Only if the prolouge for Conquest can be found-Im sure its their somewhere- just to lazy to reinstall it. It was filmed and publicity shots were taken and blah, blah, blah... One day I hope. Take care, John M.

I saw all the Apes films as they were released from 1968 till the 1974 GO APE festival. Each film had faults even Beneaths faults can be overlooked because its more a horror movie (very creepy) in my view than a sci-fi one. After seeing Conquest about 15 times in 1972 in the best theaters even in its edited form and then a year latter seeing Battle you might understand why most oldtimers are very dissapointed with it(Battle).
If you are an oldtimer like myself and like Battle that much well I wount go any further with my diatribe for Battle is a very bad movie or an OK TV movie of the week. Lets be honest. The reinserted mutant parts are what save Battle and I hope more youngsters see that version to atleast give the whole Ape series and extra half a star***1/2. Just my view. Love your enthusiasm though, John M.

I think DAWN is being shot for 3-D, but there's signs now that the gimmick is pretty much a bust, at least on the home consumer level. I wonder how much longer Hollywood is going to try and milk it?

One good sign that's it's going out of style for home use is ESPN is discontinuing its 3-D broadcasts due to lack of interest...
If DAWN is shown as a 3-D film, I'll skip watching it that way and watch it in the standard form...

I think the licensing is for merchandise (toys,
shirts, etc.). Product tie-ins are something else. The tie-ins during "Man of
Steel" were for apocalyptic destruction scenes, so I don't think that would rule
POTA out. There's a big Coca-Cola sign on the "Dawn" set.
They've already set the dates for 2 more
"Spiderman" movies. They really are starting to get ahead of
themselves.

Not true! There was a chimp at the Hogle Zoo
in Salt Lake City, and she could talk. And I
don't mean like chimps you see in videos,
saying Mama. She said things like, Hello.
She had to hold her nose to do it, but
it was clear and distinct. Not just Mama.

.htmlIt was nice to have "Dawn" kinda lead off the summer. In the 21st Century, POTA has always brought up summer's rear (POTA2001 on July 27, "Rise" on Aug. 5 and now this). To have "Dawn" as a big Memorial Day release would've been cool. If someone asked us, "When is your dinky POTA movie coming out?", we could've said, "Why, on Memorial Day weekend. Maybe you've heard of it? Only one of the biggest movie weekends of the year!". All they would've be able to do is bow in deference.
But now! POTA is in the slot it always is. Not fair! Not fair! "X-Men" always wins! And "Rise" kicked the box office crap out of every "X-Men" movie. And don't give me that stuff about it will give them more time to get the FX right. We don't know that. It also costs more money to fiddle with it. By now I'm sure they have the CG down to a science. Maybe they are doing this to give "Dawn" more time but I doubt it. It sounds like they are wrapping "Dawn" at the end of the month so things are going swimmingly (I like that expression: "swimmingly"). They are doing this for the reason they always do. POTA fans are second-class citizens. We always have to step aside when the "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" or "X-Men" fans need to be serviced. Always has been, always will be.

.htmlI really don't mind July. Back in the '70s I didn't get to see each POTA film until very late June or July. I don't think I saw Conquest until August. Back then the new film would open in just a few theaters in Manhattan and I had to wait until it came around to one of my local theaters which usually took several weeks.

.html It's not a step up. "Dawn" was set for Memorial Day weekend. That's a biggie. I think they've got something huge planned for "X-Men", with a huge roster of actors from the old and new films. Superhero films are still all that and sci-fi isn't doing so hot ("Star Trek", "Oblivion", John Carter") so maybe "X-Men" is a safer choice.
I was also thinking there's a lot of "creature" movies in May ("Godzilla", Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") so maybe a superhero movie fits in there better, and then their "creature" feature ("Dawn") would be good "counterprogramming" opposite "Fast and Furious" (a huge franchise). Then again, Fox seems to love the end of summer, but they seem more about consistent base hits than home runs. This summer their big movie "The Wolverine" (another X-flick) hits July 26.
So Memorial Day was a big deal (as is July 4rth) but these U.S. holidays matter less now with the importance of the world market. I guess at the end of Summer 2014 it won't matter when "Dawn" came out, just if it was good.

I think it has more to do with the CGI going to take a little longer with DAWN.
Rupert knew what he was talking about. I'm just glad to see that maybe DAWN won't be a rush job.
Now, I worry more about it coming out just a week after another FAST AND FURIOUS. I don't like those dumb movies, but the general public eats them up.

.htmlFox isn't worried about the CG. They are worried about strategic release dates. They will just throw more money at the CG so it's finished on time if they have to (the X-Men CG people just let out a collective >gulp!<). I will say "Dawn" doesn't have as much competition now. Except "Fast and Furious" the week before, it opens against "Planes 2", the Disney "Cars" wannabe; the next week is the Rock as "Hercules" and the sci-fi "Jupiter Ascending" (from the "Matrix" directors); and the week after that is Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy". Pretty smooth sailing.
Rupert Wyatt sez he and Fox didn't agree about the direction of the story. I think that schedule thing was just the official story.

