Planet Of The Apes. Still enjoyable and looking good. Circumvents the haircut issue by putting the astronauts on a ling trip. You'd expect the apes to look terrible, but they don't. And the ending is still cool. ...

Well i dont believe it, forget star trek .
Dr Who is one of the longest running sci-fi programmes of all time.
For a t.v programme it ranks up there with the best.
Maybe just behind pota

Remember, Mark, that I've been on the Planet of the Apes. A lot of this Sci Fi stuff is new to me. I've never seen Star Wars either. I know the main characters but I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies from beginning to end. I don't know if you can call that an accomplishment, but it is what it is.

Definitely a fan, but a relative newbie (five years or so).

I started from scratch (episode one with William Hartnell) and have
slowly worked my way through about half of Jon Pertwee's run.

So, I've got a long ways to go, but I'm going to do it!

Pertwee?????? God you have got a long way to go he was a good Dr , Him and Baker where the best until the last two that have taken the part.
Tennant is said to be the best in years if not the best.
However i dont agree without some of the previous we would not be where we are now.
Dont forget the two movies also

There's nothing wrong with being on pota's but because they have not made any for a bloody long time ( fox sort it out? ) we have sometimes been seduced by other sci-fi.
Or even grown up with it, Blake Seven , Red Dwarf , Logans Run , Land of the Giants, Space 1999 , Flash Gordan ( original ) Time Tunnel , Lost in Space,Star Trek sorry for the ones that i have left out two many to mention .

1. A job
2. A wife
3. Four dogs
4. A LOT of other interests!

Wish I could sit around all day doing nothing but watch "Doctor Who," but life goes on, bra!

I keep bringing this up because it's good to know where Fox is coming from with their sci-fi flicks.Plus it's, well, sci-fi flicks! "Entertainment Weekly" says that Fox doesn't want to move on their "Alien" prequel unless Sir Ridley Scott himself directs. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20283385,00.html"
That's probably not an option, though after a long courtship they managed to get Oliver Stone for "Wall Street 2" (his first movie for the studio since the aborted "Planet of the Apes" variation). Scott has reportedly caught sci-fi fever 3 decades after his revered "Alien" and "Blade Runner" but his eye is  on Joe Haldeman's classic "The Forever War"  http://www.variety.com/VR1117993856.html" and maybe "Brave New World". Sir ain't directing an "Alien" movie, sir. Will Fox take no Sir for an answer? And does this mean they'll want a more seasoned director for "Caesar"?

This is one of the problems with Wikipedia and similar sites. Some of the people making entries and revisions don't stick to the straight facts but instead add in their own interpetations and pet theories.

Thanks Jeff. It's good to know the goings on at FOX since it impacts the fate of any future POTA films.

"Entertainment Weekly" says that Fox doesn't want to move on their "Alien" prequel unless Sir Ridley Scott himself directs. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20283385,00.html
    > That's probably not an option, though after a long courtship they managed to get Oliver Stone for "Wall Street 2" (his first movie for the studio since the aborted "Planet of the Apes" variation). Scott has reportedly caught sci-fi fever 3 decades after his revered "Alien" and "Blade Runner" but his eye is on Joe Haldeman's classic "The Forever War" http://www.variety.com/VR1117993856.htmland maybe "Brave New World". Sir ain't directing an "Alien" movie, sir. Will Fox take no Sir for an answer? And does this mean they'll want a more seasoned director for "Caesar"?

What's interesting is the POTA TV series was a big hit in the UK in the '70s. Maybe because there was so much SF on TV there the audience was more open to something like the POTA TV series than audiences in the US.

Talk about a comeback. Maybe there was something to all those religious epics he did. Actually, the divine intervention is the folks who shot the movie "Genghis Khan" with Charlton Heston in 1992 and then ran out of money. Now they're looking to finish the movie and release it. Doesn't sound like the recipe for a quality film but if it's any good it'll be one last "new" performance in a movie theater with Chuck. The late Pat Morita is also in it.

Definitely the best one yet! Without spoiling too much, you’re filling in a gap that explains much about the content in the Sacred Scrolls.

Although I caught one typo at the bottom of the second paragraph…check the end of the last sentence.

I look forward to hearing more about the early history of Ape City and the world of Man, as reported through Virgil’s POV.

