.html"Rise of the POTA" was up for 4 awards from "Empire" magazine but came up empty. It was up for Best Picture ("Harry Potter" won), Best Sci-Fi Film ("Thor" won), Best Actor (for Andy Serkis; Gary Oldman won for "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy") and Best Director ("Harry Potter" director David Yates won). Anyway, "Harry Potter" is done and POTA is just getting warmed up, so "Harry" won't have POTA to kick around any more.

The initial release dates listed show that Terror #2 should have been out this week and yet they haven't even gotten around to putting out #1. The comics shops themselves do not get any revised dates once the initial shipping dates slip. The BOOM discussion forums are pretty bare and useless.
This is taking forever and it can't be the due to the creators being late submitting their work since that parts been done (approaching 40 years now). Whats the holdup? I hope it's not publishing rights.

I just think any attempt to get a sequel out by the summer of 2013 will result in a rush job that will disappoint. We don't want to be disappointed, do we? I'd rather Fox took their time and everybody work to make the best thing possible -- that should be "the priority" --, even if it means waiting on Cameron. <.html

.htmlIt's the same schedule they had for "Rise". They announced it in May 2010 (then called "Caesar"), shot that summer and released a year later. It's a two year turn around for franchises these days. "Thor", "Fast and Furious", "Smurfs" and probably a few I'm forgetting came out in 2011 and their sequels are scheduled for 2013. Fox has "Wolverine" scheduled for 2013 and Hugh Jackman is shooting "Les Miserables" right now.

Unlike previous kits, it suggests what the back of the ship might look like beyond what Bill Creber and his department draughted. The configuration of the additional section is based on the impressive paper model which Jan Rukr designed ten years ago. Unfortunately, Jan didn't have the studio blueprints to work from; so, some of the proportions in his model were approximate (the small forward winglets, for instance, are a bit oversized in his version), and the kit designers have faithfully duplicated these inaccuracies. Nevertheless, from the pictures, the kit seems to build up very nicely even if the price tag is a little high.

Astronauts are sooo 20th Century anyway. The U.S. space program is kaput. So the concept is outdated (according to the newspaper the "rise" takes place in 2016).
It's possible since the astronauts are "lost in space" they overshot Mars or something. Or better yet, Mars was just a cover for a secret mission.

Here's some news today I just read at TheDigitalBits.com:
Film Chest has announced that they're releasing Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp on DVD on 5/29. This is the complete series - all 17 episodes on 3 DVD discs - transferred from the original studio ABC masters. To make this even cooler, Los Angeles' Wildlife Waystation will receive part of the proceeds from DVD sales as that's where the chimp that played Lancelot currently lives in retirement.
Lancelot Link was released on DVD around eight years ago, but it wasn't complete and the transfer quality wasn't the best. Hopefully this release will be better and I plan to get it if only to help out the chimp that's now in retirement. I went to the Wildlife Waystation websit, but I found nothing about this chimp, but the site says there are 42 chimps there.

Awesome! I'm still quite surprised no one has taken the
chance to resurrect the concept into another tv series, or
motion picture of some sort.

.html.html The Icarus footage in Rise, such as it is, seems to be stock footage: a night shuttle launch for the exterior and in-flight footage of Apollo 8 astronauts in zero G for the interior. Even judging from just a few vague shots, it's a safe bet that the reboot spacecraft is not the same as the one that carried Heston to the 40th century. I imagine the less ambitious flightplan in Rise was chosen because today's audiences might not accept the near-contemporary interstellar mission which featured in the original.

I look at the Icarus thing in RISE as really not much more than another homage to the original in a film that's full of such homages. I don't take it, at this point, to mean that old-school POTA fans are going to be forced into some kind of reboot of Taylor's mission in future sequels. I have no knowledge of what the producers are doing, but my bet is that the sequel won't mention the Icarus flight at all. It was just a one-time thing and if they were really serious about it then they wouldn't have left it so sketchy. My bet is that Fox wants to do new stories and won't reference the original film nor any of its '70s sequels in any further entries. When you think about, why should they?

I think they'll do a trilogy for now, wait a few more years and then do another trilogy, and never get anywhere near the future Taylor landed in, at least that would be nice.
Why the desire to want to rush to 3978? Doesn't that just mean the world will end again?

.htmlAll we have to go on is they named it the Icarus because it's "Taylor's ship". Yeah, it's meant to be a homage so people know it's POTA and not "Born Free". But they've hinted they're leading up to Taylor. The director said it's THE ship that took Chuck to POTA68 (hopefully they'll change their mind and play with alternate timelines like physicists predict). Might as well happen on the 50th anniversary. Then the next team can reboot if Fox wants, like they're going to do with the next "Batman". If this team does a good job they should be able to keep theirs separate from the next Bozo that comes along.
The writers said they aren't interested in remaking the original; (which some speculate the Icarus will lead to). So I take it they're going to lead up to the original, how we got there.

Just in case anyone here didn't know, and are also fans of this Roddy McDowall movie, 1972's THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE was released quietly on Blu-ray as a Wal-Mart exclusive on April 3rd (the 44th anniversary of PLANET opening wide across the US in 1968, by the way).
I've never thought this movie was that great, but it's OK and it's Blu-ray transfer is excellent. Note what the reviewer at Blu-ray.com says about the transfer and if you have any doubts that the APES movies could look even better than they already do on Blu-ray, then you're not paying attention. Things have evolved since 2008.

