Hey, I was born in '79, so the Ape movies are a little before my time. To be honest, my interest in formative years was sporadic, but the image of first seeing a gorilla guard chasing a human was burned to visual memory sometime in '84. I caught a few minutes of a show before bedtime and couldn't sleep thinking about what I had seen. Years later I realized it was the Taylor-museum chase from the first movie. Back then you could say I was disturbed by the whole idea, so young, it was difficult to separate the ape from the costume - fortunately it still is but it's hard to put into words the feeling of the first movie. Two years later I saw another televised showing, the fifth movie and shortly after received a gift of Battle for the Planet of the Apes Power Records set. I listened to this so many times, remarkable that the vinyl hasn't worn. Time passed and I hadn't seen an Ape movie or merchandise until Christmas morning '89, 6:40am. I was opening Santa's gifts - Legos I think when the TV advertised a run of Planet of the Apes TV series. They showed a sequence from 'The Trap' and once again the gorilla face came up as part of the opening sequence, awesome, suffice to say I lost interest in the Legos.

Recently I happened on the Apemania website, not sure how I got there but it rekindled my interest again. I had the idea of getting a lifesize bust of a gorilla guard, but it freaked my wife out, so maybe put that on hold. Anyway, I just ordered Dick Handley's books, so you could say I have a lot of reading ahead of me, but I can't wait.

what was released on the Blu-Ray set... The script for CONQUEST doesn't really
contain anything other than what is in the film, so there's really no major
deleted scenes that could be floating around... Everyone points to the
prologue (the escaping chimp being gunned down), but that's the only "major"
thing missing... I don't think that scene exists in it's entirety anymore since
it was cut up and used during the scene when Caesar is on the run from
Kolp... Other than that, there "might" be a few cut snippets, but how many times

apes in the face and bleeding "ketchup blood" ? ***

I wouldn't be surprised if there is another date switch with Apes.
But at this point it really doesn't matter. We're already preprogramed for the longest wait at Thanksgiving so any other switch can't be worst.
Little lone an Apes Super Bowl commercial which is now officially out of the question.

At least I have my "Planet of the Ten Commandments" to look forward to til then. :o)
And if I had a choice, I'd say, release Apes in Christmas if you want but I want my "Ten Commandments" bluray in March!
Thank you, Paramount Pictures!  xoxo

At least with Ten Commandments in HD I know what I'm getting.
So honestly I'm looking much more forward to it.

This is probably no surprise since "Rise of the Apes" has been pushed back to Thanksgiving. But neither will Fox's big summer movie "X-Men" be represented, so I don't think "Apes" would have in any case. Fox doesn't like to spend.

http://collider.com/super-bowl-movie-trailers/71505/

Speaking of which, "X-Men: First Class" sounds like it really has it's back against the wall, still filming with a June 3rd release date. Since "Apes" finished filming last September, is it possible there will be another release switch?

*** I think they're planning on it for this year... If you read down below
where it says they had planned its release "if a film gets made", you'll see
that it says that a guy just received a reply from Warner Archive
Collection via their Facebook page and their reply states:

"We are cuurently [sic] at work on the LOGAN'S RUN series, and hope to have
it ready sometime this year. It will be all the episodes, including the few
that didn't air during the original network run.

I'd guess that means it will be ready for release in 2011... And if it's
not, it doesn't bother me, I'm not a LR fan... I just threw it out there for
the people that were talking about the show/movie... ***

I actually prefer "Beneath the Planet of the Ten Commandments."  It's just too bad they couldn't have gotten Charlton Heston back for it.  James Franciscus is just no Moses.

Yep, she's a Lisa pic--but if there were only five in the series, three pics of Mutants would have been a bit skewed.I'm amazed the Heston card from the Burto movie is so expensive---it was far, far cheaper than that a few years ago and, even allowing for his passing, it's stil a bit steep. Here's hoping the new movie gives the chance fo lots more trading card goodies.I should mention that the best trading cards EVER can be found on Hunter's site--the fan made sets are just gorgeous. Logan's Run is a weird franchise.I'm not sure it's loved like other ideas are and the source material, the original novel, is definitely not a cross-age group read---it's very adult. The two follow up novels are even less fun.Marvel's comic was good ---George Perez art (he also did a UK Apes cover!)but later comics by Malibu(?) again followed the very adult, nit general, approach. But anything with Jenny Agutter has got to be given a chance, in my book.John,Scrolls.

The best thing about Burton's Apes were Bill Quick's books---in fact, reading the books is just about the only way to come to terms with Burton's mess, because they offer a solid back story and are a whole new Ape saga.I, personally, really enjoyed the junior novelisations, too.And the Dark Horse comics were excellent--I was really disappointed not to find out what happened to Crow and her pals..Just the film sucked. Why Ari is so adamant about defending humans... why Daena refuses to accept Ari... why Krull was disgraced... how Thade rose in power... how an honorable ape like Attar ended up siding with Thade against Krull... and so forth.

