What freaked me out the most was Lucas releasing all six SW movies again on DVD, on November 4th.
No doubt he wanted to milk the SW movies one last time before releasing them on Blu-ray.
Unbeliveable.

i know this may be getting a bit winded, but someone who takes so much
criticism may deserve it.usually where there is smoke there is fire.
as a expert that's a joke, people went on nonstop about apemanias
involvement in the blue rays, but if any one or group has helped apes is them but
they were a target for doing there job. he isnt doing his job,he learned big boy
words and wrote a piece of trash ,and kissed the right butt so fox would
acknowledge him. he is not a expert i dont remember seeing his name
in any movie credits,or drafts .i havent sen him help do anything for the apes
but leach on. goapebilly

"Evolution" and "Impact" are
from the "Planet" Blu-Ray. Does Fox Channel show stuff uncut? That'd be funny if
they show the new "Conquest" but cut out all the violence!

I was just looking at TVGuide.com, and they have a program listed for
the 'Channel of the Apes' marathon that isn't even in the schedule listed
at http://www.foxmovie channel.com/ event/.
It's called 'Impact of the Planet of the Apes', and it's about the
marketing/merchandi sing of the series. It's scheduled to run- one time
only- on November 27th at 7:30 PM EST. Right now, FXM has 'Evolution of the
Apes' listed. I'll see if I can find out more info.
By my count,
there's five new things to be seen during the marathon:
- Fox Legacy:
Planet of the Apes with Tom Rothman
- Impact of the Planet of the
Apes
- Evolution of the Apes
- original cut of CONQUEST
-
BENEATH with corrected audio

I like some of Eric's ideas; and the stuff
he does for the DVDs are pretty straightforward. He just remembers his history
well. I think people just get miffed that there's so much emphasis on him. From
what I've heard they cut out A LOT of stuff and emphasize him on the Blu-Rays. I
was there when they interviewed Buck Kartalian. Gone. Most people only get a few
words. They filmed a solid gold Mego Cornelius, went to Apemania. They
interviewed people at length. Between this and "Behind" outtakes they have
enough unused stuff to release new DVDs every 5 years the rest of our lives.

I still have that site on disc. While Hunter has the first version, I have the second version when I began to countdown POTA 2001. The second version I have is both POTA 2001 and Classic Apes.
I'll most likely post it online as a secondary site on potacollective like Hunter did.

If it were presented on AMC or FX, then yes, it would be edited.

UGH. I cant believe that any Star Trek fan would enjoy the "new special" effects inserted into the classic episodes. They are just so out of place when cutting from scene to scene. I rank this debacle with Turner's 1990s attempt to colorizing King Kong and the "special editions" of Star Wars -- just how many times can George Lucas dry-hump a corpse???
Give me classic Star Trek the was it was meant to be. Amen.
Would anyone here have wanted FOX to insert new effects shots of Taylor's ship crash landing in the Forbidden Zone?

Looks interesting. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be another "Lost In Space."
Before DVD HD lost the battle against Blu-ray, I bought the Original Star Trek season one in HD. Really fantastic quality with all new special effects.
It's too bad they never finished the original seasons on HD DVD. Now I'm gonna have to wait on blu-ray to release it as well as the other ST series and motion pictures. But what an amazing job they did on the original season one. Really amazing.

Alert for: "planet of the apes"
"For another perspective on Blu-ray, I loaned the Sony player to Roger Moore, the Sentinel's movie critic. He watched the Blu-ray version of the first Planet of the Apes movie on a 42-inch 1080p TV and compared the experience with his usual disc=2
0player, a $40 model from RCA with HDMI connection.
"The blacks were superb, the colors clear and precise, the striations of the canyon walls in the desert locations of Apes were brilliant," Moore said. "But the ugly truth of the matter is that once you've got the 1080 HDTV, once you've bought a DVD player with HDMI cable connections, Blu-ray is superfluous. The features are fancier, but the picture? No improvement."
Bull@#*! I couldn't disagree more. I've A/B comparisoned both versions and not only is Blu-ray sharper and more detailed, but the print used for PLANET is an improvement over the 35th Anniversary transfer -- a vast improvement.

