.html*** Yes, but the isolated score wouldn't be the complete score to the film... "Milo's death" will be absent... *** That may or may not be true! I'm not sure exactly what Fox is going to do. For instance, the "Crash Landing" cue in PLANET has more to it on CD than what's in the film. If I were in charge of this, I'd put the entire cue on the DVD. Most probably Fox won't do it, but maybe they will. Same thing with BENEATH. Also, what about the "Preview Version" of CONQUEST? The movie has more score than the final edited version. Will all that be isolated too?

.htmlThe `Beneath' cover in particular is a stand-out, the Zaius re-creation is spookily accurate. I'm still not 100% convinced
that isn't Maurice Evans! I meant to comment on this before.... Look at Zaius' inner sleeve at the bottom of the cover. It's the chimpanzee "canvas-like thingie" sleeve. The orangutans had brown tunics under their coats that came to a plain cuff at the wrist. So much for these "recreations" being spookily accurate.

.htmlYes, Ed Benguiat. OK, yes, you're right.... me wrong.
Ed Benguiat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ed Benguiat (born Ephram Edward Benguiat, October 27, 1927) is an influential American
typographer. He has crafted over 600 typefaces including Tiffany, Bookman,
Panache, Edwardian Script, and the self-titled typefaces Benguiat and Benguiat Gothic. He also designed
logotypes for The New York Times, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, the original
Planet of the Apes film, Super Fly, and countless others.
Benguiat grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended Canarsie High School. He was once a very prominent jazz percussionist playing=2
0in several big bands with the likes of Stan Kenton and Woody Herman. In an interview Benguait stated this of his chosen career as a designer: "I'm really a musician, a jazz percussionist. One day I went to the musician's union to pay dues and I saw all these old people who were playing bar mitzvahs and Greek weddings. It occurred to me that one day that's going to be me, so I decided to become an illustrator."
This guy is still alive, I think. I wonder how he feels about his POTA logo being altered. Maybe Fox would have had to pay him something when they renewed the copyright -- and refused -- so they just altered it a little.
Maybe James could find out where the School of Visual Arts is and pay old Ed a visit?

because the release date falls around the same time Deep Discount has
their 20 percent off sale (yes I know, they suck but), that could
knock another $20 off the price. Well, you can cancel it -- if you're sure about Deep Discount. Anyway to find out from Deep Discount what they're going to do?

.htmlHi. Just wanted to share a photo of me wearing Apemania's Zira
appliances. It came yesterday and I have already put it on and off
numerous times. It will definitely look better once it's all glued in
place and I have a better hairline and wig. I uploaded the photo in my
folder, Jessica's Stuff, if you are unable to see it here.
This is the appliance before I removed the excess foam latex around the
mask.

Jessica. That's damn cool, Jessica. What are you planning for the wig and hair pieces? You know, in the original two films (not sure about the others) they used real human hair (I think from Asians). Good wigs and hair pieces make a big difference. Also, you'll need to do all the makeup color and blending. A lot of work.
I was watching just yesterday the Roddy McDowall 16mm footage of him being made up during PLANET. I think the thing that took longest was simply applying all the grease paint and blending the colors!

With postage it came to $268.78. Hopefully it arrives and works OK. If I were superstitious about numbers, I'd take the 268 in the final price as a good sign. (Get it? POTA in 1968. Going 2 '68 to see POTA in Hi-Def? Never mind.)
Anyway, here's a video review. Doesn't sound as if it's perfect, but at that price I'll take it.

It was brought to my attention that there may be a few who see the web site a bit to the right of the screen (not in the center). That's because the site was designed for PC widescreen monitors and PC's connected to widescreen LCD TVs. But I'll try to work on a secondary site for regular PC monitors when the web site is finished.

blending of the edges and the colors. In addition to the face makeup, I
also have to make sure to do a proper job on the the hands and wrists.

Hi.
This
is the appliance before I removed the excess foam latex around the
mask.

Thanks, Jessica.
And just so everyone knows, all videos on the site will be downloadable. All
you need to do is right click your mouse cursor over the image of the file
then "save target as..." As in this example, mouse cursor over the "POTA Super 8
Box."
Enjoy

I'm also constructing my own outfit and have been slowly putting it
together. There is lots left to do on the costume but hopefully the end
product will be spectacular. You can see it take shape here:

James Daly (Honorious) was on last night and actually had three roles: a

the imposter. Until looking at his entry at the IMDB, I didn't realize he
was the father of both Tyne Daly and Tim Daly.

James and Rich mentioned, there's a few 'crowd' observations I had that

(Brent's modesty in changing while Nova was watching as well as his "What the
hell would I have to say to a gorilla?") got laughs from the crowd, there
were a few more scenes that elicited the same response which surprised me.
"My God it's...it's a City of Apes!' and "The longer I stay around here the
less I'm beginning to care" both got laughter from the audience, as well as
the first revelation of the 'Queensborough Plaza' sign. This in particular
struck me as weird, but it also could have been because it was a NYC
landmark and we were watching the film in NYC. There was also an audible
(if subdued) "Oh!" of surprise when Brent first saw Taylor in the jail
cell, which led me to believe that a good amount of the audience was seeing
the film for the first time. Also a bit of hesitation to applaud at the
end of the film- that stark silence during the credit roll really does
have an impact. <<<.html

actors own hair blended in, with the exception of the Orangs
who's were made from Yak hair. If you could find some where
that does Geisha Wigs from human hair that would be your best
bet.

