All I know is he has a lot to live up to:
acclaim, half $1 billion at the box office. People will be gunning for him, so
he'll have to keep the hackery in check. Otherwise Rupert Wyatt will become a
martyr.

.htmlIf the script is done, if Andy's Caesar character is locked in,then the Director just needs to direct and not get in the way by becoming de facto scripter and producer.I'm just looking forward to them actually starting the damned thing.John, Scrolls.

I think the studio just wanted someone they could control.
Never a good formula for great film making.

.htmlWell, Ted Post was perceived as a 'smaller', tv director when Frank became unavailable, and Ted went on to deliver my favourite Apes movie of the lot.So, good luck Matt and I'm sure DAWN will be a BENEATH for a new generation of Apes fans.John, Scrolls.

My stupid wife like the New York Dolls and we watched their video of 'Dance Like a Monkey' last night. It's an animated thing and has, gasp, an Apes homage in it, with Taylor at the Statue of Liberty.Set me wondering about just how many Apes cameos and tributes there must have been over the years, not just The Simpsons and Family Guy, but a gazillion others. It would be cool to have an index of 'em.John, Scrolls.

As much as I liked 'RISE" I can't say I felt the direction was in any way outstanding. I thought Wyatt did a decent enough, workmanlike job, but otherwise an unremarkable one.
For me, the worst thing that can happen is that Dawn proves indistinguishable from Rise and you won't be able to tell that there's a new director behind the wheel.
My Blu ray collection isn't huge but I have two Matt Reeves movies. I liked 'Cloverfield' and I might have thought 'Let me in' a classic (had I not seen the original).
I too am optimistic he'll prove to be a good choice.

(Rocket's more scared of Buck than he is Caesar) In the compound it's easier for Caesar to keep a watchful eye on Rocket and keep him in line. Rocket's something of a wild card and what with all the other apes having previously been subversive to him perhaps having him as Caesar's 'lieutenant' helps make the transition of leadership (from Rocket to Caesar) easier to accept.
Once free Caesar (and Buck) won't have the opportunity to keep any wild cards in line. He hesitates because he's still naively hoping for a bloodless revolution with zero casualties and he's weighing up the odds of Rocket doing more harm than good.

Now that Matt Reeves is the new POTA director
we'll have to consider his baggage. He's been pals with J. J. Abrams since they
were kids and their careers are entwined. The fictional drink Slusho! first
appeared in the second episode of Abrams' show "Alias" and afterwards kept
showing up in shows like "Lost" and "Heroes".
I guess it's also been seen in J. J.'s
"Star Trek" and "Super 8" movies. But it had it's biggest boost when Reeves
directed the Abrams produced "Cloverfield", not only appearing in the film but
also a big part of it's marketing campaign.
Perhaps that makes sense with Abrams as the
producer but Reeves seems to be carrying the ball too. It appeared on a store
sign in Reeves' Abrams-less "Let Me In". So will Slusho! find it's way into some
abandoned human iconography in POTA? Maybe Rocket will find an empty Slusho! cup
and his first words will be, "Where get me a Slusho?". I was an "Alias" fan so
I'd enjoy a subtle reference that would go over most people's heads. No harm
done?

.html One thing that used to exercise my little mind with Apes was the question of the language they spoke---not that it is English, but that it's RECOGNISABLE English. 2000 years is a long time in the evolution of language and a modern Englishman would not be easily able to converse with a Dark Age Angle or Saxon. But, listening to the audio Boulle, the answer is there! The Orangs, conservative and repressive, stifled all new thought and initiative, teaching exactly the same stuff to young Apes in school, thereby keeping ideas---and the language--frozen.It's a bit like Latin--because it was the language of a monolithic, repressive Church and State, it stayed frozen--a Medieval monk could have had a conversation with Nero.
So, panic over.Apes does make sense after all! John, Scrolls. <.html

.htmlI think the Apes conservatism would account for their lack of technology too---the repressive regimes of the Middle Ages in Europe held mankind back for centuries---just look at the advances of the Industrial Revolution when the shackles of religious correctness were thrown off.So, maybe, in AD 4500 or so, Apedom will be embracing technology and shooting for the Moon.
Which won't be there.John, Scrolls.

It's when a cold beer just won't do and you put one in the freezer,
but
then you forget about it, and it ends up in there for more than half an
hour
and gets below 22 degrees. Then you open it, and take a drink.
You take a
couple of glugs. But you stop, and the sudden release of CO2
make it freeze.
Awww... Man. I got a Slusho.

.htmlI recall some Actors feeling that Ape Prosthetics were not really legitimate acting, The Passage of Time says differently though, how it will fare with CG, I don't know.
I feel like a bit of a Hypocrite, mainly because Destiny of the Planet of the Apes is being done with CG Characters.
I've never been a Fan of CGI, the over the top use of it anyway, and I'm still not, but over the past few years I've learned a lot more about it and have a greater appreciation of the work that goes into it.
I must admit, I wasn't really blown away by RISE, I read a draft of the script and thought it was great, the Movie is a different story, aside from feeling like a gutted movie, it just doesn't have anything that I personally find memorable, at least where the Humans are concerned.
The Apes are obviously the real Stars, and I was mostly impressed with how well they came off, despite the fact that I wasn't enthusiastic about them being CG, after reading a draft of the script I understood the logic behind it, Suits and Animatronics could be used, but the proportions are still not 100% accurate, and they were going for totally realistic.
There are Shots in RISE, where the Apes look absolutely real(especially the hands) then there are shots where they look a bit off, and then there are shots where they look Like Cartoony CGI with really great textures.
I think there would be fewer flaws in the CG if more time had been given to do it, I recall that at one point it was scheduled for release in November of 2011, then got pushed up to August, I feel that the CG would have benefited from a few extra months, unfortunately a movies don't always get an appropriate amount of post Production time, and are rushed into the theater, and cut down to squeeze more showings into 1 day.
As for DAWN, well I'm not holding my breath hoping that it will tie directly into the originals, and that's fine because I never expected that.
using prosthetics and CG in the film would be neat, I would love to see that, but I don't expect it, no matter how much I as a Fan want to see that, it's not about what I want.
I don't really keep up with much of the News on DAWN, I liked RISE, I was glad it did well, but I personally just didn't feel very compelled by it.

And the actor who played James Bond in which this Oscar winner appeared has a connection to someone who was in Planet.
That sentence confuses me. Anyway, right now I haven't a clue.

I realized that I was mistaken and there are two who appeared in both a POTA and James Bond movie. Norman Burton is the first but, as Yoda would say, there is another. And the actor who played James Bond in which this Oscar winner appeared has a connection to someone who was in Planet.

The answer is John Huston who was the Lawgiver in Battle and played M in the 1967 version of Casino Royale. David Niven played James Bond in that film and he starred in the movie Stairway to Heaven with Kim Hunter.

.htmlOn the screenrant.com site, the feature on Bomback's appointment mentions he actually did uncredited work on RISE.Apart from anything else, 'Bomback' sounds like a suicide gorilla with a grudge, so it should be action-filled.Is Bomback's involvement a signal for action and explosions?
