Some months ago I was lucky enough to be sent a working copy manuscript of the Encyclopaedia to help proof read. I will admit that reading through I had something of a sinking feeling. The facts were all there but I just didn't feel entertained in the way I had with the Timeline of the Planet of the Apes.

I read through, made notes and sent them back to the author feeling unsettled – I'll be honest… I didn't think it would sell.

Well, when you're wrong, you're wrong, and Rich, I'm sorry I ever doubted because a few days ago the published version landed on my doormat. I opened it up and something amazing had happened. What I'd proof read was WORDS… millions of them, one after another. What I was looking at was a BOOK!

The transformation from cold text to red-hot printed page is stunning! The facts are still there, more than you'll certainly ever need but the injection of design, layout and a very generous helping of illustrations have elevated the whole thing into a masterpiece!

Writer, designer and artist should all feel very proud, it's because of the contribution from each of them that this book SOARS and it's a real privilege to own a copy.

If you haven't done so already, buy it… just buy it.

Dave

I did buy mine via Amazon.com.....the Post Office says it delivered it last Friday to my office but it never showed up...we have searched the building and it is nowhere to be found...
now I have to file a claim  with the P.O. and/or Amazon....maybe in a month or two I'll either get a refund or a new copy...maybe.
None of which is Rich's fault of course but it has spoiled my enthusiasm for the book a bit...why can't the Post office get a person's NAME when they deliver a package that requires a signature?

Hi, Bruce. I'm truly sorry to hear this happened. My advice is to contact Amazon immediately. I've found that when things like this have happened, Amazon has always sent a replacement copy, and in very short order--sometimes, in as little as a week. Feel free to contact me off-list if you need me to do anything to facilitate this situation.

Dave, your review below means a lot to me, man (mind if I quote you on the testimonials page at hassleinbooks.com)? This would be a good time for me to publicly thank Dave, James, Dean (James Dean?), Neil Moxham and Mark Rogers for reading over the manuscript and offering feedback. It's a HUGE book, so I really appreciate the time and effort--and oh so many comments--you guys provided. It definitely helped improve the final product (Marcus entry aside), and I shudder to think how it would have turned out without your input. In addition, as Dave rightly points out, a lot of credit goes to Paul Giachetti, who designed and laid out the book, and Pat Carbajal, who provided the cover and interior sketches. These two were integral to this book taking on life, and I can genuinely say it would have been impossible to do it without them (after reading Dave's opening comments, I'm so glad I didn't even try). I'm blessed to have good partners on these books, and as I undertake my next venture, which will take me back to the future, I'm very glad Paul and Pat are going with me.

Just to clarify--you actually can order it from bookstores. You just won't likely find it stocked on shelves--though some are carrying it, given the bulk orders we've received from several book stores. (Unfortunately, I don't know which ones, since Amazon doesn't provide us that tracking data--we just have the sales numbers.)

Believe it or not I already got a reply from Amazon....they told me to wait til 2/14 then contact them again if I still don't have the book.
Any reply is better than nothing I guess....

I may be biased, but I don't think any franchise has been as well served by its 'Bible' as Lexicon serves Apes.It can't be faulted in any way and dodged a bullet by my computer not having capacity to take the files to help proof read---I am delighted I couldn't infect this manuscript with my idiocy, because those involved totally, totally nailed it.Buy it.Buy it now. I popped into my local comic shop yesterday to inquire how soon I should
be able to put in an advance order for the new Boom Studios POTA comics.
As it turned out, the new Diamond Previews catalog already has the ad
for it and the comic retailers now have an order code.

So I've already reserved my first issue. Now I have just sit and wait.

The BOOM studios site (http://www.boom-studios.com/) does seem to have a
shopping cart and states that subscriptions are available for both
international and US/Canadian customers.

Unfortunately, despite the many internet sites posting the images and
writing about the new series, as much as I've tried searching the site
itself, I can't seem to find the series on their own site.

Your best bet is just going to your closest comic book shop and ordering
it there.

Dario, I would heartily encourage going into/telephoning your nearest comics shop to order the new Apes comic, as it really helps get the word out.Shops that might not have intending stocking it will then be aware of interest and will often order a couple more as a result. It's Apes and it's new, classic style stuff, so let's get mobilised and get the word out.I've got mine (both covers) on order with my purveyor of comics goodness, American Graffiti. According to what I've dug up, the 72nd Street Playhouse opened in 1914 at 350 East 72nd Street and had 599 seats with not much at all of a lobby but a large marquee with a vertical 72.  It was demolished in 1985.

