I've been looking around and I don't see any "Rise" stuff announced, not even a novelization. If that stuff was planned there should be some listed by now. There will be a soundtrack but that looks about it. After the Burton merchandise gathering dust Fox seems to be just dipping their toe in. If the film rocks and creates an ape-tite maybe it will be a banananza for stuff based on classic "Apes". The trailers seem to be bringing long ago fans out of the woodwork.

I admit I admire the man's attempt more than sometimes his judgement.
I don't know the answer to that question either, but then, political
attributions to films often perplexes me. Why was 'Thank you for
smoking' a film that was politically incorrect, for example? Unless
anything more sarcastic than the Oprah show is politically incorrect.

I don't expect to see a liberal posting 'Top 25 Right-Wing Films' any
time soon (though given Hollywood's tendency to swing left, are there
twenty-five 'right wing films' that are considered classics? ... I
suppose there's Forrest Gump).

Debbie Reynolds did have a smaller auction a few years ago. I purchased both the loincloth worn by James Franciscus and the one used by his stunt double. I also have the original top portion of Brent's wardrobe that I purchased from Profiles in History about 8 years ago. If you look closely, the top portion auctioned last week was the one used by the stunt double. Still screen used, so it's legit.

The new trailer is certainly encouraging. I was fearing it was going to be some mindless action film, or geared that way, but this trailer seems to suggest it might steer towards thought provoking and emotive. Still, it's only a trailer... but what a trailer.

Do you have any idea if they're going to continue with the cover "A" and

Also, on the first interior page of issue # 2, it says there was a cover
"C" by Karl Richardson... I don't recall seeing a third cover for issue # 2 on

I thought issue 2 was a quantum leap in quality over issue 1. The art was still a little uneven. In some panels Nix looks exactly like he should, in others, like something out of 'Master of the Universe'. But all in all I'm loving the art, it's so unrelentingly vibrant I'm finding it easy to overlook any glitches.

Was that splash page toward the end a nod to the classic 'Battle' poster?

Issue 3, while maintaining the standard art-wise wasn't quite as good (for me) for the simple reason the main focus shifts toward the humans. Always a problem in an Ape title but a necessary evil.

Is 'The Long war' an ongoing story with no forseeable end in sight or is it planned to be a limited 'arc' before we move on to something new?

Despite my initial misgivings the title is winning me over and I look forward to issue 4.

I only realised, on about the tenth viewing, that Caesar is playing with a model of the Statue of Liberty up in his room.Pretty cool.The Serkis interview on the BBC is interesting-- it's fascinating to hear he plays baby Caesar too.Sian Williams, the lady BBC interviwer, is Welsh, like my wife, but has seen better days.Not prepared to go on record whether that's like my wife too....John, Scrolls.

Ive had this recording on sacd for years and listened to it again and its an amazing cantadda written in a bad time in his personell life but man this is what Beneath the POTA would have been It even has a motif similiar to Leonard Rosenmans score. Its great and creepy and carthardic I bet for the composer at that time. Put on Planet or Beneath and play this cd on your stereo. Yeah, Tom Felton seems to be a Julius reversal, including the fire hose. He's a hoser.
The writers seem to have a soft spot for Julius since they named the star gorilla Buck.
With all the cages and Brian Cox I keep flashing back to "The Escapist" too.

They had to shoot shots with CG 3 times, once with all the actors, once with just the CG actors and once with no actors, just whatever action (like if a character knocks something over, they have to rig it to fall). The director called that the "Roger Rabbit" shot. It's so the animators have a clean shot if they need it. But the director said it only added about an hour a day to the shoot.
Felton comes across as mustache twirling but I've known punks like that. And that's pretty much how Julius was played ("Shut up, you freak!"). Plus using the most dramatic stuff in a trailer is usually par for the course. Makes more of an impression. Hopefully in the overall film the characters will be more rounded.

Didn't I read that they had to do each CGI shot twice, once with the suited actors and another with them out of the shot, then they somehow composite this stuff later.

I'll tell you something now, a featurette on how all this was done on the inevitable Blu-ray -- will bore me to death! I'd rather not know how this is done.

I want to say a few things about the UK trailer. I think it gives away too much plot. From it I think I can already deduce what the weaknesses of this new movie will be. It may be too maudlin in the subplot with John Lithgow, the pair of villains (Tom Felton and Brian Cox) will be so stupidly vile that they're more like a couple of idiots, and James Franco may come across as too young for the role. I'd have preferred they gotten an older actor, someone in their forties or even fifties, but maybe it'll be OK. I'm just ready to see this movie now, so this next month is going to be the worst, just counting down the days.

As for comments on the web about this movie, it's amazing how dumb and cynical the geeks that leave comments are. They come across as a bunch of punks that think they know something and are wise, but are just wiseass jerks. Anyone with a brain has looked at these trailers and at the most enlightened have said, "That looks intriguing, maybe it'll be something good." I think that's about the best Fox can expect.

Also, I've checked the schedule at the Fox Movie Channel and there isn't any APES marathon going to happen around August 5th, but I still expect the movie to be heavily promoted there, though I'll be ignoring it.

Might as well enjoy the next month since on August 5th the party might be over, if the movie doesn't deliver and/or the box office isn't there. Times like this only come around once every ten years! For example, it sucks to be a "Green Lantern" fan right now. : (

Ironically, "Cars 2" made $ 68 million this weekend (estimated). That's how much POTA2001 opened to 10 years ago (without 3D prices).

"Rise of the Apes" was originally scheduled to bow this weekend.

All I know is what I've read, that it's the theatrical prints. Have no idea if that applies to cable and satellite.

"Green Lantern" not doing too great, and the reviews for "CARS 2" is it's strictly for kids. RISE would have easily ruled this weekend.

I had my Jerry's 80th birthday discs today and they are wonderful--what a gift Jerry was to music.The two tracks are The Clothes Snatchers and The Hunt and the orchestral treatment here is sharp and fresh--a real treat.The notes describe the Apes music as 'some of the most difficult on the stands' and also say 'POTA is simply one of the great masterpieces of film music'.It sure is.Varese Sarabande are the company to contact.John, Scrolls.

"Variety" has announced that John Goodman will play John Chambers in "Argo", Ben Affleck's movie about John's adventures trying to free the hostages in Iran in 1979 by setting up a fake movie. When I interviewed John he said his work for his government was what he was most proud of. So it's great it will be immortalized (and Affleck is a good director).
