Subject: INKWORKS autographed chase cards question...
.html
I am trying to recall the people that had autographed chase cards included in the INKWORKS series of APES cards... I know of:

Buck Kartalian
Natalie Trundy
Jeff Corey

Who were the others? It seems like there was probably a Don Pedro Colley card too but now I don't remember... Anyone who knows all of the autographed chase cards, please post them... Thanks...

Do you know the exact spot in Red Rock Canyon used in Beneath? I'm assuming this is where the troops saw the bleeding Lawgiver...?
and is it also where Brent and Nova go in the cave?
I know the Burton film was shot there too...as Calima...

Linda Harrison and Don Pedro Colley are the other two.

Scans of all the Inkworks cards are available on the Group Website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/Misc./Stuff/ArchiveCards.htm

Some how I get the feeling this is all part of an elaborate con job. The black bordered cards are the UK set.

Greetings, everyone. I have posted a new file in the Files Section.
It is an advertisement from 1975 for a life-sized wall hanging of
Cornelius. It's pretty cool, so check it out. I wish we could still
order them today. The file is called "Cornelius Life-Size Pin-Up". I
hope you all enjoy it.

It was pointed out somewhere that they are not black bordered....it just looks that way in the pic...they have no borders.....

I guess it's pretty damn rare to have a test set for it to be worth that much!

That's awesome, Tim! I wish the ad was in color, but I was lucky to
find it. I was flipping through an old sci-fi magazine from 1975 and
came across it. Great to see it in color. Thanks for sharing!

    Tim,

The spot where the Ape Army marches and the Lawgiver vision appears is in Hagen Canyon at Red Rock Canyon State Park , underneath a rock formation named “The Acropolis”.  This is on a loop hike of a little over a mile in length, starting at the parking area on the left just as you turn off of the highway onto the park road.  I do have some photos I will try to post in a few days.

I think the Brent and Nova cave is somewhere in Malibu Creek State Park , not sure where.

I also think the Burton “Calima” was filmed at the Trona Pinnacles at another location in California , I had zero interest in looking for any locations from that movie!

Do you know the exact spot in Red Rock Canyon used in Beneath? I'm assuming this is where the troops saw the bleeding Lawgiver...?
and is it also where Brent and Nova go in the cave?
I know the Burton film was shot there too...as Calima...

The British cards did not have Heston's name on the back like these do. Plus these are borderless-that's something black in the card sleeves not the borders of the cards themselves.

Some how I get the feeling this is all part of an elaborate con job. The black bordered cards are the UK set.

The United States Topps "Land of the Giants TV set" would go for 3 grand on a bad day...with the box & wrapper about 6 grand total...if you could find a set that is. Almost as rare as these.

The British cards did not have Heston's name on the back like these do. Plus these are borderless-that's something black in the card sleeves not the borders of the cards themselves.

The point of my answer was that scene may have been filmed and it would explain the strange "looks" between Brent and Mendez in that scene.  Also, Brent could have just thought that answer from the implanted qestion and his mind could have been read.  The mutants might not be able to read secondaryl thoughts, but would be able to pick up free one - which is why they would know the truth when it is heard, by comparison.

If so, then they would have never had to speak to him at all and everything could have been "thought" between Brent and the Mutants... ***

In the novel Mendez gives Brent an annoyed look in that scene because he telepathically tells Brent to "take off his mask".  Brent thinks back to Mendez that he's not wearing one - which explains Mendez's miffed look and Mendez's curtness with the "city of the dead" line.

I hope that refers to the pin-up, and not to your son! I'd hate to
think your son ripped his arms and hands off and now resides in a box
          in the garage.

thank you james 1102 for posting the ad from the houston post. the
admission to see planet was 60 cents wow what a bargain. at night it
was 1.25 for adults . this was the first indoor theater called general
cinema 1 and 2 meyerland plaza . back in those days before the movie
they showed comming previews and a loney tunes cartoon like bugs
bunny .then the general cinema corp logo would come up and say feature
presentation then the fox fanfare logo would appear and planet would
start. it was so GOOD that i sat thur it twice .

