Hey, I was born in '79, so the Ape movies are a little before my time. To be honest, my interest in formative years was sporadic, but the image of first seeing a gorilla guard chasing a human was burned to visual memory sometime in '84. I caught a few minutes of a show before bedtime and couldn't sleep thinking about what I had seen. Years later I realized it was the Taylor-museum chase from the first movie. Back then you could say I was disturbed by the whole idea, so young, it was difficult to separate the ape from the costume - fortunately it still is but it's hard to put into words the feeling of the first movie. Two years later I saw another televised showing, the fifth movie and shortly after received a gift of Battle for the Planet of the Apes Power Records set. I listened to this so many times, remarkable that the vinyl hasn't worn. Time passed and I hadn't seen an Ape movie or merchandise until Christmas morning '89, 6:40am. I was opening Santa's gifts - Legos I think when the TV advertised a run of Planet of the Apes TV series. They showed a sequence from 'The Trap' and once again the gorilla face came up as part of the opening sequence, awesome, suffice to say I lost interest in the Legos.

Recently I happened on the Apemania website, not sure how I got there but it rekindled my interest again. I had the idea of getting a lifesize bust of a gorilla guard, but it freaked my wife out, so maybe put that on hold. Anyway, I just ordered Dick Handley's books, so you could say I have a lot of reading ahead of me, but I can't wait.

Wow, that's great news. Didn't David Gerrold and Harlan Ellison script some of these?