.htmlIt looks like BOOM!'s rerelease of the the vintage POTA comic series "Terror on the POTA" has been mothballed for now. It's still unclear what their plans were with this. Besides being featured in Marvel's POTA magazine in the '70's, the first 8 segments were reprinted by Adventure Comics in the early '90's. So about every 20 years it raises it's head. Were they planning something unique? Colorization? A conclusion? Maybe enlisting original creators Mike Ploog and Doug Moench to finish it? Since this is ground zero for POTA comics it would be fun to build an event around it. Certainly some folks were looking forward to it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-hcroZk4yk
And so we must be patient...and wait. Meanwhile, what is Terror's place in the POTA legacy? It's certainly part of the POTA Golden Age, along with Megos, Go Ape marathons and apple pie. Is it iconic? Is it moronic? Where does "Terror" stand almost 40 years later? And is a reprint wanted? So many questions.
Meanwhile, apes that go BOOM! have been around a year this month. With years of new POTA movies on the horizon maybe they will even give Marvel a run for their money.

.htmlTERROR on the POTA is definitely iconic.Doug Moench and Mike Ploog did some astonishing work--the art in issues 1,6 and 8 in particular is held as some of the greatest black and white art ever published.Often forgotten, unfairly, are the three chapters Tom Sutton did later. The first was an awkward mix of Tom finishing off Mike's deadline threatened art, but the next two chapters are Tom at his Eeerie style best. And I've always had a soft spot for Herb Trimpe's three chapters, with Vikings and Gorilloids---takes me right back to the Summer of 1977 when I first read them. So, to answer your question,to me TERROR is an iconic, inntinsic part of Apes and I'd LOVE to see it reprinted and maybe even concluded.Remember--we do now have Doug's next chapter script--'To Meet the Makers'.Love to see that done.John, Scrolls.

I know that some do not like the semi-victorian costumes that some of the apes wear and other aspects of their civilization, but if you can get past that there are a lot of 'classic' ape designs as well. I felt that the overly detailed art was hard to get used to at first, but I there are some instances where the detail is incredibly well done and I'm enjoying it more and more.

I think one could safely say that Terror is the granddaddy of all POTA comics. And you're right it is part of POTA's Golden Age. It does have its good parts and bad parts, but so do all incarnations of POTA.
However, it should be acknowledged that POTA is primarily a cinema franchise and that many POTA fans are not necessarily comics fans. And despite there being many good POTA comics being published in recent years (e.g. Revolution, Betrayal); many fans are either unaware of them or are just not interested. <.html

"The Visitor".
Somehow I doubt that as many moviegoers would have visited the theaters for it under that name.
As for John Carter, I wonder if they included the "of Mars" bit overseas? The movie did far better abroad than domestically:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=main&id=johncarterofmars.htm
Maybe the "confederate solder" connotations of John Carter simply turned off too many viewers in the USA. The Confederacy has been associated with negative stereotypes by folks who fear losing control of money derived from the federal income tax (which wasn't enacted until 1913, decades after the South lost the Civil War largely as a result of being outnumbered 4: 1).
Anyhow, any suggestions for the upcoming Apes' sequel's title? Maybe "Survival on the Planet of the Apes"? Seems more marketable than "12 Monkeys and the Planet of the Apes" even if the Apes sequel is supposed to have something in common with the movie 12 Monkeys. We shall see :-)

And it states that May 2013 is the target date for new Trek 2 to be vomited onto cinema screens---SO, if RISE 2 is due next Summer too, it's the long awaited throwdown between Apes and Trek.

.htmlI called the Planet of the Apes crew back in 2000, while it was filming. As an attorney who had worked in Los Angeles, I somehow managed to obtain the number. Anyhow they answered the phone "Planet of the Apes". I didn't have any questions in particular for them, as I was mainly just trying to confirm that the movie was in fact being made. I was overcome with excitement when they answered as they did.
I just looked for that number in my files, and couldn't find it a decade later. Microsoft's software can't open some older Word files, and the relevant one's one of those. Ah well. It may be like you suggest, though, that when they filmed in Utah, they called the movie "The Visitor" to cloak their activities. Perhaps the number I had obtained actually redirected to a studio in Los Angeles? I don't recall but I seem to (admittedly faintly) remember that the folks who answered were in Utah at the time. At any rate, I'm glad they didn't call the movie The Visitor at the box office.
Anyhow, what would Rise 3 be entitled, pursuant to your 3R's observation? Rowdiness on the Planet of the Apes? Roarin' Away on the POTA? Really Exciting Times on the POTA? Rise is going to be a tough act to follow. Hopefully they'll do better than the clowns who brought us Poltergeist 2. Terminator 2 was a fine SciFi sequel. So was Star Trek II the Wrath of Khan, starring our very own Ricardo Montalban (Armando). So was Aliens, back in 1986. It's a source of concern that more such examples aren't occurring to me though. The pressure's on and I hope they Rise to the occasion :-)
