Thanks anyway William.

While I support the stamp, in these days of privacy concerns I can see no reason to give both my mail address and my phone number, especially if they are not going to use them.  There is no privacy statement attached and they are a publicity department after all. Why collect phone numbers you are not going to use?

Hello
I found this large black plastic case with a leather handle on to. The case has four latches around the bottom to secure the small tray bottom to the large top cover. There is a Z-2 stenciled on both parts and also a color picture under plastic riveted to the front of DR. ZIRA. Inside the case there was a thick plastic moulded sheet with the impression of Dr Ziras ape face. To see the pictures take a look at the photo sections album Movie Prop? Looking forward to any help to ID this piece. Thanks

Never seen this before. Since it has the 2001 logo on it, it was probably made around then or after.

If anyone else wants to take a look, go here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/photos/album/1866397238/pic/list

The phone number could be a requirement by the Post Office to ensure that the people signing the petition are real.

My reality is not determined by my phone number.  A email address is already collected and should have been enough to verify that I am real.   I already get enough telemarketers.

It looks to me like the mold for cooking a mask in a kiln or oven.  Something like the completed form for a face mold from someone.  Hard to tell if it is small or life-sized.  Perhaps the mold for a cheap Halloween latex mask with no moving parts (like the muzzle).  Just my opinion.

Rumor is as rumor does but reportedly two of the biggies from "Rise of the Apes" are looking into more sci-fi franchises for Fox. Peter Chernin , big cheese producer of "Rise", is looking to remake the longest running movie in history, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (which hits blu-ray and "Glee" today) with the original movie's producer Lou Adler:
        http://www.collider.com/2010/10/18/rocky-horror-picture-show-remake-ryan-murphy-glee/

And "Rise" star James Franco is reportedly itching to join Ridley Scott's prequel of "Alien":

If nothing else it suggests that "Rise of the Apes" when smooth enough for these folks to want to re-up with Fox.

t has the new logo. The vacu-formed face is from a plastic mask that was available in Australia, which Apemania now produces and uses as a form to hold the facial hairpieces when you order from them. It has paint on it like you would use to paint your prosthetic pieces. It probably was someone's case for their Apemania produced faces.

It would help repair a serious omission in the original Apes canon if Rise did show Caesar campaigning with a loyal gorilla like Buck. The movie of Conquest, for me, had some of its guts torn out by not having Aldo being beaten on those steps and then helping to start the rebellion. The novel is superb with this and the Marvel magazine has possibly the best single sequence in all of the adaptations when it shows Caesar visting Aldo, messiah-like, after Armando's death.Had we had all that in the movie, Battle would have had so much more resonance, for me.This month's SFX has a two page forum on what people think of and want from Rise---it also suggests that there's been no final statement yet on 3D.John, Scrolls.

I've contacted Brian and he confirm this was produced by Apemania:

"Back in 1998 (I think) we made 8 costumes and prosthetic pull-over
masks (4 Cornelius and 4 ZIra) that toured the world to promote the 30th
Anniversary re-release of POTA.  What you have a foto of there is one of

I didn't realize that you needed to be registered to view them. I am sending them as attachments to this e-mail. Some you may have already seen. They are unpainted (cause I just don't have time), and the neck plug needs to be dremelled out. It's $30 per head if shipping within US, $35 elsewhere. This will help me pay for shipping and and paypal fees.

What you have a foto of there is one of
the travel cases for one of the ZIRA prosthetic pull-overs."

I was wondering if you did, can you also put up the hieroglyphs of the President of the Acadeny's outfit? How about Dr. Zaius's armageddon outfit? It would be great to see them digitally.

          Thanks again Glen.

After seeing this I'd like to make a request of all group members to try to dig up as many pics of old movie theater marquees as possible. Of course one of the POTA films should be featured on the marquee. So everyone dig through your old photos, check local historical websites or maybe even your hometown newspaper's archives. It would be great if we could create an online marquee archive here.

I don't have the President's or Zaius' glyphs that you asked about but did upload a new one which is the glyph worn by Dr. Honorius: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/photos/album/656240848/pic/354155371/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc.