Sounds like you'd have definitely gone to the Capitol to see PLANET, and to the 72nd only if the Capitol was sold out!

There has been no official announcement about the new comic from either FOX or Boom! so they are still in a media blackout. Thus, Boom! can't list it on their website or even talk to anyone about it until the announcement is made.

"This spring, BOOM! Studios returns us to that far-future simian Earth with Planet of the Apes #1, a prequel to the classic Charlton Heston film that will pit ape against ape as the Lawgiver must be found!"

and....

"Ape society has reached a new golden age. but there are ripples of dissent in both the ape and human ranks. Tensions will rise and soon all will be caught in chaos! And amidst all this uncertainty, what is the fate of the Lawgiver?"

So it doesn't sound like it will be just before Taylor gets there...more likely post-Battle.....

I have an extra copy of both the BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES and BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES Power Records sets, so whoever is interested and contacts me first can have them for the cost of shipping. Both are need of some restorative work, and BATTLE is in particularly rough shape as the outermost four panel sheet is missing. That can be corrected easily enough as they're all available for download online, plus- like I mentioned- they're free.

Yes, but you COULD still ask your local comics shop to order you the alternate cover as well, to boost sales!I've ordered both because they both look amazing. I really hope this comic gets big support from us in Apedom---wouldn't it be wonderfuyl to have a series that actually lasted and had a chance to grow, with new characters to be added to the Apes pantheon! I often find myself wondering what absolute hell it's going to be in retail stores on December 22nd when people realize that we're all still here and they have to buy Christmas presents. To think that the world is going to end because a particular calendar ends is akin to thinking that the world is going to end on December 31st because that's the last day in our calendar.

Really don't understand what everyone's so worried about -- it won't destroy the earth, though that's what a certain person named Patrick once said,
but it would be ironic if it did, especially this year with a new POTA movie coming out, but since it's 640 light-years away, we'd all be long dead before anyone on earth knew about it -- in fact, it could already have happened. <<<.html

Bellatrix. also known as Gamma Orionis (γ Ori, γ Orionis), is the third brightest star in the constellation Orion and the twenty-seventh brightest star in the night sky, and one of the brightest second-magnitude stars.

The name Bellatrix is Latin for female warrior. It is also known as the Amazon Star. It was once thought to belong to the Orion OB1 Association along with the "Orion's Belt" stars ζ Ori (Alnitak), ε Ori (Alnilam), and δ Ori (Mintaka), but this is no longer believed to be the case, as Gamma Orionis is now known to be much closer than the rest of the group, lying 245 light years away.

Historically this star was used as a luminosity standard to compare with other stars to check for variability, but it was later discovered that Bellatrix itself is an eruptive variable, changing in luminosity by a few percent over time. It ranges in apparent magnitude from 1.59 to 1.64. It has an absolute magnitude of -2.72.

Betelgeuse is the red giant star that makes Orion's right shoulder, and is the star they go to in the Boulle novel.  It has nothing to do with the movie.

It's being reported that James Franco has signed on to play the title role in "Oz, the Great and Powerful". It's a, wait for it, prequel, to something about a yellow brick road. It's to be made by Franco's "Spiderman" director, Sam Raimi. Maybe he'll be a wiz of a wiz, if ever a wiz there was?
Let's hope he gets to play with flying monkeys. Just another example of the mind-boggling path Franco has taken since filming "Rise of the Apes". If he had been offered the "Apes" flick now I wonder if he would've taken it. By the time "Rise" is released he might be president of the United States (at least in a movie).

No real enthusiasm for it whatsoever. Especially now that we have to wait until november. It might as well be 10 years from now.

Simian Scrolls is still alive and well and we're currently working on issue 17. We're gathering some exclusive features that we hope people won't have seen before. The delay with the movie may well mean we delay too, to ride the coat tails of the publicity.Or will the movie be riding ours??!! John, Scrolls.

It's all a plot, Al. Fox just wants your domain name. You must be strong! You domain man!

Not only will he might be president but also on my part I may have little to no enthusiasm to even care by the time november roles around.
I maybe shutting down the site this weekend. June would have been nice but november? I really don't see myself hosting until then.
Hosting sites has really become bordsville for me these days. I guess I've just been doing it for far too long.
No real enthusiasm for it whatsoever. Especially now that we have to wait until november. It might as well be 10 years from now.

I'm out of this "Project X" remake.
