That'd be funny if they decide to name it "Rise of
the Planet of the Apes" (a better title) and Al holds it hostage. :

Just did a check on domain names.
It appears that Fox purchased, "CaesarRiseOfTheApe s.Com, .Net and .Org"
and "RiseOfTheApes. Com, .Net, and .Org" back in November of '09
Only 4 months ago.
So I went ahead and purchased, "RiseOfThePlanetOfT heApes.Com, .Net and
.Org" today for my Planet of the Apes Countdown Site.
Let the Countdown begin. :o)

I'd say it's the same set. I'm pretty sure the small alcove you see on
the right side of the photo from CHE! is the same passage the Mutant
guard took when DPC's character dismissed him after hearing the other guard
scream out from Nova biting him.

Century-Fox bomb CHE! (which happened to have a script by Michael Wilson, which
was butchered). I hadn't seen this film since it first came out, but watching it
again on the FMC has me wondering if this set in the movie, which was released
in June, 1969, wasn't redressed as the set you see in the shot from BENEATH
below it? <<<.html

Also, the shot below that is also from CHE! where the Fox Ranch in Malibu, CA doubled for the mountains of Bolivia, where Che met his destiny. Notice the red arrow I put on the shot, it points to Century Lake, which is the body of water you see in front of Ape City, so just outside that shot the set from PLANET still stood when they filmed CHE! in 1968.

.html.html You've got to be kidding. The cartoon is horribly slow and just plods along. The cartoon industry suffered from extremely low budgets back then so it's not entirely the fault of the crew. I still can't get the sound of that giant flying lizard out of my mind. They just repeated that sound over and over and over again. Some of the humor is good though: the works of William Apespeare...hysterical.
We'll just have to agree to disagree. I still like the live-action TV series MUCH better.

The cartoon is OK and in some ways better than the live action TV series. But it is totally unrelated to the films.

I think they're planning on CG apes, at least on the first one, like Scott Frank said, to be realistic. Fans will groan but I think it would be an interesting departure. But that would be great if Jackie played a human. Full circle now that he's a working actor again.

.htmlYou've also got to consider both the time it was made and the intended
audience. It's a CARTOON! Looking at it from todays higher anination
standards and from an adult's point of view understandably highlights
the many things that are wrong. But when compared to other saturday
morning cartoons made around the same time, it was OK. There are many
adult drama shows made in the seventies that just look silly by todays
standards, so a cartoon doesn't stand a chance. I still enjoy it for
what it is.
My only problem with the show is that FOX decided to include an
inferior DVD set of the toons when the POTA 'Ultimate' (Caesar Head)
set came out, only to have a much higher quality set come out for
indivisual sale only a few months later. For that reason, I still
don't own a nice set.

No, I think they're purposely trying to tie it in
with the franchise (Caesar, etc.). "Planet of the Apes" might remind of Burton's
film but it also reminds of the movie that started this whole thing. "Caesar:
Rise of the Apes" sounds like an "Alien vs. Predator" level. Personally I think
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" sounds more like an "A" film to me. Or "Planet
of the Apes Genesis" like "Batman Begins". Quick Al, nail down

I think the CG now is so good it would be
interesting to try real-looking apes. I saw Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"
yesterday. It wasn't that good, but it had a talking dog in it that looked LIKE
A TALKING DOG. It was incredible. And especially if Fox goes cheap on this the
makeup could be dicey. It's blasphemy but I'd be willing to give CG a
shot.

It'll be a huge mistake to go with CG
apes, at least with the main characters, the advanced apes. In large
numbers, riot scenes, I can see the use of CG, but Caesar needs to be a
performance, and POTA has been about the makeup in the past. I don't like
this idea of CG apes.

Some good titles I thought of was
Birth of the Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Genesis of the Planet of the Apes
So I went ahead with Rise in terms with "Rise of the Apes." I now have the logo on the front page but won't have anything soon for at least a couple of weeks. riseoftheplanetoftheapes.com .net and .org is now activated.
My server package offered 3 free domain names so I went ahead with .com, .net and .org of the same.

Now, I have an idea on who should play Caesar.... wait for it....
Jackie Earle Haley
Yeah, I know, but listen... He's small, could probably play it well, has a POTA connection, and has a face that begs to be covered by foam latex.

I have yet to see CG that doesn't look like CG. It never looks really real to me. It looks good, but like a very fine, detailed painting, just one coat shy of the real thing.
An actor in really good prosthetic makeup is the real thing, and I'll bet a lot cheaper to produce than CG.

