorder, I even offered to send them a DVDr copy so they had the
original to listen to for reference.

Good thing he got in touch too, because my request for contact info from
someone who had been in contact with the company hired to prepare the
extras went completely ignored- much like a lame ass cover band does when
trying to get recognized by any self respecting music fan.

If I hear anything else, I'll pass it along.

They play Mission Impossible.  I can't believe how many Apes actors were on that show.  Besides the actors that were mentioned a few weeks ago, I watched last week and Booth Colman was on.  I think nearly every main Apes actors have been on it.  I know not Heston or Hunter.

Beneath was first broadcast in 1973 in a 2 hour slot. The last showing by CBS was I think in early 1977 and it was cut down to a 90 minute slot.

I had an audio tape of this broadcast for years and remember it very well. Several scenes were cut out completely: the Zaius/Ursus steam bath/training of the Ape Army/the Ape religious ceremony/the Gorilla's smashing the Mendez busts & Zaius finding Albina. Other scenes were trimmed down: Nova & Brent's trip to Ape City/Brent & Nova being chased by the Gorillas into the Forbidden Zone/Brent & Nova walking through the Subway tunnels/Brent talking with the Mutant in the cathedral/the mutant interrogation/the mutant mass/the Taylor & Brent fight.

When it was shown on the 4:30 Movie (or as a friend of mine use to call it the 4:30 Film Clips) even more cuts were made.

    Chris,
I only have a few of the 16mm spots on video - but none are of the APE film. (THE EXORCIST, THE SWARM, IT'S ALIVE FILMS, SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE)  The SPACE:1999 YR promos were used as part of the A&E releases.

The promo I remember from the local ABC 4:30 movie was a part of an original trailer for BENEATH showing the screen split in half by a line showing scenes from the film on either side.  The narrator stated, "can a planet exist half ape and half human?  You find the terrifying truth when ape and him collide... BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES.
I was very disappointed when that trailer was never released as a bonus feature on the DVDs.  Instead FOX just keeps using the same one since Laserdisc.  Back when the POTA films were theatrically released the studios prepared so many versions of both theatrical, TV and radio advertisements it was wonderful.  FOX has not even skimmed surface of what there is.  If you look at the 007 releases some of those films have a dozen radio spots and several TV Spots as well.  This stuff is there, the studios are just lazy to get them.

