.html The original Land of the Lost holds a special place in the hearts of many POTA fans since Ron Harper joined the Saturday morning series in its second season. Because of that there were some who were not happy about it being remade as a Will Ferrell comedy. Well it seems that they may just get the last laugh. Not only was the film poorly reviewed but it came in third in yesterday's box office, after The Hangover and Up, doing barely half of Up's business. How the rest of the weekend shakes out remains to be seen but this has to be a bad sign for a film that was meant to be a major tentpole for Universal this summer. <.html

They usually get the actor and CG their face or
facial movements into the film clip with the new dialog. Or sometimes the
celebrity actually steps in, if they haven't changed that much.

I'm pretty sure it's him--so far, all of the Direct TV ads have
featured actors recreating scenes from their films or TV shows
(William Shatner from Star Trek VI, Sigourney Weaver from Aliens, Ben
Stein from Ferris Bueler's Day Off, Christopher Lloyd from Back to
the Future, Charlie Sheen from Major League, Bill Paxton from
Twister, Pam Anderson from Baywatch, Jessica Simpson from Dukes of
Hazzard, Shannon Elizabeth from American Pie, Craig T. Nelson from
Poltergeist, Kathy Bates from Misery, Robert Patrick from Terminator
2, Christie Brinkley from Vacation, and so forth). They shoot new
footage with the actors, using the original sets and costumes if
they're available, and CGI'ing them to de-age if they have to (some
do, some don't). <.html

The original Land of the Lost holds a special place in the hearts of many POTA fans since Ron Harper joined the Saturday morning series in its second season.

I met him at the NYC Comic Con this past February- really nice guy. I
actually managed to stump him as he didn't remember the book (DC's

work he's done over the years that doesn't really surprise me. And since some of
you are saying "Silver what?": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silverblade.
Also met Len Wein and Jim Shooter- also really cool guys to talk to,
Shooter had some interesting stories about The Korvac Saga he wrote in The
Avengers 167-177 back in the late 70's. And again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korvac.
The only person I wanted to meet but didn't was Keith Giffen. He was supposed to
be in artist Alley, but he ended up floating around the various DC
panels where they were pimping whatever their big thing is for 2009.

in Los Angeles one month earlier, on Wednesday, June 13! Who knew? On
Sunday, June 10 (see attached PDF), there was a big ad in the LA Times
explaining what was going to happen. On Tuesday, June 12, they would show
all four previous films, followed by "the newest and biggest epic of them
all" at 8:30 PM. Seeing as how it wouldn't open in New York for another
month (and hadn't even officially opened in LA yet), I can't imagine an
earlier "all five films marathon" than June 12, 1973.

I'm a yes as well, though my interest is mainly in the 8" line of figures

There was a store in NYC (now closed) that had a set of four carded Teen

that he and I attended. They're currently up on Hunter's site.

The problem is that scenes like this are probably buried in a salt mine
somewhere in an improperly marked film container that's stored among tens of
thousands of film containers, and Fox doesn't want to shell out the money for
someone to literally go digging and checking each thing out. Understandably this
would be a very time consuming process, but had someone done their job correctly
in the first place then the extra material wouldn't have been lost. Honestly,
I'm surprised they found the original cut of CONQUEST. Agreed though that
particular scene foreshadowed the ending, though I also firmly believe the
bleeding Lawgiver statue did the exact same thing even though at that point in
the story the audience didn't know what the Alpha Omega bomb was capable
of.
I've always presumed the 'Ring Around O' Neutrons' sequence (taken
from Dehn's own Quake, Quake, Quake: A Leaden Treasury of English
Verse) was deliberately edited that way because Post didn't really like it.
But again, that footage obviously had to be shot, and I always thought it would
be kind of unnerving for Brent to all of a sudden have these people standing and
watching him be escorted by the two guards since his original
journey from Queensboro Plaza to St. Patrick's Cathedral showed no signs of
life.
Chris L.
>>If it still exists in some repairable form, might not this the cut
scene of Mendez XXVI kneeling in prayer before his ancestor, Mendez I, warrant
recommendation for restoration and reincorporation into a future restored
edition of "Beneath The Planet of the Apes"? After all, that scene would
definitely have ratched up the tension since it further forshadows the
possibility of doom. After all, since Time Immemorial, a leader praying to an
ancestor in times of crisis has sometimes been a worrisome sign of desperation
or futility if not outright doom. I would like the "Ring Around The
Neutrons / A pocketful of Positrons / A fission! A fission! / We all fall down!"
nursery rhyme sequence (apparently shot but cut) performed by the mutant
children (as Brent is first escorted to the presence of the mutant leaders)
restored to the film as well. <<
I wrote:
color=#1e66ae>http://www.paulrich ards.net/ pr_film.htm) and
scroll down until the entry for BENEATH. The oft referenced scene where
Mendez is praying before the bust of his Ancestor Mendez I. I always thought
that was a subtly intense moment where the guard (while searching for Nova)
came across Mendez kneeling down in front of the bust and being disturbed
at the image. It was included in both the Marvel comic adaptation
and paperback novelization by Michael Avallone, but- along with so many
other things- cut from the film. Looking at the photo, it's
pretty obvious that all the busts were based on Paul Richard's likeness.

