.htmlits obvious to me that its the set up for the scene when the two gorillas drop heston into the horse and caraige. most photos are taken after or before the ,motion picture camera stops. the still photographer waits till cut! then snaps away. thats why most pictures arent exactly the same from the film. he would be in the way and his noise would be picked up by the sound man. some photos are direct copies of the 35mm print but thats rare.sometimes a director will allow a few shots during rehersal but actors dont like that,so its rarely done.i have all 44 of those topps cards and almost all of them are not exactly in the film...i hope this is some kind of an answer... john m

I was lucky enough to fill in a few missing ones at a Chiller Theater convention a few years back. My question is about Card #12 (link to photo: https://pota.goatley.com/movie_cards/original/pota-movie-card-12.jpg). As near as I can tell, this scene never made it into the final movie. Judging by the people sitting in the backround - it doesn't look like the director had yelled "action" yet. Does anyone recall seeing this scene on video - perhaps as a deleted scene or promo? This question has been nagging at me for years, and I figured that you folks would be the ones to ask.

.htmlWelcome Rich,
Yes, many here can answer almost any question you might have. This is
the home of POTA nerds, some already into retirement. Anyway....
In regards to the photo on the Topps PLANET card #12: Many of the
cards feature rehearsal shots, not stills of actually frames of the
film or stills taken during takes that ended up in the final cut. In
the case of #12, that's a rehearsal shot. You can see the actors on
the ground, playing dead humans, sitting up. This scene in the movie
is part of a somewhat elaborate tracking shot just after the conclusion
of the hunt. It starts with a boy being carried out of the cornfield
by a gorilla and ends with the wounded Taylor being placed in a wagon.
Several gorillas walk into and out of the shot as well as a couple
horses, a wagon, and actors playing "dead" humans either hung up or
laid out. I'm sure it took some time to set up and shoot. In the film
you see the woman who's being carried by the gorilla in card #12 -- and
looking not too comfortable in that still -- brought into frame and
laid among the dead humans. The man being carried in the photo on the
card looks to have already been put down in the final shot as it
appears in the finished film.

Hello,
New to the group and am enjoying sifting through all the messages.
I have a question about a scene from the original movie. I have nearly
the entire collection of the original POTA cards from way back when. I
was lucky enough to fill in a few missing ones at a Chiller Theater
convention a few years back. My question is about Card #12 (link to

As near as I can tell, this scene never made it into the final movie.
Judging by the people sitting in the background - it doesn't look like

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been buying and selling for many years and the
price...always...goes...up...except for the Burton APES stuff. You can't GIVE

With
the economy right now, I'd hang on to everything and hope that five to ten

the prices for the film's posters, etc. continue to rise such as the
Universal Horror stuff has?

I should have added that just because the price (or should I say VALUE)
goes up does not mean people are buying them! That goes for the majority
of collectibles (that weren't made in the millions).

.html.html I'm with you on those thoughts.....sometimes I stand in the room and think what the hell am I gonna do with this crap? Friends say .,...that's your retirement.....and I tell them....whose gonna buy it??? But I do love having it all and I still get a thrill finding something I didn't have before..... I like to think some museum somewhere will buy it someday..... Willing it to a next generation doesn't seem fair....because they would have to deal with selling it all on ebay or wherever! Too much trouble! I am getting rid of everything else though!~

i was looking at your stuff and the only difference i see to mine in general is that you were smart enough to buy the old[mego] toys i bet.my room now is a bathroom size room off my bedroom that contains every size shape poster and lobby card color and bw photos ,pressbooks etc.etc. it was appraised at about 60 grand but when i recently retired and was curious to sell to some of the same people that priced my collection they only wanted to give me about 10-15 grand. the stuff sells look at the prices on some online outlets that i mentioned on earlier posts. point being what will we due with our stuff near our final days .give to our kids[most of dont really care for the stuff],will it back to fox[yeah right]. i would like to sell to people who would love and cherrish them like i did but i hope thats atleast 40 years from now.whos willing to spend anymore for this type of passion.this
generation does not share the same affinity toward stuff like this.its the digital age and our stuff takes up to much room.watching the marathon it just got me alittle sad about who will keep our legacy going....john m

You're probably thinking of Movieland Wax
Museum, which was by Knott's Berry Farm, not Disneyland. They closed it a few
years ago and sold off the figures.
I know Michael Jackson bought a Zira figure

I'm not so sure--no Space Shuttle crashes in the 2001 version. We see a space station and a one-seat pod crash in that film, neither of which really resemble a Space Shuttle. It's the 1968 film that looks more Space Shuttle-esque.

Have you ever noticed in the film that the model seems to have no glass

it's being pulled down.

They did the same thing with the CBGB's bathroom.
It's not in Las Vegas of all places. The weirdest one
I ever heard of was doing a public restroom with the
bricks from the garage where the St. Valentine's Day

OK, so far here's what I have:
- BENEATH NATO Presentation
- BENEATH teaser trailer
- aged Galen footage (which would work very well considering that they run
the five TV movies)
- the "That's Hollywood" episode dedicated to the POTA series
I'm also going to suggest the various different TV spots for all five films
(and the TV series if Fox had anything to do with them) would be a
curiosity to see (only the ones for BENEATH have been released officially), but
these will definitely be at the bottom of the list.
If anyone can think of anything else, let me know.
Thanks,

Absolutely!! And then I can lay claim to the clips because I helped unearth
them and get pissed when FMC starts running them between movies and they get
recorded by Apes fans and I don't get compensated and... (oh, nevermind).

I have to wonder if it's actually the model used in the film. I
thought Bill Creber still had it.
Have you ever noticed in the film that the model seems to have no glass

it's being pulled down.

mutant HQ looks suspiciously similar to the Ape Management set from
CONQUEST. In fact, there's that one scene in CONQUEST (when you see Ape
Management for the first time and the guard is bringing Caesar through
it) where the camera pans up from the control panel in front of that one
long window overlooking the large training area. I'll have to dig out my
DVDs and double check, but it almost seems like Thompson repeated that
camera technique in BATTLE to show what had happened to the very same

Exactly. But I've seen plenty of stuff that was real that was not
protected. When TITANIC first came out, the Planet Hollywood in San
Diego had bunches of props from that hanging unprotected on the
ceilings and walls.
I've seen the ship in Orlando and have no idea if it's real or not.
But whether it is or not did nothing to diminish the fun of seeing it

Which marathon were you watching? I caught parts (or the entirety) of all
the different features FMC ran, and the only one that was
questionable was BACK TO THE PLANET OF THE APES. The picture wasn't as
clear as the other four telemovies (which all looked very good) and the sound
was in mono whereas the other four were stereo.
I know that Fox has messed up with this franchise more often than not, but
let's not go **looking** for problems either...

Chris isn't the only one who just noticed....during CONQUEST I got sick of listening to Don Murray babble on so I was checking out the background....there is a bank of 4 computer screens behind him on the wall while he pontificates with screens that flash on and off...they're still working in BATTLE and that's when I realized that all or part of the set was re-used.

After watching the bumps I and looking at the pics I
now know what it is that bug me about Apemania's
Zira. There's no hump pad on her shoulders under
her dress, and her neck is too long. That and a
lack of make up on her skin makes it stick out
like a sore thumb. Were some of the bumps
new. I didn't recall seeing McDowall holding

Or the Boulle retrospective. Were they added