.htmlHere's a real rarety! A blueprint used for making the ape village in POTA. We can see how the grounds had to be graded as well as some of the housing. Since not all of the houses are shown I would assume that originally there existed a whole set of these blueprints. Check out some of the others involved in the legend box.
Price is steep though and these is definite aging along the fold borders (extra blue). But still very nice.

.html.html .htmlI think the whole thing of apes having the ability to talk in the POTA series is something that will never be fully explained to satisfy everyone... Your explanation is as good as any other out there, at least as far as the new franchise goes...
I think "if" an explanation for their vocal development is created, it'll probably come from a fan's theories and/or a fan fic... Maybe it will be touched on in the new film, but it's unlikely since they'll probably just delve into the beginnings of the ape society and not how Caesar and the others communicated with each other to get it started...
If the apes in the (old or new) APES films had their own language developed like they did in Boulle's book, it probably would have made things easier to explain... By that I mean the three species of apes could probably imitate each other's different vocalizations and maybe with that they could have developed some sort of language of their own, one that would work with the "vocalization" abilities they'd all have... But, to paraphrase Heston, English is the language of film, so they probably figured it's easier to just go with it and not explain the how's and why's of things (and that goes for the old and new films)...

whoever is reading my messages is not getting it. if you read my message. i said i like to make apes as real as possible in the movie. with the virus on humans and testing on apes. that is more possible than apes talking. as one person said they just hollywooded it up. and caesar was so articulate when he said he was home. it would have been better if he said he was home in sign language and the apes killed the police that came in to the forest, if you know of the original ending thats how it was first filmed. and if you rem. they did that in conquest also killing the governor while caesar speaks and the city is burning. the difference with me is if i was fortunate to make ape movies i would not do it to make money. i would do it to make it as real as possible. when science says apes could talk possibly someday with drugs than fine. why could't they at least make a ref. in the movie that the drug is expanding their vocal chords. <.html

It could be anything that is similiar in the ape world, nothing to think about.
This happens all the time when buddys are in a dire situation or a common perticiment(spelling), they tend to think alike.

.htmlYes this is Joe Russo...we have gotten a lot of positive feedback and members of this board have already generously contributed some material we will use in the book. We plan to make this version of PLANET OF THE APES REVISITED very much revised and with a lot of extra written material and virtually all new photos. If fans have photos or material they would like to contribute, hi-res files should be sent to me at epshots@......contributors will be acknowledged. Our motive for this project from the beginning (way back in 1983) has always been to uncover and provide fans with exciting info and photos. So please support our efforts now if you can. Thank you in advance

Is Joe in this group? I love that book. I may have some rare
pics from Ron Harper's collection that we bring to
shows. I'll try posting some here. I am actually trying
to get all my POTA clients booked as guests around the
country but haven't been very successful except here in
southern California. We represent 7 different actors from
the TV series and film here at http://omegacelebritymgmt.com
as a special guest we are having Don Murray at our tables at
The Hollywood Show in two weeks.

Yes, it's a five-year-old Maurice Evans. While on Wikipedia one day, I looked up Maurice Evans and discovered that before he died he wrote a memoir that was published. I found the book at Amazon and will tell everyone what he says in it about playing Dr. Zaius later this week. Here's a picture of the book's cover.

Here's my take on the story so far (it's not a spoiler since it's just my guess). It sounds like "Battle" is the template with "good" and "bad" groups of both apes and humans. Of course Caesar serves the same role as the original Caesar, trying to keep the peace. You've got Koba as the bad ape like Aldo, who wants revenge or to take over the human territory. You've got the good humans. I think that would be represented by actors Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Kodi Smit-McPhee (maybe a family?). Perhaps that shot that was released shows them as a human band going off on their own and befriending Caesar. They are like MacDonald & Co.
http://img.ly/images/7312429/full
Then there's the bad humans, represented by Gary Oldman, the Kolp of the story. It's said his character has a military and police background, so he leads the attack on the apes. Looks like the apes and humans battle it out in Old San Francisco. Maybe the Golden Gate Bridge separates them, with the apes in the redwoods and the humans in the old cities. Can't we all just get along? <.html

Chief Justice Charlton Heston in a science fiction, post-apocalyptic (2076) setting? For the FREE Outer Limits episodes (pts. 1 & 2) featuring Mr. Heston during his sunset years, feel free to visit:
He did pretty well for being nearly 80, wouldn't you agree?
On a different front, I'd like for a friend who thoroughly enjoyed the original recently to be able to get the
DVD (not Blu-Ray) collection of Apes sequels (Beneath, Escape, Conquest, Battle), the prequel (Rise) and possibly the revisiting (released in 2001). Might anyone know of an upcoming sale anytime soon at, for example, Amazon.com ? The last time she checked, prices for the collection weren't as economical as they have been in the past.
Any thoughts?
Have a good rest of the weekend, from Houston, TX :-) <.html <.html