I always thought that a replica of the Scroll cannisters from the first film would make a nifty Disc case for the collection.
I like it, but I think most fans would find it boring.
By the way, the photo above is a good example of what you see on your TV screen when you look closely at a standard DVD. On Blu-ray the image would be sharper and more detailed.

.html Here are some notes I took while viewing a side by side comparison of
the unrated and theatrical versions of Conquest.
First up are the total running times for eachÂ…
Unrated: 87 minutes and 22 seconds
Theatrical: 86 minutes and 38 seconds
Visually there is no difference between the two until after the 61
minute mark. The first visual difference occurs when the apes wrestle
the flame-thrower away from the man in Ape Management. The unrated
version then starts to gain small bits of additional footage and by
the time the apes drag Breck outside, the unrated version is close to
2 minutes longer than the theatrical version. Once we get outside for
the final scene, the unrated version gains another minute of
additional footage. All told, the unrated version contains close to 3
minutes of unique footage, and of course the theatrical version
contains the unique "feel good" speech that is not present in the
unrated version. A complete edit could be easily be made by inserting
the "feel good" speech into the unrated version.
The press release from Fox claimed that the blu-ray "version includes
eight minutes of unrated footage." However as I stated there is
actually just under 3 minutes total of new footage in the unrated
version. No more, no less. (Hey Fox, maybe you should throw out that
sun-dial and invest in a stopwatch).
There are musical differences as well. Many of the fight scenes have a
completely different score, though again I did not notice any audio
difference until after the 61 minute mark (I could be wrong about the
audio since I was really concentrating on visual differences and not
paying too much attention to the audio).

Ape specs. ZOOM, another decade! I was in NY earlier this year, not near Long

as the extras and that's too bad. POTA deserves better and so do the fans who
keep forking over the dough (yeah, I got head when it came out). Only 5 years to
go until the 50th anniversary of the book. What could Fox do with

BBC1.
As a post apocalyuptic show about survivors of the human race it
perhaps may have some similarities with POTA, not sure but it may interest
some
Will definately be watching the show from the start
to see what the re imagining can do.
There is a mini site up at the BBC website, see the

Perhaps Fox was including the "unused" portion of the music score
when they came up with their missing "eight minutes" . I haven't seen
any of the blurays yet, they are on the way.I trust this is NOT the

themselves to future transfers.I wonder why teh PLANET audio is such
an issue as much of it was DUBBED in the studio. Joe Russo

When I was little I thought Nova and her tribe were the apes
though this may have been a deliberate red herring on the

just have been a kids low expectations prior to a new ground

.html Greetings, everyone. Since this has been a topic of late, I was
wondering if anyone else has noticed that the Italian movie poster
for "Escape" has three large color photos superimposed over Zira &
Cornelius on the run. The photo in the center is a large color photo
of the three chimps in their space suits sitting in the cabin of the
Icarus. That is just more proof that the sequence was actually filmed.

.htmlWell on the photos seen on the Blu-ray is not one of the standard ones of three actors sitting in the cockpit - it clearly shows flame through the window of the craft. Usually, for reasons of safety real fire wouldn't be used since the set is more than likely flammable. It's probably a "blue screen" processes. This means basic SFX were shot, or at least tested. Whether or not that footage was ever Incorporated into a ruff cut of the film we still don't know.
FOX or course might, or at least someone in the archives might. More than likely even if it does the it was all in the choice of FOX NOT to use it because this Blu release was not a studio blessed project. Only the alternate version of CONQUEST show involvement in terms of something new. The rest is outside produced. (Featurettes, stills press materials and of course packaging. When different studio dept. are used the various people pulled from their regular duties have to been allocated time which is paid by the given dept - in this case the Home Video Division. That eats becomes part of the budget given for that said project. If the Home Video Dept leader doesn't allocate it it won't get done. Which is why I refer to this release as a marketing firm release and NOT a studio one. The studio was lucky enough to get most of the new material from certain fans - probably for little or no real cost.
To put more trailers, spots, missing footage, even raw footage would take studio time from archives to find, sort and then send it out to development and then transfer. All this costs money which FOX obviously didn't want to spend. This release was simply an easy extension of what they had done previous on standard DVD. They just added minimal time and effort (especially from the studio) to "enhance" it for Blu. The reason we got the alternate version of CONQUEST is not to creativity but marketing. Whenever a mastering of the film or series is done it can be exploited not only for the initial reason it's considered (this case the Blu release) but for cable. OOOh, and what do you know, the alternate version of CONQUEST is being aired THIS MONTH! Then there's foreign markets both for Home Video release, and cable. Features however are not as marketable and done primarily for Home Video - except when a
studio has its very own station or channel and can use it - imagine that - but that's not always the case. Which is why this Blu release is most fodder and something that looks good on the shelf but very little else.