That chase took place on three streets in Brooklyn following the route of the elevated subway. It started on Stillwell Avenue. The middle part, where Hackman almost hits the woman with the baby, was on 86th Street. It ended on New Utrecht Avenue. I live on one of those streets but I'm not saying which one;-)

Here is a real treat for Roddy fans.  This is episode #009 of the half-hour comedy series from 1963, hosted by Hans Conreid.  The episode contains a 2-part live interview with Roddy McDowall.  In the interview, they begin discussing movies.  When Conreid mentions "Ben Hur", Roddy starts acting like he's not familiar with Charlton Heston.  Quite a coincidence.  And check out Roddy's beard!  I hope you enjoy this!

They also show the wrong orangutan for Paul Williams as "Virgil" when they are doing the "Can you guess the actor" bit... The one thing on there I don't like is that it's way too obvious that Natalie and Ricardo are not really saying what they're saying, by that I mean you can tell their lines are scripted... It's cool the got them for the show, but sound bites from themselves would have been better...

That's what I wish too, for a time machine to go back and take lots of photos.  I have a photo of the theatre I first saw PLANET at, but it's from seven years earlier and has a different movie on the marquee.  I can easily change that in photoshop, but it ain't real.

Thanks, Rich.  It's MediaFire.  Every once in a while they try to download something with a file.  I've found that same problem with MegaUpload most of the time.  They try to download an ad page with the file you want.  I guarantee that my System Mechanic is up-to-date.

I disagree. That was personal stuff they said, such as Ricardo saying Jacobs was the reason he did the movies. They weren't sound bites. Maybe they wrote down what they wanted to say but that was heartfelt stuff.

The mystery of who will compose the music for the new "Apes" movie rolls on. I've said before my choices for the job: John Williams, Howard Shore, Michael Giacchino or Bear McCreary. Sunday, I got to ask two of them about it, Giacchino ("Star Trek", "Up") and McCreary (acclaimed for the recent "Battlestar Galactica"). Giacchino said in the past he grew up on the POTA TV show. He confirmed to me he loves POTA: the movies, the TV show, everything. But he hasn't been contacted about it and he's pretty busy so he's not particularly interested in pursuing it. He said, "I'll probably just watch that one". Strike One.
McCreary just shrugged. He's open to it but hasn't been contacted either. I hinted that maybe since he's a "TV guy" and some people don't have a lot of imagination that he should help them imagine it. But he's pretty busy too. I love McCreary's music and I think "Apes" would be a perfect fit as his intro to big movies, given his sci - fi work. But Strike Two.
Anyway, it was cool to meet two of my favorite composers. Given the importance of CG to the film maybe they are waiting until more of the movie is done before approaching composers (especially considering the lack of experience of the director with big FX movies). But next summer's movies are grabbing up composers (Giacchino's next Pixar movie, "Cars 2", opens opposite "Rise of the Apes"; traitor!). So hopefully Fox and Co. won't wait too long if they want a good one. POTA has a good, perhaps legendary, rep when it comes to music. Let the tradition continue.

Subject: OT: Congrats Jane Goodall on 50 years of chimps
          .html
Jane Goodall began studying chimps 50 years ago in 1960. Her work and others' have given us a solid knowledge base on apes and cleared up some of the cliches that even POTA has trafficked in (such as docile chimps and violent gorillas). The '60's were a golden age of primate study, just after Pierre Boulle created his novel. Jane was inspired to travel to Africa and study animals by stories about Tarzan and Dr. Dolittle (the latter of course made into a movie by Arthur "Apes" Jacob). So though her work with is with the reality of chimps, it shows the importance of stories.
Though Jane pretty much introduced us to the chimps she now works hard trying to save them. She estimates she spends about 300 days a year on the road trying to do just that. Her 50th anniversary is being celebrated in the media including last night's "60 Minutes".

Well that's the idea for the marquee archive. Maybe someone out there has or finds a photo of that theater when Planet was playing there.

For anyone that has marquee pic, they can upload them directly to this folder in the group's Photo's section: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/photos/album/65348747/pic/list.

They may have written down what they wanted to say (Natalie probably did) but I don't think someone "scripted" it. Ricardo was very eloquent in "Behind the POTA".