I believe that Cornelius & Zira's arrival brought about the
alternate timeline. For example, instead of the 500 years from slavery to
rebellion that Zira mentions, it now takes place in (I think) seven.
CONQUEST was set in 1991, so subtract the year (1983? 1984?) on the cat
& dog statue that Armando shows Caesar and that's how long it took. He also
implies genetic engineering, which could have had something to do with Cornelius
& Zira as well. I'm sure that their physiology was thoroughly studied after
they were murdered.
Chris L.
>>Which is why as I've always said that the case can be made that
an alternate timeline was created by Caesar's actions in Battle but not
before. <<<.html

I worked in a video store back in the mid 80's and followed VCRs/videotape
releases pretty intently before then, and when the Playhouse Video versions
were solicited that was supposedly the first time that ESCAPE, CONQUEST, and
BATTLE were released for home viewing. BENEATH originally came out in 1978 on
Magnetic Video, then PLANET two years later in one of those slide out tray
boxes. It was later rereleased in a regular VHS sized box, then all five
were released by Playhouse Video in 1985.
Do you still have the five apes films on Betamax, and if so do they have
the year of release on them?
Chris L.
>>I did that when I got the Fox Playhouse VHS versions years
later-before that set they wanted 60.00 for the first film alone on VHS.
<<
>>When I got my Sony betamax in 1978, I bought the whole series of
the apes movies and watch it non-stop during a three day weekend.

Using the "500 years from slavery to rebellion" always falls apart for me. The audience never witnesses these events. The characters who relate them, Cornelius & Zira, didn't witness them either. The source for C&Z was the Sacred Scrolls written by the Lawgiver and since he presumably didn't live for 500 years he didn't witness them either. He was most likely recording a history that had been passed down and possibly distorted through the centuries. So there no direct conclusive evidence that the "500 years from slavery to rebellion" happened exactly as related. It is hearsay of hearsay of hearsay of hearsay.
On top of that it contradicts what had been established in the first two films as well as Cornelius' earlier statement in Escape that the Apes had been speaking English for 2,000 years.

But in all the cases you pointed if it weren't the original actor it would be recognized. This is a case where no one would know the difference. I'm not saying that it is not Duncan but just asking the question does anyone have any conclusive info that it is him.

Thanks Tim so much for the great list
did you go through Sausville's book and just
tabulate a list from all the items he had in the book
do you know any history about these
companies?
Does anyone know how these particular companies put
out products?
Did they individually approach 20th Century
Fox or was it the other way around?
How did so many companies get products put out so
quickly
does anyone have information on items that were
already available and/or in stores by September 1974 ??
Here you go Terry .....maybe you could put this in the

Sorry but that's just not true. 45% may not pay income taxes but all pay payroll taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, etc.

I think the info MAY have originated on Chris Shields' Icarus website. Wherever it originates it's as silly a name for Brent's ship as Icarus is for Taylor's.

I worked in a video store back in the mid 80's and followed VCRs/videotape releases pretty intently before then, and when the Playhouse Video versions were solicited that was supposedly the first time that ESCAPE, CONQUEST, and BATTLE were released for home viewing. BENEATH originally came out in 1978 on Magnetic Video, then PLANET two years later in one of those slide out tray boxes. It was later rereleased in a regular VHS sized box, then all five were released by Playhouse Video in 1985.
Do you still have the five apes films on Betamax, and if so do they have the year of release on them?
Chris L.
>>I did that when I got the Fox Playhouse VHS versions years later-before that set they wanted 60.00 for the first film alone on VHS. <<
>>When I got my Sony betamax in 1978, I bought the whole series of the apes movies and watch it
non-stop during a three day weekend. <<
