No, "Dawn" is still in Caesar's lifetime. But it's in keeping with POTA tradition. Mostly each one had a new director, new cast (except for the ape lead), new setting. But I would have liked to see Franco and Freida Pinto return and bring some resonance from the previous movie, like Armando in "Conquest".

I like Franco and loved him in RISE, but maybe, just maybe, his minimal involvement could suggest we move on in time in DAWN, so it's not just a direct sequel? We've still got 2000 years to cover, after all.John, Scrolls.

Doesn't look good for James Franco's return in "Dawn of the POTA". Even when Rupert Wyatt was directing, Franco was only slated for a cameo. Now he sez there's just radio silence:

"I was going to be a small part of the next one... there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened, like Tom Rothman, who was a big part of the first movie, left. Now Rupert's not a part of it so I don't know. My guess is I won't be in it. Nobody's talked to me since Rupert left".

I like commentaries, but as with the internet or anything else, you have to know who to listen to. In fact, I listened to Matt Reeves' commentaries and now I'm on board with him as the new director. He knows his stuff and has artistic integrity.

I agree--there's actually a good argument just to buy the DVD now, as you can play it anywhere, rather than pay more for a poor commentary on a more restrictive blu ray.The THOR commentary by Sir Ken is actually a masterclass in explanation and really illuminating.Other than that, commentaries lately have been dire.John, Scrolls.

The thing about commentary tracks is that no matter how good it is, I tend to only listen once. Most of them are a waste of time and they often tell me things that in the end I'd be happier not knowing.

I'd like to see the saga moved on in time--the bare assed monkey bit has been done in RISE. I may be getting too distracted by the 'trilogy' idea--if we've got ,say, five movies, there's lots of time to see uniformed gorillas, but a trilogy would need to speed things up?I want leather, glyphs and colours. A good commentary enhances the movie (the National Lampoon Christmas Vacation one is actor based and great fun!).Personally, I'd love to hear Andy talk us through RISE.Glad to hear Matt Reeves is a good guy--I wasn't totally sold on ol' Rupert's approach.John, Scrolls.

I'll defer to your greater experience of premature happenings.Counting to five helps, I'm told.I'm hoping that, this time, we get some sort of DAWN images sooner, rather than later--and not just Andy in his jimmy jams.I remember the thrill of seeing the very first images of the crashed spacecraft from Burton's Apes and I recall thinking 'Wowza!!'.Then I saw the spikey red tents and I thought'Hmmmm....'.Perversely, I seemed to enjoy the build up more for Burton than Wyatt---maybe I was still an innocent, as yet unbruised? I love BATTLE! Saw Roddy in his Columbo episode from 1972 yesterday (Short Fuse) and it also included James Gregory (who he murdered!) and William Windom.Roddy was on playful form, very Galen-like, with lots of eyes and little mewls.Made me close my eyes to experience Galen-v-Columbo!