I created a photo album that I labeled "Filming Locations -
California" in the Photos section. I believe this covers everything
that we found on our trip. Let me know if you have any questions.

thank you james 1102 for posting the ad from the houston post. the
admission to see planet was 60 cents wow what a bargain. at night it
was 1.25 for adults . this was the first indoor theater called general
cinema 1 and 2 meyerland plaza . back in those days before the movie
they showed comming previews and a loney tunes cartoon like bugs
bunny .then the general cinema corp logo would come up and say feature
presentation then the fox fanfare logo would appear and planet would
start. it was so GOOD that i sat thur it twice .

I think the Brent and Nova cave is somewhere in Malibu Creek State Park, not sure where.
                    --Mike
Yes, it is, but exactly where remains a mystery. I'm also not sure where the location is where Brent stops the wagon and unbridles the horses for just Nova and himself. I don't think it's Malibu Creek, so therefore either Vasques Rocks or Red Rock Canyon (I suspect Red Rock).

Oh, one other thing I wanted to say was that the scenes where Brent and Nova are being chased on horseback by the gorilla troupe (just before they find the cave), those shots with them riding along the tree line are on the same field that was the cornfield in PLANET and the "mowed" field the mutant army crosses to battle the apes in BATTLE.

Ok, so I understand in the original book the humans just got lazier and lazier, depending on the apes more and more, and then the apes just took over.

In the movie adaption, I understand the meta humans, their the ones you see in Battle. What of the background of the mutes ? this doesn't seem to be explained in the movies....

I just read an interview with collector Wes Shank, The Man Who Owns "The Blob".....and he said this:

"My next favorite, it's hard to say. I have a statue that was used in 'Planet of the Apes' in 1968."

Anyone know which one he's talking about? He said he paid $400 in 1971!

                      Just curious.....

Well, I just found this link. Mentions POTA near the end. Sounds like he means one of the full-sized Lawgiver statues, but they sure weren't made of stone. I'll keep looking to see if there's an email address for this guy.

Nice, but there's a number of mis-statements in the thing, and this bothers me:

"Not only was the film significant from a financial perspective (it was a smash hit when released), but it arguably became the first box office titan to spawn a multimillion dollar advertising explosion into movie related merchandise (a trend that people ignorantly and wrongly believe that Lucas started nine years later with his space fantasy)."

Well, I can argue with that.... Doesn't anyone remember that the James Bond films, I think starting with GOLDFINGER or THUNDERBALL in '64 and '65, had huge marketing campaigns, or what about Disney's DAVEY CROCKET in the '50s and HOPPALONG C ASSIDY before that, or maybe even TARZAN in the thirties? And lest we not forget that in was the failure of Arthur Jabobs's own DR. DOLITTLE that killed any kind of promotional marketing for PLANET in '68, and all it's sequels beyond. It wasn't until the big ratings the movies got when first shown on TV that Fox finally decided on a campaign for APES.

upstairs above the theater burned the place down. Rumor has it that

I saw Battle for the first time. A few weeks earlier, I had seen the Battle poster in the lobby of the Walker Theater under a 'Coming Soon' sign and it looked so damn cool.

I was there to see 'The Poseidon Adventure' (the first time I had seen Roddy without the makeup) and asked when Battle would be opening. They told me Friday, July 13th. I spent the next few weeks counting the days until the film opened. A wait made easier by a trip to Disney World the week prior. (We got back on the 12th.) I remember going bed the night before and trying to fall asleep as fast as possible so morning would come quickly. Sort of like on Christmas Eve.

The next morning I ran to get the newspaper (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/files/BattleAd.jpg) see the ad for the film and found out there was a second feature playing with Battle, the original 'Planet of the Apes' (which I had only seen once back in 1968). WOW, two Apes of the price of one. I was in POTA heaven.

About 2 weeks later the theater did a marathon of all the films and I got to see them all yet again. But today is a very special memory for me and just wanted to share it with everyone.

That's really cool, thanks for sharing.  People seem to forget what it was like to wait and see a film and then only get to see it in a theatre.  No TIVO, VCRs, or bootleg copies for sale.  Thanks for the memory.

Many of these people are still productive members of society and deserve our respect and support. That goes for footless, legless people who live in boxes as well. (Several of whom were extras in the classic SF movie 'Silent Running'.)

Thank you for your attention and now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Yes, that's a video by Adam Odell.  Video #15 is the one I have been waiting forever to be published on the Sideshow website.  I had seen sneak previews, but I was sworn to secrecy.

Yeah, that was pretty good. The apes looked better in that than they do in BENEATH!