I went to school at St. A's and was over there lately. Was shocked that they had demolished the Marboro. I saw both Beneath and Escape there along with many other films when I was a kid. At least they've kept some other old theaters, like the Walker, standing and just redid the interiors so they could funtion as retail stores.

Speaking of the Walker I saw Planet there in the summer of '68 on a double bill with One Million BC. Thank you William, I really loved seeing the ad for it that you sent earlier this week.

I've finally read the original novel (English translation) from Boulle. His oblique references to the white race make me wonder if he was comparing the decline and fall of the French Empire to that of POTA. I.e., the oppressed, dark-skinned races/species rising up to dominate their former colonial masters, and that one day, white Europeans, having lost their will, would become the enslaved. Has this been explored? The timing of his novel might support this view.

Interesting premise Freddy. In the early 60s the French were forced out of Algeria and it became an independent country. So while Boulle might not of been directly commenting on that event, it may well have influenced him.

Actors from the latter sequels were seen quite a bit the past two
weekends. William Windom as a Record Company Executive (with ties to "The

prisoner whose brother wanted him freed or else he would release a nerve

blackmailing a high ranking member of "The Syndicate".

True, although I have no idea how long they'd been running some of the programs. Green Hornet was on it's fourth cycle through from when I started watching, but that was only a season long to begin with. For some strange reason, they only showed certain episodes from Batman- all of the first Season, some of the second, then back to the beginning again. So alas, no third season Batgirl.

What's going to happen now though is that the remaining programming is definitely going to get played to death because it's been slotted in four nights a week. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights will be various theatrical and made-for-TV movies. In fact, one featuring Don Murray ("Cotter") was supposed to be on this past Friday night, but instead there was a generic 80's western TV movie. It doesn't bode well if you can't even properly broadcast your scheduled programming during the second week of your station's relaunch.

Agreed. Bruce Greenwood and Simon Pegg were good in their roles as far as recasting is concerned, but Karl Urban channeled the original character the best of anyone. Except Leonard Nimoy of course, who was far above *anyone* else in the film.

Exactly Mark. Unfortunately, this is the same logic he used in regards to the rare POTA footage that commonly circulates among fan circles. Just because he (supposedly) dug it up, he feels that no one else had to right to circulate it and that it's "his" to do with as he chooses. My guess is that Fox would have a different point of view on that. If these were photographs he took himself (or a documentary he produced himself), then he *might* have an argument as far as usage is concerned, but he certainly cannot lay any claim to ownership of the contents of the photographs.

If he can prove he ownes the rights then he is within the copyright laws to take legal action.
But i dont personally think this would happen because then fox could also be involved because of them being taken on set <<<.html

Interesting! I never considered that the novel was allegorical. I'll have to read it again and see what you mean. I'm not a White supremacist by any means, but I picked up David Duke's autobiography purely out of curiosity and I can see how Western Europeans, especially with the influx of immigrants, might see them as subverting and replacing Western culture. With the declining fertility rate of White Europeans and the resulting reliance on immigrants, primarily Muslims, I can see how their fears might be translated into PotA. I'll see ifI can find my copy of PotA and try to read ity from that perspective.

No, not *that* planet of apes.. A parallel one.

Marvel has done a series of 8 comics set between our world and an ape world, complete with super-hero simians,

Spider-Monkey among them. No mention of any popular films such as 'planet of the humans'..

I think the series didn't do too well (maybe I should have posted this earlier)
but you can still order up the individual issues..

Nothing new. DC did this around the time of POTA2001. I did an "Ape Chronicles" cover of Marvel heroes as apes (including a "Spider-Monkey") around 1993. : )

Subject: OT: Is Hulu killing show biz?
      .html
      .html
Hulu and other sites where shows and clips can be seen without too much fuss are sometimes linked from the groups, so I thought it pertinent to bring this up. The Biz is reportedly losing their shirts over this. Shows that people love and watch online are getting cancelled because advertisers aren't going to support them if their ads aren't seen.
Yeah, we hate ads, we hate paying for something, and we can go on about greedy studios but at a certain point these things have to make some money or they cease to exist. What is the responsibility for those of us who enjoy these productions? It's the same controversy across the board: the internet is killing the music industry, the internet is killing newspapers, the internet is killing books.
Is it just evolution? Soon everything will come from our computers? And what will the apes dig up in the future? A bunch of dead computers they can't plug in?
