The new issue of SciFiNow (#36) has a two page feature by Ed Gross on why the original POTA is the greatest sci fi movie ever (agreed!!!Apart from Beneath, obviously) and the new SFX (#191)has a Simpsons feature with a pic from the Apes musical. Nice.John, Scrolls.

Well, as it turns out, this was apparently all very well known in "Apes Fandom" circles. Two identical 8 foot statues of "The Lawgiver" (see photo at left) were apparently made as props for the original 1968 film Planet of the Apes. ...

Dear Chris

I didn't know they had cut it. The films were shown on television in the seventies around the time of the TV series I think. I saw them all out of order
at the local cinema, in doubles bills before they were shown on telly. I saw Beneath and Battle as a double bill (LOL) which caused me (10 or eleven )and my friends to think that Battle must have come before beneath for some reason and if you look at the time line I suppose it does LOL.

Have a great winter break and a magical new year.

I'll have to check it out, but it's hard to justify that $10 price tag sometimes. Admittedly, it's a very packed magazine as far as content goes though.

Give a shout if they cover 1970. I'd definitely be interested in their take on BENEATH considering how heavily edited the film was during it's initial theatrical run over in the UK (as well as when the film made it to television). And for those of you who don't know what I'm referring to:

"A heavily edited version of the film was shown on British television c.1991 which excised most of the violent and horrific scenes, most notably from the last third of the film, including both scenes where Brent is forced to attack Nova, the revelation of the underground humans true appearance, the fight Brent & Taylor are forced to have in the prison cell, the killing of the mutant guard on a spiked door, and much of the shoot-out at the film's climax. This was identical to the original BBFC-cut cinema version. All UK video and DVD releases are upgraded to a '15' certificate and feature the fully uncut version."

(from the IMDB)

It'd be interesting to hear from one of the UK members if they remember any of this. Also, was 1991 the first time the Apes films made it onto television over there?

John (again):

issue has an article about POTA in the series "best Sci-Fi ever" that has included Alien, Star Wars etc <<

This got me to thinking that- presumably- the previous issue would cover 1970 and as such, BENEATH would be included. Does anyone here have a copy of issue 33 who could verify? <<

Hello James!

Happy Holidays! To answer your question your previous email, the book has been delayed until the Fall 2010, but we should have advance copies available for sale at San Diego Comic Con 2010. Attached please find an exclusive image and a sketch of the cover for you to post. The exclusive painting is by artist Dan Dussault and is entitled 'The Bridge to Ape City'. The cover sketch is by Jim Steranko.

Also, can you please post the message below on your board in a way that allows the links to be visible? I want to make sure all your members have a chance to purchase the prints and sign up for the twitters, myspace, and facebook, and conspiracy list. Thanks!

Always exciting to see new ape images!
Anyone wear their dogtags? I've been wearing the one that says Planet of the Apes (not Landon's, because I don't really like him).

Thanks!
-Drew

In addition to that, Any order from now until February 1, 2010 will receive a free unannounced 10th bio trading card - featuring Dr. Cornelius!

Labeled '0 of 9', this extremely limited collectible is yours free with any order placed here! Simply write the text: STINKING PAWS in the notes on your PAYPAL order, and this card will be sent to you with you order.

Since it is the holidays I'll ask my annual question of what would be your ideal or ultimate POTA gift?

For me it would be something from the first film such as the spaceship minature (if Planet Hollywood would give it up) or maybe one of the small Lawgiver statues or better yet a mint condition one sheet signed by the entire cast.

That would be my wish too. All the photographs from Fox's archives finally available plus a collection of all the publicity shots, the photographers from the toy companies and magazines etc all collected together into a big coffee table type book. They've done it for other franchises (Trek, Star Wars, Bond etc) maybe we pull something together between each other?

I forgot to tell you guys that if Drew Gaska gets enough e-mails of fans who would like a copy of the latest "Bridge to Ape CIty," he will do a print run of it, of probably a limited number like the last two posters...and that way you can have a poster of it instead of it just being in the book. COME ON GUYS!! Let's get this made!!
So...start writing to him!! Here is his e-mail address:

Yes, T...you are right! That would be so incredible...
And more rare photos, too!!
Jess.
I was thinking how it would be cool to travel back in time and be there on the set to watch them make the movie from beginning to end. To just hang out and see the actors being made up...watching them eat in their appliances...wow. To be flown by helicopter to the crash site on the lake...to see the actors inbetween takes, see what the do while the wait on Zuma beach inbetween scenes...That would be so incredible. That totally won't happen but if I have to dream big, that would be it.

It tends to break down.  If you've ever seen

Yes, Rory, please do that!! I have made some gorilla sculpts already, but I'm sure I can make better ones now. I don't have any nice clear photos of Julius. Do you think you can add Julius as well? I want to make him too. Plus, the Dodge screenshots you sent me were UBER helpful!!! I would like something like that again.

While you're at it, can you add Landon to the pile?

I know...I know...give a chimp a cookie and they ask for some grape juice plus.

Thanks for another great photo William. Not to be critical, but I think the two women on the right are background chimp extras with their pullover masks taken off, and the guy on the right I believe is Leo Lotito Jr., Kim Hunter's makeup man.

Subject: HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE LIBERTY ONE!

Hey everyone,

I just thought I'd share with you pictures of a custom Liberty -1 space craft model! It is a 1/6th scale project that Apes fan Chris Hight is working on. Chris has been recreating the ship for use with the Sideshow 12 inch Figures, based on the actual set blueprints. Check out the amazing pics below!

Obviously this is still a work in progress, but its looking fantastic. In time, Chris hopes to complete the Liberty - but what Chris doesn't know yet might kill him! As you know, The Liberty-1 (formerly the Icarus) is somewhat of an enigma - with only its command module sticking out of Dead Lake in the beginning of the original Planet of the Apes - and while there are several theories online as to the design of the the rest of the ship, it has not been officially revealed... until now.

In Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes, we will be showing for the first time ever, the official design of the REST of the Liberty starship, as conceptionalized by myself and an influential film designer whose name will be revealed in time!

Suffice to say, the portion of Liberty - 1 we do see in the film is just the tip of the iceberg - there is much more to the vessel that propelled Taylor, Landon and the rest of the crew to the future, and their final fates.

Have a Happy New Year!

-Drew G.