Other than having someone make custom pieces, there
are a few cheaper, longer beards on the market that need trimming that'll
work. I was in L.A. and found 3 different beards that, in combination,
would work for half the money.

Paul Newman directed Naughton in a film
version of "The Glass Menagerie", and there was a companion book. Newman starred
in Arthur Jacobs' first movie, "What A Way To Go" and was an early choice for
POTA.
Newman worked with a chimp in that movie! (I have "What A Way To Go!" on DVD. Not too good a movie.)

The US Government owning the largest

.htmlApemania emailed me back saying the are going to contact MPTF and see
if they want some touch ups made. As far as what it is made of, I
thought it was some kind of poly foam, until I saw the chip, I can only
describe the outer coat as a hard shell, like an M& M with a little bit
of space between it & the under sculpture. I don't have a digital
camera, but I'll see if I can get one of my friends with a camera to go
out there with me again to take a photo. None of them live in this part
of the San Fernado Valley, so it may be difficult, I've been trying to
get some of them to go for a while now. They just have no
interest.... I would imagine it's most made of fiberglass.

| Subject: BENEATH scenes |
|
.html I think I finally figured out why Don Pedro Colley's character was
missing from the scene in BENEATH immediately following the failure of
the Lawgiver illusion to stop the advancing ape army. In the Final
Shooting Script dated April 10th 1969, there's a somewhat different
sequence of events. Brent discovers the subway station, that cuts to the
Minister giving his blessing to the Ape Army, then it cuts back to Brent
and Nova in the subway and Brent's soliloquy. Later, after Brent says
"The Apes are marching on your City", it goes to the scene where the
young chimpanzees are protesting, then to the Mass. The fight in the jail
cell is immediately afterwards, and then after the missing scene of
Mendez kneeling/praying before the bust of Mendez I, it cuts to the
Gorilla Army in the desert/Lawgiver illusion. Afterwards, the gorilla
army advances, finds the octagonal vent in the ground, and begin their
descent. That cuts to "Mendez and surviving Inquisitors" with the dialog
somewhat different from the finished film:
Caspay (to Fat Man): You know the range of their City
Fat Man nods
Caspay: Set it in the mechanism and wait for me.
Fat Man exits shot
Caspay (to Albina): I want a public thought projection at adult and
infant level: 'Clear the Streets. Stay Indoors'.
Albina nods and exits shot.
Caspay (to Mendez): What will you do, Holiness?
Mendez: Everything Necessary.
Then it goes to the army initially entering the City, and the trio in the
jail cell with the gorilla solider looking through the hole in the wall
etc.
So basically, "Stupid animals. They don't have the brains to hold our
illusions" (Caspay). "We've no defense" (Albina). "Except our bomb. Call
our people to High Sanctuary" (Mendez) was tracked in later, and what's
interesting about this is the fact that- as had been mentioned recently-
you don't see the Mutants actually speaking during this part of the
scene. You do (apparently) see Caspay say "Adults to the Cathedral,
infants indoors", but you're looking at him from the back so he could
have said "Clear the Streets. Stay Indoors" while filming, and then
rerecorded dialog was tracked in later to address the fact that the scene
was taking place earlier in the film. Giving it a close listen, it does
seem as if Caspay's dialog right after "...and wait for me." was dubbed
in later.
At some point, this scene was filmed with the implication that DPC's
character was already dead, otherwise he would have been included in the
scene. Afterwards, the scenes of the gorilla army were placed closer
together (Minister blessing/Chimpanzee protestors) and earlier in the
film (bleeding Lawgiver) that what the script intended. Presumably, Ted
Post and/or Mort Abrahams decided all this post production and had to
edit things differently. This also accounts for the scene where Mendez's
purple robes go missing when the gorilla army is trying to break down the
Cathedral doors. Here, you see the doors from the inside of the Cathedral
as the army is trying to break them open, then the aforementioned shot of
Mendez who appears to be looking at the doors turning his head from right
to left to look up at the bomb. Then a shot of the bomb in it's lowered
position is cut in, then an exterior shot of the Cathedral as the doors
break open and you see Mendez kneeling (sans robe) in the distance. If I
had to guess, I'd say that they filmed the doors from the inside as they
were being hit by the iron beams, but simply forgot to get a reaction
shot of Mendez. So, they simply cut in another shot of Mendez that worked
partially because of where he was looking, and partially because of the
rock/stone walls in the background of both scenes. All things considered,
it was handled pretty craftily.
Interestingly, there's no scene of the gorilla army seeing the ruins of
NYC in the script. So this was either a post production last minute
decision where they just edited together shots of the army marching and
then reaction shots from the different characters, or it was something
they decided to include during filming. I just looked at the scene again,
and it appears that they cobbled this scene together in the editing room.
A few seconds in, you see a shot looking upwards towards Ursus and Zaius
riding on a trail where you'll see a and brightly colored orange rock
near the edge of the trail. Now if you go back to the bleeding Lawgiver
scene where Zaius says "The vision was false", you see Ursus- in the
distance- on his horse stopped near that exact same rock. Either way, it
really explains the poor matte shot of the above ground NYC ruins when
you think about it. There really wasn't a lot of time to do one properly.
