The funny thing is "Twilight" is killing everything and "Rise" was going to come out now at one point. "Rise" might not have done as well if it went up against the werewolves with abs. : o

Nothing spectacular to report, but the current state of things, according to Box Office Mojo, are better than they were just a week ago.
It'll be a struggle that may take some time -- or it may not -- but RISE still could reach half a billion.
Total Worldwide gross as of December 3, 2011:
$480,925,128

.htmlAlthough the box office returns are almost done for Rise, Fox is about to get another boost from DVD/Blu-Ray sales and rentals.
Anyone else getting the movie on Blu-ray/DVD when it comes out. I know it's the only thing that I've asked for this Christmas.

Bluray is definitely the way to go on this. Looking forward to December 13th.

I pre-ordered the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of RISE as soon as it was posted, but I'll be at my local Walmart at 11 A.M. December 13th to buy the exact same thing -- because I'm POTA crazy.
So, I'll have two and Fox will have more of my money -- which I hope they'll spend wisely on the sequel.

I haven't mentioned this before, but I really think getting bootlegs or some other kind of DVD thing "you shouldn't legally have" is a form of disrespect to Fox that is really BENEATH fans of POTA.

By the way, that Australian dude calls the price of the Blu-ray a rip-off. Well, I guess he'll just have to figure a way to steal it from Fox, that seems to be the preferred method from smart human chimpanzees.

I remember watching the TV series in 1974 at the ripe old age of 5 and later watching the cartoon Return to the Planet of the Apes at age 6. Fond memories--guess that's why I like apes so much. IF you were a kid in the 70s, Apes were everywhere.

OK, so the next APES movie will involve the apes moving into the vacant cities, towns and homes left by the human plague victims, so why haven't I thought of this before? Well, it's not the planet of the apes UNTIL the apes occupy it. So shouldn't it be "Occupy the Planet of the Humans"? But that wouldn't work either. Next!
The writers themselves suggested "Revenge of the POTA" so I don't think they're going to get fancy.
I hope they don't go with REVENGE.

Don't you know that in these kind of Sci-Fi things there's always someone around that's keeping the utility companies running. Look how brightly lit the subway was in the POTA TV series, and yeah, they answered that with "solar panels must still be working," (did the same with the computer episode) but that's just as lame.

.htmlRobin Williams knows a thing or two about and creating characters (sometimes several in the span of a few seconds). And he liked what Andy Serkis wrought with Caesar. He's also got a vote in the Academy's acting branch (he's won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor himself). Here's what he had to say:
"(On "Jumanji") one of the hardest (computer) programs to write was the monkey because of the hair and I am going, "Wow, I'll be working for awhile (before being replaced by CG)"...(Caesar is) one of the most vivid characters I've seen in film in recent history, and it's done with CG but with a person behind it, driving it, which is a wonderful combination of technology and humanity. Even though it's an ape, (Serkis) gives it such depth and it's just powerful. That thing Coppola said years ago at the Academy Awards - "the technology will always need great storytelling to work together" - that's happening and it is driven by directors who know the technology... and I am just in awe. I just become a child sometimes watching these movies".

Throwing poop in what's obviously a clown show seems to be all it's about these days, T. Ain't that not so?
Anyway, since I believe we are apes just as much as apes are apes, this planet already is THE planet of the apes, so a title like OCCUPY THE PLANET OF THE APES is rich in irony -- as far as I'm concerned.

.htmlHere's an interview with the Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the writers of "Rise of the POTA", done by the website The Forbidden Zone (remember them?). It was done around the time the movie was released and deals with their own POTA fandom, some of the earlier drafts and how they had to streamline things to keep it on Caesar's journey (the movie industry edict to "keep it moving, keep it moving" is the reason for those curious deleted scenes). They also talk about the references to the earlier movies and how it was actually Fox exec Tom Rothman who pushed for that (whether that stuff worked or not, it's obvious they were trying to do right by the fans, especially after the Burton flick; Amanda says, "We really had one eye on the fans at all times"). It's a good interview I missed the first time around.
http://www.theforbidden-zone.com/media/jaffa_silver_interview..html"
And I guess they will do a live interview Friday for this site as the blu-ray prepares to hit. Maybe we'll get some news on the sequel.

>>Well, there's the rub -- Fox owns it, you don't. Fox isn't going to
hand it over to an independent producer either, especially now that they've just
made nearly half a billion dollars again from the concept -- and I write this
thinking that Pierre Boulle is probably right now spinning in his grave.
<<
But that goes right back to what I said about financial success not
necessarily meaning a good product. There are plenty of examples I could
list.
>>Fox has been milking the POTA tit for decades now. (It was Fox that
wanted more APES sequels in the seventies, not Arthur P. Jacobs.) Fox milked it
until they ran it into the ground, then they treated it like dirt for years,
then they bastardized it and ruined it for a decade, now they've given it new
life and I have little doubt they'll run it into the ground again -- but
hopefully not. I doubt they care monkey bupkis (look that up if you want to know
what it means) what old school APES fans want -- except that it doesn't suck
like the Burton debacle. <<
It's not that obscure a word where someone would need to look it
up.
Fox CLEARLY doesn't care what old school fans think because they released
RISE. And Apes2001 a decade earlier.

fact, they had gotten worse. The world was a bastardized, nightmarish

With that double negative I'm not sure whether to agree or not.
Has Ain't made it into the dictionary yet? I've often wondered
what it's a contraction of? A I Not? I only ask because I'm not
going to bother to look myself. What was the question?

Yes, but I also think that just prior to deliberately detonating the bomb, he seemed willing to dismantle it (Brent seemed to convince him of the need to, despite his mourning the loss of Nova). He called to Zaius to help him, which Zaius refuses, sermonising about the troubles of humanity, so he basically goes "F*** it!" and falls on the button. I think Taylor hadn't totally decided what to do until Zaius's final words damning him and mankind, leading to his final petulant act. Who knows what would have happened if Zaius had of helped him (although whether he was an expert in bomb disposal, particularly that one, is another issue). Then again, the ending wouldn't have been as powerful and allegoric, and there wouldn't be the different circular or not timeline arguments that entertain some. ;)