When I was working with Anchor Bay Ent. on the restoration of a Disney film, THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS, the studio kept telling me all was long destroyed.  I finally made contact with a person who was a production person in training at the time the film was being made - he still worked at the studio and on his lunch hour when into the vault and did a quick computer search on inventory.  He printed out what he found and faxed it to me.  It not only listed all the elements on the film (both negatives and sound) but also listed all the various trailers, TV spots and the like - even in different languages!  It just that DISNEY didn't want to put some from that department to work and look and then pull anything.  Each department has a budget and for the Home Video Department to allocate the money for search and pull would take that person away from other duties.  It really stupid but it seems this is typical of many studios. ... and sad.  Of course it can be done, but someone has to okay it, and care.  If they feel a given release can do well enough with only basic materials and still make money for the studio why bother doing more.  I've run into that very same reasoning with more than one studio.  A&E is king of being cheap and stupid.  They never even considered doing audio commentaries or producing featurettes until I was hired.  They were so cheap the commentary I did for them was done in my home on my pc, digitized then sent off to the digital authoring house.
FOX only seems to do justice to newer "A" titles - even then this whole Blu-ray thing is a joke.  The studios are more interested in "interactive" junk and games on these discs.  How many times is a person going to play with a map, or pop-ups?!  HD discs bragged about large storage - yet the studios aren't even trying to fill that gap.  Aside from PLANET the APE films don't have long running times.  They could easily fit two on one Blu disc (Beneath/Escape, Conquest/Battle - and still have room for bonus materials.  Less discs would be a cheaper set.  If the TV series was released on Blu it should mean only 2 or three discs.  The entire animated series could be done on one!  I doubt we will ever see it.  Blu discs costs more to produce.  Creating the glass master and producing the discs themselves is a costly investment - that's why they sell for $30 bucks.  On the other hand, the production costs of manufacturing the now gone HD-DVD was mush less.  With Blu holding only 6% of the entire DVD sales piece of pie companies are now worried that if it doesn't improve it may die a very quick death.  In order for it to grow swiftly players are going to have come down in price, a more  varied selection of content will have to be released, and disc prices will also have to come down.  Even not FOX has released MASTER AND COMMANDER on Blu with less bonus content than the previously released standard version of three years ago!  I'm stating this for the POTA fans who might be worried about more being on the Blu released of the new POTA forth coming edition.
Besides, the companies have been fooling the public as of recent - when FOX's DIE HARD, and WARNER's HARRY POTTER films recently came out on Blu, and also released on standard DVD they  both only used the older DVD masters for the new standard DVD releases.  They never made new standards masters from the new HD sources.  However, they did repackage the film making them seem they may have contained newly mastered versions.  I wonder, if FOX will pull this stunt again with the POTA sequels?  They would have to release a newer standard master of PLANET, but would they of the sequels?  Only time will tell.  The problem is a lot of the online and even print reviews don't really watch or won't really put their necks out to put down a release.  They glaze over many bad releases in fear of keeping the door open to receive future review copies.  I know, I was cut off from DISNEY after giving a bad review to one if their titles.  I was asked to change the review or not get future releases.  Warner's had a shit fit when I posted screen grabs pointing out how they screwed up the first Harry Potter and the 25th Anniversary Edition of The Exorcist.
However, there is hope.  FOX has released some very nice editions of older Sci-fi films, THE FLY COLLECTION, FANTASTIC VOYAGE, THE LOST WORLD.  Perhaps there are some new people there who will bring some much needed change.
    Finger crossed!
    - Scott B

James, I also remember when CBS showed BENEATH at that time.  In addition to the edits you mention, when Brent and Nova were walking past the ruined landmarks of NYC, the Radio City Music Hall scene was also cut out.

Other scenes were trimmed down: Nova & Brent's trip to Ape City/Brent & Nova being chased by the Gorillas into the Forbidden Zone/Brent & Nova walking through the Subway tunnels/Brent talking with the Mutant in the cathedral/the mutant interrogation/ the mutant mass/the Taylor & Brent fight.

When it was shown on the 4:30 Movie (or as a friend of mine use to call it the 4:30 Film Clips) even more cuts were made.

I wonder who has Roddy's cine films. I have pictures of him on the set of Conquest with a cine camera in his hand. It is well known he documented everything. It would be great to see his Escape, Conquest and Battle footage if it exists and even maybe he did the same on the TV show?
Now they would be great extras along with the restored Conquest rumoured to be coming out.

        Chris,
I only have a few of the 16mm spots on video - but none are of the APE film.

I still have it on audio tape, since home video players weren't around yet. <<

Thank you everyone who sent an e-mail for Ada Chan to sculpt Burke.  It would be a dream come true and a minor victory if we as a group submitted just one request to sway the results towards something Planet of the Apes related.   I am not buying the sculpt when it's made available for purchase but I just wanted to rock the 1:6 scale world if we could sway the votes for Burke.  People would be left scratching their heads wondering how in the world this could have happened.  I want to show them that Planet of the Apes is alive and well!!

Bah...

If Burke won the vote, which I doubt he will,  I will be buying an unpainted one.  I change my mind.   I am going pay $$ to have someone shrink it to Mego-size.  That way I can have two:  one for my 1:6 scale action figure and the other to 1:9 scale action figure.  Ada Chan does not have the capability to shrink these heads, as I have already asked her before.

        Chris,
I only have a few of the 16mm spots on video - but none are of the APE film.

