Bomback also did some script work on "Rise" (he's credited with Caesar drawing his window in his cage) but Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver got the screen credit. Now they are on "Jurassic Park 4" (also scheduled for Summer 2014) so probably they are less involved in "Dawn" (though still producers, which they deserve, since none of this would've happened without them).

This could be a good thing, or it could be a bad thing. If Matt Reeves knows, truly knows what it is that's good about POTA, the social commentary and political allegory and such, then fine..., but if his sensibilities instead run towards all that was wrong-headed about the Burton film -- and don't think that that mentality is dead in the corporate offices at Fox -- then it could be a very bad thing indeed. Remember, Matt Reeves is most probably doing just as much battling with the suits at Fox right now as Rupert Wyatt had to do during the making of RISE, and I haven't read anything that indicates that Reeves is some kind of great personal director that fights for his vision. There's just too much that's unknown. Is Reeves doing DAWN because he so loves and "gets" POTA, or is he doing it because he so loves and wants to get... the money? Who knows? It's an unknown at this point, and what
does Dr. Zaius think it the most dangerous thing in the world? The unknown.
Just keep your fingers crossed for now, everybody... and hope for the best.

.htmlThough almost everybody is different from "Rise", the aces in the hole are Andy Serkis and Peter Chernin the producer. Fox has final say, of course, since they are paying the bills. And now POTA is a big franchise and there's a lot of pressure to be fun and popular. But if Serkis says (as he has) that he's excited about the story they've cooked up, that gives me some hope.
As for Matt Reeves, he seems to have a darker take on things and that might help. "Cloverfield" doesn't end happily and "Let Me In" has a twisted ending. Reeves has never done an expensive franchise movie before but Fox seems to be on board with whatever his concept is. So IF it's a good one he might have their cooperation. No one knows how "Dawn" will end up (not even the people making it, since there's so many variables). But those are the positive vibes I'm taking into the next year.

I found this interview with "Dawn of the POTA" director Matt Reeves from Comic Con 2010. As a kid he was big on "Star Wars" (of course) and collected Corgi toy cars. But he also had Mego "Star Trek" and POTA stuff (including the treehouse). Probably he's the first POTA director who was a "POTA kid" ("Rise" director Rupert Wyatt seemed to have a more casual interest). So we'll see how that might inform his film.
http://collider.com/comic-con-let-me-in-interview-matt-reeves-cloverfield-sequel-prequel-the-invisible-woman/
Is Reeves doing DAWN because he so loves and "gets" POTA, or is he doing it because he so loves and wants to get... the money? Who knows? It's an unknown at this point, and what does Dr. Zaius think it the most dangerous thing in the
world? The unknown.
Just keep your fingers crossed for now, everybody... and hope for the best. <.html

Let's photo-shop it and replace the names with Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall.

Reeves has never done an expensive franchise movie before but Fox seems to be on board with whatever his concept is. So IF it's a good one he might have their cooperation. No one knows how "Dawn" will end up (not even the people making it, since there's so many variables). But those are the positive vibes I'm taking into the next year.

.htmlThe news that Judy Greer will play Cornelia in "Dawn of the POTA" brings some closure to one problem with "Rise". She was introduced and shown to be important to Caesar but they didn't follow through. The shot of the two embracing as seen in the trailer was cut out (presumably there was more to it than just a shot). Director Rupert Wyatt said they decided to leave it out because audiences might find it "too campy". So I guess it's a good sign that Cornelia's back in the sequel. Her intro in "Rise" will make more sense. Maybe half a $ billion at the box office bought Caesar some love. I'd still like to see that scene from "Rise" (which wasn't in the deleted scenes). Maybe they can use it as a flashback?
http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3225728/dawn-of-the-planet-of-the-apes/
Bon voyage to Devyn Dalton, who played Cornelia in "Rise". Because of her size, she played Caesar as a child at certain times. Would be cool if she could play Caesar and Cornelia's child. Judy Greer rocks, no problem there ("13 Going on 30" features Greer and Serkis together as humans). But it suggests they've had it with primitive apes and want to get into the talking and riding horses. This might be where Rupert Wyatt and Fox had a difference of opinion. I remember his concepts were more apecentric, with nary a human in sight. That would be more expensive, all apes all the time. Casting people like Gary Oldman means there's going to be significant humanage. That makes sense, cut the CG folks some slack. And Wyatt suggested a slower evolution but it sounds with Greer that Fox wants to start the ballgame. Apes talking, riding horses, wearing clothes, etc. That makes sense too from a franchise standpoint. That's why we're here, cut to the chase.
Or maybe something in the middle? I just think casting a known actress (with no motion capture experience) as an ape is pretty significant. It's like being the first bird to be born without an egg! It's like being the first fish to be born on dry land! It's like being the first... <.html

I think that fans can often be the worst people to handle a production because they lack a certain critical perspective. They can be blind to weakness in the material and obsess only on those aspects of it that fixate them. I mean, if it were up to some of the POTA fans here, we'd only be getting new POTA movies that played like extended episodes of the TV series!
Now, now.... you know what I'm saying is true.

Now, now.... you know what I'm saying is true.

collection is about finished trying to sell the items (he's been at it for a
while now) and simply drop anything left over at his local
Goodwill and be done with it. So if there's anyone here in the Staten Island (or

That's nothing compared to how Fox gave away the ending to the first film at the beginning of the BENEATH trailer. I scratch my head wondering what everyone back then was thinking. I don't think BENEATH should have even begun with the last minutes of PLANET. But, it's ancient history now.

This reminds me.... This Saturday, April 6th, Turner Classic Movies will be showing BENEATH at 12 noon. As far as I recall TCM has never shown an APES movie before, though I could have forgotten if they've ever shown PLANET, but I don't think they have. The Saturday afternoon movies on TCM are usually introduced with commments from Ben Mankiewicz.

There seems to be a lot of things "Given Away" especially in
trailers.
I suppose they think if they just flash something quickly it will pique
your interest but you'll forget it. And I'm sure a lot of people do.
But I can't count the number of movies I DIDN'T go see
because I felt I knew the whole story after the trailer.

I wonder why they're shooting in New Orleans for a movie that's supposed to be set in San Francisco? Maybe there's still a lot of hurricane damage in New Orleans and they want that look of desolation without having to build it in California, or may it's just that Louisiana has good tax breaks for movie companies?
Any thoughts, Jeff Krueger? Hey, where's Jeff Krueger? Is he thumbing a ride to New Orleans?

.htmlI live in Louisiana, and I think the primary reason would be the tax breaks, the entire state is focused on movie and television production. Big tax credits that can be sold to others if not used by the production companies. We even have a local TV and Film office. I never thought we'd see Gerard Butler, Kevin Costner or Diane Keaton at our local Starbucks, etc., but that's whats been happening over the last few years.