.html.html Well, the only reason I had to upgrade was because I bought my blu-ray player 8 months ago. So if you buy one today you shouldn't have any problem with up upgrading.
But let me tell you all something really amazing.
I just bought a new Sony LCD TV a couple of days ago with the 120Hz Motion Enhancer. This thing totally blew me away. The 120 Hz super enhances the picture image on your screen to near 3D appearance giving you incredible depth quality to any movie. Blu-ray, cable, you name it. While also giving you a "real time" flow to everything on screen. Kind of like looking at a movie through a "real time" camcorder type motion. I've never seen anything like this. Little lone seeing Planet of the Apes in this way.
If anyone is also in the market for an LCD TV as well, I HIGHLY - HIGHLY recomend buying a LCD TV with 120Hz Motion Enhancer!!!
I originally have a 32" Sony but decided to get a 40" Sony to replace my Plasma which I runed around and sold. Best decision I've ever made!!
With the 120Hz Motion Enhancer, I promise you, you will never see movies quite the same again.

Hey all I have been watching the Apes Bluray set disc by disc. My Escape doens't work so I moved on to Conquest until I get my replacement disc for Escape. When watching Conquest last night I noticed that both versions seem to be darker in color than previous releases. Any one else notice this? I adjusted my TV settings but the picture still seems to be very dark in color. For instance, the part in the opening where Caesar is messing with the guard and his clipboard after he gets off the helicopter, it is so dark you can hardly see Caesars face. Any one else notice this?

.html conquest was always very dark and rich even though at one point they
were going to optically desaturate it in the lab. bruce surtees the
cinematographer always used natural light {exsisting light] and film
stock was always granier in those days but they wanted that look for
conquest because they wanted a documentary feel to it. when you push a
film like conquest to be brighter it ends up looking like the 1992
laser disc release from cbs-fox, what crap. my home equiptment is
calabrated and let me say the video is almost perfect atleast compared
to all the other video releases of conquest. the audio is always
proplamatic. someone mentioned that the luchin music on the isolated
track was awfull. it at first was just to be background music to the
restaraunt scene and was to end as soon as armando and caesar left the
place and not go into the ape being beaten but i guess they just left
the isolated tracks go till they finish. also the people hired to do
the film score always do more music than the scene requires so that the
director and music editor have much to choose from, thats the only
reason why most tracks execept the credit [theme]music are always
longer than whats in the movie. john m <.html

and it is good but do not go past the lowest setting. films should look
like films not game shows. most auto settings for color and black level
should be cut off too. go to tweaktv.com and see what some pros and
semipros like myself say and do to their tvs. john m <.html

That scene was very dark in the last DVD release, too. It's true that
it's daytime, but they apparently filmed it with some sort of filter
that makes it a dark scene, despite the sunlight. And then the
transfers make it even darker.

That's the big question. J.J. Abrams is more miss than hit with me. M:I 3
was terrible, and most of what he writes/produces has the same ridiculous theme
over and over and over (which I've written about here before so I won't go into
it again). Cloverfield is probably the lone exception to that rule, but he
didn't write that either and was also too involved with Star Trek to mess
Cloverfield up.
I'm curious about Star Trek, but I won't be the least bit surprises if it
sucks big time.

Meh. It was OK. Seemed kind of rushed, but at the same time I realize that
a 60 second clip probably takes them two months to produce. There was a pretty
funny running gag of The Emperor consistently ragging on Darth Vader, and one
that recreated what would have been the dinner scene from EMPIRE. But that
was from an earlier episode in Season 3, so when they're reusing material (like
they did with the first Star Wards special), you have to wonder why the quality
of the new material wasn't better. There were a few other segments that were
pretty funny as well, but I can't think of them right now.
