Dear Chris
I didn't know they had cut it. The films were shown on
television in the seventies around the time of the TV series I think. I saw them
all out of order
at the local cinema, in doubles bills before they were
shown on telly. I saw Beneath and Battle as a double bill (LOL) which caused me
(10 or eleven )and my friends to think that Battle must have come before beneath
for some reason and if you look at the time line I suppose it does
LOL.
Have a great winter break and a magical new
year.

I'll have to check it out, but it's hard to justify that $10 price tag
sometimes. Admittedly, it's a very packed magazine as far as content goes
though.
Give a shout if they cover 1970. I'd definitely be interested in their take
on BENEATH considering how heavily edited the film was during it's initial
theatrical run over in the UK (as well as when the film made it to television).
And for those of you who don't know what I'm referring to:
"A heavily edited version of the film was shown on British television
c.1991 which excised most of the violent and horrific scenes, most notably from
the last third of the film, including both scenes where Brent is forced to
attack Nova, the revelation of the underground humans true appearance, the fight
Brent & Taylor are forced to have in the prison cell, the killing of the
mutant guard on a spiked door, and much of the shoot-out at the film's climax.
This was identical to the original BBFC-cut cinema version. All UK video and DVD
releases are upgraded to a '15' certificate and feature the fully uncut
version."
(from the IMDB)
It'd be interesting to hear from one of the UK members if they remember any
of this. Also, was 1991 the first time the Apes films made it onto television
over there?
Chris L.
John (again):
>>They don't follow a time line. They just pick good years. The next
issue has an article about POTA in the series "best Sci-Fi ever" that has
included Alien, Star Wars etc <<
I wrote:
>>I finally found a copy (issue 34) this past week (Barnes &
Noble is a full month behind), and I noticed in their 'Time Warp/The Year That
Was...' section that they covered 1971. So not only was ESCAPE mentioned, but
also great films like THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, THE OMEGA MAN, THX 1138, and one of
the best Science Fiction TV series ever: UFO. This got me to thinking that-
presumably- the previous issue would cover 1970 and as such, BENEATH would be
included. Does anyone here have a copy of issue 33 who could verify?

Anyone wear their dogtags? I've been wearing the one that says Planet of the Apes (not Landon's, because I don't really like him).

That would be my wish too. All the photographs from
Fox's archives finally available plus a collection of all the publicity shots,
the photographers from the toy companies and magazines etc all collected
together into a big coffee table type book. They've done it for other franchises
(Trek, Star Wars, Bond etc) maybe we pull something together between each
other?
Have a fantastic Winter Break and a Magical New

I was thinking how it would be cool to travel back in time and be there on the set to watch them make the movie from beginning to end. To just hang out and see the actors being made up...watching them eat in their appliances...wow. To be flown by helicopter to the crash site on the lake...to see the actors inbetween takes, see what the do while the wait on Zuma beach inbetween scenes...That would be so incredible. That totally won't happen but if I have to dream big, that would be it.

Foam doesn't hold up too well over time.
It tends to break down. If you've ever seen
anything over 20 years old with any sort of
foam rubber padding or insulation you'll know
what I mean. I saw some original appliances
and they didn't look so good. Not something
I'd want on my Christmas list, unless you've
got that DeLorean up and running.

Do you think you can sculpt a good gorilla head for the Sideshow gorillas? I have two, but I've never liked the sculpt they did. I'll capture some gorilla images for you.

I hit a snag. I made a mold, made a couple of casts...painted it up. Looks meh. Anyway, I drilled the hole for the Sideshow body neck plug, and he's PINHEADED! Aw shucks! Anyway, no biggie. I just ordered some material (PanoCast 160) that will enlarge it. So...the quest for Burke is still on.

I would love to have an original wagon from the hunt (if I could find a place to keep it) or the scale model of ape city used as a reference to construct the actual set.

Do you think you can add Julius as well? I want to make him too. Plus, the Dodge screenshots you sent me were UBER helpful!!! I would like something like that again.
While you're at it, can you add Landon to the pile? I know...I know...give a chimp a cookie and they ask for some grape juice plus. Jess. On Thu, Dec 31, 2009 at 12:57 PM, <Haristas@...> wrote:

Just for the sake of accuracy....
Those are chimp extras on the left (you can see that their eyes are blackened under their sunglasses for wearing the over-the-head masks), Linda Harrison sits in front, two wardrobe or makeup women behind, a gorilla of course, and the guy sitting down on the right, looking up, is Kim Hunter's makeup man, Leo Lotito, Jr., who died just last year.

Thanks for another great photo William. Not to be critical, but I think the two women on the right are background chimp extras with their pullover masks taken off, and the guy on the right I believe is Leo Lotito Jr., Kim Hunter's makeup man.

Hey
everyone,
I just thought I'd share with you pictures of a custom Liberty -1 space
craft model! It is a 1/6th scale project that Apes fan Chris Hight is working
on. Chris has been recreating the ship for use with the Sideshow 12 inch
Figures, based on the actual set blueprints. Check out the amazing pics
below!
Obviously
this is still a work in progress, but its looking fantastic. In time, Chris
hopes to complete the Liberty - but what Chris doesn't know yet might
kill him! As you know, The Liberty-1 (formerly the Icarus) is
somewhat of an enigma - with only its command module sticking out of Dead
Lake in the beginning of the original Planet of the Apes - and while
there are several theories online as to the design of the the rest of the
ship, it has not been officially revealed... until now.
In Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes, we will be showing for the
first time ever, the official design of the REST of the Liberty
starship, as conceptionalized by myself and an influential film designer
whose name will be revealed in time!
Suffice to say, the portion of Liberty - 1 we do see in the film is
just the tip of the iceberg - there is much more to the vessel that propelled
Taylor, Landon and the rest of the crew to the future, and their final fates.
Have a Happy New Year!
-Drew G.

I think taking a photo of a young Fox "star" on a sound stage phone was a standard publicity shot back in the day at the studio. I've seen the same type of behind-the-scenes photos for other Fox movies, such as Robert Wagner in PRINCE VALIANT in 1953.
There's probably shots of actors in ape makeup on the same phone.
