I like how there's echoes of classic human politics ("Human Town Must Be Destroyed", "Mission Accomplished"), and how dramatically and quickly the future can change into a dystopia. That's another way of saying The Ape is firmly within canon.

Been looking at this early TV Series script.It's actually pretty good and there are echoes in there of later episodes.I'm intrigued that it's dated March 1973---does anybody know did this overlap BATTLE's production at all and WHEN did Arthur Jacobs sell Apes to TV? I honestly feel that the make-up in that is more effective in displaying acting and emotion than the make-up in Burton's movie.Sadly, CGI means that these spoofs are probably now history.Never seen this clip before--great to see it.John, Scrolls.

Apart from the new Caesar figure, has there actually been ANY official, directly RISE-related, non premiere hand out, freely obtainable merchandise based on RISE? Today is the centennial of Paul Dehn's birth. Like him or not he is the one person who had the most influence on the POTA sequels back in the '70s.

Other than the POTA films, Dehn is probably most famous for writing or co-writing the screenplays of Goldfinger, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Murder on the Orient Express. Not a bad collection of movie credits.

I feel that Paul Dehn's scripts for the Apes sequels were fantastic and he, probably more than anyone else on a 1-10 scale, had more to do with the Apes popularity than anyone else connected with the series. It all starts with the written word and Dehn's original visions were amazing.
Its a shame that many casual and not so casual fans dont appreciate him more. Take care, John M.

I was watching RISE the other night and, frankly, the Academy must be brain dead not to have given it the Best Special Effects Oscar---it just beggars belief that the performance that Andy gave as Caesar could be so well visualised and NOT win.Were the Academy even aware that no live Apes were used? I wondered then if, maybe, a bit like LOTR, the Academy were keeping their powder dry for the third chapter, to drown Apes in an avalanche of praise.Then I woke up.John, Scrolls.

It would be unusual for a big Hollywood movie to be shot outside Canada nowadays---they seem to have the necessary tax breaks.If shooting does start in March, at least the rumour mill can start up in earnest and we gan get gossiping and bitching.Can't wait!!! John, Scrolls.