I heard somewhere that Rule's story might be out there somewhere in some form, but I probably misread that. The reviews are coming in for the Sundance Film Festival opener "Project Nim", about a famed '70's experiment to raise a chimp as a human. Sounds like it's more about human failings than simian science but it's getting good reviews and would make an interesting counterpoint if it hit theaters at the same time as "Rise of the Apes".

HBO has bought the rights to the documentary "Project Nim", about an experiment in the early '70's to raise a chimp as a human child. The doc is from the same filmmaker who did the Oscar-winning "Man on Wire" so there is a lot of expectation. In fact, HBO wants to release it in theaters instead of going straight to TV. Maybe it'll hit theaters at the same time as "Rise of the Apes"?

Another show I'd love to see released is The Fantastic Journey. It was nearly released a while back, but the company doing it hit problems, I understand.Apart from the fact that Roddy has great fun chewing the scenery in it, it reminds me of a summer holiday back in 1977/78 when it was aired over here and it was a kind of replacement Apes for me.It has a great 70s style theme tune too! Thanks for the info. It's a pity that Rule went that far in production but didn't get published and given the chance for Apes fans to read it; such a waste. I'd rally love to see some new classic Apes chase set releases. The potential is vast--bad guys, astronauts, orang costumes, sets, locations. There's never been a chase set for the tv series---the only additional one I know of, apart from the Spanish cards, is the Galen card from the Roddy inkworks set.Good or bad, the new movie should be an impetus for some new produce.John, Scrolls.

It's interesting that Thor and Captain America are both getting the Superbowl treatment.Even though I'm a big fan of both, I normally loathe superhero movie adaptations, because they usually lead to the tail wagging the dog--the comic following holloywood rather than the film adapting the comic. Both of these movies look very exciting, however and, in paticular, the Catian America pics I've seen look superb. And another thing---what's a 'superbowl'? Is it a really good bit of cricket? John, Scrolls.

Just saying.
Soon to be seen as Will Rodman in "Rise of the Apes". Well, not soon but sooner than yesterday. Just saying.
First Oscar host to also be a nominee? Just asking.

After seeing THE KING'S SPEECH, I think that's going to be the big Oscar winner, Best Picture and Best Actor.

No, just an aging runt.

Actually I have nothing against Hoffman, but PAPILLON is Steve McQueen's movie.

The way I see it, it'll be Rick Baker for makeup ("The Wolfman"), Colleen Atwood for costumes, Helena Bonham Carter for Best Supporting Actress, James Franco for Best Actor and Marky Mark's baby "The Fighter" for Best Picture. A POTA sweep! : )
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so.

Yeah, I also think that Colin Firth is going to win the Oscar for best actor and that The King's Speech is most likely to win best film. However, I prefer Black Swan for best film over The King's Speech, but only just (although I've yet to see The Social Network, which also has a big chance to win, so maybe I need to wait to see it before I can really be sure about my choice).

Franco fun facts:

The last Oscar host who was also a nominee was Paul Hogan, who was nominated for the script for "Crocodile Dundee".

Franco will sing during the Oscars. What if he sings "I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-A to chimpan-Z"? Wouldn't that be the most?

This is totally confusing. Entertainment Weekly said it was coming out in June. Who's right.

And the last replier to the thread, with the Super Bowl question...were you being serious or joking? I can't tell, I was going to explain it but now I'm not sure if I should or not.

'Rise' did get a brief blurb in the Entertainment Weekly upcoming movies preview, but it was one of those ones you miss if you don't look really close, the 'other movies' blurbs on the side of the page while the movies they focus on are the main part of the page. This was the issue with Johnny Depp on the cover, either the first or second week of January. It said the film's due in June, as I said in my other message.

I was reading a Cameron interview where he made the point that to delay a film is a big, big decision if only because the funding then takes, say, another 6 months of interest payments before the capital is paid with box office receipts. He mentions the Harry Potter 7 'will they won't they 3D' mess and delays. I really do wonder why Apes is delayed---surely a summer slot is right for Apes? Could it be the effects just weren't going to be ready? John, Scrolls.

It could be the FX but I doubt it. It doesn't sound like an FX-heavy film. The only problem would be if they are having trouble getting the apes right. WETA had trouble getting Kong right and had more time to do it. But they have the Kong experience to use on "Apes" and reportedly the opening sequence looked great so they seem to have nailed the apes.
So far everyone is saying it's a great movie so I assume they took it out of summer to give it a better chance. Maybe even so it has a shot at Oscar nominations. A few years ago that would've been silly but now there's 10 Best Picture nominees and "District 9" (which seems a lot closer to "Rise" than "Avatar") surprised everyone by getting a nomination. If that happens, Fox could keep it in theaters or rerelease it for Oscar season. If it came out in June it would be on DVD already.
"Entertainment Weekly" has the old date. "Rise" has been moved to Thanksgiving.

My wife wanted to see BLACK SWAN, so we went. Natalie Portman does a very good job with her part, probably good enough for the Academy Award, but the story itself IS way over the top, in my opinion. Not anything I would care to see more than once.
