They also showed a commercial for an upcoming TV show called "Animal Practice", which features a monkey named Rizzo. They wanted to call him Dr. Zauis but Fox nixed the idea. If it was a hit it might have been good publicity.

.htmlLol, Im glad someone caught that, It was purely for the hell of doing it, not something that's actually being done.
But a very good question, after I initially put that shot together, I asked myself why I had to use Zira.
there are a few shots in there that are merely a test for movement, Ursus is a Good Example, then there are a few that are more Practical to the Story

Made me wonder what an Apes Olympics would include in its events? John, Scrolls.

A motion capture performance, winning over actors like Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, Harrison Ford, Tom Hiddleston and Stanley Tucci. How important are the Saturn Awards? Well, the major awards like the Oscars tend to ignore genre films so I'd say they are the Oscars for science fiction films.

I still thank "Rise" for giving Jacobs a proper tribute. I hope Zanuck saw that.

The Ancient Greeks wore ceramic masks in their dramatic performances and, therefore, could not get a nod from the Academy nowadays, despite inventing the art of drama.Andy re-invented the art of acting in RISE, so it is wonderful that science fiction, as is so often the case, recognises true innovation in cinema and drama, whilst the old farts wait for the next Royal movie.John, Scrolls. <.html

Though it looked like "Dawn of the POTA" was
going to get a break in Summer 2014, that doesn't seem to be the case
anymore. While there's no "Harry Potter" or "Pirates of the Caribbean" this
time, it's already been said they are aiming a new "Jurassic Park" for that time
frame. And now comes word that "The Hobbit" (the highly anticipated "Lord of the
Rings" prequel) will be made into a trilogy and the finale will arrive Summer
2014. This will probably crush the competish like the "Harry Potter" finale did.
And there's also plans for another Michael Bay "Transformers", another billion $
franchise, for that time frame.
Will POTA have the alright stuff? Pray, my
children!

Well, you're wrong, Veetus. PLANET is a gimmick picture, that's pretty obvious. I said so in an article I had published over twenty years ago. What else can you call a movie where most of the cast wears elaborate prosthetic makeups in order to play apes? Of course there was more to it, but as a marketable commodity, which is what a studio motion picture is, PLANET was an unusual, "gimmick" picture.
And don't blame Dick Zanuck for POTA 2001. The ill-conceived notion of doing a POTA "re-imagining" was set in the concrete skulls of the suits at Fox long before Zanuck agreed to produce. Not even Fox wunderkind James Cameron could crack those thick skulls and prevent them from their "egregious" error. As producer on POTA 2001, Zanuck merely saw to it that the production was carried out on schedule and on budget, that's all. There wasn't a damn thing he could do to improve it, not without a war with the front office that would have had him fired. I'm sure it was a fight he thought not worth it. Everyone put their trust in Tim Burton to make something good out of it, and he ended up failing, but I'm sure they all very much wanted to make a better picture.
No, if you want to attack Zanuck, attack him for the mess that became BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES, otherwise, Zanuck was and remains pretty much a hero in the world of POTAdom.
All hail, Richard Zanuck! We'll never see his like again.

You don't have to be smart to be a great producer.
Just give a great director the budget and people
he needs to make a great movie and stay out
of the way. His father understood that. It's
people like Selznik who had to micro-manage.

Burton's imagination rarely goes beyond the visual.
And that's why his POTA fell flat. It has no depth.
No substance. It's a big fugitive chase scene
rushing to a surprise ending that was no
surprise to those who'd read the book,
and left everyone else scratching
their heads. It's not thoughtful.

Just picked up the annual yesterday and read the first half. It's got 4 short stories. The first story is from the Darryl Gregory/Carlos Magno storyline and features Alaya and Sullivan as kids. The second story, shown that Tumblr URL is a funny tale that also has a serious side. I can't remember the artist for the third story but it has some stunning art and a very nice style and color selection. Did not have a chance to even peek at the fourth story. Going to have to finish reading it tonight, but I can already say that it is a very nice annual.
On the subject of Exile, I waited until I had all four issues before I sat down to read it in one fell swoop. I was a bit disappointed with the overall content for the 4 issues although it does have it's moments. A bit cliché and not as engaging as Betrayal even though it is something like a sequel to Betrayal. Just not the best Apes from Boom.