        - Scott B

Was that the original broadcast? I vividly remember the 1976 rebroadcast being scheduled in a 2 hour slot on a Friday night. As far as I can remember, the entire film was shown because I'd always notice what scenes were missing from The 4:30 Movie.

Thank you posting the pic.  I may be behind what's going on, but... I thought it would be bigger?  Is this a head for an action figure?
Also, are the others she's done more like the persons/apes she sculpting.  The Brent looks more like the sideshow collectible than James Franciscus.

The sculpts she sells are for 1:6 scale action figures.  She also does 1:9 scale although she may do other scales but I am not familiar with any other scales.   I am attaching a photo of Sideshow's Brent and also reposting Ada Chan's Brent sculpt and you can decide for yourself which figure looks more accurate to James Franciscus.

        James,
Yes, it now worked - THANKS.
That is the teaser I was talking about which was used in parts on one air of the 4:30 moive.  You're also right, it is the same that is in BEHIND - but why wasn't it included as a bonus trailer?!  I hope they open the vaults and reallly do the next release proper.
New market results have just come in and Blu-ray is bombing out - no growth.  Be assured, if any new special releases of the POTA films come out in Oct. they will also be available on Standard DVD - FOX wouldn't put that much money in producing this stuff and cut off the larger portion of their income.

Thank you posting the pic.  I may be behind what's going on, but... I thought it would be bigger?  Is this a head for an action figure?
Also, are the others she's done more like the persons/apes she sculpting.  The Brent looks more like the sideshow collectible than James Franciscus.

        To recap:
Virdon sculpt:  done, available from member, Chris Hight
Brent sculpt by Ada Chan:  done, available from member, Chris Hight
Armando sculpt by Ada Chan (from Conquest): done, available from member, Angelofmusic2112

        Thanks again,

If you can send an e-mail to Ms. Ada Chan, one of the best sculptors of 1:6 scale heads, she will tally the e-mails she receives and sculpt for free one celebrity (foregoing her $230 sculpting fee).  I was hoping that I could have enough people send her a request to sculpt James Naughton as Burke from the TV Series, Planet of the Apes.  I know it will be impossible to get enough people to request this celebrity, but I am hoping for the best.  If you can send her a request with this on the subject line:

I want to thank those that have sent an e-mail to Ms. Ada Chan to ask her to sculpt James Naughton for free.  I cannot begin to explain how much this means to me.  Thank you for helping our cause.  You have not only saved us fanatics $230, but you have helped strengthen this bond I have with my fellow ape brethren.  Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  When casts of his sculpt are available for purchase, I will post another announcement.

        Jessica.

Thank you posting the pic.  I may be behind what's going on, but... I thought it would be bigger?  Is this a head for an action figure?
Also, are the others she's done more like the persons/apes she sculpting.  The Brent looks more like the sideshow collectible than James Franciscus.

Yes, that be him...Robert Patrick, until I upgrade him to Burke.  When I complete the figure, I will post him, since the Sideshow version of Burke does not exist.

JBK, some of the items on your wishlist have already been sculpted.  Just ask around.  I don't have the inventory of what 1:6 commissioned head sculpts have been done, but I wish I did.  I would like to have an inventory/list and right next to the name I would like a small photograph for reference as well as who did the sculpting, and who owns the figure.

And again, thank you to everyone who helped with this project.

Ape fans! I'm trying to get an idea just how much resin I should be
buying for the 1/6 resin head sculpt of Galen.

Please let me know if you are interested in this getting this
sculpt. I will buying the required resin next week and I'm trying to
plan accordingly. I thank you, in advance, for your antipcated
        reply.

You can see pictures of Galen all painted up with his Sideshow Body
by clicking on PHOTOS in the left hand column and going into the
        PHOTO ALBUM of AngelofMusic2112.

If you're interested in gettint this GALEN sculpt, please send me an
e-mail indicating that you're interested in getting a resin sculpt of
        Galen.