.htmlThanks but all of those sellers charge more that $10 for shipping to
Canada alone.
I'm patient and always manage to eventually find what I want at the
price I want.
One example is the EMCE MEGO reproduction 8 inch action figures. After
my local comic guy failed to get them and I couldn't find them in any
of the local comic shops in the city, I just kept my eye out for them
during my travelling for work and occasionally on Ebay. I've found
three of the four and paid less than $50 for all of them in total.
Cheaper than I would have paid if I got them when they first came out.
One thing that seems to have gone up in price over time instead of
down, is the 18 inch Lawgiver from sideshow. Not just the blood
splattered variant, the regular one. I know that they were pricey when
they first came out, (more than $100 but I can't recall exactly how
much) but they all seem to be more than $200 now.

Well, I've just read that Haley didn't enjoy being under the makeup for Freddy "Jeff" Krueger, so there's doubts he'd want the part, but they will need a short, lean actor, hopefully NOT Ben Stiller! And hopefully, they won't go CG on all the apes, that'll be terrible -- and do we need this thing to be 3-D? I don't think so.

After "Watchmen" and now "Nightmare on Elm St."
(he plays without makeup in part of each film) Jackie is a star, at least
to the genre crowd. And with the economy, studios aren't eager to pay the big
star salaries anymore. Stars are bombing right and left ("Green Zone", anyone?)
and the franchises are the stars ("Avatar", anyone?). Jackie is the kind of back
door star I think they'd want. But he might be too busy.
Meanwhile, check out Jackie's "Freddy child
molester" action figure:

I would welcome Jackie back, even if the apes
were CG and he played the human star (reportedly called "Will"). He was the only
human kid in the original POTA canon (for those who count the TV show) of any
importance, and that was memorable to a human kid like me. I'd be interested in
him as a human in this.
Plus he's also playing the most famous Krueger in
history, so he's OK in my book.
Yeah, I'd also like Giacchino for the music (who
said in the notes to his "Alias" Season 2 CD that he was a fan of the POTA TV
show when he was a kid). Or if they decide to call it "Planet of the Apes
Genesis" I want Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel. Peter Gabriel would be great for
this ("Last Temptation of Christ")!

An interesting thing, one character referred to the film as POTA, spoken as a single word. When using the acronym, I tend to think of it as the individual letters P-O-T-A. Does anyone use the word POTA?
I've always just said "POTA" as a word, never spelled it out.

I also still want to come up with fun photographs...Anybody have any fun ideas? I have done the shopping with fruit, gassing up...where else could I take a photo? Fox, like most studios, won't accept unsolicited material.
That's partly so you can't sue them if they have anything similar
in development at the time. If you do send in an unsolicited
script
you're blacklisted and they will never use your stuff. So it's
unlikely
the are ever going to get a screenplay from anyone who knows or even
understands the material and what made it work in the first place.

By the way, I forgot to mention -- about this "POTA" thing. Although I will say "POTA" in reference to the whole of "POTA," the first film is always "PLANET" or "PLANET OF THE APES." The sequels are all their first names and the shows are "the TV series," or "the cartoon series." Boulle's book is always "Planet of the Apes," never "POTA," and NEVER ever "Monkey Planet," which I think sounds stupid.

Did you also see ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. that day, James?
I've told this story before, but now I'll do it again. I'd never heard of OMYBC back in 1968, even though it had been released back in February 1967 and had a broad release. One day on the playground this little buddy of mine told me how he saw PLANET on a double bill with this movie "about cavemen fighting dinosaurs" and I thought he was nuts. Dinosaurs and cavemen didn't live at the same time -- I thought every kid knew that, despite "The Flintstones." Wasn't until a few years later I finally saw OMYBC on TV. I thought it was a very strange movie.

Yeah, it's often been referred to as "Monkey

"Planet of the Apes". I think it was called "Monkey Planet" only in it's
U.K. incarnation.
Please, do not use the word "monkey"!

Aaaaaaactuaaaaally... the Boulle title in its original French, "La Planete des Singes," literally translates as "The Planet of Monkeys," because the French don't have a word that translates as "apes."
Strangely, in the text of the book, translated by one Xan Fielding, in chapter 37, there is the line, "Only someone who has lived more than a year on the planet of the apes could appreciate my emotion..." Why the first British publisher went with "Monkey Planet" is a mystery.

Which only makes me more puzzled as to why some bloody Brit publisher would choose Monkey over Ape?
Now if we could just eradicate the memory of "Monkey Planet"as the title of Boulle's book.

A friend and I have done marathon TV watching in the past and this weekend will be turning our attention to something I'm sure you all hold near and dear, "Planet of the Apes -- The Ultimate DVD Collection." We're going to be watching it in its entirety (including all commentaries) starting at 18:00 (Pacific) this Friday (3/26) and ending about 48 hours later.
You're welcome to gawk, or even join in as an author, details can be found on www.24HoursOfTV.com
Thanks,