They added to it after I posted that. If you go
down farther there is "Exile" artwork as advertised.
The fourth story in the annual (written and drawn
by Gabriel Hardman) is the best, a prequel to "Betrayal" and
"Exile".

.htmlI have read Pierre Boulle's book POTA more than once since I had it in 1974.
The ape society was more willing to give their human alien visitor a chance to prove himself over a period of time....That cool!
But what I'm really getting confused over time and again, ....Why is it that every media reference work ever done using gorillas as subjects, always make them out to be monsters? Orangs pretty much are in place, but chimps are mean beyond comprehension except for bonobos. Yet, any media use of apes depicts the gorillas as being meand\ and monstrous and chimps being nice when they are truly opposites of one another.

Gorillas have always been misunderstood (KING KONG, for instance), but the public has really only been exposed to baby and very young chimps (under age five or seven) in show business and such. Only in the last couple decades has the public been really exposed to a greater understanding of adult chimps. <.html

Mighty Joe Young just came to mind now.....Thank you for

Thanks to those two for clearing things up about apes.
On another observation, I know how many here on this site loathe
Tim Burton's idea of POTA, but I have to give him credit for depicting
the apes as they really would be. Chimps as they really are, mean.
The orangutans as they, eccentric, and the gorillas as note such
brutes, but reasonable....which is the way the are, anyway.
I'll stop here on Tim Burton for now. But you get the point
on how his general outline of the characters. <.html

Maybe Kolp was being sarcastic in calling the settlement a city but in so doing gave it the name it would be known as ever after?

.htmlThe word Village is not uncommon in the US. The most likely use these days is for housing developments.
Also, Virgil calls it Ape City too.

Cornelius can't be in two places at once. You
must be seeing things. All chimps look alike to most humans.
Ape City IS a village. But it's the beginning of
what they hope will become a city. Both terms are correct.
Now class, open your "POTA as American Myth" book
to page 164...

I appologize! I thought I was late getting issue 4, ssince it shows up at the local comics shop at the end of the month it's released.
But you still have to read it anyway to find out why I concluded
with the thought I shared about Aleron. <.html

| Subject: Boom!'s POTA Annual |
.html
Got the POTA annual the other day and Boom! has done a really good job once again. The annual contains 4 short or mini stories, each only 8 pages long. Eight pages is very short for a story (for perspective Marvel's Terror and other POTA comic series ran between 20 and 25 pages per issue) but Boom! pulls it off for the most part. Three of the 4 stories are good to excellent.
The lead off story, 'First and Last Days' is unfortunately the turkey of the lot. The plot is really thin and has a very weak ending. While it's got a bit of a 'Lesson from the Lawgiver' vibe to it, the less said about this story the better.
The second story shows what a good writer can do with a limited number of pages. Written by Corinna Bechko, who co-wrote the excellent Betrayal and Exile series, 'A Boy and His Human' has a lot of heart. It has a well developed main character and doesn't make the mistake of taking itself too seriously as 'First and Last Days' does.
Story number three, 'Old New World' by Jeff Parker, is almost as good as 'A Boy and His Human' and is miles ahead of 'First and Last Days'. It has an interesting concept which is well executed. Hope to see more POTA stories from Mr. Parker in the future.
Boom! saved the best for last with 'The Scroll'. Written by Gabriel Hardman, the other co-writer of Betrayal and Exile, this story is the one that most captures the spirit of the original POTA. It's a great, pithy read. This shows just how good a POTA comic can be when written by a good writer who is a real POTA fan. Can't wait for the new Cataclysm comic series in September.
With the current movies (Rise and Dawn) going in its own direction, in its own POTA universe; the Boom! comics are really the only source of stories from the classic POTA universe. Thankfully it seems to be in good hands with Ms. Bechko and Mr. Hardman. <.html
