.html Okay, I loaded some pics of the event in Hollywood. Pretty sad bunch of photos really. The photo of the speaker is rather far away and it could be any two people talking. I took some lobby card photos, but nothing really new there. I also added a few pictures of the theater. A very nice, historic theater, but not exactly POTA related.
I have about a dozen more, if anyone cares. All the rest are just pictures of the theater and two more of the speakers, but just about the same as the one already posted.
There were no POTA posters or signs, no one in costume or anything like that as far as I could tell.

I remember there was some talk of interest in purchasing the stand alone edition due to the crappy book edition disc storage that could break down from repeated use.

Unless of course your Best Buy is located on Easter Island or some remote part of the world. :o)

I am so sick of the WWF spending all the
money on raising money. Do they even
do anything anymore, or just make
polar bear commercials? They've
got their last dime out of me.
I hope they spent it well.
From now on all of my
donations will be going
to Conservation Intl.

Indeed I can. It all depends on how close you sit in front of the screen.
Now who was the one who mentioned that before? I wonder. :o)
Al
Well, yes,,, that is true. I stand corrected, but there's sitting close and then there's the actual BIG screen thing. If only I could time travel back to the Capitol Theatre in Feb. 1968. That would be the thing!

.html
While watching POTA on the big screen, a few thoughts about the back packs that the Astronauts had came to mind.
They have four people on the ship, but only three backpacks. Did Stewart not have one? Or did they not bother to take it? There seemed to be little camping gear, stoves, sleeping bags, and such. Did they plan on sleeping in the ship each night?
Each backpack was different. They had different configurations to match the gear in the packs. I did not realize that before seeing it on the big screen. By the time they get to the small waterfall and pond, they are down to two backpacks, Taylor and Dodge have theirs but Landon has lost his.
They did not seem to have much water, and I would have thought a canteen with pistol belt would have been nice. Carrying a pistol and three magazines in a backpack is nice for storage, but seemed quite the waste of space and not easy to get to if you need to shoot something. Also a pistol is a poor choice, they are really only good for shooting people. A lightweight .22 rifle would have been better for shooting small game, or maybe a shotgun with birdshot to get small birds.
I've always been bothered more by the three men only bringing one woman than any backpack mystery.

There were about 100 people there and about 75 for Escape.
The print for POTA was good, sound was good, I have seen first run movies that were far worse.
The print for Escape was perfect, it looked brand new. Very shape and clear.

He said they made little models of the buildings. Then cut them in into one half inch sections. Then made a metal armature in the shape of each section that was big and used to make the form for the real buildings. The put up cardboard and then sprayed the urethane foam over it.
You can really see the metal armature frame work in the little building they built beside the outdoor cage. You'll see what I mean when you view the scene in PLANET where you first see Cornelius. I'll do a screen capture sometime.

So, she calls me this morning and tells me that in the first chapters of the book, Robinsion mentions several times that an influence on him and his sister when they were kids was Planet of the Apes. From what my mother could tell me it had something to do with teaching them about what people were like and not judging a person by their appearance. I plan on getting the book from her after she's done with it and checking this out. I'll quote it exactly in the future.

Subject: [pota] "Caesar" gets the green light (reportedly)
Creature designer Aaron Sims says "Caesar" is finally ramping up: "I'm working on POTA, the prequel to that. Working on what the apes look like with director Rupert Wyatt. I'll find out this week where we stand because it just got the green light and a lot of the stuff I've done before was just to get the studio excited about it. Now they're all on board".
Sims is also designing for the big superhero movie "Green Lantern" and Universal's reboot of "The Invisible Man", like the recent "Wolfman" (how hard is it to design an invisible man?).

This is a good price as I am in the UK and it's £69.97 - convert that to Dollars and you'll see what I mean!

I would rather not dilute the fun with having it coincide with an existing
holiday. The first Saturday before November 25 would give us a day off
work and a day that is significant to the movie.

I don't mind an improvement due to technology. Better make up for
example. The Apes make up was great, but I suspect it would be even better
now. The ship was rather simple technology, I could see using the same
basic ship but updating the comms, radars, & etc.

Good one...I always loved that line. But to be serious...maybe we can create such a huge stir that we can somewhat get our way like Tranformers fans did when it came to using Peter Cullen's voice for Optimus Prime. As has been discussed before, it's not that the EXACT prosthetics should be used, just an improvement on the basic designs by having the mouths move in a better fashion. Keep the ears, noses, and brows the same...just improve the muzzle a little bit. I got into a bit of an argument with a fellow anthropology major who happens to be into primatology like me. She actually doesn't like POTA b/c "the gorillas are depicted as being mean." I told her that was not anywhere near the point of POTA. She then told me that she preferred the Burton movie b/c the apes looked more realistic (YIKES!!).
Not to take anything away from Rick Baker but, less realistic or not, our apes and the look that Chambers gave them is the look that most POTA fans overwhelmingly prefer. Not only that, some of Baker's Apes look no more realistic than Chambers'. I still have yet to see a chimp that looks significantly like Thade or Ari or a gorilla that looks a lot like Attar. I was most impressed with the orangutans as far as realism was concerned...but I would still prefer them to look like Zaius, Honorious, Virgil,, etc. If these apes have evolved, then they would look different than their modern counterparts anyway.

Funny you should say July Rory - when I was younger my friends and I had "Ape Day". We made cards and gave gifts (POTA Toys) each other. I made a very large Lawgiver painted on cardboard which we put our gifts under. I still have some of the cards given to me, and even the large painted Lawgiver. We did this in the beginning of July!

Mutations from the radiation. Genetic experiments from humans
tampering with Ape DNA to make them better workers. Natural selection by
the apes themselves to make them taller and two thousand years to work on
it.

It's "Caesar", the "Conquest"esque prequel.
Probably better thought of as a reboot; I don't think it will connect to
the originals. A kind of "do over". Reportedly shooting in Vancouver in 2
months so it's probably too late to stop this train. They've already got the
studio reserved.

Do we know if it's 'Caesar' that's got the green light specifically or is it
Apes, with a new idea on the script? I'd hope the latter, but it's exciting news
either way. John, Scrolls.
